Maltreatment Of Patients During Long Term Care Facilities
Maltreatment of Patients in Long–Term Care Facilities Most of us know someone who were past or are current patients in a long–term care facility.
Whether it be a nursing home or assisted living establishment, a relative or a loved one is provided extensive care at these long–term care facilities.
Now imagine if your grandparent or someone close to you was being abused or neglected while residing in one of the many facilities across the globe.
The maltreatment of patients is a significant problem in long–term care facilities. Any form of maltreatment can include neglect and abuse. These
behaviors can cause psychological and physical damage, and in extreme cases, death. This problem has been acknowledged in facilities... Show more

Many of these problems towards elders are preventable, but some nurse aids fail to do their jobs. The best solution for elderly abuse is prevention.
Preventing abuse is one way to educate future residents and victims of elder abuse about how to deal with this situation. There are many prevention
programs across the nation, but one in particular is known as The National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (NCPEA). This association
was established in the year 1988 to serve as information and materials on abuse and neglect for older persons in long–term care facilities. This
committee's purpose is to educate the public about neglect and abuse towards elders, to respond to the needs of victims, to support and inform the
rights of an individual, to strengthen emotions to those who are victims, and of course to prevent any mistreatment before it occurs. Another problem
that contributes to maltreatment in long–term care facilities are mental and physical abuse, malnutrition, and neglect. These effects may include bone
fractures, bed sores, dehydration, and in some severe cases, death. In a 1998 Time Magazine article titled "Shining a Light on Abuse", written by Mark
Thompson, he highlights a statement written by Leslie Olivia to the Senate Special Committee on Aging. In Olivia's statement her mother,

Are We Socially Intelligent?
Are We Socially Intelligent?
Francis Pangfei Lai
Abstract:
It was Daniel Goleman's book "Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships" that started the author thinking on the relevance of
social intelligence to property professionals. In the course of practicing as a property consultancy and lecturing at various universities over the years,
the author notices that a property professional tends to lack the many soft skills of emotional and social intelligence. In this paper, he advocates the need
to include such soft skills of 'social intelligence' as an essential component in the training of future property professionals.
The term 'we' in the title therefore refers to property and real estate professionals such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the words of an editorial review from Publishers Weekly,
"Goleman persuasively argues for a new social model of intelligence drawn from the emerging field of social neuroscience. Describing what happens
to our brains when we connect with others, Goleman demonstrates how relationships have the power to mold not only human experience but also
human biology. In lucid prose he describes from a neurobiological perspective sexual attraction, marriage, parenting, psychopathic behaviors and the
group dynamics of teachers and workers. Goleman frames his discussion in a critique of society 's creeping disconnection in the age of the iPod,
constant digital connectivity and multitasking. Vividly evoking the power of social interaction to influence mood and brain chemistry, Goleman
discusses the "toxicity" of insult and unpleasant social experience as he warns of the dangers of self–absorption and poor attention and reveals the
positive effects of feel–good neurochemicals that are released in loving relationships and in caregiving. Drawing on numerous studies, Goleman
illuminates new theories about attachment, bonding, and the making and remaking of memory as he examines how our brains are wired for altruism,

Devil's Landslide Research Paper
Devil's Slide
After their marriage in 1922, Bert and Grace Dickson lived in Devil's Slide. Bert was called as Bishop of the Slide Ward in 1926, a calling he held for
26 years. It was the Slide Ward because you simply couldn't have the word Devil in the name of a ward. Not long after the Dicksons moved from
Devil's Slide to Morgan, the ward was dissolved.
Bert worked as a plumber at the Union Portland Cement Company and Grace kept house, immaculately. It has been said a fly would skid to death if it
tried to land in Grace's house.
A little bit of background on the town that figures so prominently in Dickson history: In 1824, an Englishman by the name of Aspdin, a stone mason of
Leeds, burned limestone and clay together, then ground both into a powder, which when mixed with sand and water became exceedingly hard. The
stone thus formed resembled the stone from the Isle of Portland, England. The product, therefore, acquired the name of Portland Cement. ... Show more

Workers initially began calling the new community Portland, in honor of the Union Portland Cement Company. However, railroad people objected to
that name and insisted on a Devils Slide moniker instead. They won out and by 1907 the local post office was also called Devils Slide (There was
originally no apostrophe on the town's name).
Several prominent area men recognized the value of limestone in the production of Portland Cement. They formed a corporation named The Union
Portland Cement Company for the purpose of quarrying the limestone. A short list of the founders included: Reed Smoot, M.S. Browning, Joseph
Scowcroft, and James Pingree, with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–Day Saints subscribing $10,000 worth of stock.
A Company town soon sprang–up a couple hundred yards down stream from the plant site. The town was named Devil's Slide after an interesting

P3: Describe the potential effects of discriminatory practice on those who use health or social care services. Discrimination has the potential to affect
individuals in wide–ranging ways. In health and social care, the effects of discrimination can be catastrophic and even end in the death of a service
user. Anyone planning a career in health and social care should be aware of the potential negative effects caused by discrimination. We will explore
them here. Marginalisation As you might expect, marginalisation means being pushed to the margins of society. In other words, you are unable to

Restricted opportunities Discrimination, as we have already seen, has the potential to prevent access to health and social care services. This could be
through the attitudes and beliefs of the health care workers who fail to value all individuals or it could be through the effects of low self–esteem.
Negative behaviours including aggression and criminality Another effect of discrimination can be seen in the behaviour of individuals. This is
particularly noticeable in children, who often display negative behaviours in order to gain attention, even when that attention is negative! Adults and
young people as a result of discrimination and low self–esteem can also display negative behavioural traits. However, in these cases the behaviour can
take on a much more 'sinister' appearance. It may manifest itself as aggression towards those holding power (including health care professionals or
those working in the employment and judicial services) and through criminal activity such as drug taking, burglary and physical violence. Loss of
rights There have been cases in the national media of care homes, secure or forensic units (places of security for people with dangerous psychiatric
behaviours) and individual carers being accused of systematically discriminating against the people in their care and overriding their individual rights
by the use of power or force. Older, vulnerable

Moreover, I consider this to be proven experience as only after 7 months I was given a promotion from Pensions Support Assistant to Pensions

My Experience At The Museum Service Of Fifty Visitors
During the course of her fieldwork she studied the discourse (what people say), the practice (what people do) and the experience. For doing her study
discourse she conducted a visitor survey for the museum service of fifty visitors. In her questionnaire she asked about visitors' demographics, the
experiences of museums' visiting in general, as well as elicited visitors' attitudes. She further combined her data with already existing secondary data,
such as visitor statistics and comment forms that helped to compare her future data of prevalent attitudes and establish the main informants for future
interviews. From these initial surveys she distinguished various demographics of Croydon inhabitants, such as class, gender, ethnicity, life–style
choices and sexuality that she made sure to include in her research. Following established goal Anat Hecht gained access to eighteen visitor households,
six households from three main demographic localities of Croydon. Anat Hecht also established lasting relationships with fifteen staff informants, with
librarians, security staff, cleaners, as well as museums' front and back gallery professionals. These two different groups of informants and the
comparison of what they say and do helped the researcher to understand and deepen her studied subject. Anat Hecht confessed her difficulties in
establishing rapport with her respondents. The reason for it was that the first contact was made in the museum setting that is why her informants

Urban Real Estate Economics And Juxtaposes Them With...
THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
This paper discusses and analyses modern theories of urban real estate economics and juxtaposes them with traditional theories. In earlier times, city
life used to revolve around a central business district (CBD) which was the nerve centre of all economic, social and cultural activity. As a result, real
estate prices reflected the proximity of the site to the CBD and they dropped the further one went from it. The dichotomy is often expressed through
architecture, with high–rise apartment buildings in the city and low–rise developments further out. Alonso, 1964; Mills, 1972 and Muth, 1969 mulled
on this model of cities and viewed real estate economic data and ran studies through the lens of a monocentric urban ... Show more content on

It is based on the law of diminishing returns – that over time, produce from a certain land parcel will decline in quantity and quality, yielding lower
and lower profits, while at the same time, pressure on the land in the form of population will always rise. As it is the amount paid by the lessee for the
indestructible powers of the land, different parcels with different fertility capacities will command different rents. As the amount of land is finite, the
cost of production will also keep rising. Applying this theory to urban real estate, a monocentric city would have finite space for development due to
which costs of construction will rise, passing on the burden to the buyer.
Von Thunen, on the other hand, concerned himself with location and transportation costs in addition to fertility as factors determining price. He
attributed differential rents to distances between places with desirable qualities and the costs of transporting oneself between them. At its most basic,
the theory stands for the hypothesis that without the need for proximity and the price (rent) charged for it, land would be an almost free good.
For two residential locations to have near identical prices, not only must they be located close to each other, but they must also provide the same level
of utility to residents. This is because the decisions of location

Huxley's Response To Society
Aldous Huxley's novel Brave New World is a warning to society. Huxley describes a society that is completely conformed to government and relies
on the government for all of their needs. Huxley uses symbolism in his novel to introduce warnings on how today's society should not be ran. A
society based on people being born into a caste system would not be a successful society according to Huxley. A destroyed society will occur when
antidepressants are overused, the number of broken families increase, cloning becomes possible, and a decrease of sexual morals takes place.
Antidepressants are becoming more common in today's society. Brave New Worlddemonstrates a society that bases emotions on a drug called soma.

Brave New World is a society that does not believe in families and the world today is depicting the society in the novel more by the number of
broken families. Present day society does not view broken families as a problem but Huxley exemplifies a world with no families in his novel.
Huxley is trying to warn the world that we are headed in a direction of destruction with no families. Mothers and fathers will not exist and children
will be placed on "racks upon racks of test tubes" in a hatchery system where the children are conditioned to their own caste. Studies show that
"researchers at the University of New Mexico warned that girls rely too much on romantic relationships for their self–identity" (Croydon). Women are
known to be more emotionally attached to relationships and want families but if children in today's world are more exposed to broken families within
their own lives, they will think that broken families are normal and not want a true family. When the people of today's world no longer want a family,
we will become just as the World State has

The Adventure Of The Cardboard Box By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
1. "The Adventure of the Cardboard Box" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is a fictional short story. There are no other possible genres this story could
fall into. 2. The exposition of the story is when Watson sets the stage by describing the weather and what he and his companion, Holmes, were
doing. According to Watson, "It was a blazing hot day in August. Baker Street was like an oven, and the glare of the sunlight upon the yellow
brickwork of the house across the road was painful to the eye." Watson was sitting at a desk reading the newspaper; while Holmes was lying on the
couch reading a letter he had received that morning. Watson became dissatisfied with paper and tossed it aside while Sherlock read his thoughts.
Holmes astounded Watson by knowing exactly what he was thinking just by his facial features, eyes, and slight movements. After Holmes explained
how he knew what Watson was thinking, Watson said, "And now that you have explained it, I confess that I am as amazed as before." 3. "But I have
in my hands here a little problem which may prove to be more difficult of solution than my small essay I thought reading. Have you observed in the
paper a short paragraph referring to the remarkable contents of a packet sent through the post to Miss Cushing, of Cross Street, Croydon?" Those
particular lines are the start of the rising action in this short story because they present the problem, which the characters must solve. Watson then goes

enforce the policies by making sure that any type of breach of policy is punished, and finally make sure you follow the same culture at all times do
not ask your employees to do something you are not willing to do. Following these rules would have definitely changed the outcome of the Farrow

Childhood Obesity Policy Essay
One Health and Social Care Policy which I am going to critically review is the childhood obesity policy. The 2010–2015 government policy: Obesity
and Healthy Eating was updated in May 2015 and states many ways for improvements to be made. The purpose of this policy is to try to reduce the
amount of unhealthy foods children eat in the UK.
A key factor of health in later life is childhood obesity. Childhood obesity is a medical condition where excess body fat negatively affects a child's
health or well–being. Medical conditions are not the only factor which causes children to be obese it is the parental/family influences as well. Family
influences on children are a huge factor because when children are younger they eat what the parent's eats which can determine what the child ends up

Personal Statement: A Career As A Healthcare Assistant
For the first time, in a long time I know what I want and that is– to become a Nurse.
Every day, through my work as a Healthcare assistant, I am given the opportunity to better the lives of one of the most vulnerable people in society,
providing 12 hour care to the elderly living with dementia in a nursing home. It is an excellent learning environment and throughout the year I have
been working there, I gained various skills which will be useful during my training such as safer manual handling, through my frequent use of hoists
and slide sheets to transfer immobile residents, different ways of resolving challenging behaviour and preserving dignity as well as performing first aid.
The dementia patients I care for are a constant reminder to me why I want to become a Nurse and to put it in simple words– I love the feeling of
satisfaction when caring for others. It is in our human nature to care for ourselves, our family or our friends but a strong passion required to do so for
others. I feel this is something that sets me apart from others.
I face the challenges of being responsible for the lives of over 10 residents completely dependent on myself and three other staffs. And so it helped me
to develop the ability to stay composed when working under pressure; I learned just how vital different forms of communications are as working with
residents with dementia you learn about them as individuals, their habits, manners and personality without the need of verbal communication.

The consumer protection laws are of great advantage to customers as they enable fair treatment and good value to customers.
Competition Laws
The Office of Fair Trading monitors and ensures that all businesses are at even level with consumers. The law protects abusiness from being demoted
by its competitors.
For example, when Coca– Cola Enterprises Ltd advertises a beverage the company is not to say, "PepsiCo is a waste of money" but is allowed to say,
"Coca– Cola reaches the top." This legislation would limit the market planning of the company.
Competition laws will also be an advantage to customers as they would prevent misleading claims from businesses.
Below is a description of how a legal factor may affect the activities of Croydon Health Services NHS:
Health and Safety Law
The law obligates Croydon Health Services NHS to ensure that employees, patients, and so forth are to be provided a safe environment at all times.
Being in the health sector makes the law very important for the running of the organisation. Hospitals are the centre of epidemics and diseases which
makes this law very important in the operation of the organisation. Therefore, the organisation has installed equipment that maintains the hygiene of its
hospitals.
The law also obliges the organisation to provide health and safety information and equipment to staff and patients.
An example could be; when the organisation does advanced X–

How Did American Culture Affect The Changes In The 1920s
The rapid changes in America throughout the 1920s were defined by a multitude of events, people, and advancements. An increase in immigration
brought new values and customs to the United States, as there were people coming from all over the world. New lines of work, such as big

crowds; Paris, with its Boulevards throngs, and Washington with its glittering of formality were all but obliterated by the greetings of New York."
(New York World). Sports stars also began to impact culture in the U.S. With the new lines of work, like big bureaucratic agencies, changing the
workplace and creating an impersonal work culture, sports became important to Americans. People saw sporting events and playing sports a new form
of entertainment. The American classic sport of football was described in the New York Herald
–Tribune as "...a great football team brilliantly directed,
a team of speed, power, and team play. The Army has no cause to gloom over its showing. I played a first–class football against more than it could
match.". This is an example of how people idolized sports

James Walker Funeral
About three months later on December 2, 1866 they were married at Croydon,Utah by Bishop James Walker. A dinner party was given in their
honor by Charles and Harriet Shill. This was a happy event on their wedding day. Robert and his wife Miriam continued living with Edward on the
farm. It was about this time in early winter that Edward wanted to build a new log house. The logs had been hauled from the canyon by ox team in
early fall. Robert was a good workman and was anxious to help get the house built and the work began. It was one large room with door and windows
and was joined on to the other house. Each house faced south so that from the outside it looked like one long log house with, two front doors. With this
addition there was more room,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They had obtained a plot of ground in the northwest section of the settlement and were getting logs for the house which was built like other log
houses. It was probably about the year 1869 when they moved from the Richins farm to their new home where they lived as farmers most of their
lives. Time was passing by, and they had not yet had their endowments. On September 12, 1870 they went to Salt Lake Endowment House and took
out their endowments and were sealed by Apostle Wilford Woodruff. As members of the Church they were active in the ward where Robert held many
different positions. When the Sunday School was organized, he was appointed first superintendent of the Henefer Sunday School with Brothers James
Paskett and William Brewer as. assistants in the year of 1871. He held this position twenty–five years. He was chosen to be a counselor to Bishop
Charles Richins July 9, 1877, which position he held until 1890. A few years later on August 2, 1903 he was ordained a Patriarch in Summit Stake.

That is why businesses prefer to recruit overseas workers than workers born in the UK. "A quarter of the sample of more than 1,000 companies said
they planned to hire foreign workers over the coming months". "The Chartered Institute of Personal Development said demand for workers from
overseas had reached record levels because companies felt young people in the UK lacked skills to make them employable". (Guardian newspaper).
This leaves the 16–24 year olds in a less fortunate position.
In contrary to this fact, how will it become possible for youths to learn the needed skills if they do not get a chance to put their foot through the door?
In remedy to this issue, the Government has introduced a new scheme where they "will offer a ВЈ1,500 cash incentive to small firms who hire an
apprentice for the first time". (Daily Mail). Within the contract of this proposal, companies will have to "educate the young person in English and
maths to a level at which they would be able to pass a GCSE in both subjects". (Daily Mail). This would be an attractive offer for some small
businesses due to the cash incentive, which would help their business in these turbulent times.

Sherlock Holmes : The Adventure Of The Cardboard Box
My book is called Sherlock Holmes: The Adventure of the Cardboard Box. It is a mystery written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who wrote many
stories starring Sherlock Holmes. It is set in 19th century England. The major character is Sherlock Holmes. He possesses a keen intellect and is a
master of reason and deduction. He has a brilliant analytical mind and an incredible range of knowledge. Sherlock is over six feet tall, thin, with
piercing gray eyes and a thin hawk–like nose. Because he is self–appointed, Sherlock is the only consulting detective in the world. Although he is
emotionally detached and can be looked at as cold, Sherlock manages to maintain a close relationship with Dr. John H. Watson, his roommate. A minor
character is John H. Watson, who narrates the story and is Sherlock's assistant and friend. John is a physician for the British army in Afghanistan, but
is put on leave due to a shoulder injury. Being an Army veteran, he is an excellent shot and has a high sense of honor. He is fairly intelligent, loyal,
straight–forward, and brave. John is middle–aged, strongly built, of average height, and has a small mustache. He is devoted to Sherlock and would
risk his life for him. Another minor character is Miss Susan Cushing, a middle–aged placid woman who is the victim of what appears to be a revolting
practical joke. Miss Cushing has large gentle eyes and gray hair. She has two sisters, Sarah and Mary. Jim Browning is the alcoholic husband of Mary.

Carers in Oban house care home in Croydon were recorded in around 2012 to be ignoring bedridden 98–year–old Yvonne Grant cries for help for2 ВЅ
hours despite her calling for assistance 321 times including 45 requests to be taken to the toilet. When a carer finally acknowledged her cries, she told
Yvonne to use incontinence pads which was something that Yvonne wasn't comfortable with doing. Staff then tried to make her walk to the toilet but
when she was unable to; they dropped her roughly back on to the bed. Yvonne had been living in the care home since 2010 and during the last years of
her life her family began to worry about the quality of care that she was receiving with staff ignoring any concerns that the family had. The family also
stated that there was something incorrect with staffs attitudes and quality of nursing. Yvonne's granddaughter Vanessa Evans hid a camera in her room
on three occasions after concerns about bruising on Yvonne's hands and making mistakes with medication. When the family revealed that they had
been recording the abuse and neglect they stated that she gave up on life two days after. Yvonne died in January 2013 due to the lack of care she
received. The family passed the video evidence on to the CQC who then launched an investigation.

Why I Ukrainian Art As A Multicultural Society
She interviewed 28 respondents during 1.5–2 hours with each person and documented in total 411 Ukrainian items. For her data analysis she used
model developed by (35) LeCompte and Schensul, who voted for categorizing objects according to three levels: item, pattern and structural levels. She
categorized art objects according to their types, geographical origin, functions, means of acquisition, and meanings. In the result of her study Anna
received big amount of quantitative data that she placed in tables in accordance with her analysis criteria. Her findings are based on empirical data that
she collected. During her research Anna developed new approaches into studying art, introduced new classification of art that was more relevant to the
study objectives. She obtained conclusions about what is regarded to be Ukrainian art as connected to maintenance of ethnic identity in a multicultural
society.
Anat Hecht, on the other side, is an outsider to the British culture. She is from Israel and works at the International Institute of Holocaust Research,
University of Haifa, Israel at the moment. Her primarily interest is in museum studies and consumption. In her dissertation she provides detailed
description of the methodology and the rationale used in her study as compared to Anna Kuranicheva's work.

Writers on observation discuss about observers having insider and outsider perspectives (Riche & Tanner, 1998; Pellegrini, 1996:16), Pellegrini
(1996) believe that observers should have outsider perspective, and they should divorce themselves entirely from interaction. In addition to this
Wilson (1992:38) added that observers need to be appropriately responsive and yet remained detached, to avoid being drawn in and offering advice
or doing anything with, or to, the subject. There are also issues around being obtrusive this could have an effect on the participants especially when
we want to observe them in their natural setting (Pellegrini, 1996:49). Riche and Tanner (1998; Briggs, 1995) support this but they acknowledge
that observers can find it impossible to remain an outsider, and that the observer will become part of the process, though that nature and degree may
vary. When looking back on my experience I had every intention to take on an outsider perspective however, during my observation I found it harder
and harder and on my last observation I was interacting with the whole family. I think that interacting with the family (especially Paige) helped my
observation (Appendix 2 2nd and 3rd observation) as I felt they were more relaxed around and did not see me as an observer; I feel this helped them

How Lucky You Are by Depi Alper
How lucky you are?
"How Lucky You Are" is a short story by Debi Alper and was published in 2010. The story begins with in medias res which means that the story is
starting in a midpoint and it is about a boy named Max and an Iranian girl named Ishraqi. Max has a crush on Ishraqi. The situation between max and
Ishraqi changes the way that Max treats his mom. The story takes place in Britain and the plot of the story takes place in one day. The story is told in
a third–person–view, and has an open end.
The story has 3 parts:
The first part is based on a flashback, where we get to know when Max's dad left the family. The story takes place in South London in Croydon where
Max and his family live. They live nearby the UK Border Agency in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Max is turned at last when Max comes home after ''the loss'' of Ishraqi; ''When Max arrived home late, his mother took one look at his face and bit
off the angry lecture she had been preparing. Instead, she folded her son in her arms and waited for the time he would talk to her.'' Line 200, page 5.
The main theme in the story is that you should appreciate what you have. In the beginning Max didn't appreciate his family or the benefits and
opportunities he has. He argued with his mother and didn't take his school serious but at the end he had an eye–opener.
A characterizing of Max would be that he has a flexible personality. Max is an annoying boy but also a really nurturing one. He doesn't care about
the people around him. In the first part of the story, the reader realizes that Max can be a free spirit and creative boy with a free and creative
imagination. Max used to be a happy teenager, until his father left the whole family behind, because of that Max lost a bit of himself and he also lost
his enthusiasm of participating in class, in general being a passionate student. Max is living a closed lift – it's like he lives in his own little bubble. He
is not doing anything meaningful in his life, just existing and observing. On the outside he seems like a bad guy but very deep inside he is a boy who
wants to find his passion, enthusiasm and maybe love again, you see that in the last part of the story

Donoghue V Stevenson Case Essay
Essay Question: Read Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] A.C. 562. Assess the way in which Lords Atkin and Buckmaster use the case law they discuss
in at least three instances (eg Langridge v Levy; Winterbottom v Wright; Longmeid v Holliday; George v Skivington; Heaven v Pender; Le Lievre v
Gould; etc), with reference to the operation of the doctrine of precedent and the techniques of applying and distinguishing cases. This will require you
to do much more than describe the facts of any of the cases involved; we are interested in the legal/judicial techniques employed by the judges and how
they deal with previous case law that could be regarded as favourable or adverse to the judges' preferred view of the common law in Mrs Donoghue's
case.
By way of comment, identify and evaluate the operation of Llewellyn's law jobs in this case.
Name: Abisola Ewaoluwa Ajisola In this essay I plan to identify and discuss the technical use of some case law by Lords Atkin and Buckmaster.
Also to provide an in depth explanation of the reasons for the way their Lordships treat the cases as they do. Firstly, previous cases or a higher court
need not bind Lord Buckmaster and Lord Atkin as they are operating in the Supreme Court (formerly known as The House of Lords) and there is no
higher court. However they may be bound by their own pervious decisions.
Lord Buckmaster was a slave to precedent, and was unwilling to allow the common law to adapt to meet the perceived needs of modern society . In

How to Talk to Girls at Parties by Neil Gaiman
In Neil Gaiman's short story, "How to Talk to Girls at Parties," Gaiman takes you on an out of the world encounter that occurs to two young teenage
boys. The story starts off with Enn and Vic, the two young boys, who are trying to find a party by Croydon station. Vic is anxious to go to the
party to meet some girls while Enn is more shy and apprehensive about talking to girls. When they finally find the party Vic goes off to mingle with
a girl named Stella and Enn meets some very unique girls who tell him stories about traveling the universe and swimming in the sun. Enn starts to get
friendly with one of the girls and right when he's about kiss her Vic comes running to Enn saying that they need to go right now. When they finally
get outside Enn sees that Vic is crying and scared out of his mind, but he never tells Enn what happened, but it is implied that the girls were aliens.
The theme of this story would be that maybe guys and girls really are from different worlds. Gaiman develops his theme by using setting, point of
view, irony, and dialogue. The story is told by Enn, the youngboy who is reluctant to go to the party because he's not really good at talking to girls.
Because Enn is telling the story from his point of view we are able to understand very quickly that Vic is clearly the ladies' man and that Enn is not.
This puts Vic almost in a higher and more dominant position than Enn. The way that Enn talks about girls makes it very noticeable that he has almost no

Tattooing Research Paper
Tattooing has been practiced across the world since at least Neolithic times, as evidenced by mummified preserved skin, and ancient art. Ancient art
finds of possible tattooing tools suggest tattooing was practiced by the Upper Paleolithic period in Europe. However, direct evidence for tattooing on

Cut In Legal Aid Essay
Cuts in legal aid are causing problems for the ordinary people and leaving them without vital support because there has been a reform in legal aid,
which are the cuts. In this assignment, I will discuss the two–different side of impact of legal aid cuts on the people and how this act has impacted legal
aid. Legal Aid and Advice Act 1949 was the beginning of legal aid, this is the access to assistance to fight for justice for the ones that cannot afford
legal representation and in need of protection. The state pays the legal professions which are the solicitors and barristers to ensure the right to a fair
trial and equality before the law is not breached. In 2012, legal aid cut was formed where the government decided that there should be... Show more

Which suggested negative outcomes because they are saving a huge amount but effecting more people. For example, an online article the Royal
Gazette it states that 'Mentally ill 'Let down by the justice system', it's about mentally ill man is not being granted legal aid because he does not fall
into a category that will grant legal aid for him. This is wrong as injustice is happening to him and his human right is being breach, which then
proves that the government is not protecting the citizens and not carrying out the right responsibilities. Also, present why the legal aid shouldn't
have cuts as now it's become a barrier to justice. Another, problem that legal aid cuts have raised is parents fighting for custody, if a legal aid service
cannot represent one side, it states how they will struggle without the help of legal aid and then won't get the custody and which will go to the other
parent that's probably not fit to take custody for the kids. For instance, a mother that is low on income, she won't be able to afford her own
representation and she won't receive legal aid as she's not mentally unstable, this will leave her for litigation, but the fact she won't win because she
cannot procedure sufficient evidence against her opposite

Maltreatment Of Patients During Long Term Care Facilities

  • 1. Maltreatment Of Patients During Long Term Care Facilities Maltreatment of Patients in Long–Term Care Facilities Most of us know someone who were past or are current patients in a long–term care facility. These behaviors can cause psychological and physical damage, and in extreme cases, death. This problem has been acknowledged in facilities... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of these problems towards elders are preventable, but some nurse aids fail to do their jobs. The best solution for elderly abuse is prevention. Preventing abuse is one way to educate future residents and victims of elder abuse about how to deal with this situation. There are many prevention programs across the nation, but one in particular is known as The National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (NCPEA). This association was established in the year 1988 to serve as information and materials on abuse and neglect for older persons in long–term care facilities. This committee's purpose is to educate the public about neglect and abuse towards elders, to respond to the needs of victims, to support and inform the rights of an individual, to strengthen emotions to those who are victims, and of course to prevent any mistreatment before it occurs. Another problem that contributes to maltreatment in long–term care facilities are mental and physical abuse, malnutrition, and neglect. These effects may include bone fractures, bed sores, dehydration, and in some severe cases, death. In a 1998 Time Magazine article titled "Shining a Light on Abuse", written by Mark Thompson, he highlights a statement written by Leslie Olivia to the Senate Special Committee on Aging. • 3. Are We Socially Intelligent? Are We Socially Intelligent? Francis Pangfei Lai Abstract: It was Daniel Goleman's book "Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships" that started the author thinking on the relevance of social intelligence to property professionals. In the course of practicing as a property consultancy and lecturing at various universities over the years, the author notices that a property professional tends to lack the many soft skills of emotional and social intelligence. In this paper, he advocates the need to include such soft skills of 'social intelligence' as an essential component in the training of future property professionals. The term 'we' in the title therefore refers to property and real estate professionals such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the words of an editorial review from Publishers Weekly, "Goleman persuasively argues for a new social model of intelligence drawn from the emerging field of social neuroscience. Describing what happens to our brains when we connect with others, Goleman demonstrates how relationships have the power to mold not only human experience but also human biology. In lucid prose he describes from a neurobiological perspective sexual attraction, marriage, parenting, psychopathic behaviors and the group dynamics of teachers and workers. Goleman frames his discussion in a critique of society 's creeping disconnection in the age of the iPod, constant digital connectivity and multitasking. Vividly evoking the power of social interaction to influence mood and brain chemistry, Goleman discusses the "toxicity" of insult and unpleasant social experience as he warns of the dangers of self–absorption and poor attention and reveals the positive effects of feel–good neurochemicals that are released in loving relationships and in caregiving. Drawing on numerous studies, Goleman illuminates new theories about attachment, bonding, and the making and remaking of memory as he examines how our brains are wired for altruism, ... • 4. Devil's Landslide Research Paper Devil's Slide After their marriage in 1922, Bert and Grace Dickson lived in Devil's Slide. Bert was called as Bishop of the Slide Ward in 1926, a calling he held for 26 years. It was the Slide Ward because you simply couldn't have the word Devil in the name of a ward. Not long after the Dicksons moved from Devil's Slide to Morgan, the ward was dissolved. Bert worked as a plumber at the Union Portland Cement Company and Grace kept house, immaculately. It has been said a fly would skid to death if it tried to land in Grace's house. A little bit of background on the town that figures so prominently in Dickson history: In 1824, an Englishman by the name of Aspdin, a stone mason of Leeds, burned limestone and clay together, then ground both into a powder, which when mixed with sand and water became exceedingly hard. The stone thus formed resembled the stone from the Isle of Portland, England. The product, therefore, acquired the name of Portland Cement. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Workers initially began calling the new community Portland, in honor of the Union Portland Cement Company. However, railroad people objected to that name and insisted on a Devils Slide moniker instead. They won out and by 1907 the local post office was also called Devils Slide (There was originally no apostrophe on the town's name). Several prominent area men recognized the value of limestone in the production of Portland Cement. They formed a corporation named The Union Portland Cement Company for the purpose of quarrying the limestone. A short list of the founders included: Reed Smoot, M.S. Browning, Joseph Scowcroft, and James Pingree, with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–Day Saints subscribing $10,000 worth of stock. Discrimination has the potential to affect individuals in wide–ranging ways. In health and social care, the effects of discrimination can be catastrophic and even end in the death of a service user. Anyone planning a career in health and social care should be aware of the potential negative effects caused by discrimination. We will explore them here. Restricted opportunities Discrimination, as we have already seen, has the potential to prevent access to health and social care services. This could be through the attitudes and beliefs of the health care workers who fail to value all individuals or it could be through the effects of low self–esteem. Negative behaviours including aggression and criminality Another effect of discrimination can be seen in the behaviour of individuals. This is particularly noticeable in children, who often display negative behaviours in order to gain attention, even when that attention is negative! Adults and young people as a result of discrimination and low self–esteem can also display negative behavioural traits. However, in these cases the behaviour can take on a much more 'sinister' appearance. It may manifest itself as aggression towards those holding power (including health care professionals or those working in the employment and judicial services) and through criminal activity such as drug taking, burglary and physical violence. Loss of rights There have been cases in the national media of care homes, secure or forensic units (places of security for people with dangerous psychiatric behaviours) and individual carers being accused of systematically discriminating against the people in their care and overriding their individual rights by the use of power or force. Statement Of Purpose For Administration I believe the skills I have obtained throughout my time at work, university, and voluntary roles, would make me a suitable candidate for the position of Pensions Administration Support Officer at Croydon Council. • 8. My Experience At The Museum Service Of Fifty Visitors During the course of her fieldwork she studied the discourse (what people say), the practice (what people do) and the experience. For doing her study discourse she conducted a visitor survey for the museum service of fifty visitors. In her questionnaire she asked about visitors' demographics, the experiences of museums' visiting in general, as well as elicited visitors' attitudes. She further combined her data with already existing secondary data, such as visitor statistics and comment forms that helped to compare her future data of prevalent attitudes and establish the main informants for future interviews. From these initial surveys she distinguished various demographics of Croydon inhabitants, such as class, gender, ethnicity, life–style choices and sexuality that she made sure to include in her research. Following established goal Anat Hecht gained access to eighteen visitor households, six households from three main demographic localities of Croydon. Anat Hecht also established lasting relationships with fifteen staff informants, with librarians, security staff, cleaners, as well as museums' front and back gallery professionals. These two different groups of informants and the comparison of what they say and do helped the researcher to understand and deepen her studied subject. • 9. Urban Real Estate Economics And Juxtaposes Them With... THEORETICAL BACKGROUND This paper discusses and analyses modern theories of urban real estate economics and juxtaposes them with traditional theories. In earlier times, city life used to revolve around a central business district (CBD) which was the nerve centre of all economic, social and cultural activity. As a result, real estate prices reflected the proximity of the site to the CBD and they dropped the further one went from it. The dichotomy is often expressed through architecture, with high–rise apartment buildings in the city and low–rise developments further out. Alonso, 1964; Mills, 1972 and Muth, 1969 mulled on this model of cities and viewed real estate economic data and ran studies through the lens of a monocentric urban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is based on the law of diminishing returns – that over time, produce from a certain land parcel will decline in quantity and quality, yielding lower and lower profits, while at the same time, pressure on the land in the form of population will always rise. As it is the amount paid by the lessee for the indestructible powers of the land, different parcels with different fertility capacities will command different rents. As the amount of land is finite, the cost of production will also keep rising. Applying this theory to urban real estate, a monocentric city would have finite space for development due to which costs of construction will rise, passing on the burden to the buyer. Von Thunen, on the other hand, concerned himself with location and transportation costs in addition to fertility as factors determining price. He attributed differential rents to distances between places with desirable qualities and the costs of transporting oneself between them. At its most basic, the theory stands for the hypothesis that without the need for proximity and the price (rent) charged for it, land would be an almost free good. There are no other possible genres this story could fall into. 2. The exposition of the story is when Watson sets the stage by describing the weather and what he and his companion, Holmes, were doing. According to Watson, "It was a blazing hot day in August. Baker Street was like an oven, and the glare of the sunlight upon the yellow brickwork of the house across the road was painful to the eye." Watson was sitting at a desk reading the newspaper; while Holmes was lying on the couch reading a letter he had received that morning. Watson became dissatisfied with paper and tossed it aside while Sherlock read his thoughts. Holmes astounded Watson by knowing exactly what he was thinking just by his facial features, eyes, and slight movements. After Holmes explained how he knew what Watson was thinking, Watson said, "And now that you have explained it, I confess that I am as amazed as before." 3. "But I have in my hands here a little problem which may prove to be more difficult of solution than my small essay I thought reading. Have you observed in the paper a short paragraph referring to the remarkable contents of a packet sent through the post to Miss Cushing, of Cross Street, Croydon?" In addition to this Wilson (1992:38) added that observers need to be appropriately responsive and yet remained detached, to avoid being drawn in and offering advice or doing anything with, or to, the subject. There are also issues around being obtrusive this could have an effect on the participants especially when we want to observe them in their natural setting (Pellegrini, 1996:49). Max is turned at last when Max comes home after ''the loss'' of Ishraqi; ''When Max arrived home late, his mother took one look at his face and bit off the angry lecture she had been preparing. Instead, she folded her son in her arms and waited for the time he would talk to her.'' Line 200, page 5. The main theme in the story is that you should appreciate what you have. In the beginning Max didn't appreciate his family or the benefits and opportunities he has. He argued with his mother and didn't take his school serious but at the end he had an eye–opener. A characterizing of Max would be that he has a flexible personality. Max is an annoying boy but also a really nurturing one. He doesn't care about the people around him. In the first part of the story, the reader realizes that Max can be a free spirit and creative boy with a free and creative imagination. Max used to be a happy teenager, until his father left the whole family behind, because of that Max lost a bit of himself and he also lost his enthusiasm of participating in class, in general being a passionate student. Max is living a closed lift – it's like he lives in his own little bubble. He is not doing anything meaningful in his life, just existing and observing. On the outside he seems like a bad guy but very deep inside he is a boy who wants to find his passion, enthusiasm and maybe love again, you see that in the last part of the story ... • 37. Donoghue V Stevenson Case Essay Essay Question: Read Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] A.C. 562. Assess the way in which Lords Atkin and Buckmaster use the case law they discuss in at least three instances (eg Langridge v Levy; Winterbottom v Wright; Longmeid v Holliday; George v Skivington; Heaven v Pender; Le Lievre v Gould; etc), with reference to the operation of the doctrine of precedent and the techniques of applying and distinguishing cases. This will require you to do much more than describe the facts of any of the cases involved; we are interested in the legal/judicial techniques employed by the judges and how they deal with previous case law that could be regarded as favourable or adverse to the judges' preferred view of the common law in Mrs Donoghue's case. Firstly, previous cases or a higher court need not bind Lord Buckmaster and Lord Atkin as they are operating in the Supreme Court (formerly known as The House of Lords) and there is no higher court. However they may be bound by their own pervious decisions. Lord Buckmaster was a slave to precedent, and was unwilling to allow the common law to adapt to meet the perceived needs of modern society . • 38. How to Talk to Girls at Parties by Neil Gaiman In Neil Gaiman's short story, "How to Talk to Girls at Parties," Gaiman takes you on an out of the world encounter that occurs to two young teenage boys. The story starts off with Enn and Vic, the two young boys, who are trying to find a party by Croydon station. Vic is anxious to go to the party to meet some girls while Enn is more shy and apprehensive about talking to girls. When they finally find the party Vic goes off to mingle with a girl named Stella and Enn meets some very unique girls who tell him stories about traveling the universe and swimming in the sun. Enn starts to get friendly with one of the girls and right when he's about kiss her Vic comes running to Enn saying that they need to go right now. When they finally get outside Enn sees that Vic is crying and scared out of his mind, but he never tells Enn what happened, but it is implied that the girls were aliens. The theme of this story would be that maybe guys and girls really are from different worlds. Gaiman develops his theme by using setting, point of view, irony, and dialogue. The way that Enn talks about girls makes it very noticeable that he has almost no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Cut In Legal Aid Essay Cuts in legal aid are causing problems for the ordinary people and leaving them without vital support because there has been a reform in legal aid, which are the cuts. In this assignment, I will discuss the two–different side of impact of legal aid cuts on the people and how this act has impacted legal aid. Legal Aid and Advice Act 1949 was the beginning of legal aid, this is the access to assistance to fight for justice for the ones that cannot afford legal representation and in need of protection. The state pays the legal professions which are the solicitors and barristers to ensure the right to a fair trial and equality before the law is not breached. Which suggested negative outcomes because they are saving a huge amount but effecting more people. For example, an online article the Royal Gazette it states that 'Mentally ill 'Let down by the justice system', it's about mentally ill man is not being granted legal aid because he does not fall into a category that will grant legal aid for him. This is wrong as injustice is happening to him and his human right is being breach, which then proves that the government is not protecting the citizens and not carrying out the right responsibilities. Also, present why the legal aid shouldn't have cuts as now it's become a barrier to justice. Another, problem that legal aid cuts have raised is parents fighting for custody, if a legal aid service cannot represent one side, it states how they will struggle without the help of legal aid and then won't get the custody and which will go to the other parent that's probably not fit to take custody for the kids. For instance, a mother that is low on income, she won't be able to afford her own representation and she won't receive legal aid as she's not mentally unstable, this will leave her for litigation, but the fact she won't win because she cannot procedure sufficient evidence against her opposite ...
