1. Nikiforos Lytras

Place of birth: Panormos, Tinos
A few words about his life:
Nikiforos Lytras was born in 1832 in Tinos and died in 1904 in Athens at
the age of 72. He was one of the biggest painters and teachers of
painting of the 19th century. We mustn’t also forget that he was one of
the most important representatives of the Munich School and a pioneer
in the formation teaching Fine Arts in Greece. Furthermore, Nikiforos
Lytras had covered the ¾ of the first century in the Greek Renaissance.
A few words about his
work:
In 1903, he was awarded the Golden Savior Cross
medal, posthumously, in 1909, his work was
presented in the exhibition “Pilot’s School”. In 1933 a
big retrospective exhibition took place at the
Superior School of Fine Arts with 186 of his paintings.
Some of his work: Self-portrait, carols (1872), the
arson, of the Turkish armada, the Return from the
Penteli Fair and waiting.
