2. What does it mean??
 Infertility is defined as a disease of the
reproductive system that impairs the body's
ability to perform the basic function of
reproduction.
 It should not be confused with Impotence
which is the inability to achieve or maintain an
erection long enough to engage in sexual
intercourse.

3. Who is affected by Infertility??
 Infertility affects about 10 percent of couples
of childbearing age.
 Infertility is not just a woman's concern.
 About one-third of infertility can be
attributed to male alone factors and about
one-third to female alone factors.

4. What is Male Factor??
 Infertility is often believed to be a woman's problem.
However, studies indicate that 35% of infertility is related to
male factor problems.
 Such as structural abnormalities, sperm production
disorders, ejaculatory disturbances and immunologic
disorders.
 When a male is forced to contend with male factor infertility,
he is facing an emotional journey. A man often associates his
sense of masculinity with the ability to conceive a child.

5. What are the risk factors for Men regarding
Infertility??
 History of prostatitis, genital infection,
testicular trauma or torsion.
 History of precocious puberty (puberty
occurring at a young age) or delayed puberty
(puberty occurring at an older age).

6. What are the risk factors for Men regarding
Infertility??
 Exposure to toxic substances or hazards on the
job, such as lead, cadmium, mercury, ethylene
oxide, vinyl chloride, radioactivity, and x-ray.
 Cigarettes, tobacco or marijuana smoke.
 Heavy alcohol consumption.

temperatures especially workers near
furnaces, soaking in hot water bath for a
long time everyday.
 Surgical injury to vas especially after inguinal
hernia repair on both sides.
 Undescended testicles.

 Infectious diseases such as mumps .
 Pituitary problems.
 Immunological disorders in which some men
produce antibodies to their own sperms.

tobacco, alcohol, stress at work or home.
 Genetic diseases.
 Anatomical abnormalities.

10. What are the Causes of Infertility??
 Inability to deliver sperms into the female
genital tract, which could be caused by
impotence or vaginismus.
 Chronic liver disease.
 Chronic Renal disease.

11. How to diagnose the Problem??
 Medical history.
 If a couple wishing to have a child and is practicing
unprotected intercourse for a year without success the
