1. Question 2: How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
2. Themes:
• The theme of our music video is love and a break-up after a big love.
This music video is based on memories and flashbacks with the main
artist and the female actor which is the girl that the main artist loves
and wants her back.
We shot in the TV studio. We used high key lighting to
create a shadow effect on the artist. The shadow
effect means that the past is still with him and that he
was happy with the girl he was with before. Justin
Bieber’s ‘Where are U now’ has a shadow effect also,
his music video has a lot of high key and also low key
lighting because there is a lot of different lighting and
images which are shown in the music video. Our
theme of love and separation allows the artist to look
into their personal experience within love, this then
makes the music video and the artist look natural. We
shoot some parts in the TV studio which made our
shot look professional.
3. Themes: Digipack• For the digipack the theme is kept the same. In the music video we had a lot of
love and depressing theme, this is also used in the digipack. The emotions in
the music video is also used in the shooting for the digipack. On the CD we have
a shot of the artist’s hand with the ring in his hand. This is a key part in the
music video as it shows the break-up the main artist and the female artist are
having. After the scene when the female actor gives the ring back to the main
artist we see clear emotions of anger, sadness, and depression from the artist,
this is the main reason to why this part was important and why I have decided
to use it on the CD as a symbol of his love. We’ve shot the photography studio
this made our shots look professional and also we used a black background
because in our music video we had parts of the artist in a black background,
this presents his depression. The colour scheme of my digipack is grey, white
and red. The grey presents the depression as it is a dark colour, the red presents
the love and the white presents the purity.
4. Case Studies
• Looking at my case studies for my digipack in Rihanna’s Loud album
digipack there is a clear link with the theme of the album and also her
music video of ‘Only Girl In The World’. The colour scheme is red and
pink which is meaning of love. There are also images of flowers which is
used throughout the digipack. We have similarities with my digipack and
my case study.
5. Location:
• Greenwich Park, the main reason we decided to use this location was because it
makes the shoot natural as a normal day.
• We also shot in Leyton Sixth Form College TV Studio, this allowed us to have a
music professional environment as there was the lighting and the seriousness in
the shot.
• We also shot in H. Samuel jewellery store. The jewellery store shows the
seriousness of the artist with wanting to buy her a ring.
• Costa Café is another location this place is a typical place to go and sit with
people. The decision we made to shot here was to make the scene look as a day
they spent to talk with each other.
6. Font/ Lettering
• The font we used was Castellar the reason why we used this font was
because it is big and clear which I feel like the digipack is clear. In the
front cover when I put the artist name and I erased some of the
lettering because I wanted the image of the artist to be shown
because of his facial expression which shows his emotions.
