• A good work performance is no guarantee of
success, but without it, a successful long term
career is unlikely.

• One should assess the organization’s
culture to determine what is the
organization’s needs & values
• One should need to project that image in
terms of Organization’s relationships &
culture.
Learn the Power Structure
• Understanding organization
hierarchy & structure
• Who’s really the in charge?
• Who reports to whom?
• Once an individual has a
knowledge of power he can work
with more skill & ease
Gain Control Over Organizational
Resources
• The control of scarce & important
organizational resources is a source of
power
• Knowledge & expertise are particularly
effective resources of power
Stay Visible
• It is important that your boss & those in
power in the organization he made
aware of your contribution
• Different tactics should be used e.g.
distinguish your work from others, give a
regular progress report to the boss.
Don’t Stay Too Long
• If you really made a difference the accept
an early transfer to a new job assignment
• One should go for early transfer by moving
quickly through different departments

• This signals to other that you are on the fast

• It is noted that when a good mentoring
relationship exists employee stress is
decreased.
Support Your Boss
• One should make effort to help & support
the boss
• Be supportive if your boss is under siege
from other organizational members

• Don’t undermine your boss or speak
negatively of your boss to others

• Don’t stay at one place you should advance
yourself to different geographical locations &
across functional lines within the
organization
• Career advancement may also facilitate you
to change organization
• Working in slow, stagnant & decline
organization should make mobility more
important to you

• To survive in the today’s management
environment you should think in terms of lateral
career moves
• A lateral thinking gives you a wide range of
experiences, which enhances your long term

experience from the applicant this
experience can be gained by
participating in the internships
• Now a days internships are the part of
curriculum in the universities
• Internships also provide a chance for
the employer to assess the internee
