With relentless prioritization, requirements revisions, and status reporting, Product Managers are often overwhelmed. It was no different at Square, but one product team decided to try something different. Ronald Lai, ex Product Manager at Square, will discuss how his team used JIRA Software and Confluence to automate workflows to replace their most time-consuming tasks and focused on creating product value.

This will be presented at the Optimizely's San Francisco User Group session on Oct 4th. As with any program, an A/B Testing Practice also follows a specific maturity curve. Since it is much more complex and spans across various domains and business units, it begins with a "Sell" phase focused on getting buy-in from various stakeholders but with a specific focus on Engineering & QA, followed by "Scale" phase with focus on building team, efficiency and program and then on to "Expand" phase focused on wider scope/complex tests and strengthen the platform, over to the "Deepen" phase where the focus is to ingrain testing within the company's DNA, i.e., within the backend/algorithms, cross pollinate learning and testing across various business units. The final phase is the "Sustain" phase where Algorithmic Test Management takes over Testing, and Testing is productized as a Value Add service for monetization and brand captial creation. We will walk the audience through our own journey so far along the maturity curve, the lessons learnt along the way, the challenges and what worked for us. The session will be rounded up with a working session with the audience on their own journey, lessons and advice for others.

Data access can bottleneck end-to-end machine learning pipelines as training data volume grows and when large model files are more commonly used for serving. For instance, data loading can constitute nearly 80% of the total model training time, resulting in less than 30% GPU utilization. Also, loading large model files for deployment to production can be slow because of slow network or storage read operations. These challenges are prevalent when using popular frameworks like PyTorch, Ray, or HuggingFace, paired with cloud object storage solutions like S3 or GCS, or downloading models from the HuggingFace model hub. In this presentation, Lu and Siyuan will offer comprehensive insights into improving speed and GPU utilization for model training and serving. NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?

In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.
