
 Teaching approach: My lesson plan is based on the PPP method and the
communicative approach.

 Integration of skills: What skills will be integrated and
how?Communicative skills will be developed through interaction.
Students will develop listening and speaking skills by listening and
singing songs, and by listening to the teacher and repeating. Reading and
writing skills will be also developed by answering questions.
 Materials and resources: I’ll use a computer, different puzzles of animals
and a poster. 

 Pedagogical use of ICT in class or at home: I will use a video to support
the teaching points. The use of videos is a motivating tool for students. 

 Seating arrangement: At the beginning of the lesson students will be on
their usual seats. They always sit in groups of three boys and three girls.
Then I’ll ask them to sit all together and I’ll sit with them to do the
different activities. 

 Assessment: what will be assessed and how: I’ll monitor all my students
through the lesson and I’ll check whether if they understand what I say or
not. I’ll try to make them repeat the different patterns and encourage
them to use the chunks meaningfully. Although they are in 5th grade they
are beginners and they don’t speak English. Their teacher doesn’t speak
English in the lessons so they don’t understand the language. According
to this, I’ll try to use gestures as much as possible to help them
understand.
Warm up (10 minutes)
Purpose: To begin the lesson and create a comfortable atmosphere; to
introduce the students to the topic.
The kids will come back from their playtime and I’ll be in the classroom waiting
for them. “Good morning! How are you? Are you fine or bad?” Once they are all in
their seats I’ll introduce myself and I’ll say that I’ll be their teacher for 4 lessons.
I’ll ask one of the students to write the date on the board and I’ll encourage the
other students to help him/her. Then, I’ll ask the students to sit in a group of 6
so we all can work together. I’ll sit with them and I’ll set the computer in a place
where we all can see.
Transition: “We will watch a video about animals now, ok?”
Presentation (10 minutes)
Purpose: To Expose the students to the language; to enhance students’
communicative skills and to develop or improve comprehensive skills.
We will watch the video about animals so students can recognize some animals.
The video has two parts. On the first part they have to watch and then they
have to sing the song naming the animals they see. They have to guess the
animals and use the “It’s a…” structure. While we watch the video I’ll name the
different animals and encourage the students to repeat too. We will watch the
video again so students can do it with more confidence.
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_sdGxUxz_4
Transition: “Ok, great job! Let’s find some other animals now!”
Development (25 minutes)
Purpose: to develop communicative skills; to foster interaction and to check
students’ knowledge of new vocabulary.
1) Activity 1 (10 minutes)
As first activity I’ll give the students different animals’ puzzles they have
to solve. Each of them will have two different animals. The name of the
animals will be in the puzzle so once they have solved it they will have
the name to read. “Well, it’s your turn now to guess the animals. You have
to find each animal and tell the class what animal it is.” Once the students
have solved the puzzles I’ll ask them about one of the pictures “Ok, Kati,
What is it?” and she has to answer “It’s a dog” each of the students will
answer and then I’ll encourage them to ask and answer about the rest of
the animals they have.
The puzzles will be as the one in the picture below. The animals will be:
Cat, dog, fish, frog,
goat, horse, mouse,
panda, tiger, fox,
lion, pig.
Transition: “Great! We will make a poster now so you can have your
animals in your classroom!”
2) Activity 2 (15 minutes)
In the second activity the students will have to color and stick the
puzzles on a poster and answer to the question ‘What animal is it?’ by
writing ‘It’s a/an…’ above the puzzles. “Now you have to color your
puzzles and then each of you will stick the animals here on the poster and
answer the question above each animal, Ok? Great! Let´s work”. Once we
have finished the poster we will place it on the classroom’s wall.
(Sample poster)
Transition: “You have made a great poster! It’s beautiful! It’s time to play a
game now”
Closure (15 minutes)
Purpose: to raise students’ motivation.
To close the lesson we will play ‘Miming‘. I’ll choose one of the kids and I’ll give
him/her a picture of an animal so the student will have to imitate the animal to
give the rest of the kids the clues togg guess. The student who first guesses the
animal will be the next imitator. “Tobias, come here! You have to imitate this
animal and the rest of you (I’ll point the students) have to guess, ok?” I’ll do it
once so they can understand the game. To play the game I’ll have small
flashcards to show the students the different animals.
We will play this game until break time.
“Great job everybody! We had a great time! It’s time to say goodbye now. Thanks
for your participation. You can go have breakfast (I’ll point the door). See you
tomorrow! Bye bye!”
