Roald Dahl was a British writer who wrote popular children's books and books for adults. He was also a screenwriter. He was born in Wales but had Norwegian parents. After attending boarding school, he worked for Shell Oil in Africa. During World War II, he was a pilot and spy for Britain. After the war, he moved to the US and married actress Patricia Neal, with whom he had five children. He later divorced Neal and remarried. Dahl wrote over 20 books for children as well as 50 stories for adults, drawing from his own life experiences. He died in 1990 at age 74 of a blood disease.
