Marine Transmission
• The transmission system on a ship transmits
power from the engine to the propeller. It is
made up of shafts, bearings, and finally the
propeller itself.
• The thrust from the propeller is transferred to the
ship through the transmission system.

• Direct transmission usually using diesel engine
as prime mover on ship. Types of diesel engine:
1. Low speed (60-150 RPM)
2. Medium speed (450-800 RPM)
3. High speed (1000-3000 RPM)
• The low speed diesel engine is reasonable for
marine direct transmission.
