MAKING THE MOST OF GOOGLE+
BUT WHAT IS IT?
?
EH?
THEY KEEP CHANGING!
GOOGLE + PROFILE
GOOGLE PLUS PROFILE
• You used to get a Google Plus Profile if you had a Gmail Account
• You use your profile to login to your brand accounts
• Google+ is chopping off its limbs: Hangouts, Photos and Streams are all going solo.
• If you’re an individual (like a freelancer) you might only want a Google Plus Profile.
• Google indexes both your Google+ profile information (meaning people can easily find you) and the content in your post.
In comparison depending on privacy settings, Google only indexes Facebook’s profile information, not the content of
individual posts.
AUTHORSHIP IS STILL LINGERING AROUND

REVIEWS
• Encourage people to
leave reviews
• Much more likely to click
on listing with reviews
• Don’t try and obtain lots
of reviews on all in one
day

GOOGLE MY BUSINESS TIPS
• Make sure ALL the details are there, correct and match your website:
• NAPOLP & be consistent
(Name, Address, Phone Number, Opening Hours, Logo, Profiles – social)
• Verify local pages with call from Google or Postcard
• Claim your custom URL (10 follows, 30 days old)
• Ask for reviews
GOOGLE+ POSTING
HOW TO
MAKING THE MOST OF GOOGLE+
• Posts on G+ act like mini blog posts
• Use a headline that people will want to click on and that is more
likely to answer a search query
• ALWAYS use an image, gif or video
• Don’t be afraid of writing longer posts
• Be specific who you share with
• Use Hashtags
Share with specific people
(don’t abuse this or it will become spammy)
@NoisyMonkey @Tashsb
CIRCLES… meh
• Circles are also used to determine
who you share information with
outside of communities.

Making The Most of Google Plus

Making The Most of Google Plus

Editor's Notes

  • #5 “demonstrate how your business might be missing out if you are not using Google+.  All you ever wanted to know and more about the little brother of social media that is growing up fast.” https://ello.co/dredmorbius/post/nAya9WqdemIoVuVWVOYQUQ
  • #6 Google+ isn't so much a social media platform like Twitter and Facebook (though it tried really hard),
  • #7 It’s an identity platform that works with Google to connect across all our different devices and web services
  • #8 Google prioritises fresh, relevant content in search results, especially from their own platform
  • #9 Easiest place to measure trust., authority and contribute to the Knowledge Graph This is what google said about itself 2 years ago The Knowledge Graph is a knowledge base used by Google to enhance its search engine's search results with information gathered from a wide variety of sources.
  • #11 YOUR G+ FOLLOWERS WILL SEE YOUR POSTS IN SERPS (SEARCH ENGINE RESULTS PAGE) Easiest place to measure trust., authority and contribute to the Knowledge Graph https://www.flickr.com/photos/auspices/14892685406/sizes/l
  • #14 Google for local business has been through a number of different guises – but they all relate to the same thing
  • #18 As an example: Rand fishkin has a google plus profile but co-founded and works for Moz
  • #19 Google says it will continue showing Google+ posts from friends and pages (when they’re relevant to your query) in the main search results and on the right-hand side. Those wishing that Google would finally get rid of Google+ from its main product are out of luck. http://thenextweb.com/google/2014/08/28/google-stops-showing-authorship-search-results-will-still-include-google-posts-friends-pages/
  • #20 https://developers.google.com/structured-data/customize/social-profiles
  • #22 We have now merged these 2 pages so we focus only on our local page to enhance local search. If you don’t have a storefront business or service area business (if you go to your customers in a specific service area) - you will need a brand page. Multiple people can manage a Brand Page (but only one owner)
  • #24 If your brand profile is verified and marked up properly your Google Plus posts will appear in Google and help you dominate branded search.
  • #25 It helps you to connect with your friends, fans and customers. It provides Google with information that we can use to help determine the relevance of your website to a user query on Google Search.
  • #28 Replaced Google Local, which replaced Google Places for Business Using a Google My Business Page will help enhance local search results Multiple people can manage a Business Page (but only one owner) Not always pulled from Google Plus
  • #29 they will be pulled from other sources (Trip advisor, yelp, scoot, foursquare) but also need some from G+ - tricky because you can’t incentivise people to leave a review (ok to ask but not give anything in return) and they need to be from people who normally leave reviews rather than having loads from unknown users. Google uses reviews as a trust indicator so they are an important part of reputation management. [ %] of people trust online reviews. They are shown by stars in search results which draw the eye and encourage the click
  • #30 Someone might set one up on your behalf. Turtle Bay have set one up. But isn’t verified etc. You or someone in the marketing department might have set one up ages ago and forgotten how to login so then you’ll have to claim etc.)
  • #34 Think of Facebook when you only share with close friends.
  • #35 Don’t be afraid of joining communities, especially for industries that appear dull. Engineering is one of the most used topics on G+ STEM Growing your audience is hard try posting in a community- great for meaningful discussions
  • #36 Use bold, underline and bullets to make your post stand out
  • #37 Get verified be prolific
  • #38 Get verified Be prolific. Be visual
  • #39 Just do a lot, doesn’t have to be amazing
  • #40 As a social media channel, it isn’t a priority but if you’re sharing content, repurpose it. (recycle)
  • #41 http://www.thepoke.co.uk/2011/05/05/joan-collins-to-remake-the-bitch/
