If a blog post goes out and no one tweets it, does it make a sound?
We’ve reached an era on the internet where people are feeling that need to connect to others – there’s a reason why facebook is so freaking huge, why social media sites keep popping up all over the place – I can tell you from my own personal experience that I got into this world of digital marketing for the simple fact that I felt completely isolated as a new mom and a new immigrant.
So what does this mean? It means that there’s a need for community – and even when it comes to online promotion, to online markeing, even when it’s marketing something that seems SOOOO far removed from a community, we have to see this thing (whether it’s a company or an app or whatever) as a fundamental building block of a community and use that to launch a story around it.
But in order to do that, you need a website – think of that as your community center, your home. The axis point from which all things connect. So, you have to build it: Register a domain – hook it up with social media icons so that people can find you.
And they have to be visible, and pretty and reflect your brand image.
So, you’ve got your website and al your pretty social media icons, but in order to really establish an online presnece and build a community around this, you need a blog. Even if you’re marketing the most obscure thing in the whole entire world, find a way to create a story around it.
And find a blogger – now, ok, so maybe you love wirting – maybe you’re good at it – and after all, who knows your app or whatever you’re trying to market better than you? And sure, you can write about it, but sometimes ousourcing to someone who does this professionally is important. Because bloggers are theiw on special breed.
And sure, while narcissism can be part of the blogger DNA, bloggers are also people who WANT to be read, who have it in their creative makeup to be heard because after all:
Right?
So while technology is a big part of the blogosphere, if you want to hit a wider user base, then you gotta figure out ways to push your app in other blogs.
In other words, do not just focus on technology stuff – push to different sites that are somehow involved with your app.
Time your posts differently -
You MUST read comments and engage –
If an app is created and no one writes about it or talks about it, does it make a sound?
Now, how do you promote your app or the blogs around your app? How do you build an online community around your app?
In other words, speak in the language of your target audience. Not just their native language, but their actual interest language.

Identify: Who’s your target audience?
Remember: Timezones. posting.
Hedge your bets: Post more than once.

So, find platforms to host your own blog.
The Times of Israel, launched in February 2012, has quickly become one of the major players covering Israel and The Middle East in English with 2 million monthly unique users. The marketing budget? Zero! One of the main reasons for this success is the creation of a thriving blog platform, that includes today more than 1,000 bloggers. The bloggers create articles that compete in a "marketplace of ideas" and are organically exposed throughout the website. Furthermore - they market their content and by doing so they market the whole website. 7:27 PM
