Have you ever read about two characters that have so many things in common? Well,
in The Scarlet Ibis , the main character William Armstrong shares many similarities
with the beautiful red bird that is found limp in a tree outside of the family s house.
Early in the book, we find out that the main character, known as Doodle, had many
complications at birth, which lead to the severe health problems he now has to face
throughout his childhood. These problems were the reasons why Doodle was not
normal like the kids around him. Walking, swimming, running, and playing outside
were all things that Doodle had trouble partaking in. We are introduced to the Scarlet
Ibisin the middle of the book in a depressing, yet beautiful way. When we meet the
bird, it is lying in a tree, weak and frail. Quickly, we find a similarity that the two
characters share. Doodle and the Ibis both have something pushing them until they
die. For instance, Doodles brother was non stop pushing him to be better and
better each day. He collapsed onto the grass like a half empty flour sack. It was as
if he had no bones in his little legs. Don t hurt me, Brother, he warned (Hurst 467).
As you can see, Doodle is forced daily to try to stand on his own, in the field near
their house, which is not healthy for him. Knowing that Doodle has internal
problems, you would have thought that his brother would not have pushed him so

Money plays an important factor in schools decisions for cutting or reducing fine
arts. Cutting fine arts saves money that could be used on academically stimulating
programs and bettering Core subject areas. An Arizona newspaper reported that a
school district was able to save one and a half million dollars when they completely
cut their fine arts program (Faller). Fine arts takes up a large portion of schools
budgets, and schools who cut it in its entirety would be able to save that money and
set it aside for academic programs with more measurable results. Alternatively,
schools also reduce their fine arts programs and make it more of an extracurricular
activity. This continues the schools involvement and sponsorship for the arts, but...
Educators, administrators, and the public might also argue to increase fine arts
funding, but only to the schools who are struggling to meet Core standards, as well
as other educational requirements. In school facilities where there are large
demographics of Hispanics and African Americans, students are less likely to have
the opportunity to take art classes (Holcomb). Since these students won t receive as
equal of an education as their peers, then something needs to intervene and equalize
their opportunities with those who have access to these programs. Historically
speaking, schools with high concentrations of minorities have generally had limited
access to fine arts classes (Holcomb). This has been an ongoing problem, and an
increase of funding to these schools may be the solution to the problem. According to
a study in Social Science Quarterly , socioeconomic and ethnicity are factors in music
participation in children; whites and Asians from higher socioeconomic backgrounds

As police walk into an abandoned house, a foul stench overtakes them. The room
is dim and looks as though no one has been here for months. They walk further into
the house and begin to see spots of blood on the floor. They follow this trail down
the stairs into the basement where the smell becomes overwhelming, causing some
of the officers to gasp and run back up the stairs. In the basement, they find the
remains of several young boys who have been molested and badly mutilated. What
could cause someone to participate in such horrendous deeds? What sort of person
is able to perform such wicked acts? Serial killers always have aroused the curiosity

The second key characteristic of most serial killers is an overwhelming need for
control. Women and children are often targeted because they are seen as weak and
easily dominated figures. Killers will tie their victims up with ropes or chains and
watch them helplessly struggle to free themselves. They may also torture them
and watch as their pleas for freedom fall upon deaf ears. Many killers are demented
and exhibit signs of future violence at a very early age. Society often turns to the

health, including brain injuries, malnutrition, and other developmental disorders (49
50). Violence early in life may lead to these undesirable tendencies to abuse and kill.
Parents often believe that strict discipline will help the individual grow up to be

When the Provisional Government came into power Russia was in a state of
major unrest. Russia had just overthrown the Tsarist regime, which had been in
place for three hundred years and there were multiple groups who wanted to take
power for themselves such as Lenin s Bolsheviks, they were fighting in an endless
war and losing terribly, peasants where rebelling in the countryside and the people
were angered over food shortages. On top of all these problems the Provisional
Government was made up of members of the Duma who had no experience actually
being in charge or having power over anything let alone the biggest and most
culturally diverse country in the world. All these factors played a role in the
downfall of the Provisional Government but overall it was the Provisional
Government who played the biggest part in their own failure.
When started the Provisional Government was an interim government which was to
govern Russia until a new constitution was drawn up. But as soon as the
Provisional Government was put in charge it faced the immediate problem of
legitimacy. It was made up of members of the Duma and was dominated by
members of the Octoberist and Kadet parties, who were minorities with only one
radical member, Alexander Kerensky. This would give the Provisional Government
the problem of not truly representing the people. If it was made up of minorities how
