Monitoring and Controlling are processes needed to track, review, and regulate the progress and performance of the project. It also identifies any areas where changes to the project management method are required and initiates the required changes.
Our CPM guide includes everything you need to get started in the Critical Path Method - with step-by-step examples, solutions, as well as schedules to help get your next project done faster and easier. The Critical Path Method (CPM) is a simple but powerful technique for analyzing, planning, and scheduling large, complex projects. It is used to determine a project’s critical path—the longest sequence of tasks that must be finished for the entire project to be complete.
CPM, also known as Critical Path Analysis (CPA), identifies dependencies between tasks, and shows which tasks are critical to a project. The Critical Path Method (CPM) is one of the most important concepts in project management, and certainly among the most enduring. But what is the Critical Path Method, exactly? This beginner-friendly guide will help you understand the Critical Path Method and apply it in your projects.
Early iterations of the Critical Path Method can be traced all the way back to the Manhattan Project in the early 1940s. Given the ambition, scale, and importance of this world-altering project, scientists - and the managers behind them - developed a number of techniques to make sure that the project delivered results on time. For a project management technique, the Critical Path Method has quite an illustrious history. One of these techniques was to map out the most important tasks in any project and use that to estimate the project completion date.
The Critical Path Method in project management is a cornerstone of project planning even to this day. How long a project takes often depends on the most important tasks that constitute it.

When you’re acquiring a company or building a management team, assessing skilled managers effectively can lead to improved ROI. Private equity investors can do more to achieve sustained success by making the process as systematic, rigorous, and efficient as possible. Having a system in place to guide judgments about management talent can add value.
Adding velocity and alignment to your leadership development efforts. Too much of leadership effort is about throwing seeds and hoping that a strong plant will grow. We dont need one plant. We need many plants
Having been performing executive search within our core sectors for more than 20 years, we have found that there are drastic variances in what organizations expect from using a search firm. We developed our eBook to act as a resource for hiring executives in understanding how to identify specialized search firms, qualify them, and work with them throughout the various stages of the search process to maximize ROI. We also illustrate the difference between retained and contingency search firms, and how to determine which type fits your human capital needs.

David F. Larcker and Brian Tayan, April 21, 2020, Stanford Closer Look Series
Little is known about the process by which pre-IPO companies select independent, outside board members—directors unaffiliated with the company or its investors. Private companies are not required to disclose their selection criteria or process, and are not required to satisfy the regulatory requirements for board members set out by public listing exchanges. In this Closer Look, we look at when, why, and how private companies add their first independent, outside director to the board.
We ask:
• Why do pre-IPO companies rely on very different criteria and processes to recruit outside directors than public companies do?
• What does this teach us about governance quality?
• How important are industry knowledge and managerial experience to board oversight?
• How important are independence and monitoring?
• Does a tradeoff exist between engagement and fit on the one hand and independence on the other?

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?
Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.

SOCRadar Research Team: Latest Activities of IntelBrokerSOCRadar
The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) has suffered an alleged data breach after a notorious threat actor claimed to have exfiltrated data from its systems. Infamous data leaker IntelBroker posted on the even more infamous BreachForums hacking forum, saying that Europol suffered a data breach this month.
The alleged breach affected Europol agencies CCSE, EC3, Europol Platform for Experts, Law Enforcement Forum, and SIRIUS. Infiltration of these entities can disrupt ongoing investigations and compromise sensitive intelligence shared among international law enforcement agencies.
However, this is neither the first nor the last activity of IntekBroker. We have compiled for you what happened in the last few days. To track such hacker activities on dark web sources like hacker forums, private Telegram channels, and other hidden platforms where cyber threats often originate, you can check SOCRadar’s Dark Web News.

Globus Compute wth IRI Workflows - GlobusWorld 2024Globus
As part of the DOE Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) program, NERSC at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and ALCF at Argonne National Lab are working closely with General Atomics on accelerating the computing requirements of the DIII-D experiment. As part of the work the team is investigating ways to speedup the time to solution for many different parts of the DIII-D workflow including how they run jobs on HPC systems. One of these routes is looking at Globus Compute as a way to replace the current method for managing tasks and we describe a brief proof of concept showing how Globus Compute could help to schedule jobs and be a tool to connect compute at different facilities.

2. Managing people and organizing teams
Introduction:
What is management?
How to manage the people?
How to organize the team?
What is the importance of managing people and
organizing team?
4/25/2018
3. Selecting the right people for the job:
Create a job specification
Create a job holder profile
obtain applicants
Examine CVs
Interviews etc
4/25/2018
4. Create a job specification
Advice is needed, as there will be legal implication in an
official document. However, formally or informally, the
requirements of the job should be documented and agreed.
4/25/2018
5. Create a job holder profile
Using the job specification, a profile of the person needed to
carry out the job is constructed. The qualities, qualifications,
education and experience required would be listed.
4/25/2018
6. Obtain Applicants
Typically ,an advertisement would be placed , either within
the organization or outside in the trade or local press. The
job holder profile would be examined carefully to identify the
medium most likely to reach the largest number of potential
applicants at least cost.
4/25/2018
7. Examine CVs
These should be read carefully and compared to the job
holder profile -nothing is more annoying for all concerned
than when people have CVs which clearly indicate that they
are not eligible for the job and yet they are called for
interviews.
4/25/2018
8. Interviews
A number of different selection techniques can be tried ,
including a tests. Personality tests, and the examination of
samples of previous work. All of these methods must be related
to specific qualities detailed in the job holder profile. Interviews
are the most commonly used method.
4/25/2018
9. Motivation
Taylor's viewpoint is reflected in the use of piece-rates in
manufacturing industries and sales bonuses amongst sales
forces. If new technology is going to improve productivity,
the question of adjusting piece-rates downwards to reflect
this will be a sensitive issues.
4/25/2018
10. Working in Groups
Formal groups can be subdivided into command groups.
Which are the departmental grouping that are seen on
organization hierarchy diagrams and which reflect the formal
management structure and task groups setup to deal with
specific tasks.
4/25/2018
11. Decision Making
Structure category:
Generally relatively simple routines decision where role can
be applied in a fairly straight forward way.
Unstructured category:
More complex and often requiring a degree of creativity.
Decision making is the basis of classical economics.
4/25/2018
12. Leadership
Reward power:
Which the holder can confer rewards on those who carry
out tasks to their satisfaction.
Expert power:
Which comes from being the person who is able to do a
specialized task.
Information power: Where the holder has access to
information that others do.
4/25/2018
13. Organizational Structure
The structure is the one that is expressed basically
concerned with authority, about who has which boss. It is
backed by an informal structure of contacts and
communication that grows up among members of staff
during the course of work.
4/25/2018
14. Conclusion
People may be motivated by money, but they are
motivated by other things as well.
Both staff selection and the identification of training needs
should be done in an orderly, structured, way where
requirements are clearly defined first.
Thoughtful job design can increase staff motivation.
Group working is more effective with some types of
activity than others.
Different styles of leadership are needed in different
situations.
