Level 2 Proficiency: White Balance
     Are your whites “white” enough in your shots? If not, perhaps the AWB or automatic white balance is
simply not doing the job. I want you to experiment with the different types of white balancing features on the
digital SLR.


Step 1: Review with teacher before you shoot



        o   How to change your white balance settings
        o   What settings work best where


Step 2: Shooting



        •   Set your camera to “P”
        •   Set ISO for 100 outside and 200 or 400 indoor
        •   Shoot 2 shots for EACH---one with AWB (auto white balance) and again on setting
                    1. Outside sunshine OR cloudy (depends on weather!) – SHALLOW DOF
                    2. Outside sunshine or cloudy – DEEP DOF
                    3. Outside shaded area – LOW ANGLE
                    4. Outside shaded area – SHALLOW DOF
                    5. Outside – your choice
                    6. Outside – your choice
                    7. Inside fluorescent light – HIGH ANGLE
                    8. Inside fluorescent light – SUBJECT POSITIONING
                    9. Inside – your choice
                    10. Inside – your choice
                    11. Inside with FLASH on flash setting – LOW ANGLE
                    12. Inside with FLASH on flash setting – CLOSE UP PORTRAIT OF PARTNER
