Flu Vaccine Alert in Bangalore Karnatakaaddon Scans
As flu season approaches, health officials in Bangalore, Karnataka, are urging residents to get their flu vaccinations. The seasonal flu, while common, can lead to severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.
Dr. Vidisha Kumari, a leading epidemiologist in Bangalore, emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated. "The flu vaccine is our best defense against the influenza virus. It not only protects individuals but also helps prevent the spread of the virus in our communities," he says.
This year, the flu season is expected to coincide with a potential increase in other respiratory illnesses. The Karnataka Health Department has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the significance of flu vaccinations. They have set up multiple vaccination centers across Bangalore, making it convenient for residents to receive their shots.
To encourage widespread vaccination, the government is also collaborating with local schools, workplaces, and community centers to facilitate vaccination drives. Special attention is being given to ensuring that the vaccine is accessible to all, including marginalized communities who may have limited access to healthcare.
Residents are reminded that the flu vaccine is safe and effective. Common side effects are mild and may include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or muscle aches. These side effects are generally short-lived and far less severe than the flu itself.
Healthcare providers are also stressing the importance of continuing COVID-19 precautions. Wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and maintaining social distancing are still crucial, especially in crowded places.
Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated. Together, we can help keep Bangalore healthy and safe this flu season. For more information on vaccination centers and schedules, residents can visit the Karnataka Health Department’s official website or follow their social media pages.

CDSCO and Phamacovigilance {Regulatory body in India}NEHA GUPTA
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) is India's national regulatory body for pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Operating under the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, the CDSCO is responsible for approving new drugs, conducting clinical trials, setting standards for drugs, controlling the quality of imported drugs, and coordinating the activities of State Drug Control Organizations by providing expert advice.
Pharmacovigilance, on the other hand, is the science and activities related to the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problems. The primary aim of pharmacovigilance is to ensure the safety and efficacy of medicines, thereby protecting public health.
In India, pharmacovigilance activities are monitored by the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), which works closely with CDSCO to collect, analyze, and act upon data regarding adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Together, they play a critical role in ensuring that the benefits of drugs outweigh their risks, maintaining high standards of patient safety, and promoting the rational use of medicines.

MALARIA
What is Malaria?
"Malaria is a life-threatening disease transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes,
causing fever, chills, and flu-like symptoms.“
How Malaria is spread?
"Malaria is spread through the bite of infected female Anopheles
mosquitoes, which transmit the malaria parasite into the
bloodstream."
2. Sourajyoti

MALARIA IS AN INFECTION MAINLY
CAUSED BY A PARASITE (SPECIES)-
PLASMODIUM
Single-cell Parasite
Plasmodium
Plasmodium
enters into female
mosquitoes Body
Once Plasmodium
enters into the blood
stream it infects and
destroys Liver Cells
and Red Blood Cells
Death
Liver cells and
RBC

MALARIA MAINLY AFFECTS
1. Malaria mainly affects tropical and subtropical regions around the world.
2. It disproportionately impacts vulnerable populations, including children and pregnant women.
3. Malaria can lead to severe anemia, organ failure, and death if not promptly treated.
4. The burden of malaria is exacerbated by factors such as poverty, lack of access to healthcare, and limited
resources for prevention and control measures.
4. Sourajyoti

PLASMODIUM SPECIES
The five deadly Plasmodium species that cause malaria
are:
1. Plasmodium falciparum
2. Plasmodium vivax
3. Plasmodium malariae
4. Plasmodium ovale
5. Plasmodium knowlesi

SICKLE CELL ANEMIA PATIENTS
THALASSEMIA
THEY HAVE NATURAL SELECTION OF

Plasmodium in its development
stages called Sporozoite, Present
in Mosquito’s Salivary Gland
• Sporozoites enter intro the human
blood stream and spread, Sporozoites
starts their reproduction to increase
their numbers.
• This Reproduction process is called as
Schizogony

Healthy Liver is Infected
By Plasmodium Species
over the next 2-3 weeks
P. Falciparum
P. Malaria
P. Knowlesi
Here the Sporozoite
Converted to Mature
Merozoites
And This process is
happened in Liver
P. Vivax
P. Ovale
Over a months to Years
it’s Becomes in sleeping
or dormant phase
These are called as
Hypnozoites
They snooze before
infections starts

Merozoites comes into blood
stream from infected liver. Then,
binds to RBC surface receptors
P. Falciparum and P. Ovale
Infect the Red blood cells of
All Ages.
P. Vivax only infect the
young immature RBCs
(Reticulocytes)
P. Malariae and P.
knowlesi
Attacks older RBCs

ERYTHROCYTIC PHASE OF PLASMODIUM
• When Merozoite enter into the RBCs It
under Asexual reproduction.
• It lasts more than 3 days
Stage 1
Ring from Trophozoite is
formed
Stage 3
Grows by digestion of
Hemoglobin, and
Hemozoin
Stage 2
Ring from Trophozoite
become late Trophozoite

At Stage 3
• This Replicating parasites called
Schizonts
• This is called actual Replicating
Phase of Plasmodium Parasites in
RBCs.
This Schizonts are different into
Merozoites into the RBCs
Merozoites into the RBCs replicated
And rupture the RBC and release
out into the blood stream

TREATMENT OF MALARIA
Suspected Case of Malaria
↓
Confirm Diagnosis through Blood Test (Microscopy or Rapid Diagnostic Test)
↓
Identify Malaria Species (Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, etc.)
↓
Assess Severity of Infection and Patient's Clinical Status
↓
Initiate Antimalarial Treatment:
- Uncomplicated Malaria:
- Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy (ACT) like Artemether-
Lumefantrine, Artesunate-Amodiaquine, etc.
- Severe Malaria:
- Intravenous Artesunate (preferred) or Quinine, depending on drug
availability and patient condition
- Supportive care including fluids, electrolyte management, and blood
transfusion if necessary
- Special Cases (e.g., Pregnant women, children, patients with
comorbidities):
- Individualized treatment based on guidelines and patient factors
Monitor Patient's Response to Treatment:
- Clinical improvement
- Parasite clearance
↓
Consider Additional Investigations if needed (e.g., Complete Blood Count,
Biochemistry tests)
↓
Provide Supportive Care and Management of Complications as necessary
↓
Follow-up Assessments:
- Monitor for recurrence
- Evaluate for drug resistance
↓
End of treatment
