INTRODUCTION
Grupo Vinícola Marqués de Vargas S.L. is a business venture that began in 1989 with the creation of the prestigious winery Bodega Marqués de Vargas, in Rioja.
Afterwards, the Group had acquired Wineries in other highly prestigious regions, and currently has a strong presence in 3 wines regions in Spain:
1) Marqués de Vargas – D.O.Ca Rioja
2) Conde de San Cristóbal – D.O. Ribera del Duero
3) Pazo San Mauro – D.O. Rias Baixas
Since the establishment of our first winery, we have maintained our internal philosophy of attaining utmost quality, centered on a maxim of continual improvement.
All of our wines are produced exclusively of grapes grown on the vineyard properties that comprise the Group’s holdings, allowing us to be involved in an integral
project, from the vine to the bottle.
The Group’s wines stand out for their superb balance of traditional values and the most advanced technological artistry of modern oenology.

The Cellar, Marqués de Vargas, from Rioja Alta, is exceptional.
It was in 1840 when Felipe de Mata, the eighth Marqués de Vargas, planted the first vines in
the outskirts of Logroño.
Especially memorable was Hilario de la Mata, the father of the current Marqués de Vargas,
who for years presided over one of the most emblematic wineries in Rioja.
In 1989, Pelayo de la Mata, the current Marqués de Vargas, realized his father’s dream by
building a winery on the Estate Hacienda Pradolagar in Logroño.
Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Baja. Rioja Alta is expanded over 19.000 Ha. of vineyards.
Our winery is located in Rioja Alta, to the east of Logroño, where the Tempranillo grape is the
most noteworthy.
The region enjoys an extreme Atlantic continental climate and the vineyards extend over
calcareous-clayey soils. The wines that are made in this region are balanced red wines,
especially recommended for barrel ageing, full-bodied and high acidity.

Vintage report
Low temperatures during the winter allow to the vines an excellent vegetative rest. The spring was then pleasantly mild with low rainfall what helped to an
adequate flowering period. Warm and dry summer, at the end of the growing season, enabled the fruit to reach a perfect ripening with grapes retaining good
acidity & grade and being harvested in outstanding sanitary conditions.
Tasting notes
A complex nose reflects the intensity of ripe stone fruit as peach, apricot and loquat together with subtle floral hues and balsamic notes. The quality of this
wine is completed with full, meaty and velvety flavour, great structure and long, lingering finish.
