The document discusses the layout and design of three different magazine covers promoting films. For the first cover, the main film image is placed above the magazine name, suggesting the film is important. A simple color scheme and hidden details draw focus to the main story. The second cover features two characters and promotes getting free items with the magazine. Costume choices indicate the characters' roles. The third cover stands out with its use of only three colors and one large image. Text about other films is less prominent to focus on the main piece. Discrete details and a modified sales line fit the style of the featured film.
Bindinc. 40 jaar Mikrogids televisiekijkenBindinc.

2. The layout of this cover is reasonably
simple but fairly striking. The fact that the
main image is actually positioned on top of
the magazines name suggests that the film
is a big deal, and the film’s title is in a text
that is just as bold as the magazine
heading. The cover does have stories on
other films around it which is important
and text about other stories but the main
image definitely imposes itself over these.
I do like the way that the magazine makes
the main story seem more important than
itself, however I believe that this is only
achievable as they are a large scale
magazine. I really like the fact that they
have used a simple colour scheme
consisting of just 4 colours
(black, white, yellow and red). The
magazine also contains all the essential
details (e.g. dateline barcode etc.) but the
dateline in particular is almost hidden (over
the M) so no focus is pulled from the main
story.
3. The layout of this cover is similar in many
ways to the previous but is focused on two
people as appose to one main character. It
also includes the idea of getting free stuff
with the magazine s an extra incentive. The
costume choice for the two characters also
quite clearly displays their role within this
film which is important. Another key thing
which occurs in both is the name of the big
actors that are involved.
I like the way that the cover as shown the
two sides in the story and this is something
that I would like to incorporate. They use
different colour text and give a very basic
backstory almost to both characters. I also
like the fact that this cover advertises other
films and stories purely in text as not to
take away any focus from the main
story/film. I am undecided on whether I
prefer an effect or a diegetic background
behind the characters.
4. The layout of this cover is really striking, I
believe that a lot of this is down to the fact
that they have only three colours and one
image on the entire page. It is also helped
by the fact that the name of the magazine
continues the diegetic styled background.
The film appears to be such a big deal that
the text in regard to other films are put in a
quite recessive colour.
I think that the way that the only other
stories reasonably focused on are actually
in relation to or adjacent to “inception” as
a film with reference to mind blowing. The
other interesting thing is that the date line
is again very discrete and that they have
changed their own selling line to fit with
the style of their main piece/article. The
other different feature is that the main
character is only partially lit which gives
the reader an immediate feel for the film
possibly being a bit sinister or at least the
character.
