Margaret Mahy was a New Zealand author born in 1936 who wrote over 120 books translated into 15 languages. She was inspired to write by her father's storytelling and wrote her first book at age 7. Before becoming an author, she worked as a librarian and received a BA from Auckland University. Her hobbies included reading, swimming, and spending time with her pets.
