Liberal Party In Canada
The Liberal Party is the oldest and most dominant federal level political party in Canada. The
party was founded on July 1st, 1867 and has since provided Canada with 10 Prime Ministers.
(Clarkson McCall, 12) The party originated during the mid 19th century when the English and
French colonies of Lower Canada(Quebec) and Upper Canada (Ontario) formed opposition groups.
The Grits of Upper Canada lead by George Brown and the Parti Rouge (Reds) of Lower Canada.
(Rayside, 2016) In the late 1850 s these two groups briefly consolidated to form a government,
which ultimately failed and resulted in separation of the parties. This failure led the Parti Rouge to
consider a different political stance, thus coalesce of The Grits and the Parti Rouge to form the
Liberal Party of Canada in 1867.
In the early years after confederation the Conservatives dominated the Canadian political scene
from 1867 until 1896, with the omission of 5 years, from 1873 1878. (Liberal.ca, 2005) The first
Prime Minister of Canada in 1867 was Sir John A. Macdonald leading the Conservative party. This
party was strong and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He became the countries first Francophone Prime Minister in 1896 and maintained this position
until 1911. (Rayside, 2016) With Laurier s guidance the Liberal party began to advance their
political stance and unified over a centrist based platform. Laurier was also able to bridge the
gap between cultural and regional differences primarily over language English and French. He
was able to win the election of 1896 with a platform focused on national unity and provincial
rights. During the 15 years that Laurier was Prime Minister there was unexpected growth and
immigration increased. Which lead to the formation of two new provinces in 1905 being Alberta
and Saskatchewan. (Library and Archives Canada, 2016) Thus leading to the obligatory expansion
of the railway and two new lines were built to

Fossil Lagerstätten
A Fossil Lagerstätten is an undisturbed fossil accumulation in which fossils are exceptionally
preserved. There are two types of fossil lagerstätten: Concentration Lagerstätten (Konzentrat
Lagerstätten) and Conservation Lagerstätten (Konservat Lagerstätten). Concentration
Lagerstätten are deposits of an immense number of preserved fossils, whereas Conservation
Lagerstätten are the preservation of fossils in terms of quality rather than quantity (Nudds and
Selden, 2008). There might be few fossils in the rock strata, however, the preservation of these
are exemplary. There are many outcropping areas on Earth in which fossils are preserved like this.
One example of a group of strata that has retained fossils in this way is the Crato Formation.

(2016), the Araripe group would belong to the Aptian Albian Stages in the Lower CretaceousPeriod.
The Crato Formation lithologies were most likely deposited when there was a marine
transgression; which is what the Cretaceous period is renowned for (Hu et al. 2012). The build up
of laminated limestones and different lithologies in the stratigraphic column could suggest that it
was a lagoon depositional environment (Martill and Frey, 1998).
Fossil Assemblage
The most prominent fossils in the Crato Formation are the insects that are preserved. One
example of an insect that has been recently found is the Araripenymphes seldeni (as seen in figure

A.seldini is: Nymphidae Family Neuroptera Order, and Insecta Class (Myskowiak et al., 2016).
This particular species shows sexual dimorphism, a difference in characteristics beyond the sexual
organs (Clarkson, 1998). In particular, differences in the wing colouration and wing lengths

My Personal Preference For My Research Process
My personal preference for my research process begins by reading the instructions of the assignment
thoroughly. This is residual effect of having been tricked once during a test in middle school.
During her instructions, the teacher mentioned several times that we need to read the test
instructions and all the questions thoroughly before starting. However, as I was concerned with the
time allocated for the test, I skimmed through the instructions and began writing. Well, turns out it
was a one of those tests that the last question instructed to just write your name in the first page
and hand it in. Lesson learned, the hard way of course. Consequently, I always begin every test,
project and assignment by reading all the instructions, twice, before I ever begin the task that is
being asked of me.
Once I have read the assignment instructions, I would search the terms listed in the question, for
this portion of my approach a simple engine search would suffice. I will not to use the results of
the search as a basis for my academic writing, but to simply familiarize myself with what is being
ask of me. Regardless of the topic, when conducting a general search you can come across current
events, that may be relevant or a commemorative event that is taking place to honor someone and
their work, and this information can be later incorporated in to the essay as needed.
Depending on how much time we were given for the assignment, I would plan approximately four
hours a week at Scott s

The Slopes Of War By. Perez
In the historical fiction novel The Slopes of War by N.A. Perez, the author illustrates the gruesome
battle that befell the little market town of Gettysburg during the Civil War through the various
perspectives of all the people whom were immersed and affected. These people included young men
fighting, generals arguing about their plans and tactics, and innocent citizens who aided causalities
regardless of what color their uniform happened to be. Perspectives from both the Confederate and
Union armies are offered in the text to grasp a better understanding of all the thoughts occurring
throughout the entire battle, as well as before and after. Throughout the novel, Perez elucidates the
emotional and physical aspects of warthe people endured, such as traumatizing, graphic images
that can serve as bad omens, and loss of loved ones. Also, the book further explains what war
truly signified, which was death. The positive results and overall effects of the war as described
in the novel, however, somewhat outweighs the negative causes and struggles. In the book Crispin
written by Avi, there is a particular quote in the novel on the first page in which reads, In the
midst of life comes death, in the midst of death comes life. This quote can be related to the novel
in numerous ways, and can be applied to life in general, too.
The quote can be interpreted in a myriad of different ways. Throughout our lives, death will surely
occur. It may not befall us at this current moment, but

Mother Daughter Conflict In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
In Alice Walker s short story, Everyday Use , the mother daughter conflict theme is portrayed in
the entire story. The oldest daughter Dee constantly believes that she is better than then everyone
else in the family. This has caused a family feud about who gets the quilt. The quilt was very
cherished because it was a familyheirloom. Dee has always had a lot of power over her family
and she soon finds out that it is going to end soon. The biggest problem lies between Mama and
Dee. This is clearly illustrated by Dee s selfish behavior, high standards, and her her ignorance
about her family s heritage. Dee s superiority stems from the fact that she sets high standards for
Mama, which in turn causes Mama to feel inferior to Dee. Dee demands Mama to act a certain
way, which is reminiscent of a television show. On TV mother and child embrace and smile in
each other s faces. Sometimes the mother and father weep, the child wraps them in her arms
and leans across the table and tell how she would have made it without her help (paragraph 3).
This description is the polar oppositeness of how Dee acts towards her mother; Mama is well
aware of the fact that her own daughter will never embrace her like the people in the TV shows.
Another major flaw of Dee s is that she acts ashamed of both Mama and her family s background.
Dee s impossibly high standards drive the ones who should be closest to her, her family, away.
She is constantly nagging and is persistent at finding things she thinks need to be fixed, even
going so far as being hypocritical about these various fixings. Mama says she pins on my dress a
large orchid, even though she has told me once that she thinks orchids are tacky flowers
(paragraph 4). Dee needs everything to be luxurious and elegant in her life. But even the first
glimpse of leg out of the car tells me it is Dee. Her feet were always near looking, as if God
himself had shaped them with a certain style (paragraph 19). As seen through this excerpt, Mama
puts Dee on a high pedestal and even relates her daughters foot to God. Dee s selfishnessis also
portrayed through her verbal skills. She is often manipulating others through her speech and can
talk her way through just about anything. A

The Protestant Reformation, Religious Unity, and Calvinism...
Introduction
The Protestant Reformation of the Catholic Church devastated the religious unity of Christian
Europe, resulting in a great deal of antagonism, which in turn led to the persecutions, denial of civil
rights, expulsion, and ultimately the torture and death of many men, women and children. The
ongoing conflict was not consigned to one distinct European nation, but was experienced in every
European nation that the Catholic Church ruled and reigned. There was no worldview in Europe at
that time that allowed for the religious differences of men to coexist peaceably.
As quoted by McGrath in his book, French Protestantism to the Present Day. From Britain in the
west to Hungary and Poland in the east, thousands of towns and ... Show more content on

In October of 1534, the Affair of the Placard occurred, what made this event of great importance,
was that it was a planned, written Protestant attack on the Catholic doctrine of Mass. These
posters, which condemned the practice of Mass, also appeared just about simultaneously in
several major cities of France overnight to include Paris, where Calvin lived. Francis I, retaliated
harshly and swiftly possibly, because of the recent treaty that he had signed with Spain to end the
Thirty Year War. Francis, possible to ensure his loyalty toward the Pope and the treaty arrested and
executed the Protestants whom were responsible. Calvin like many other fearing for their safety
left France, Calvin choosing to escape to Switzerland.
Reforming Christianity
When Calvin arrived in Geneva, William Farel saw in Calvin the leader that Geneva needed and he
urged the young scholar to go no farther but to stay in the city and help establish the work there
(Shelley, 2008, 256) . Calvin s patronage from Geneva helped with the growth and development of
the French Protestant movement in the 1550s. Calvin trained French Protestant pastors at the
Geneva Academy, and helped to smuggle them back into France to establish and develop local
congregations. It was also during this time he wrote Institutes of the Christian Religion, in 1536,
that put into words the

I chose Cosimo because not only did he make a lot of money and Money = Success, but he also
pushed forward his Civilization (Florence, Italy) single handedly ushering in a new age. He also
introduced a lot of outside influences and cultures to Europe which was a rare occurrence in the
15th Century. Cosimo was born and lived out his life in Florence, Italywhich is located on planet
Earth. His legacy is that of a man who brought a flourish of culture advanced Italy and Europe
forward with his quest for the knowledge of other nations. He was sly, and also a natural academic,
these factors led to him being able to take advantage of local politicians as well as persuade the
people to believe that his political views were correct.

The Contrast Between the Daily Mail and the Independent...
The Contrast Between the Daily Mail and the Independent Newspapers need to aim at a specific
corner of the market to be successful. The main reason for this is that if you have a readership
consisting of a specific class or type of people eg. Middle class business men. Then advertisers
who want to appeal to that specific audience will use that paper for their advert and the paper can
obtain large profits from adverts and the advertisers can sell lots of products. Therefore the paper
needs to know the readers status so it can tell the advertisers what kind of people they could reach
by advertising with them. Whereas the Mail doesn t put adverts on the front page (as there is
limited space), the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also uses the symbol of an eagle which conveys an image of class and elegance as well as
wisdom and authority as the eagle is the top of its food chain. The headlines of these two papers
differ vastly as they are trying to achieve different aims. The Mail s headline of THE BLAIR
MUTINY was designed to give a dramatic look to the page as it is in a huge, bold text. It is also
a WOB (white on black) which is only used when it is a serious and important issue. It uses the
word Mutiny which adds lots of stress to the headline as it is a powerful word that has a
dramatic. The use of Blair Mutiny is clever as it mimics The Cain Mutiny which was when the
crew of Cain s ship mutinied, just like now as Blair s crew , the cabinet are revolting. The
Independents headline of Short faces the sack over act of treachery is much less in your face as
it is printed in a much smaller print than the Mail s and also it isn t in bold. Unlike the Mail the
independent haven t used WOB (white on black) which gives it a lower profile. The use of the
word treachery gives it more drama and emphasis. Although it is obvious to see that this paper is
not looking to attract readers by impact and dramatic looks, it is more aiming at people that will

Journey Of A Woman From All India Women s Conference
Journey of a woman from All India Women s Conference to International Council of Women
The difference between a man and woman arises when they are socially labeled as male and
female ,thereby attaching characteristics of masculine and feminine to it.As Simone de Beauvoir
says, One is not born but rather becomes a woman. Women are always put at the lower level on
the table of social, political or economic hierarchy. So the fatherhood is a sociological fiction and
motherhood is just a biological fact. Some of the feminists have argued that the word woman itself
includes the word man which deprives the women to have their own identities exclusive of
men. Also Maya Angelou has quoted, How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our
heroes and she roes! Like all other social groups, women have also organized themselves within
groups equipped with their agenda and ideologies in order to upgrade their position in all aspects of
life.Though their have been many instances where individual groups could not bring about a
change and the strong structure of patriarchy crushed them in order to make it adjustable to the
prevalent arrangements. It is in the modern times that provided the space for fee play of women
protest aligning with other groups to alternate the arrangements. This flame of oppression turned
into a fire when different groups of women from different parts of the world protest against it.When
there was a whole gamut of pressure from different women groups, the

Justice In In The Republic
Justice according to you and Homer and Simonedes, is apparently a kind of art of stealing but

Ed Wuncler s greed takes over his personality so much. Ed Wuncler is portrayed as a fat white

Vertical Integration Case Study
Media Essay: David Russell How important is vertical integration for institutions and audience?
Vertical integration is when a company, e.g. Warner Bros oversees the planning and also the
creation of a specific product. The way they oversee this is by advertisement, marketing and
distribution; for example Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. A company which is
vertically integrated, has control over all the product s life when making, or selling the product.
Warner Bro s. is not actually fully integrated, . many Many think it is, however it doesn t own any

The Theory Of Government Spending And Fiscal Policy
The ISLM model uses many of the same ideas that Keynes did to show change in output in
equilibrium. Using ISLM, both monetary and fiscal policy can be effective, depending on the
slopes of both IS and LM curves. As the General Theory suggests, government spending and fiscal
policy can be very effective when the IS schedule is steep and the LM curve is flat. When this
happens, there is a low interest elasticity of investment, which leads to less crowding out because
investment is not very sensitive to changes in interest rates.
Monetarist school of thought preserves Keynes idea that there is a natural rate of unemployment in
the long run. In the short run they both believe that unemployment rate can go below the natural
rate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Economist Hyman Minsky created the financial instability hypothesis in response to the efficient
market hypothesis that Keynes created in the 1970s. Keynes develop developed a basic theory of
investment, crediting investment with being the driving variable that operates through a multiplier
to establish total income (Wray, 2015, p. 4) Minsky looks to Keynes investment theory of the
business cycle and as an extension, adds his financial theory of investment that allowed him to
analyze the capital economy that exists today. Minsky thought that investment finance plays a large
role in the economy and that it cannot be overlooked. He believes that government intervention is
absolutely essential, as can be seen throughout history. Before Big Government and Big Banks,
recessions in the economy were severe, frequent, and lengthy. Upon their introduction recession
have become milder and less frequent. Central banks act as a lender of last resort. Policies were
introduced to act as stabilizers and kept the economy from ever getting back to the point where it
was during the great depression. (Rezende, 2015) In his financial instability hypothesis, Minsky
argues that when the economy appears to be stable, expectations go up and there is increased
optimism, which eventually leads to instability. Essentially, stability in the economy leads to
instability. This occurs because with this increase in optimism, people s behaviors change and
create financial bubbles, which

schools are pursing many opportunities to avoid this type of situations. In this report, the data on

age, volume of workload, and amount of salaries. Thus, this analysis might help solve this question:

body as well as the new focusing in the evolution of art. The nude first became significant in the art
of ancient Greece, where athletic competitions at religious festivals celebrated the human body,
particularly the male, in an unparalleled way. (Jean) Thus, the social standard of the time in
aesthetic, modesty and morality was reflected in every nudityart work .Nude male figures, in
sculptures and paintings, of warriors, charioteers and musicians had become more and more
popular as the symbol of energy and power of life or were used as the symbol of God, Goddess and
Heroes. But nude figures of Gods and Goddess were no longer allowed by the Christianity in the
Renaissancebecause of emphasizing on chastity and celibacy further discounted depictions of
nakedness (Jean) , nude figures of athletic were used as an expression of virility as well as the
beauty of the human body. Nudity in the Middle Agesbecame sinful, therefore, nude figures were
rare in the medieval art and the artists were focusing on creating art about God and Goddess and
their power rather than depicting the beauty of the human body. And by the end of the medieval
period, nude female figures intended to be attractive and slowly brought back into art and became
popular again. In the Baroque to Modern art, nudity still played an important role in art. In the
Baroque period, nude art had changed and became

Lao-Tzu Vs Machiavelli
Peace and War
(Compare Machiavelli and Lao Tzu)
Throughout ancient history, there have been a number of ways that human beings have
attempted or succeed in governing people. There has been an assortment of religions or
philosophical ways that were said to be the best way to lead people, in order to gain power, or
whatever their goal might be. Many of these ideas went against each other, saying the other one
was wrong. One example of this was Niccole Machiavelli and his philosophical view, through The
Prince, that said it was better to be feared than loved as a ruler. Then there is the ancient religion
of Taoism that was founded by Lao Tzu. In Religion of the World, it describes the basic virtue of

Lao tzu founded and wrote about his beliefs in order to guide others that wanted to follow in his
path. He described the way of life, and the best way to do it. It was for both his followers, and
for future rulers and politicians. He believed that if the people should be governed under
Taoism. Like Lao tzu, Machiavelli wanted to write for his followers, and the leaders that would
rule behind him. His writing were instructions on how to be a prince, or a ruler of some kind.
His writings would be able to be read and followed for centuries to come. Gerald Lee Ratliff is
the award winning author that has depicted Machiavelli s life through in one of his writings, and
said Machiavelli s purpose was to describe the realities of political life... many modern politicians
have read The Prince, and no doubt they have learned something from it. (Ratliff) These people
weren t always the best, including followers like Adolf Hitler. These rulers must have listened
closely when Machiavelli, in The Prince, said Since love and fear can hardly exist together, if
we must choose between them, it is far safer to be feared than loved. There were also young
princes in the monarchy era that governed their people by the way Machiavelli said to. In both
ways, for good or evil, these writers set guidelines for future generations and

Limitations Of Travelling
The ability to travel anywhere, whether it is in your own country, or to another place abroad, is
a privilege that is sometimes hard for others to accept. Being able to travel can often teach you
more than a job, relationship, or a lecture ever will, which is contrary to popular belief. Likewise,
it is also most certainly a gift to have the ability to experience the wonders of the outside world.
However, there are many people out there who feel that they are not in the position to be able to
travel due to various reasons. Reasons such as politics between countries and simply being able to
afford traveling are some of the main issues. Authors Natalie Thomas and Hannah Peterson, both
addresses the positive reasons of why people should travel. Whereas, Lisa van Beurden and Oneika
Raymond comment on the limitations of traveling. Thomas and Peterson, both who are in favor in
traveling, has accumulated many reasons why one should travel. They both believe that traveling
allows people to stretch the limits of [their] comfort zone (Thomas). The authors think that this is
beneficial to people because even though they may be immersed in an unfamiliar and
uncomfortable surrounding, they will often find something positive to make out in the situation.
Ultimately, people will discover new things, be exposed to new cultures and make new connections
and friends. Through zip lining through the forests of the Amazon to navigating the streets of Hong
Kong, traveling brings adventures and

I Am A Kid
I always think back to when I was just a kid. I had a happy childhood from what I can remember.
My parents both died in their sleep when I was about six years old. Doctors could never find out
why, they called it a medical mystery or whatever. It was harder on my older brother, Noah. My
younger brother Justin was just two years old when it happened. He barely even recalls my
parents now. After our parents death, we were adopted by a Japanese couple. It was pretty cool
considering our family was also Japanese too, so we wouldn t lose our culture. Our adoptive
parents names are John Izanagi Lee and our mother s name is Linda Izanami Lee. Our parents
always acted weird around us and told us about their lives back in Japan and how people
basically worshipped the ground they walked on. When I was about nine, I finally asked why
people worshipped them so much back in Japan and they sat me down and told me. They
explained to my siblings and I that they are creator God and Goddesses. I was in total disbelief!
But I finally believed them of course, my parents had never lied to me, ever. They told us stories
of the creation of the Islands of Japan. They then began to explain that my siblings and I were also
deities. But we mustn t tell anyone! They told my brothers all about the job of the Susan Гґ, which
is the violent god associated with storms and the sea. My older brother, Noah ,was crowned that

Science I Term Paper
The research paper that this term paper is based on is Interactions Among Plant Transcription
Factors Regulating Expression of Stress responsive Genes, Sony Malhotra and R. Sowdhamini,
National Center for Biological Sciences, June 2014, Bioinformatics and Biology Insights.
Abstract:
Plants are known to respond to abiotic stress by up or down regulating their genes. This is done by
activating transcription factors. It is known that these transcription factors, though they have DNA
binding domains, interact amongst each other for the regulation of gene production. In order to find
out which transcription factors interact and how, the research uses genetic and molecular structure
information available in databases and computationally analyses the data. The factors that lead to
the conclusion of interaction between transcription factors includes spatial proximity and possible
interaction poses. Molecular docking is used to predict the interaction poses and DockScore is a
scoring system used to rank the interaction poses.
Introduction:
Plants are immobile and therefore need mechanisms to counteract stresses that they face from their
environment. Cold, high light, drought, salinity, abscisic acid, rehydration and combination of
stresses like cold drought salt stress are common abiotic stresses that plants encounter. In order to
deal with these stresses, plants either up regulate or down regulate their genes; that is, they increase
the production of

Radical Reconstruction Research Paper
No one with an ounce of sanity would rejoice at being a racist. Over time, it has become ingrained
in American culture to accept and be proud of the many differences among people. However, about
130 years ago, African Americans were subject to harsh segregation policies as a result of racial
discrimination. In a postbellum America, the Union desperately attempted to reform the former
Confederate States, utilizing Reconstruction policies that established a new political and societal
atmosphere. A major component of this era, the Radical Reconstruction, aimed at initiating and
enforcing equality toward African Americans. Nonetheless, the rash treatment of African

Black Codes in the South placed numerous restriction on African Americans, which gave them
second class citizenship, even with the Civil Rights Act of 1866 that ensured citizenship for African
American men. Race Riots on the streets were a method for southern whites to publicly protest
against Reconstruction policies and resulted in the mass murder of numerous African Americans in
bloody brawls fueled by the resentment of equality that many demonstrated. The Ku Klux Klan,
comprised of prejudiced whites who wanted to subvert Reconstruction policies and maintain a
stigma of anti equality, performed acts of violence by deliberately targeting and killing African
Americans, forcing them to live in fear of being murdered. While the intention of the
Reconstruction was to reform the white supremacy in the South and introduce equality, the policies
passed did more harm than good by increasing racial prejudice through the growing cloud of anti
African American sentiments looming over Southern society. The people of modern society have

For Aquaman followers, it is a known fact that the DC super hero loses his arm in the comics. The
question is, will Jason Momoa s character also be losing the very same arm?
If Jason Momoa s appearance holds any clue, it may just follow Peter David s version of the
character. Peter David, the writer of the Time and Tide series, gives the super hero a rugged look.
He forgoes the clean cut appearance and gives him a long beard and rugged facial features. In the
comics and the TV animation series, Aquaman loses his left hand to several different stories.
One, he tries to save his mother and son from destruction while he is cuffed somewhere else. He

Marsalis Phenomenon Analysis
Despite this turn over, the pattern of moving from one style to the next benefited postmodern jazz
musicians as they were able to capitalize upon the apparent open mindedness from the public to the
varied methods of musical expression (358). Through the help of the Association for the
Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), musicians were able to find performing
opportunities, rehearsal space, and other career support (358). The first president of the
organization, pianist Richard Abrams, gathered musicians such as Anthony Braxton, and Lester
Bowie to produce work that focused on the qualities of sound as opposed to conventional
delineations of harmony, melody, and rhythm (358).
Many artists from the organization came to make their mark on postmodernism as their work
reflected a breakdown of styles into their constituent elements, sometimes focusing on one isolated
aspect while at other times combining the pieces into surprising new wholes (359). Artists such as
Wynton Marsalis took the spotlight in the supplemental reading for the thirteenth week. The article

dinosaur? This essay will analyze the movie Jurassic Park directed by Colin Trevorrow, the
movie sheds light on ancient dinosaurs and their characteristics. However, this essay will analyze
the movie to determine the factual truths while at the same time verifying if Jurassic park could
be a relevant source to gain knowledge of dinosaurs. The beginning of the essay speaks briefly
about dinosaurs and how we know they exist. The film is based on the recreation of dinosaurs and
people s interaction with them, however the elements of the film that will be analyzed are: the
creation of the film, in terms of the facts about dinosaurs, second the manner in which knowledge
is obtain from the film (senses) and thirdly, the emotional influence of the film on viewers. Many
films are more than just entertainment, some we obtain truth and knowledge from. First of all,
dinosaurs have been around for a very long time, but they are extinct now. We got to obtain
knowledge about dinosaurs through the paleontologists because they found fossils around the 19th
century. In the movie we discover that there are two types of dinosaurs on the island, carnivores
and herbivores. The little boy mentions I heard there are four herbivores and six carnivores at the
beginning of the movie. This information he has just said is true, but also there are many other

Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) is defined as the recovery of an isolate of S. pneumoniae

The End Of World War II And Creation Of The United Nations
The end of World War II and creation of the United Nations (UN) in 1945, set the world on a new
evolutionary path. This unique evolution commenced with the United States (US) and the Union
of Soviet Socialists Republics (USSR) as world powers as a result of their distinctive roles in
ending World War II. Their contradicting ideologies as to the basis of this new evolution sparked a
cold war bringing fear and great concerns to the masses. Inspite of the intensity of this war, the UN
assumed its responsibilities in ensuring peace and encouraging both nations to peacefully sort out
their differences. This consequently recorded the first involvement of the UN in the world
superpowers affairs. Currently, the evolution transits into new superpowers; the United Statesan

At the beginning of the novel, the narrator identifies an unintelligible clamor as being the thoughts
of the women of 124, unspeakable thoughts, unspoken. In part two of the novel, Morrison vocalizes
these unspoken thoughts through fragmented internal monologue and stream of consciousness,
stylized to represent the characters state of being. This is when the narrative moves closer to
describing the core event, and thus becomes more fragmented as it is told by those closely affected.
This implies that approaching memory causes a rupture with reality; an uncontrollable

Skeletal Muscle Analysis
The solid framework is the body s system of tissues that controls development both of the body and
inside it, (for example, the heart s pumping activity and the development of nourishment through
the gut). Development is created through the constriction and unwinding of particular muscles.
The muscles of the body are isolated into two primary classes: skeletal (willful) and smooth
(automatic). Skeletal muscles are connected to the skeleton and move different parts of the body.
They are called willful on the grounds that an individual controls their utilization, for example, in
the flexing of an arm or the raising of a foot. There are around 650 skeletal muscles in the entire
human body. Smooth muscles are found in the stomach and intestinal dividers, vein and corridor

Like skeletal muscles, heart muscles are striated. However like smooth muscles, they are automatic,
controlled by the autonomic sensory system.
The longest muscle in the human body is the Sartorius (purported sar TOR ee us). It runs starting
from the waist over the front of thigh to the knee. Its design is to flex the hip and knee. The
biggest muscle in the body is the gluteus Maximus (professed GLUE tee us MAX si mus; bottom

muscles are presumably the most well known kind of muscle. They are the muscles that throb
after strenuous work or activity. Skeletal muscles make up around 40 percent of the body s mass
or weight. They balance out joints, help look after carriage, and give the body its general shape.
They likewise utilize a lot of oxygen and supplements from the blood supply. Skeletal muscles are

In order to accomplish this the researchers used partially digested DNA fragments from a
Doberman pinscher to create a large insert bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) canine
genomic library. PCR testing, chromosome walking, homology mapping, DNA sequencing, etc.,
was performed on the canine model and compared to a human model. Comparison of gene maps
for several affected and non affected animals allowed the sequence to be narrowed down into a
region likely to be involved with narcolepsy. The researchers were able to determine that
mutations in the hypocretin (orexin) receptor 2 gene (Hcrtr2) resulted in canine narcolepsy. On a
surface level, this article was first chosen because it was one of the most frequently cited articles
involving narcolepsy. However upon reading it, one can see why it has great significance. The
paper established that hypocretins play a major role as neurotransmitters in sleep. Further research
was conducted to see if Hcrtr2 played a similar role in humans and if targeting the gene could cure

Emphasizing The True Meaning Of Poems By Andrew Marvell...
Kinsey Jordan
Mrs. Russler
English Honors I
February 4, 2015
Emphasizing the True Meaning of Poems Around the seventeenth century the poets Andrew
Marvell and John Donne expressed their feelings through poetry. Both John Donne, born in 1572
and Andrew Marvell, born in 1621 in England, are known for their ideas of metaphysical poetry.
Metaphysical poetry is a persuasive poem that uses a conceit. It focuses on imagery, paradoxes,
arguments, philosophy and religion. Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress and John Donne s A
Valediction: Forbidding Mourning, focus on the theme of love, which was trending at that time.
Although both poems justify the importance and essence of love, the tone differs in each poem
making them distant from each other. The figurative language also makes the two poems different.
However, they both focus on the idea of Carpe Diem, enjoying the moment and not worrying about
the future. Through comparing these poems, the differences and similarities result in the true
understanding and effectiveness of the poems. In To His Coy Mistress, Andrew Marvell does not
perceive true, fervent love, but rather that time and beauty will not last. The tone of this poem is
sad, but the author seems to make it happier. There is an example shown in the first stanza;
Had we but world enough and time...we would sit down, and think which way to walk, and pass
our long love s day. (1 4) Marvell appears to be straying from the idea of Carpe Diem; stating that if

Actors In Remember The Titans
The three actors that I have decided to identify from the movies, Remember the Titans are:
Denzel Washington, Will Patton and Wood Harris. Their classification is that Denzel
Washington is categorized as a personality actor. Will Patton is a categorized as an impersonator
actor and Wood Harris is also categorized as a personality actor as well. I fell that Denzel
Washington is considered to be a personality actor because the role or character that he plays
(Coach Herman Boone) is a man who demands perfection from his players on and off of the
football field. Washington embodies the role of the character making it hard to tell the difference
between the actor and his character or role being play (Goodykoontz Jacob, 2014). Will Patton is

Colombia Drug Policy
The US Approach in Colombia
As the United States is one of the largest drug consumers in the world they view drugs particularly
cocaine as a threat to US national security that undermines US economy, value, and identity. With
this in mind, the US uses an approach that assumes that if there is no supply then there would be no
demand, contradicting the capitalist concept of supply demand. US drug policy is divided into two
groups from policies of control to policies of aid. In Colombia, the United States has been using its
political and economic influence mainly through economic assistance since Andean states generally
have a weak economy when compared to their counterpart. This approach tends to be overly
realistic with policies following the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a change in viewpoint the United States began to see the armed rebel groups such as FARC as
narco terrorists, changing the focus of US engagement which was only about the drugs. President
George Bush along with congress began to allocate funds to counter insurgency. This particular shift
changed US policy, from a war on drug to a war on terror. With no statutory ending date for the plan,
the plan programs continued through the Andean Counterdrug Initiative (ACI). During the Bush s
second term, the administration changed its focus to face the economic issues by implementing a
Free Trade Area (FTA) within the Americas.
Later on, under President Barack Obama there has been significant changes since the Bush s
administration strategy was unsuccessful. Military cooperation with Colombia has increased with
the Obama administration. Moreover, Obama focus more on rebuilding ties with other Latin
American nations to decrease US strategic dependence on Colombian alliance. Overall, the
administration and the US congress in 2010 has signaled intentions to turn over the majority of
Plan Colombia s responsibilities to the Colombian

The Types Of Parliamentary Democracies
The two types of Parliamentary democracies are direct democracy, also known as consociational or
consensus democracy, and representative democracy, otherwise called majoritarian democracy
(Dickovick 118 120). A consensus democracy is founded on the principle that the citizens govern
directly and that power is distributed between the executive and legislative branches to prevent and
limit one branch from gaining too much power. An example of a consensus democracyis
Switzerland, as it promotes consensus of the people, and it exhibits the factors necessary for a
direct democracy. Alternatively, a majoritarian democracy is based on the principle of majority
rules, and that power is concentrated and centralized. The United Kingdom is an example of a
majoritarian democracy because it follows the majority rule principle and possesses all the
qualities of a representative democracy. While consensus democracy and majoritarian democracies
are both forms of democracy, the contrasting approaches to democratic rule they engage in
foremost pertaining to the ideas of distribution of political power, causes the two types of
democracy to be diametrically opposite. A consociational or consensus democracy is commonly
used in heterogeneous or plural societies, as a majority rule democracy would be unpredictable and
hazardous in such a society. consensus democracy has its virtues in the front end of democracy. It
emphasizes the belief of the consensus of the people rather than the

Decarbonize Urban Areas
If we are going to decarbonise our cities and regions, we need to promote high density urban
development. Increasing density reduces the size of houses and overall its consumption of
resources (Rauland and Newman 2011). The authors further contend, therefore that increasing
density has numerous other benefits, including enabling better public transport infrastructure such
as light rail and trains as well as increasing the walkability of cities, all of which will significantly
reduce transport emissions ( Rauland and Newman p. 6. 2011). Adding density to transform cities
can also improve quality of life by offering more local amenities and better lifestyles ( Rauland and
Newman 2011). The Cockburn Town Centre development is perfect example.

Genetically Modified Organisms Into The Environment
The first genetically modified organism, in 1973, consisted of bacterial cells that were injected
with ribosomial RNA genes from an African clawed toad (Xenopus). An experiment which was
conducted by Stanley Cohen, Herbert Boyer, and Paul Berg (Wells). However, the first
organism genetically modified and sold to the general public in 1994 was the, albeit
unsuccessful, Flavr Savr delayed ripening tomato, according to the GMO timeline. While the
tomato was able to resist rotting it failed to resist becoming squishy so while it was riper longer
it lost its firmness and was unappealing to the public for consumption. Other genetically modified
foods discontinued from the market that deserve brief mentions are the NewLeaf potato, StarLink
corn, Zeneca tomato paste, Triffid flax, and Bt176 corn all pulled from the market after only a
few short years as they did not meet standards set by the FDA nor did they appeal to the public.
The introduction of genetically modified organisms into the environment has caused controversy
over the public s health from consumption of the organisms and the potential risks to the wild
populations. Genetic manipulation as a means of rapidly producing livestock for the soul purpose
of human consumption is an area with which we must use appropriately. As to not increase the loss
of organisms through over fishing of the aquatic habitats or over hunting of terrestrial ones. The
purpose of this paper is to explore the effects of genetically modified

Effects Of Global Warming On The World Essay
Diseases, war, etc... Those are major concerns of this world, and climate change is always a hot
issue given to debate. It s not just a matter of a single country, but it s a problem of the whole
human race. Humanity is facing the risk of extinction. The impact of environmental pollution leads
to climate change and natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes. Those
disasters are caused by the impact of humans to nature, such as deforestation, ecological imbalance,
and use of chemicals. Gas emissions from industries in urban areas are also a big factor that causes
global warming. Earth s temperature has been increasing each year. Glaciers melting are one of
the early signs of global warming. If more glaciers melt, the sea level will increase which may
cause flooding in certain areas. Global dimming is even more harmful to humans than global
warming. Global dimming is also caused by humans because of the air pollution caused by burning
coal, oil, and wood, which releases carbon dioxideto the earth s atmosphere. Air pollution can cause
all kinds of illnesses, such as lung cancer, heart diseases, and asthma. Climate change is impactful
worldwide. Even though some people say that climate change happens naturally, I believe it is
caused by the impact of human activity. It is clear to see how the impact of humans affects the
climate. As the human population increases rapidly, the need for housing, food, factories, and
buildings also increases. Although, forests

Cancer Kryptonite Case Study
Cancer Kryptonite: Using Deadly Disease to Cure Deadly Disease
After reviewing the study of the effects of chimeric antigen receptor modified T cells (CAR T
cells) on acute lymphocytic leukemia, it appears that this type of treatment shows promise for
the treatment of this and many other difficult to kill cancers. This technique was pioneered and
developed by Dr. Carl June. He began his research on T cells in the late 1980s to early 1990s while
in the Navy. The research he would do and the other researchers he would meet at this time would
pave the way for what could be considered to be groundbreaking cancer research today. What

to recognize a self cell from a non self cell,
2. mount a successful response/attack,
3. remember each specific pathogen/antigen for future attacks.
To be able to recognize a self cell from a non self cell, T cells have receptors on their surfaces that
recognize antigens on the surfaces of other cells. When one of these antigens, or parts of the disease
that the immune system recognizes as non self , is recognized by a T cell, an immune response is
launched and T cells begin multiplying rapidly to fight off the infection. This rapid
multiplication creates two different types of T cells: helper and cytotoxic. The helper T cells
help to create more T cells and the cytotoxic T cells are the killers. They attack the cells with the
antigen that the body has recognized as non self. Once the non self cells are destroyed, some of
these new T cells that have been created to fight off this specific infection will stay around to
fight any future infection with the same antigen. This is called memory (Dr. T. White,
Microbiology lecture, May 2015). Dr. June and his team have based their research on this immune
response, but with an interesting twist. The research conducted by Dr. June while in the Navy
taught him plenty about the efficiency the HIV virus possesses in DNA delivery and about the
response of T cells to disease. He would use this knowledge, and the knowledge of his peers, to
perfect for the first time the procedure he would use in

Similarities And Differences Between Michelangelo And Raphael
From the late fifteenth century to the genesis of the sixteenth, a new movement influenced art in
Europe, expanding the bleak limits of past art and created some of the most memorable
masterpieces in history. The creators of these artworks during these decades of the Renaissance
include Leonardo da Vinci, MichelangeloBuonarroti, and RaphaelSanzio. Influenced and sometimes
driven competitively by each other, these artists share differences and similarities in their life, art
style and techniques, and interests.

I m saying that at the end of the summer she let the blind man run his hands over her face, said

time this officer that is his wife s first husband comes up in the story, the narrator moves on to
other subjects quickly. This reveals a jealousy in him that is not plainly written in the story. It
allows the reader to learn about the narrator as he sets up the story. Because of this set up, the
reader is able to expect and easily see the narrator s jealousy as he is later introduced to the blind
man. He also omits names. The reader never learns the names of the narrator or his wife, though
she is frequently involved in the story. This allows the reader to focus on essential characteristics
of the character. The wife is merely the wife. The blind man is blind.
Choice of point of view can change the tone and entire meaning gained from a story. The tone of
this story would have been much different if it were written from the wife s point of view. She
would not have been seen as the static nagging wife stereotype, the husband himself would have
probably be viewed as unsupportive and a slacker, and the reader would have gained a better
understanding of who this blind man was. However, for the sake of the story, the importance of the
blind man is that he is blind. This is what is important to the narrator and this is what the

A Meta-Analysis of the Impacts of Soy Milk, Skim Milk, and...
Five studies were found that coincide with the study selection criteria for on the effects of
fermented milk on cholesterol levels. Although some studies do not agree, a consensus can still be
reached. Five studies were found that agree consuming fermented milk products helps to lower
cholesterol levels. Of these studies Agerbaek et al., (1995) conducted a six week study on fifty
eight healthy, non obese males with normal cholesterollevels, all were age forty four. Participants
were randomly placed in either the fermented milk or placebo group; the placebo consisted of
milk cultured with non living bacteria and the fermented milk was fermented with E. faecium
and two strains of S. termophilus. Participants drank 200 ml per day of either fermented or
placebo milk. The diet of each individual was not altered at any time during the study. After six
weeks, total cholesterol was significantly reduced by 14.3 mg/dL while the placebo had no
significant change. LDL cholesterol levels had a 10% reduction, a 16.24 mg/dL decrease while
HDL cholesterol levels were unchanged. Agerbaek et al., (1995) determined that fermented milk
should significantly decrease total cholesterol and LDL levels in middle aged men.
A study by Anderson and Gilliland (1999) came to the conclusion that fermented milk lowered
total cholesterol levels by 2.4%, LDL by 2.6% and HDL by 3.9%. The study was conducted over a

19 Minutes, By Jodi Picoult
19 minutes is a book written by Jodi Picoult that describes a school shooting. This book was
written in a pretty unique way, because instead of having story told by sequential events from one
perspective, it is told from many perspectives, from different times, and in different orders. For
example, one moment you could be reading from the point of view of the shooter during the event,
and the next you re reading from the point of view of a student 6 months after. The author uses
different points of view and a non linear timeline to tell a unique story. Jodi Picoultuses different
points in time for each chapter, but it isn t a random order. Whenever there is a change in time, it
is because it logically follows what you just read. What ends... Show more content on

During the book, you get to see through the eyes of the shooter, the judge, the judge s daughter,
the shooter s parents, the shooter s lawyer, and the main detective on the case. I might even be
missing a few, but these viewpoints were the most used. This ties in well with my previous point
where I said the author used different points in time. Not only do you get to see different views,
but also you get to see each viewpoint at many different times. One chapter you could be reading
about what the judge was doing before her daughter was born, and the next chapter you could be
reading about what the lawyer and his family is going through near the end of the case. There
are a few characters and moments that I think showcase how well these viewpoints were done in
this book. One of them is the different viewpoints during the shooting. While the first time the
shooting is described we only see from the detective, later on we get to witness it again from
other s eyes. This line is from Patrick s view, Turning a corner, Patrick slipped on blood and
heard another gunshot, this one loud enough to ring her ears. (Picoult, 22) and this line is from
Josie s view, As the gun fires, it ripper two stripes of her skin from the base of her thumb. Her
hands jerked upwards. (Picoult, 440). These two lines are talking about the same gun shot, but
Patrick s line is from the beginning of the book, and Josie s line is from the very end. Another
part of the book that I think benefited well from different viewpoints is the relationship between
Josie and her mother, Alex. The two don t have a very deep relationship in the beginning, which
is shown by Josie many times, The last place Josie wanted to go was out to dinner with her
mother. (Picoult, 150). Josie usually tries to avoid her mother and thinks she doesn t understand
her. From Alex s view, she feels like she hasn t been a very good mother to Josie and often is

What Is Steve Prefontaine A Running Legend
Steve Prefontaine Running Legend Some People create with words or with music or with a

Its more than a race, it s a style, its doing something better than anyone else. It s being creative.
(Steve Prefontaine Quotes). Every time Prefontaine stepped on the track, his fans would just go
crazy. Pre, (as fans would call him) only had one thing on his mind, and that was to win. Some say
he s the best runner America has ever seen. Art is something that s created with imagination or skill

Runningis a form of art, and Steve Prefontaine definitely is an artist because he didn t settle for
anything less that the best and because he is a running legend. To give anything less than your

because he never settled for second or third place. He always wanted to be the best. All of his
life he was told that he was too small or not good enough. Part of why this happened was because
one of his legs was shorter than the other. As a younger child he preferred team sports like baseball

Adoption by Same-Sex Couples Essay example
Adoption by Same Sex Couples
19th Annual Robyn Rafferty Mathias Conference
I. Introduction
In recent years, there has been an increase in same sex couples applying to adopt children at both
infancy and from the foster care system. Although society s perception of a family normally
consists of a mother and father, the times are changing. According to the United States 2000
Census, this societal perception of a normal family, referred to as the nuclear family , only
represents less than 24%, of households in the U.S. The notion of the nuclear family is ever

By allowing same sex couples to adopt, children who would normally linger and age out of the
foster care system can be put into permanent and loving homes.
II. Parenting Capabilities of Same Sex Couples One of the main reasons that some individuals
feel that same sex couples should be banned from adopting children is due to the belief that they
are incapable. There are various amounts of scientific research compiled by the American Civil
Liberties Union that shows that the parenting practices of same sex couples are just as good as
those of heterosexual couples. The ACLU released a document entitled Too High a Price: The
Case Against Restricting Gay Parenting. In this document there is a detailed overview of the
scientific research done in this field. This research focuses on the psychological, emotional, social,
and cognitive developments of children raised by same sex couples, the quality of parenting of
these couples, and the sexual and gender development of the child or children in their home. In
looking at these key factors, researchers were better able to make comparisons between same sex
couples and heterosexual couples. These studies used various groups of people including single
lesbian mothers, gay fathers, heterosexual couples, and heterosexual single parents. In order to
conduct the studies, researchers used psychological tactics, which included both interviews and
intensive examinations of both the parents and children.

The Culture Of The Word Culture Essay
There are many laity use of the word culture that gets thrown around in day to day conversation
amongst our peers. Culture is used to define certain aspects of our lives and how we live on a
daily basis. There are some that believe that they do not possess a culture. There are others who
feel that we all live our own individual unique culturein our lives. However, being that culture is
such a broad subject, the only way to define it is to operationalize its context and attempt to try
and understand it based on a universal definition. Sergiovanni and Corbally s (1986) definition of
culture includes a system of values, symbols, and shared meanings in a group that includes
embodying these values, symbols, and shared meanings in ritualize practice. Using this particular
definition of culture, the small island of Okinawa is enriched with it. Their way of day to day
lifestyle, geographical terrain, as well as their militaryhistory can all be analyzed through their
culture as well as provide information in terms of our current military jargon for the benefit of the
United States Army.
Culturally, Okinawans separate themselves from the association of the Japanese culture, even
though they are still considered a territory of Japan. The differences in their landscape, their way of
life, language, and even their societal infrastructure are the basis of their adamant separation from
Japan. Its geographical complexities are also what make Okinawa unique from its neighboring

  • 2. Liberal Party In Canada The Liberal Party is the oldest and most dominant federal level political party in Canada. The party was founded on July 1st, 1867 and has since provided Canada with 10 Prime Ministers. (Clarkson McCall, 12) The party originated during the mid 19th century when the English and French colonies of Lower Canada(Quebec) and Upper Canada (Ontario) formed opposition groups. The Grits of Upper Canada lead by George Brown and the Parti Rouge (Reds) of Lower Canada. (Rayside, 2016) In the late 1850 s these two groups briefly consolidated to form a government, which ultimately failed and resulted in separation of the parties. This failure led the Parti Rouge to consider a different political stance, thus coalesce of The Grits and the Parti Rouge to form the Liberal Party of Canada in 1867. In the early years after confederation the Conservatives dominated the Canadian political scene from 1867 until 1896, with the omission of 5 years, from 1873 1878. Laurier was also able to bridge the gap between cultural and regional differences primarily over language English and French. He was able to win the election of 1896 with a platform focused on national unity and provincial rights. During the 15 years that Laurier was Prime Minister there was unexpected growth and immigration increased. Which lead to the formation of two new provinces in 1905 being Alberta and Saskatchewan. • 3. Fossil LagerstГ¤tten A Fossil LagerstГ¤tten is an undisturbed fossil accumulation in which fossils are exceptionally preserved. There are two types of fossil lagerstГ¤tten: Concentration LagerstГ¤tten (Konzentrat LagerstГ¤tten) and Conservation LagerstГ¤tten (Konservat LagerstГ¤tten). Concentration LagerstГ¤tten are deposits of an immense number of preserved fossils, whereas Conservation LagerstГ¤tten are the preservation of fossils in terms of quality rather than quantity (Nudds and Selden, 2008). There might be few fossils in the rock strata, however, the preservation of these are exemplary. There are many outcropping areas on Earth in which fossils are preserved like this. One example of a group of strata that has retained fossils in this way is the Crato Formation. Location The Crato formation, Brazil, is a geological rock formation ... The Crato Formation lithologies were most likely deposited when there was a marine transgression; which is what the Cretaceous period is renowned for (Hu et al. 2012). The build up of laminated limestones and different lithologies in the stratigraphic column could suggest that it was a lagoon depositional environment (Martill and Frey, 1998). Fossil Assemblage The most prominent fossils in the Crato Formation are the insects that are preserved. One example of an insect that has been recently found is the Araripenymphes seldeni (as seen in figure 3), an extinct species of lacewing (Myskowiak et al., 2016). The taphonomic classification of A.seldini is: Nymphidae Family Neuroptera Order, and Insecta Class (Myskowiak et al., 2016). • 4. My Personal Preference For My Research Process My personal preference for my research process begins by reading the instructions of the assignment thoroughly. This is residual effect of having been tricked once during a test in middle school. During her instructions, the teacher mentioned several times that we need to read the test instructions and all the questions thoroughly before starting. However, as I was concerned with the time allocated for the test, I skimmed through the instructions and began writing. Well, turns out it was a one of those tests that the last question instructed to just write your name in the first page and hand it in. Lesson learned, the hard way of course. Consequently, I always begin every test, project and assignment by reading all the instructions, twice, before I ever begin the task that is being asked of me. Once I have read the assignment instructions, I would search the terms listed in the question, for this portion of my approach a simple engine search would suffice. I will not to use the results of the search as a basis for my academic writing, but to simply familiarize myself with what is being ask of me. Regardless of the topic, when conducting a general search you can come across current events, that may be relevant or a commemorative event that is taking place to honor someone and their work, and this information can be later incorporated in to the essay as needed. Depending on how much time we were given for the assignment, I would plan approximately four hours a week at Scott s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Slopes Of War By. Perez In the historical fiction novel The Slopes of War by N.A. Perez, the author illustrates the gruesome battle that befell the little market town of Gettysburg during the Civil War through the various perspectives of all the people whom were immersed and affected. These people included young men fighting, generals arguing about their plans and tactics, and innocent citizens who aided causalities regardless of what color their uniform happened to be. Perspectives from both the Confederate and Union armies are offered in the text to grasp a better understanding of all the thoughts occurring throughout the entire battle, as well as before and after. Throughout the novel, Perez elucidates the emotional and physical aspects of warthe people endured, such as traumatizing, graphic images that can serve as bad omens, and loss of loved ones. Also, the book further explains what war truly signified, which was death. The positive results and overall effects of the war as described in the novel, however, somewhat outweighs the negative causes and struggles. In the book Crispin written by Avi, there is a particular quote in the novel on the first page in which reads, In the midst of life comes death, in the midst of death comes life. • 7. Mother Daughter Conflict In Everyday Use By Alice Walker In Alice Walker s short story, Everyday Use , the mother daughter conflict theme is portrayed in the entire story. The oldest daughter Dee constantly believes that she is better than then everyone else in the family. This has caused a family feud about who gets the quilt. The quilt was very cherished because it was a familyheirloom. Dee has always had a lot of power over her family and she soon finds out that it is going to end soon. The biggest problem lies between Mama and Dee. This is clearly illustrated by Dee s selfish behavior, high standards, and her her ignorance about her family s heritage. Dee s superiority stems from the fact that she sets high standards for Mama, which in turn causes Mama to feel inferior to Dee. Dee demands Mama to act a certain way, which is reminiscent of a television show. On TV mother and child embrace and smile in each other s faces. Sometimes the mother and father weep, the child wraps them in her arms and leans across the table and tell how she would have made it without her help (paragraph 3). This description is the polar oppositeness of how Dee acts towards her mother; Mama is well aware of the fact that her own daughter will never embrace her like the people in the TV shows. Another major flaw of Dee s is that she acts ashamed of both Mama and her family s background. Dee s impossibly high standards drive the ones who should be closest to her, her family, away. She is constantly nagging and is persistent at finding things she thinks need to be fixed, even going so far as being hypocritical about these various fixings. Mama says she pins on my dress a large orchid, even though she has told me once that she thinks orchids are tacky flowers (paragraph 4). Dee needs everything to be luxurious and elegant in her life. But even the first glimpse of leg out of the car tells me it is Dee. Her feet were always near looking, as if God himself had shaped them with a certain style (paragraph 19). As seen through this excerpt, Mama puts Dee on a high pedestal and even relates her daughters foot to God. Dee s selfishnessis also portrayed through her verbal skills. She is often manipulating others through her speech and can talk her way through just about anything. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction The Protestant Reformation of the Catholic Church devastated the religious unity of Christian Europe, resulting in a great deal of antagonism, which in turn led to the persecutions, denial of civil rights, expulsion, and ultimately the torture and death of many men, women and children. The ongoing conflict was not consigned to one distinct European nation, but was experienced in every European nation that the Catholic Church ruled and reigned. There was no worldview in Europe at that time that allowed for the religious differences of men to coexist peaceably. As quoted by McGrath in his book, French Protestantism to the Present Day. Francis I, retaliated harshly and swiftly possibly, because of the recent treaty that he had signed with Spain to end the Thirty Year War. Francis, possible to ensure his loyalty toward the Pope and the treaty arrested and executed the Protestants whom were responsible. Calvin like many other fearing for their safety left France, Calvin choosing to escape to Switzerland. Reforming Christianity When Calvin arrived in Geneva, William Farel saw in Calvin the leader that Geneva needed and he urged the young scholar to go no farther but to stay in the city and help establish the work there (Shelley, 2008, 256) . Calvin s patronage from Geneva helped with the growth and development of the French Protestant movement in the 1550s. Calvin trained French Protestant pastors at the Geneva Academy, and helped to smuggle them back into France to establish and develop local congregations. The main reason for this is that if you have a readership consisting of a specific class or type of people eg. Middle class business men. Then advertisers who want to appeal to that specific audience will use that paper for their advert and the paper can obtain large profits from adverts and the advertisers can sell lots of products. It is also a WOB (white on black) which is only used when it is a serious and important issue. It uses the word Mutiny which adds lots of stress to the headline as it is a powerful word that has a dramatic. The use of Blair Mutiny is clever as it mimics The Cain Mutiny which was when the crew of Cain s ship mutinied, just like now as Blair s crew , the cabinet are revolting. The Independents headline of Short faces the sack over act of treachery is much less in your face as it is printed in a much smaller print than the Mail s and also it isn t in bold. Unlike the Mail the independent haven t used WOB (white on black) which gives it a lower profile. The use of the word treachery gives it more drama and emphasis. Journey Of A Woman From All India Women s Conference Journey of a woman from All India Women s Conference to International Council of Women The difference between a man and woman arises when they are socially labeled as male and female ,thereby attaching characteristics of masculine and feminine to it.As Simone de Beauvoir says, One is not born but rather becomes a woman. Women are always put at the lower level on the table of social, political or economic hierarchy. So the fatherhood is a sociological fiction and motherhood is just a biological fact. Some of the feminists have argued that the word woman itself includes the word man which deprives the women to have their own identities exclusive of men. Also Maya Angelou has quoted, How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she roes! Like all other social groups, women have also organized themselves within groups equipped with their agenda and ideologies in order to upgrade their position in all aspects of life.Though their have been many instances where individual groups could not bring about a change and the strong structure of patriarchy crushed them in order to make it adjustable to the prevalent arrangements. It is in the modern times that provided the space for fee play of women protest aligning with other groups to alternate the arrangements. This flame of oppression turned into a fire when different groups of women from different parts of the world protest against it.When there was a whole gamut of pressure from different women groups, the ... Vertical integration is when a company, e.g. Warner Bros oversees the planning and also the creation of a specific product. • 17. The Theory Of Government Spending And Fiscal Policy The ISLM model uses many of the same ideas that Keynes did to show change in output in equilibrium. Using ISLM, both monetary and fiscal policy can be effective, depending on the slopes of both IS and LM curves. As the General Theory suggests, government spending and fiscal policy can be very effective when the IS schedule is steep and the LM curve is flat. When this happens, there is a low interest elasticity of investment, which leads to less crowding out because investment is not very sensitive to changes in interest rates. Monetarist school of thought preserves Keynes idea that there is a natural rate of unemployment in the long run. In the short run they both believe that unemployment rate can go below the natural rate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Keynes develop developed a basic theory of investment, crediting investment with being the driving variable that operates through a multiplier to establish total income (Wray, 2015, p. 4) Minsky looks to Keynes investment theory of the business cycle and as an extension, adds his financial theory of investment that allowed him to analyze the capital economy that exists today. Minsky thought that investment finance plays a large role in the economy and that it cannot be overlooked. He believes that government intervention is absolutely essential, as can be seen throughout history. Before Big Government and Big Banks, recessions in the economy were severe, frequent, and lengthy. Upon their introduction recession have become milder and less frequent. Central banks act as a lender of last resort. Policies were introduced to act as stabilizers and kept the economy from ever getting back to the point where it was during the great depression. (Rezende, 2015) In his financial instability hypothesis, Minsky argues that when the economy appears to be stable, expectations go up and there is increased optimism, which eventually leads to instability. Essentially, stability in the economy leads to instability. This occurs because with this increase in optimism, people s behaviors change and create financial bubbles, which ... Science I Term Paper The research paper that this term paper is based on is Interactions Among Plant Transcription Factors Regulating Expression of Stress responsive Genes, Sony Malhotra and R. Sowdhamini, National Center for Biological Sciences, June 2014, Bioinformatics and Biology Insights. Abstract: Plants are known to respond to abiotic stress by up or down regulating their genes. This is done by activating transcription factors. It is known that these transcription factors, though they have DNA binding domains, interact amongst each other for the regulation of gene production. In order to find out which transcription factors interact and how, the research uses genetic and molecular structure information available in databases and computationally analyses the data. The factors that lead to the conclusion of interaction between transcription factors includes spatial proximity and possible interaction poses. Molecular docking is used to predict the interaction poses and DockScore is a scoring system used to rank the interaction poses. Introduction: Plants are immobile and therefore need mechanisms to counteract stresses that they face from their environment. Cold, high light, drought, salinity, abscisic acid, rehydration and combination of stresses like cold drought salt stress are common abiotic stresses that plants encounter. In order to deal with these stresses, plants either up regulate or down regulate their genes; that is, they increase the production of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first president of the organization, pianist Richard Abrams, gathered musicians such as Anthony Braxton, and Lester Bowie to produce work that focused on the qualities of sound as opposed to conventional delineations of harmony, melody, and rhythm (358). This unique evolution commenced with the United States (US) and the Union of Soviet Socialists Republics (USSR) as world powers as a result of their distinctive roles in ending World War II. Their contradicting ideologies as to the basis of this new evolution sparked a cold war bringing fear and great concerns to the masses. Inspite of the intensity of this war, the UN assumed its responsibilities in ensuring peace and encouraging both nations to peacefully sort out their differences. This consequently recorded the first involvement of the UN in the world superpowers affairs. Currently, the evolution transits into new superpowers; the United Statesan established power and China a rising power. In part two of the novel, Morrison vocalizes these unspoken thoughts through fragmented internal monologue and stream of consciousness, stylized to represent the characters state of being. This is when the narrative moves closer to describing the core event, and thus becomes more fragmented as it is told by those closely affected. This implies that approaching memory causes a rupture with reality; an uncontrollable deconstruction of the self. This first introduces Sethe, who declares Beloved, she my daughter. Skeletal Muscle Analysis The solid framework is the body s system of tissues that controls development both of the body and inside it, (for example, the heart s pumping activity and the development of nourishment through the gut). Development is created through the constriction and unwinding of particular muscles. The muscles of the body are isolated into two primary classes: skeletal (willful) and smooth (automatic). Skeletal muscles are connected to the skeleton and move different parts of the body. They are called willful on the grounds that an individual controls their utilization, for example, in the flexing of an arm or the raising of a foot. Parker wants no association with religion and refused to reveal his name unless it is mandatory or has no control over the matter. • 43. Emphasizing The True Meaning Of Poems By Andrew Marvell... Kinsey Jordan Mrs. Russler English Honors I February 4, 2015 Emphasizing the True Meaning of Poems Around the seventeenth century the poets Andrew Marvell and John Donne expressed their feelings through poetry. Both John Donne, born in 1572 and Andrew Marvell, born in 1621 in England, are known for their ideas of metaphysical poetry. Metaphysical poetry is a persuasive poem that uses a conceit. It focuses on imagery, paradoxes, arguments, philosophy and religion. Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress and John Donne s A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning, focus on the theme of love, which was trending at that time. Although both poems justify the importance and essence of love, the tone differs in each poem making them distant from each other. The figurative language also makes the two poems different. However, they both focus on the idea of Carpe Diem, enjoying the moment and not worrying about the future. Through comparing these poems, the differences and similarities result in the true understanding and effectiveness of the poems. In To His Coy Mistress, Andrew Marvell does not perceive true, fervent love, but rather that time and beauty will not last. The tone of this poem is sad, but the author seems to make it happier. There is an example shown in the first stanza; Had we but world enough and time...we would sit down, and think which way to walk, and pass our long love s day. The Types Of Parliamentary Democracies The two types of Parliamentary democracies are direct democracy, also known as consociational or consensus democracy, and representative democracy, otherwise called majoritarian democracy (Dickovick 118 120). A consensus democracy is founded on the principle that the citizens govern directly and that power is distributed between the executive and legislative branches to prevent and limit one branch from gaining too much power. An example of a consensus democracyis Switzerland, as it promotes consensus of the people, and it exhibits the factors necessary for a direct democracy. Alternatively, a majoritarian democracy is based on the principle of majority rules, and that power is concentrated and centralized. It s not just a matter of a single country, but it s a problem of the whole human race. Humanity is facing the risk of extinction. The impact of environmental pollution leads to climate change and natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes. Those disasters are caused by the impact of humans to nature, such as deforestation, ecological imbalance, and use of chemicals. Gas emissions from industries in urban areas are also a big factor that causes global warming. Earth s temperature has been increasing each year. Glaciers melting are one of the early signs of global warming. If more glaciers melt, the sea level will increase which may cause flooding in certain areas. Global dimming is even more harmful to humans than global warming. Global dimming is also caused by humans because of the air pollution caused by burning coal, oil, and wood, which releases carbon dioxideto the earth s atmosphere. Air pollution can cause all kinds of illnesses, such as lung cancer, heart diseases, and asthma. Climate change is impactful worldwide. Even though some people say that climate change happens naturally, I believe it is caused by the impact of human activity. It is clear to see how the impact of humans affects the climate. To be able to recognize a self cell from a non self cell, T cells have receptors on their surfaces that recognize antigens on the surfaces of other cells. When one of these antigens, or parts of the disease that the immune system recognizes as non self , is recognized by a T cell, an immune response is launched and T cells begin multiplying rapidly to fight off the infection. This rapid multiplication creates two different types of T cells: helper and cytotoxic. The helper T cells help to create more T cells and the cytotoxic T cells are the killers. For example, one moment you could be reading from the point of view of the shooter during the event, and the next you re reading from the point of view of a student 6 months after. Not only do you get to see different views, but also you get to see each viewpoint at many different times. One chapter you could be reading about what the judge was doing before her daughter was born, and the next chapter you could be reading about what the lawyer and his family is going through near the end of the case. There are a few characters and moments that I think showcase how well these viewpoints were done in this book. One of them is the different viewpoints during the shooting. While the first time the shooting is described we only see from the detective, later on we get to witness it again from other s eyes. This line is from Patrick s view, Turning a corner, Patrick slipped on blood and heard another gunshot, this one loud enough to ring her ears. These two lines are talking about the same gun shot, but Patrick s line is from the beginning of the book, and Josie s line is from the very end. Another part of the book that I think benefited well from different viewpoints is the relationship between Josie and her mother, Alex. The two don t have a very deep relationship in the beginning, which is shown by Josie many times, The last place Josie wanted to go was out to dinner with her mother. (Picoult, 150).
