MCX Deployment Checklist

• Introduced via CU4 and mobility web service
  (MCXStandalone.msi) – both components are
  deployed on Lync Front End(s)
• Mobile clients require new Autodiscover URLs
  (lyncdiscoverinternal.<SIPFQDN> and
  lyncdiscover.<SIPFQDN>)
• Client connection can be made over HTTP or HTTPS (HTTPS is recommended
but additional PKI costs may apply)
• Reverse Proxy rule is also required for redirection to the Lync External Web
  Service
• Edge Server Federation with push.lync.com is required for push notifications
  (iOS and WP7 devices only)

Show of Hands?

• Heard of ?

• Made a call over 3G?
      – Was it a good experience?
• Made a call over Wi-Fi?
      – Was it a good experience?

Why Call-via-work is good for you! 

• Lync is enterprise technology (not
Skype) and the expectation is for a VoIP? PSTN?
  consistent good quality experience
    – Private Wi-Fi or WAPs that support
VoIP QoS are often cost prohibitive
      and potentially outweigh the benefit
      of PSTN
    – public Wi-Fi is often unavailable and
      over-subscribed
    – 3G is equally, if not more so, unreliable
and often more expressive than PSTN
• Voice (and video) over IP for mobile
will undoubtedly become a standard in
the near future, but not without
  improvements to public network
  infrastructure
