Information literacy and digital literacy are important skills for students in the 21st century. Information literacy involves being able to recognize when information is needed and locate, evaluate, and effectively use that information. It has five defined standards relating to determining information needs, accessing information efficiently, evaluating sources critically, using information for a purpose, and understanding legal and ethical issues. Digital literacy refers to understanding and using digital information from various online sources. Incorporating information and digital literacy into online courses requires collaboration between faculty and librarians to integrate these skills at all levels through tools like tutorials, resources, and assessments.
