What does it take to get an application into production? Many processes, tools and automation surround that application to deliver it to the customer. As it becomes more common for development teams to autonomously deliver and run their software, the focus of the traditional operational teams shifts towards an as-a-service mindset. But how is such a team positioned within the company? And is Platform Engineering any different from Software Engineering?
In this talk I’ll share my experiences as a platform engineer and explain why I believe that every company should be conscious about why and how to setup this responsibility. I’ll also discuss the biggest challenges surrounding it - and how to tackle them.
A high level introduction to DevOps. Explains what it is, how popular DevOps has become, why DevOps is popular, how DevOps differs from traditional approaches and some next steps to implementation.

DevOps: A Culture Transformation, More than TechnologyCA Technologies
DevOps is not a new technology or a product. It's an approach or culture of SW development that seeks stability and performance at the same time that it speeds software deliveries to the business. We will discuss this cultural shift where development teams have to accept the feedback of operations teams and the operations team should be ready to accept frequent updates to the SW that it's running.

Why Everyone Needs DevOps Now: 15 Year Study Of High Performing Technology OrgsGene Kim
This presentation describes my interpretation of the Why and How of DevOps, and the key findings from my 15 year study of high-performing IT organizations, and how they simultaneously deliver stellar service levels and rapid implementation of new features into the production environment.
Organizations employing DevOps practices such as Google, Amazon, Facebook, Etsy and Twitter are routinely deploying code into production hundreds, or even thousands, of times per day, while providing world-class availability, reliability and security. In contrast, most organizations struggle to do releases more every nine months.
He will present how these high-performing organizations achieve this fast flow of work through Product Management and Development, through QA and Infosec, and into IT Operations. By doing so, other organizations can now replicate the extraordinary culture and outcomes enabling their organization to win in the marketplace.

How to Improve Clinical Programs by Breaking the Cycle of Waste in HealthcareHealth Catalyst
To succeed with value-based care, health systems must demonstrate to CMS they operate more effectively, efficiently, and safely. This requires organizations to identify and improve three types of waste commonly found in clinical programs: ordering waste, workflow and operational variations waste, and defect waste. Finding these areas, however, requires three critical solutions: an EDW, a KPA Application, and organizational readiness assessments.
Rising Healthcare Costs: Why We Have to ChangeHealth Catalyst
With rising healthcare costs, we hear so often about rate pressures on hospitals and the risk these pressures pose for their future. With healthcare reform, the burden of rising healthcare costs is shifting from payers to providers. Hospitals need to move toward value-based reimbursement models or they will face a -15.8 operating margin by 2021.Over the last 15 years premiums and employee contributions for an average family with health insurance sponsored by an employer have risen 167%. Along with these facts, government payers are reimbursing at lower levels becoming a negative margin for hospitals. These changes are not necessarily easy and can seem overwhelming. The question is whether your hospital will be a pioneer on the trail or will delay until it’s too late. The best way to get started is to understand exactly where you are today—your current cost structure and how each area of your organization is performing in terms of quality and cost, using an EDW.
Data Driven Healthcare That Work: A Physician Group PerspectiveHealth Catalyst
Crystal Run Healthcare shares their story about using proven strategies to care for patients in an accountable care model by using data to drive those strategies. Gregory A. Spencer, MD, FACP, CMO, and CMIO at Crystal Run Healthcare discusses why they moved towards analytics and data warehousing as well as the 6 requirements their health system had as they searched for a partner: 1) The solution needed to hit the ground running. 2) The solution needed to provide quick, actionable data. 3) There needed to be a library of analytical applications. 4) The healthcare data model needed to be able to evolve. 5) They needed to be taught how to fish for the data. 6) A long-term relationship with the vendor was important
See how Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a wide range of increasingly sophisticated roles in creating better customer interactions at the user interface (UI) in trend 1 of Tech Vision 2017.
Why Process Measures Are Often More Important Than Outcome Measures in Health...Health Catalyst
The healthcare industry is currently obsessed with outcome measures — and for good reason. But tracking outcome measures alone is insufficient to reach the goals of better quality and reduced costs. Instead, health systems must get more granular with their data by tracking process measures. Process measures make it possible to identify the root cause of a health system’s failures. They’re the checklists of systematically guaranteeing that the right care will be delivered to every patient, every time. By using these checklists, organizations will be able to improve quality and cost by reducing the amount of variation in care delivery.
The delivery of core business processes as-a-service is more than just promise – it’s here and now, and we see five accelerating forces behind it.
As-a-Service offers agility and speed to business leaders seeking to compete and get ahead of fast-moving customer demands. Take a deeper look at five factors driving the adoption of as-a-Service.

Is That Data Valid? Getting Accurate Financial Data in HealthcareHealth Catalyst
A consolidated EDW is not a replacement or threat to the individual financial systems and reporting tools employed for general ledger, billing, payroll, or supply management. On the contrary, each of those systems is designed with sophisticated functionality that drives organizational efficiency. But alone, these systems realize only a portion of their true return on investment for the enterprise. As a consolidated data resource, these systems provide untold potential to address the underlying challenges to efficient, cost-effective health care.
Why Precise, Tailored Patient Registries Lead to Cost-Effective Care Manageme...Health Catalyst
Early this year, CMS began a per member per month reimbursement for Medicare beneficiaries with two or more chronic conditions. It immediately validated the need for care management programs. Three models are used to measure the savings of an effective care management program:
Historical or intent-to-treat design
Matching comparison design
Randomized control design
All three place a heavy reliance on data and precise, tailored patient registries. Reliable patient registries are one of the most valuable tools in the care management toolbox. And the means to that reliability is an enterprise data warehouse, which essentially gives program managers an all-access pass to stratifying patient risk and leads to a more successful population health initiative.
Three Approaches to Predictive Analytics in HealthcareHealth Catalyst
Predictive analytics in healthcare must be timely, role-specific, and actionable to be successful. There are also three common types of healthcare predictive analytics: Risk scores (risk stratification using CMS-HCC or other models), What-if scenarios (simulations of specific outcomes given a certain combination of events, and Geo-spatial analytics (mapping a geographical location’s patient disease burden). The common thread in all of these is the element of action, or specifically, the intervention that really matters in healthcare predictive analytics.
Are you ready to shift to continuous delivery? DevOps, a leading software engineering innovation, makes this shift possible by bringing business, development and operation teams together to streamline IT and applying more automated processes.
The idea behind DevOps is to demolish the wall between development and operations, and encourage more collaboration and accountability between both groups so that everyone feels responsible for the code no matter where it is in the software development lifecycle. For better understanding of DevOps, we have answered the 5Ws of DevOps.
Next Generation IT Delivery - What it means to deliver atthe speed of the Dig...Mirco Hering
We live in the Digital Age and IT delivery needs to get faster and faster...I presented this point of view at the Accenture Test Symposium in Australia in 2015.
Software development (Dev) and IT operations (Ops) are the roots of the term "DevOps" (Ops). The term refers to a culture change that will enable the continuous delivery of high-quality software and reduce the development cycle. It is primarily distinguished by shared ownership, automated workflow, and quick feedback principles. As a result, all phases of the software development cycle, not just a few, must be understood by the team members.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
