Cometa in de praktijk (Informatie aan Zee 2013)
Cometa is een praktisch model dat voor en door Vlaamse cultureel-erfgoedinstellingen werd ontwikkeld om iedereen die erfgoed wil beschrijven op het niveau van (deel)collecties snel op weg te helpen. Cometa werd gelanceerd op Informatie aan Zee 2011. Ondertussen kwam het tot enkele praktische implementaties. De Erfgoedbibliotheek Hendrik Conscience maakte een begin met het beschrijven van haar deelcollecties in de bibliotheeksoftware Brocade, dat werd uitgebreid met een collectiebeschrijvingsmodule op basis van Cometa. Voor de collectiebeschrijvingen in haar erfgoeddatabank baseerde de provincie West-Vlaanderen zich op Cometa, dat hiervoor werd geïmplementeerd in het collectieregistratiesysteem AdLib. Erfgoedcel CO7 (zuidelijke Westhoek) bereidt met behulp van het Cometa-model de komst van het regionaal erfgoeddepot en de uitbouw van de regionale depotwerking voor. Overleg Cultuur regio Kortrijk bracht met Cometa de lokale archeologische vondstensembles en andere collecties stelselmatig in kaart. FARO ontwikkelde een sjabloon om binnen CollectiveAccess Cometa-informatie te kunnen bewaren. In Archiefbank kunnen archiefbestanden en collecties Cometa-conform worden beschreven, en Cometa-beschrijvingen uit andere databanken kunnen worden geharvest door Archiefbank. De Collectiewijzer Erfgoedbibliotheken werd aangepast aan het Cometa-model. KU Leuven begint dit jaar met de registratie van haar erfgoedcollecties volgens Cometa. In deze presentatie laten mensen uit de praktijk u kennis maken met inhoudelijke en technische aspecten van enkele Cometa-implementaties.

- 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
- 2. Our group realised that certain aspects of our film would need to be similar to other established film openings to be able to target our audience we were intending to. In order to do this, we had to research into a variety of film openings with the same genre that our group had chosen. For example Kidulthood, Adulthood, This is England. We want to follow these codes and conventions so our video is deemed professional, acceptable and recognisable but we still wanted to challenge the forms and conventions in order to make our opening stand out, be unique and memorable.
- 3. Whilst doing research on similar film openings we had realised the change in environment, clothing and lifestyle. Due to this we decided to follow the conventions of the opening for Adulthood as it is more of a modern film.
- 4. Adulthood starts off with a sequel in silence of the first film Kidulthood. This creates tension and suspense therefore our group decided to do something similar in order to attract and maintain our target audience. We had thought about using silence, like Adulthood, but we didn’t want our audience to lose interest therefore we didn’t take the risk. Adulthood has no titles till the end of the whole opening whereas our film has titles in between scenes and our film title and the end of our sequel.
- 5. We followed the major forms and conventions of social realist films by having an urban grime background in London; we used areas with low lighting in order to convey the social realist side of our film.
- 6. In real media products, representation is a major aspect, especially for the genre social realism as the audience tend to relate to situations portrayed in social realist films. Our actors were young therefore we followed conventions which stereotyped our characters, in order to do this we had them wear hoodies etc. Our film challenges the conventions of social realism when we dressed our characters in suits and had a business meeting scene.
- 7. We had created a production logo and a film company in order to portray our film opening as professionally as possible.
- 8. In conclusion, we mainly followed forms and conventions instead of challenging them in order to establish our chosen genres. Real media products helped us achieve this as it gave us ideas on how to direct our film. Our film opening outlines social issues young people face in life therefore our film opening follows the conventions of social realism.
