5 things learnt whilst doing app
design

Key Points-Use a word of symbol to give the person and idea of what your app is for
-Use the right style of image (e.g fast car for driving game, man with gun for
shooting game etc.)
-Make sure the background and foreground are easy to be able to tell apart
-Use different colours (if applicable) to show variety and to look interesting
-If applicable, have a logo that is clear and gives the right impression so that
Socialisers aren’t included because we think that
there aren’t really any element of social
interaction with the game and there is no way
to post any information on social networking
sites.

Action Plan
I'm planning to use the Title as Text logo and
changing the gradient background colour to
something more interesting but keeping it as a
gradient.
At the moment, other than the flying saucer,
everything seems a little simple.
I’m also considering removing the flying saucer.
App Age Rating
9+. This rating may include cartoon violence and/or mild suggestive, horror or fear-
themed content not suitable for very young children. Think of it like a PG movie.
Drugs
References to illegal drugs or drug misuse must be innocuous or carry a suitable anti-
drug message.
Imitable behaviour
No detail of potentially dangerous behaviour which young children are likely to
copy, if that behaviour is presented as safe or fun. No glamorisation of realistic or
easily accessible weapons such as knives. No focus on anti-social behaviour which
young children are likely to copy.
Language
Mild bad language only. Aggressive or very frequent use of mild bad language may
result in a work being passed at a higher category.
Nudity
There may be nudity with no sexual context.
Sex
Sexual activity may be implied, but should be discreet and infrequent. Mild sex
references and innuendo only.
Threat
Frightening sequences or situations where characters are in danger should not be
prolonged or intense. Fantasy settings may be a mitigating factor.
Violence
Violence will usually be mild. However there may be moderate violence, without
detail, if justified by its context (for example, history, comedy or fantasy).
We have decided that First Impact
will be rated 9+.

It does not include any drug use, references or suggested behaviour.

In my original idea I had a flying saucer over
the top of the “T” is “FIRST” which I liked
but when I wanted to put a stroke round
the words as well as the flying saucer it just
didn’t look as good so I decided to remove
it and have a simper look
I tried it both with the text together in the
middle and also apart from each other to see
if moving the text could improve the icon but
I don’t think it did.

I changed the gradient to make it look better., it now
has a more subtle look. I removed the flying saucer.
I also added an outline round the text.
I changed the gradient again to see if I could improve
the logo but I think it looks worse. I also removed the
yellow within the logo.
I made a circular part of the image brighter, I also
changed the logo

Marketing Calendar
Twitter Campaign
The twitter campaign starts on the 29th of August as it is
between Tokyo Game Show and EGX.
We will have a twitter account posting updates before the
official release and through the marketing campaign period.
Frequency of retweets
These charts from searchenginewatch.com show the frequency
of tweets throughout the week as well as what time of day
the most tweets are posted.
Best period for retweets
These charts from searchenginewatch.com show the days of
the week as well as the time of day when the most retweets
occur. This can help us when marketing First Impact on
twitter.
Posters
The posters will be released on the 11th of September to
keep the excitement going throughout the twitter campaign
leading up to the official release.
Game Release
According to appromoter.com we should avoid releasing the
game around public holidays because there will be price drops
of other AAA games and ours won’t be noticed as much.
The game will be released on the 25th of September, the
first day of EGX.This will be a thursday, the day the App Store
cycles it’s editorials around.
Clothing Released
The clothing will be released the same day as the game is
released to take advantage of the time we have so that people
that enjoy the game and/or the fans of the game can buy the
merchandise from day 1.
GameVouchers
Game vouchers are released on the 11th of October, the
first day of Play Expo, to keep the excitement going after the
release.

  • 8. Action Plan I'm planning to use the Title as Text logo and changing the gradient background colour to something more interesting but keeping it as a gradient. At the moment, other than the flying saucer, everything seems a little simple. I’m also considering removing the flying saucer.
  • 9. App Age Rating 9+. This rating may include cartoon violence and/or mild suggestive, horror or fear- themed content not suitable for very young children. Think of it like a PG movie. Drugs References to illegal drugs or drug misuse must be innocuous or carry a suitable anti- drug message. Imitable behaviour No detail of potentially dangerous behaviour which young children are likely to copy, if that behaviour is presented as safe or fun. No glamorisation of realistic or easily accessible weapons such as knives. No focus on anti-social behaviour which young children are likely to copy. Language Mild bad language only. Aggressive or very frequent use of mild bad language may result in a work being passed at a higher category. Nudity There may be nudity with no sexual context. Sex Sexual activity may be implied, but should be discreet and infrequent. Mild sex references and innuendo only. Threat Frightening sequences or situations where characters are in danger should not be prolonged or intense. Fantasy settings may be a mitigating factor. Violence Violence will usually be mild. However there may be moderate violence, without detail, if justified by its context (for example, history, comedy or fantasy). We have decided that First Impact will be rated 9+. Drug It does not include any drug use, references or suggested behaviour. Imitable Behaviour No imitable behaviour present Nudity All characters fully clothed Sex No sex or sexual references Threat Low level threat Violence Low level violence

In my original idea I had a flying saucer over the top of the “T” is “FIRST” which I liked but when I wanted to put a stroke round the words as well as the flying saucer it just didn’t look as good so I decided to remove it and have a simper look I tried it both with the text together in the middle and also apart from each other to see if moving the text could improve the icon but I don’t think it did.   • 11. APP LOGO I changed the gradient to make it look better., it now has a more subtle look. I removed the flying saucer. I also added an outline round the text. I changed the gradient again to see if I could improve the logo but I think it looks worse. I also removed the yellow within the logo. I made a circular part of the image brighter, I also changed the logo

  • 19. Poster FINAL “Available NOW...” has been moved to the top and the First Impact logo has been changed to a different font, colour and style
  • 22. Draft 2 The feedback I received was mostly positive, but I was told that the First Impact logo should be lower so I changed that. CLOTHING DESIGNS It was suggested that I put something on the back so I inserted the group logo
  • 24. Final CLOTHING DESIGNS As per suggestion I moved the First Impact logo up I removed part of Jeremy’s body and moved the G2P logo down
  • 27. Twitter Campaign The twitter campaign starts on the 29th of August as it is between Tokyo Game Show and EGX. We will have a twitter account posting updates before the official release and through the marketing campaign period.
  • 28. Frequency of retweets These charts from searchenginewatch.com show the frequency of tweets throughout the week as well as what time of day the most tweets are posted.
  • 29. Best period for retweets These charts from searchenginewatch.com show the days of the week as well as the time of day when the most retweets occur. This can help us when marketing First Impact on twitter.
  • 30. Posters The posters will be released on the 11th of September to keep the excitement going throughout the twitter campaign leading up to the official release.
  • 31. Game Release According to appromoter.com we should avoid releasing the game around public holidays because there will be price drops of other AAA games and ours won’t be noticed as much. The game will be released on the 25th of September, the first day of EGX.This will be a thursday, the day the App Store cycles it’s editorials around.
  • 32. Clothing Released The clothing will be released the same day as the game is released to take advantage of the time we have so that people that enjoy the game and/or the fans of the game can buy the merchandise from day 1.
  • 33. GameVouchers Game vouchers are released on the 11th of October, the first day of Play Expo, to keep the excitement going after the release.
