Malaysia s Alternative Strategy Essay examples
[MALAYSIA S ALTERNATIVE STRATEGY]
Introduction The 1997 Asian Financial Crisis drew attention to just how fragile our global
economic system can become either when overexposed to foreign market intervention, or when
underperformance remains unchecked. Prior to June 1997, The Republic of Korea encountered
issues as 10 of its 30 top performing chaebol (Conglomerate) collapsed underneath debt which far
exceeded their respective equities. Korean steel production giant Hanbo faced additional stress
after amassing a $4.39 billion debt for one new steel mill. Kia Motors fell due to accruing almost
$2.1 billion in loans that was awarded on the basis of need, as opposed to independent judgment of

Asian Financial Crisis Neighboring Countries
Neighbor South Korea dealt with economic uncertainty leading up to the 1997 currency crisis
which plagued Thailand. South Korean chaebols or conglomerates were recording record debt
levels between 1996 and 1997. Banking policies enacted by President, or Dictator, Park during the
late 80 s constructed an economic environment whereby loans to chaebols were issued on the basis
of company need, as opposed to individual judgment on part of the loan issuing authority. In more
succinct terms, nationalized banks issues loans to chaebols without verifying whether the company
could pay the loan bank, or whether the interest rates were reasonable, or even whether the
company s venture had enough collateral to back it up. In essence, chaebols were tasked with
repaying loans that they might not have the appropriate level of capital for. Therefore, on the eve
of the Asian Financial Crisis, chaebols such as Hanbo Steel, and others, were closing their doors
due to debt burdens incurred without a proper foundation for capital generation.

Debra Actus Reus Of Murder
LL4002 Criminal Law,Feb.Start
Though there is no definite definition of Murder but according to Lord Justice Coke, is the
unlawful killing of a reasonable creature in rerum natura under the King s peace, with malice
aforethought...
The prosecution would be able to prove Debra committed the actus reus of murder by causing
grievous bodily harm. In this question, Debra inflicts unlawful harm by slamming the frying pan
on Viktor s head, which is the actus reus of murder. Debra has factual and legal cause of Viktor s
death. But for her actions, he would not have died in (White [1910]2, KB 124). Her actions were
operating and substantial cause of his death (Smith [1959]2, QB 35). Debra is legally liable for the

long term anxiety and stress disorder which she is receiving treatment from her GP and a

Examples Of Love In The Outsiders
Hannah Slish English Period 11 12/12/17 Love, Support, and Care Teenagers can t be thrown
around and not be seen. Being ignored can cause a teen to feel unstable, not loved, rebellious
and many other things along with those examples. In the novel, The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton,
they re kids who suffer in being ignored. It s just not right to throw them around like dolls!
Therefore if a teenager is ignored or not loved, they may start acting unstable as a result of such
abuse. The character Johnny Cade wanted to kill himself because of his parents ignoring him
and fighting with each other. Being pushed around, hit, and ignored enough to want to kill
yourself is too far. I think I like it better when the old man s hitting me. (ch 3) It s sad to hear a
kid the age of sixteen prefer getting beat by his own father just to know that he s there. Johnny

Social Security Trust Vs. Privatization
Social Security Trust v. Privatization
Debates over Social Security have been ongoing since its inception in 1935 until today. The trend
seems to be toward an increasing percentage of the American public, across party and demographic
lines, in favor of strengthening Social Security funding, and a willingness to pay more to preserve
and even improve benefits. However, the trend towards privatization of Social Security is also on
the rise. What is not clear is whether Americans favor privatization because of fears that the Social
Security Trust Fund is living on borrowed time.
The Social Security Act (SSA) of 1935 was drafted during the Great Depression as part of President
Franklin D. Roosevelt s New Deal. The SSA was an attempt to ... Show more content on

In 1965, Congress expanded the system to include Medicare, which provides both hospital and
physician coverage to the elderly and disabled. In 2003, Congress added a prescription drug
benefit to Medicare (Edwards 431, 540). Since the Social Security Act was signed into law, many
politicians have advocated for privatizing Social Security, even though Americans are in favor of
Social Security and wish to strengthen the program.
The American public strongly supports Social Security, across party and demographic lines. A
January 2013, National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) study, Strengthening Social
Security: What Do Americans Want?, found that Americans overwhelmingly support Social
Security and are willing to pay more to preserve and improve benefits. With more than 59
million or 18% of Americans receiving Social Security benefits, Americans recognize Social
Security as a critical program. A large majority of Americans say they do not mind paying Social
Security taxes because of the stability and security the benefits provide. These findings hold true
across party lines, those polled included 87% of Democrats, 72% of Republicans, and 81% of
Independents. 73% of Americans are also willing to pay for Social Security because they value it
for themselves and their families. 85% of Americans say Social Security is more important than
ever to ensure that the elderly and disabled have dependable income. These views cut across

Abstract
This article provides a brief introduction to behavioral finance. Behavioral finance encompasses
research that drops the traditional assumptions of expected utility maximization with rational
investors in efficient markets. The two building blocks of behavioral finance are cognitive
psychology (how people think) and the limits to arbitrage (when markets will be inefficient).
The growth of behavioral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is especially true when one is dealing with a large market, such as the Japanese stock market in
the late 1980s or the U.S. market for technology stocks in the late 1990s. Arbitrageurs that
attempted to short Japanese stocks in mid1987 and hedge by going long in U.S. stocks were right
in the long run, but they lost huge amounts of money in October 1987 when the U.S. market
crashed by more than the Japanese market (because of Japanese government intervention). If the
arbitrageurs have limited funds, they would be forced to cover their positions just when the relative
misvaluations were greatest, resulting in additional buying pressure for Japanese stocks just when
they were most overvalued!
2. Cognitive Biases
Cognitive psychologists have documented many patterns regarding how people behave.
Some of these patterns are as follows:
Heuristics
Heuristics, or rules of thumb, make decision making easier. But they can sometimes lead to biases,
especially when things change. These can lead to suboptimal investment decisions.
When faced with N choices for how to invest retirement money, many people allocate using the
1/N rule. If there are three funds, one third goes into each. If two are stock funds, two thirds goes
into equities. If one of the three

Hinduism has gone through the evolution as well. Influences of Islam and Christianity can be seen
in the Hinduism due to India being invaded by Muslims and British Colonist. Some of the religious
belief and practices have been changed or stop practicing over the period of time. This paper will
mainly highlight the changes since Islamic until the British colonial India. Hinduismwas fading

In addition, child marriage started to become more common as well. Often Muslim rulers and
officials kidnapped Hindu girls. Due to the kidnapping of the Hindu girls, their parent had to
practice child marriage. According to the history of India, It was emphasized that the proper age
for the marriage of girls was seven and that marriage after the age of eleven or twelve was sinful.
Just like the influence of Muslim on Hindu, Christianity also has huge impact on a Hindu society.
The British Colonization of India had many effects on these beliefs. These effects ranged from a
different use of the Caste System and how it was practiced, or, on a larger scale where many
Hindus converted due to the many circumstances surrounding the conversion (Unknown, 2016) .
Caste system plays a huge role in Hinduism. There are mainly four caste The Brahmans, usually
priests and scholars, are at the top. Next are the Kshatriyas, or political rulers and soldiers. They are
followed by the Vaishyas, or merchants, and the fourth are the Shudras, who are usually laborers,

Persuasive Essay On Tarantulas

This is often because they simply do not know that what they are trying to do have already been
done by elsewhere. They do not know what is already known, or they do not know where to access
the knowledge. Continually reinventing the wheel is such a costly and inefficient activity, whereas
a more systematic reuse of knowledge will show substantial cost benefits immediately
But as well as reducing costs, effective knowledge management should also dramatically increase
our speed of response as a direct result of better knowledge access and application.
Effective knowledge management, using more collective and systematic processes, will also reduce
our tendency to repeat the same mistakes . This is, again, extremely costly and inefficient. Effective
knowledge management, therefore, can dramatically improve quality of products and/or services.
Better knowing the stakeholder needs, customer needs, employee needs, industry needs, for
example, has an obvious immediate effect on the relationship management.
The Knowledge Economy is the next booming economy in a world of recession. More individuals,
teams, organizations and inter organizational networks will be restructuring and renewing
themselves with the primary purpose of profitably trading their knowledge to add even higher
value, predominantly on the World Wide Web.
Already we see more enlightened organizations developing and applying the knowledge they

To What Extent Is Csr Beneficial to a Company s Performance
To What Extent is CSR Beneficial to a Company s Performance?
Corporate social responsibility (CSR), which is a popular debate topic over decades, has divided
into five major dimensions over time. They are known as the stakeholder dimension, the social
dimension, the economic dimension, the voluntariness dimension and the environmental dimension
in research (Dahlsrud, 2008). The relationship between CSR and company s performance, which is
classified as the stakeholder dimension, aroused a controversial discussion among different
research studies. Some research reported positive relationship in CSR and company s performance
(Mirvis, 2012), some research found negative results (Karnani, 2010), while there are also other

In this way, those impact brought by those omitted aspects would be included in the CSR s
relationship with company s performance by mistake.
Despite the influence of omitted factors, CSR neither benefit nor harm company s performance.
For those cases reported positive relationship above, they are very likely to be the result of a good
marketing strategy and aggressive advertisement (for restaurant and airlines), successful
management (for employees willingness to work in a responsible company), an efficient R
amp;D and politic strategies (for DuPont s case), etc. However, research reaching a negative
relationship can also be blamed to other stuffs related to CSR, rather than CSR itself. For
example, the agency problem appears when there s a conflict between company s goal and the
agent s personal goal, not only in CSR; and the profit issue is just a matter of choice. Thus, while
measuring CSR s influence on company s performance, we should first identify or select the
dimensions of corporate social responsibility (Ruf, 1998, as cited in Foote, Gaffney, amp;Evans,
2010). Nothing can we truly measure before a clear identification. After a clear identification, we
will be able to figure out whether it is the impact brought by CSR, and therefore eliminate the
interference from R amp;D, advertising, or political efforts, etc.
It s not simply

The Portrayal Of Mental Illness
The portrayal of mental illness to the public has a very important part in the discovery,
understanding and treatment of them. Common misconceptions and assumptions can be damaging
to people with such illnesses by the development of social stigmas and creation of outcasts in
situations where support is needed. In modern times communication to the public about mental
illness comes in a variety of ways, some accurate and some not. Movies are an example of a
medium which has high potential for erroneous depictions of these and are also widely publicised.
This essay will look at the movie The BourneIdentity (Liman, 2002) and whether or not the
depiction of mental illness in the protagonist has accuracy, or is an example of misinformation
about the reality which many people suffer through. The movie begins with a fishing boat
picking up a man out of the water in a storm off the coast of southern France. They treat his
wounds and as he regains consciousness it becomes apparent he has no idea of who he is or
anything about himself. The only clue to his identity is a device found under his skin which has
the number for a safety deposit box in Zurich. He leaves the boat and a travel there to find out
the box is full of passports, thousands of dollars and a gun. The American passport says his name
is Jason Bourne. He quickly discovers that the authorities are trying to catch him and he escapes
the bank. Through all these events it is clear Bourne is an expert fighter, very good at

My First Field Experience At Milton Union High School

Syllabi Paper
I am new to the profession of education, but where I lack in experience I make up for it when it
comes to my enthusiasm and willingness to learn more. My first field experience was at Milton
Union high school, and it was also the most scared I ve ever been in the classroom. However,
when I went to Stivers School for the Arts things got even better I felt more prepared. This year I
m back at Stivers and so far everything has been good, and I really enjoy working with my
cooperating teacher. This year will be a test of my endurance and capabilities. I am up to the
challenge to work with students who are linguistically diverse, even though I know it might be
difficult at times. Studying Spanish for six years half in high school and college have given me
an idea of how disorienting it is to not understand the language. Not only is it disorienting it is also
very challenging, because languages are all unique in vocabulary and grammar structure. These
experiences will become of aid to me when I m working with ESL students in the classroom. One
thing that I am excited about in the syllabi is the Socratic Seminars on page three. We will be
having one seminar each time we meet for class over the readings that we had for homework the
previous week. I am excited for these seminars, because I appreciate the opportunity to be able to
discuss with my peers about what I am reading. It gives me a time to ask questions for further
clarification, or to share

Describe The Color Blue
When I see the color blue, I think of my pale blue, stuffed bunny that I got when I was three
years old. I named him Blue Sky after the huge expanse of pale blue that loomed over my head
as I played outside and blew bubbles in my backyard on warm summer days. I wanted him to
become my new playmate, looking up at the clouds with me as I found shapes in them and
marvled at the cloudy trails left by airplanes. My earliest memories are filled with the colorblue. It
was the color of my first glasses, my favorite toy, and the best slide on the playground across the
street from my house, all seemingly simple objects that my young mind grasped onto in a way that
made them monumental. These things made up my entire world at a time when I was completely
carefree, my mind full of wonder when experiencing even the simplest things. I still think back to
my early childhood sometimes when I look up at the sky on a cloudless day, and it reminds me to
stop and appreciate the little things sometimes when the world starts to feel overwhelming.... Show

Cellulite Essay
Although the causes of cellulite are not as understood as the removal of cellulite, it appears to be
more prevalent in women, which points to hormonal factors as a high influence. Cellulite is the
occurrence of bumpy fat deposits under the skin. It gives the appearance of lumps or dimples,
usually in the hips, thighs and buttocks.
What Causes Cellulite?
Cellulite is caused by the underlying fat deposits raising up to become visible through the skin.
Everyone has fat deposits in their body, but cellulite results from the collagen and connective tissue
becoming weak and allowing the fat to the surface where it causes a bumpy texture.

Creams
Anti cellulite creams work by narrowing the blood vessels in the impacted areas. They also remove
water from the skin, which can temporarily reduce the appearance of bumps and lumps. While the
creams seems to work for a limited amount of time, they can cause allergic reactions in some
patients.
Injections
Often the same ingredients in the creams are injected into the skin for a quicker and more
noticeable result. They are meant to tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of bumps. They can
work faster and have a longer effect on the skin.
Massages
There are many massages that can help the appearance of cellulite. Spas have been known to have

to put him for adoption. The description he gave of his mother almost sounds like he feels
indifferent about her. After a series of issues with the adoption, his biological mother finally
convinced a couple that he will go to college one day. Going back to Jobs dropping out of Reed
college after six months, jobs mentioned in his speech that he did not see the value in going to
college and that he have no idea how college was going to help him figure out what he wanted to

best decisions and soon after began taking classes that looked interesting to him. It was not all
glamorous because he slept at a friends place on the floor and had to walk seven miles to get a

Lee Harvey s Assassination Research Paper
Lee Harvey Oswald was accused of assassinating John F. Kennedy. John F. Kennedy was
assassinated on November 22, 1963. Later that day a policeman addressed Harvey about the
shooting, because he matched the description of the suspect but was then shot and killed by
Harvey. On the same day, Harvey was arrested for the murders of both the president and the
policeman. Two days later, during a jail transfer to a maximum security cell, Lee Harvey Oswald
was shot. There were people lined up on the sides of the jail during his transfer to see him and the
gun that he used, but while he was walking to the truck to take him to the new jail, Jack Ruby a
nightclub owner murdered him. Assassinations occur for many reasons, Lee Harvey Oswald s

A clear majority of voters (61%) would choose a punishment other than the death penalty for
murder (Death Penalty Information Center). This comes from DPIC, they released this
information in 2010 about the viewpoints of people about the death penalty. According to this
statistic, more than half of the people think there should be no death penalty. Therefore, Jack
Ruby s killing of Lee Harvey Oswald was not justified since the assassination is the same as the
death penalty. The killing of a President is wrong, in fact, the killing of anyone is wrong. The
majority of people liked John F. Kennedy as a President. For example, he handled the Cuban
Missile Crisis. Since he was a very popular President, his assassination was devastating to so many
Americans. Even though John F. Kennedy is the President, he is still a person. Lee Harvey Oswald
similarly is still a person even though he did something devastating. Therefore, both of the

Persuasive Essay On Xenotransplantation
Xenotransplantation is a controversial medical procedure that has been debated by medical ethicists
for many years. Xenotransplantation or Xeno is defined as the short term transplantation of animal
tissues into a human. It has been argued that the procedure is unethical because of the use of animal
organs. However, twenty two people die each day waiting for an organ transplant, so we must act
soon to save the thousands of lives that are still waiting. Xenotransplantation is a highly debatable
procedure and offers a unique solution to the ever growing organ transplant list, making it a viable
and worthwhile procedure.
A famous example of Xenotransplantation in the making is the case of Baby Fae. Born with a
congenital heart defect, Baby Fae was the first infant that received a baboon heart through
xenotransplantation. Although the transplant itself was successful, Baby Fae later died due to
rejection of the heart. Despite her death, Baby Fae lived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He claims Xenotransplantation should still be given serious thought because of its potential to
alleviate the organ shortage crisis and ultimately improve the human condition (Sharma 25).
However, Sharma also gives some insight as to why doctors should be cautious when taking Xeno
to the next step. He states that Violent immune responses have been known to occur in individuals
where an incompatible organ has been placed in a host, with death being known to occur in a
matter of hours (27). Sharma s statement raises thought of the possible risks associated with
transplantation. One of the risks is hyper acute rejection, where the recipient s immune system
quickly identifies the animal organ as a foreign entity and attacks it (27). Despite the risks being
great, people considering xenotransplantation often have no other

Electric Vehicles Vs. Gasoline Vehicles Essay
Materials and Methods Source #1 In the first article, Electric Vehicles vs Gasoline Vehicles: A
Cost and Emissions Comparison, the cost and GHG emissions of plug in hybrid electric
vehicles (PHEV), electric vehicles (EVs), and standard gasoline cars were compared. All the
numbers used in the research were based on averages in the Midwestern region of the United
States, and was published June 2nd, 2011 at 10:53 a.m. Its goal was to measure how much
better, or worse, any type of electric car is compared to your standard gas car. It also compared
how much it costs you to drive per mile. The source believes hybrid vehicles actually hurt the
environment more than it preserves. To calculate the cost per mile, they took the average power
used for PHEVs per 100 miles, 35 Kwh, and multiplied that by the average cost per Kwh in
residential regions, $0.11. Then, it takes into account the cost to get a charging station at your
home. This really drives up the cost of electric vehicles because it cost $50 to $90 for a
subscription every month. After that, the emissions per mile was calculated for all three cars by
calculating the average. The regional average for hybrid cars 35 Kwh per 100 miles. It also took
into account the regions power plant GHG emissions from natural gas and coal. Source #2 In the
second article, Emissions from Hybrid and Plug In Electric Vehicles, the types of energy used to

Dancer In The Dark And The Piano Analysis
Compare the ways in which Lars von Trier, in Dancer in the Dark, and Jane Campion in The Piano,
explore the idea that hope can be found even in the midst of the most adverse circumstances. In the
film, Dancer in the Dark, and the movie, The Piano, Lars von Trier and Jane Campion respectively
utilise various literary and circumstances. The historical contextual settings of both texts
encapsulate worlds of destruction in which the central female protagonists, Ada Mcgrath and Selma
Jezkova, withstand the understanding between the native Maori people towards the scripted and
sterile play which served as a form of happiness and communal gathering for Victorian Europeans
suggests that different forms of expression such as drama and music often lacks understanding
when compared to reality. Contrastingly, in the musical interludes, von Trier explores the idea that
creativity brings a sense of connection and unity through the use of artificial lighting, saturated
colour palette, non diegetic sound track and head shots and long shots exposing a community
singing, dancing and embracing. The vibrancy and liveliness in these musical scenes directly
contrasts with the raw reduction in the reality scenes and ultimately suggests that musicals create a
hopeful and reconciliatory world where, contrasting Campion s, there is always someone to catch
you when you fall. While creativity provides an escape from harsh reality, both Campion and von

Climate Analysis On Climate Archives
There is significant evidence from studies based on climate archives that the Earth s climate
about 10 000 years ago was very different from the present climate; it has changed a lot since the
last glacial period which ended about 10 000 12 000 years ago (Chappell, 1998). Hence, about
10 000 years ago the Earth was buried under ice sheets and it was much cooler than present
temperatures (see Figure 1, Appendix) (Chappell, 1998). The Earth that has been cycling between
cold and warm climates for ages and is currently in the interglacial period where it has slowly
become warmer along with a rise in sea level (Watts, 2009). There are many climatearchives which

Corals were first discovered about 200 million years, however most have grown over the last 10
000 years. Therefore, corals are great climate archives to use in order to study the climate from
the last 10 000 years. Corals also have a wide array of climatic history stored within them
(Introduction: Coral Reefs, 2015). They have a long lifetime and rapid growth which makes them
ideal climate archives for studying the past climate (Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics,
2015). Along with the corals there is the foraminifera; also referred to as sea floor fossils. These
sea floor fossils are often found in sediment cores and can reveal a variety of things about the past
climate through ocean currents, temperature and oxygen ratios. Also these fossils are the most
common source of paleoceanographic proxies, making them easily available (Kucera, 2007).
Hence, foraminifera or sea floor fossils are an ideal climate archives for studying the past climate
from about 10 000 years ago alongside corals. Information about the past climate can not only help
us understand our present climate but can also help predict our future climate trends.
Corals, which are one of the climate archives been discussed, are living organisms who produce a
calcium carbonate skeleton to make themselves look like rocks. The calcium carbonate bands
found in corals help form permanent records of seasonal and annual climate changes. Corals are a

In this paper, with the help of the advanced automation and information technologies, a new
hydraulic regulation method was proposed to achieve on site hydraulic balance for the district
heating systems with distributed variable speed pumps configuration. The proposed method was
comprised of a new hydraulic model, which was developed to adapt the distributed variable speed
pumps configuration, and a calibration model with genetic algorithm. By carrying out the
proposed method step by step, the flow rates of all distributed pumps can be progressively adjusted
to their designated values. A hypothetic district heating system with 2 heat sources and 10
substations was taken as a case study to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method. Two
scenarios were investigated respectively. In Scenario I, the flow rate of one substation varied
according to its heat demand and the flow rates of other substations maintained their original
values. And in Scenario II, the flow rates of all substations varied synchronously with the same
relative rate. The results of the both scenarios indicated that all pumps could be properly adjusted to
their designated flow rates by the proposed method with a high frequency adjustment resolution as

Modernism In Langston Hughes s The Negro Speaks Of Rivers
Modernism was a philosophical movement that occurred in America and England during the
nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This era is distinguished by the break with traditions of literary
forms, styles, and concepts, giving creation to an assortment of cultural, art, and political
movements. Perhaps nobody took as full of an advantage of the concept of modernismas poets did,
expanding the possibilities of their works to unimaginable lengths. Poets such as Langston Hughes,
William Carlos Williams, Gertrude Stein, and many others employed literary devices to portray
important messages that they often buried in their works. From the use of these literary devices
such as metaphors, imagery, and symbolism these poets were able to portray concepts of race,
class, and gender in the Modernism era. Written at the age of seventeen, The Negro Speaks of
Rivers by Langston Hughes illustrates the historical journey of the African Americanrace to
America (Socarides). By using rivers as a metaphor for the source of life, Hughes outlines the
movement of African American race from the Nile and Euphrates rivers in Africa to the
Mississippi. Hughes subtly expresses his admonition of slavery and racism in the line My soul
has grown deep like the rivers (Line 4). The line first appears in the poem when it follows the

The Relationship Between Sam Spade And The Maltese Falcon...
Both Dashiell Hammett s development of Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon and Dorothy Sayers
development of Harriet Vane in Gaudy Night, leave something to be said about the way British and
American detective novels create their characters in line with different views of life. Whether that
perspective is relative to the time period and country, or just the views of the author, it is clear that
the American hardboilednovel focuses strongly on the self interest of most of the characters, and
the self development of Sam Spade and what his perception of life is. Dorothy Sayers develops
her protagonist Harriet Vane in a similar way. She too is trying to understand her place in the
world and is given the opportunity to do so at Shrewsbury. The two novels contrast either
drastically in plot development and the types of crimes, which influences the character s views of
their own lives.
The Maltese Falcon begins by quickly establishing Sam Spade as a morally complex character
after his affair with his partner s wife, even though he is supposed to be the protagonist. Sam
Spade s opening description as a blond devil let the readers begin to picture his cynicism. Readers
can t expect the normal actions of a protagonist as they can in Gaudy Night. In a sub genre of

INTRODUCTION Over the centuries, the media has played a significant role in the shaping of
societies across the globe. This is especially true of developed nations where media access is

The question then becomes do we need a public broadcaster to enhance democracy? The answer is
yes. Public broadcasting is needed to enhance democracy in Canada because our society depends
heavily on media influence and this influence has increased over the years, it is a platform for
Canadian culture to be represented in the media and it ensures that Canadians receive rich
unbiased information. THE CANADIAN SOCIETY IS INFLUENCED HEAVILY BY THE
MEDIA One of the major reasons that Canada needs public broadcasters to enhance democracy is
because Canadians are heavily influenced by the media. One of the arguments against this notion is
that Canada as a nation has been able to retain democracy before the introduction of media,
according to Attallah (2008) there is no need for public broadcasting because democracy was able
to thrive prior to the introduction of media (p.1). Attallah, however, has neglected the fact that the
Canadian society like every other active society is forever evolving and changing. As we move
into an era where the media plays a major role, it is imperative that our way of thinking about the
society evolves as well. This means that though the nation was able to thrive without public
broadcasting 2000 years ago, this is not the case now. Today s society demands that the media plays
an active part. With the invention of the smart phone and internet, people have ready access to

The Five-High Cost Of The International Space Shuttle
One of the biggest reasons to change where we are exploring is how expensive space travel is.
The regular cost is about $450 million. That is a lot of money and here is the catch, that cost is
only for one launch and there have been about 130 launches. So if you do the math, we have spent
about $58.5 billion on space travel. That is the total cost of all 130 space shuttlelaunches, but there
have also been five strong fleet launches. To build a strong fleet shuttle it takes around $1.7 billion
(Thompson 1). Those costs, though, are only covering all of the shuttles. To build and maintain
over the years, the International Space Stationhas cost a total of about $142 billion. If you think
that is already a lot of money, that amount isn t even adding the missions to get there and back. All
of these costs are very big for the fact that most of it is metal and thrusters that get disconnected
from the ship and left in space (Thompson 1).

If you even get the slightest hole in your suit, you would be deprived of air in seconds thanks to
the vacuum of space. The suits would also have to be made right to withstand the space

Many of these dangers can be avoided if we send robots instead of humans. Another problem that
could be avoided if we sent robots is the danger of moon dust. If you do not brush off your suit
before getting back on the shuttle, the dust can become airborne and when you breathe it in it
will scratch your airways and lungs (ADMIN). The biggest and last danger of space travel is the

Team efficacy
Definition: Team efficacy is defined as the collective belief among team members of the team s
capability to successfully complete a task . Teams are more successful when their members work
together with a collective effort and confidence. High efficacy team means more motivation and
challenge goals set, with an increase of team performance. (McShane Von Glinow, 2015, p. 242).
Summary: In the article Effect of Cohesion on the Curvilinear Relationship Between Team Efficacy
and Performance written by Gully, Kim Park, (2017), the authors mention that in addition to the
research that has supported a linear positive relationship between team efficacy and team
performance, other study has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
242). Also, in my aviation field I have experienced that safety may be jeopardize, when errors are
made due to overconfidence, and been less vigilant. What will be the reason for a team to become
overconfident? Maybe the reason can be found in the team members motivation and because they
believe in their superior capabilities?
Studies have demonstrated that high cohesion effect team efficacy, and that overconfidence might
be experienced because team members are engage in self enhancement such as a cohesive teams.
While I believe that team members should be confident in their duty and in decision making,
check and balance must be in place to prevent potential errors. Efficacy may represents a
confidence that can be an important resource that members can draw on in times of adversity .
(Lvina Maher Harris et al, 2016).
Team members and efficacy are also affected by their organization. The rewards and
accomplishments are very high when the team members have available the necessary resources
from their organization that, will result an in increased in role and extra role performance (Du,
2015).

Kosinski s Being There and the Existential Anti-Hero...
Kosinski s Being There and the Existential Anti Hero
Critics have referred to Kosinski s Being There as his worst novel. Perhaps, Kosinski s prosaic
style is deceptive in its apparent simplicity (especially when contrasted with The Painted Bird).
What Kosinski seeks to do, as Welch D. Everman relates, is to stimulate the reader s recreative and
imaginative task by offering only the essentials...Kosinski s style draws the reader into the incident
by refusing to allow him to remain passive (25). This essay will propose that Being There is a
major existential work following in the tradition of Sartre and Camus in which Chance, the main
protagonist, mirrors Camus s Mersault in A Happy Death and in which Koskinski demonstrates...

Chance has been given his name because he had been born by chance , yet as Everman shows,
this is true of everyone, and so his given name is hardly a name at all....In addition, he loses this
rather tenuous name early in the book... and therefore is without a real name (63).
Furthermore, no one in the book exists without some type of tangible record proving existence.
When Mr. Franklin, the Old Man s executor, interrogates Chance, he seeks commodified proof of
Chance s existence; he asks for, among other items, a checkbook, driver s license, insurance card,
tax forms. Chance, encountering the existential dilemma, the quest for identity, counters: you have
me. I am here. What more proof do you need (18)? Of course, mere existence proves useless and
Chance is excommunicated from his beloved garden. Why does a writer who displays such brilliant
technical skills and prosaic style resort to utilizing such a one dimensional character? Perhaps
Koskinski has simply found the next logical step in the chain of psychological evolution. Yet, rather
than the natural heir to Benji Compson, Chance is, instead, the natural descendent of Patrice
Mersault.
After Nietzsche declared God dead, we spent the next half century in an angst ridden frenzy. Sartre,
Beckett, and Camus best exemplify this condition in their writings. Camus s Mersualt (perhaps the

Why Is Mercl Benz An Innovator
1.Attention getter: According to Forbes, Mercedes Benz is the #16 World Most Valuable Brands.
The founder of Mercedes Benz, Karl Benz, back to 130 years ago when there were only horse
drawn carriage, he pioneered and innovated the first practical automobile powered by an internal
combustion engine at Mannheim. Karl Benz is a very great mechanical engineer during the 19th
century (Bellis. M, 2014).

His persistence of spending years to develop new type of engine is my inspiration for guiding
me not to give up easily especially during hard times. Whenever he failed to build the little gas
engine in the tricycle, or whenever he was about to give up on developing the horseless carriage,
his wife, Bertha is the one who pushed him to continue (Auer, G. 2006). After he finished his
first creation of combustion internal engine which was received a patent in the year of 1879, he
did not give up of his old passion of creating a horseless carriage. In 1886, he finished and granted
a patent for his creation of the horseless carriage vehicle which he named it as Benz Patent
Motorwagen. The car was first driven in Mannheim (Carl Benz Academy, 2011). Besides that,
Karl Benz s motivation of upgrading the specification of Benz Patent Motorwagen is one of the
reasons that really inspired me to learn to improve. When Benz was testing on Motorwagen, it
often attracted many onlookers who laughed mockingly when it crashed against the wall because it
was difficult to control in the beginning of time. After he received the patent on Motorwagen, he
improved and upgraded the Motorwagen to 2nd generation which is Motor 2 and also Motor 3

The Morning After Pill And Teen Birth Rates For Teens
In 2014 there were 24.2 births for every 1,000 adolescent females ages 15 19 or 249,078 born to
this age group. In 1991, the U.S. teen birth rate was 61.8 births for every 1,000 adolescent females,
compared with 24.2 births for every 1,000 adolescent females in 2014. Still, the U.S. teen birth rate
is higher than that of many other developed countries, including Canada and the United Kingdom.

them to have unprotected sex because they think the pill fix everything, this leads to an increase
of sexually transmitted diseases such as Chlamydia and gonorrhea, this can also affect their
education. Teen pregnancy causes may problems but providing the morning after pill as an over

following EC treatment, 13 14% experienced painful menstruation, and 11 12% experienced
nausea . If the pill is easily accessible the more teens are prone to engage in all kinds of sexual

Parallels In King Lear
William Shakespeare, one of the most famous and well credited playwrights in the world, uses
extremely clever and intricate ways to get his lessons across. One of his most clever tactics is the
use of parallels; in King Lear Shakespeare reinforces and extends the theme of [theme] by creating
a sub plot that parallels the main plot. This is evident through the character development of Lear
and Gloucester, as well as the actions of their children. To begin with, Lear and Gloucester parallel
each other within the play because they are both in positions of unquestioned wealth and power.
However, due to their children s betrayal, their assurance is stripped away and the fathers are left
with nothing. Through this both Lear and Gloucester have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The loyal and favoured child, Cordelia and Edgar, are disowned because their fathers hath ever

unswervingly loyal and loving even after being wronged. Furthermore, Cordelia and Edgar
represent the best of humanity. This is seen through the Christ like imagery Shakespeare uses in
act 4, scene 3 to describe Cordelia reading Kent s letter. This is also evident in Edgar s
perseverance when he tries to remain positive by saying he would rather be contemned/ than
still contemned and flattered as well as the worst returns to laughter (IV.1. 1 2, 6). Both Edgar
and Cordelia so the right thing without seeking recognition, this is contrasted by their evil
siblings. Edmund, Goneril and Regan are driven by their ambition for power and wealth, and
they are willing to commit acts of trickery and deception to get what they want. Moreover, their
anger and hatred stems from the same place; being loved less by their father. This is evident is
how Gloucester blushed to acknowledge [Edmund] and refers to him as his whoreson , whereas
Lear refers to Cordelia as his joy and offers her a third more opulent/than [her] sisters (I.1.9 10, 23;
I.1.75, 77 78). Through this, Edmund, Regan and Goneril are unsympathetic towards their father,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Propomposition
2.3 Ingredients Decomposition Oxidizer and binder decomposition play very significant role during
the combustion of composite propellants. Inorganic oxidant and polymeric binder are the major
components of their formulations and AP is the practical (still in use) oxidizer in the composite
propellant formulations [26]. Available information on decomposition of binder in general and AP
in particular have been collected and reviewed from the viewpoint of their application in the
composite propellant. This review may be useful in understanding the complicated mechanisms of
the propellants combustion. When the chemical nature of either oxidizer or binder is changed then
the propellant properties are drastically altered. It was known that the AP decomposition and
deflagration represent very important role during the propellant combustion and the binder
decomposition temperature is related to the propellant burning rate. Various investigations have
shown that the additives which sensitize or desensitize decomposition of ammonium perchlorate
either sensitize or desensitize its deflagration leading to burning rate increasing or decreasing.
Those examples very clearly exhibit the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subsequent de propagation results in either gaseous products (vapors) or cross linking with
char formation of conjugate double bonds followed by dehydrogenation. Un catalyzed
decomposition of binders when compared to the considerable effort that has been devoted to
understand the AP decomposition, binder decomposition has received very little attention. This
may be due to the fact that the oxidizer which is presented in large quantity in the propellant may
perhaps control its combustion characteristics. However, with the advancement of the combustion
modeling the need of binder decomposition during the combustion was recognized [34,

The Fish Story Symbolism
The fish in Fish Story symbolizes a transitional period for the boy, who acts as the narrator. Many
times it is said that your eyes are the windows to your soul, in Fish Story the fish s eyes acted as
a symbolic window into the narrator s soul. Being a boy of 10 years old he is suspended between
the world of childhood innocence and raw uncensored adulthood. From early on the boyconnects
with the fishas he is describing the fish s eyes, The fish, in turn, studied me with its round,
obsidian eyes, which had a gold lining to their perimeter, like pyrite (p. 1, par. 5, Bass, 2009). This

to the alcohol consumed, if not directly, he makes mention of the fact it is present several times
throughout the story.
As he is forced into the harsh reality of adulthood he notices the fish changing too, once again in
the fish s eyes, I kept watering the fish. The gasps were coming slower and I felt that perhaps a
fire was going out in the fish s eyes (p. 3, par. 22, Bass, 2009). Just as the water is turned off by
Jack s dad, the narrator s innocence starts a downward spiral. He no longer has that lifeline to the
fish. He starts seeing changes in the fish s appearance Immediately, or so it seemed to me, a fine
wrinkling appeared on the previously taut gunmetal skin of the fish a desiccation, like watching
a time lapse motion picture of a man s or woman s skin wrinkling as he or she ages, regardless of
the man s or woman s wishes to the contrary (p. 3, par. 24, Bass, 2009). With this reference he is
implying the desire to stay young and to not age, to not be aware of the eventual end. As Jack s
father is prepping the fish for the fire the boy is shocked, and disgusted

Changing Gender Roles In Persepolis By Marjane Satrapi
Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood is a graphic novel written and designed by Marjane Satrapi, a
native of Iran, which outlines her youth and interpretation of the country before, during, and after
the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Many topics are conveyed within the comic, some being the root of
controversy concerning Iranas an Orient from a western perspective. These topics include the
history of Iran and politics, Islamfrom an ideological perspective, the oppression of women with
the hijab, gender roles in Iranian society, and social classes among Iranians. In order to obtain a
general overview of how these changes affected Iranian society, one must understand a brief
historical context of Iran, from the rise and fall of the Pahlavi dynasty starting in 1925 and ending
in 1979, to post revolutionefforts; the distinction between Islam and Islamic Fundamentalism; and
the basic underlining of specific gender roles established from Iranian patriarchy. Persepolis

Analysis Of The Other Side Of The Sky By Farah Ahmedi
Farah Ahmedi was a girl who was desperate to escape her war torn country of Afghanistan by
crossing the border into Pakistan. Annie Johnson was a fierce woman who wanted to support
her family by starting an intricate business that cooks meals for factory workers. The next
mission missionary was Theodore Boone who was a 13 year old boy who wanted to prevent a
bypass from being built through homes and farms, but not until his friend s farm was in the
danger zone. However, all three wanted to help, whether it was them self or others. Farah
Ahmedi was a woman who wanted to cross the border into Pakistan from Afghanistan. The story
The Other Side of The Sky, elaborates on this statement by describing Farah Ahmedi s life, the
author states, Their only hope was to escape to Pakistan (para. 3). This quote explains that Farah
Ahmedi did not want to leave the country out of her own choice, it was a necessary decision. Her
country was war torn, so she and her mom had no choice. After the very difficult and treacherous
journey to cross the border through the mountains on the border, and four years in Pakistan, Farah
and her mother were finally chosen to come to America. A quote from an interview with Farah
elaborates on this statement by stating, After four years of hardship [in Pakistan] she and her
mother are chosen to come to America. (authorlink 4). Just because Farah and her mother got out of
Afghanistan, didn t mean that the hardship was over. She had lost all of her family

My Goals Of Drinking Water
My first nutritional goal was to drink more water, I had always struggled with drinking water.
Months ago I would go hours without drinking water I would notice that my face would get
puffy especially in the mornings. I didn t realize that my body needed water until I read an
article that talked about how our body may react to no drinking enough water, it talked about
puffy eyes and that dehydration may cause this. I initially thought that it was because I wasn t
getting enough sleep but since I started drinking water I notice that my face and eyes were not
as puffy as before. I managed to archive this goal, now I try to drink at least 7 to eight glasses of
water which is about half a gallon a day. Achieving this goal was not easy at all, drinking water was
hard for me I dislike the tasteand did not enjoy it at all. I was having a hard time the first two
weeks, then I decided to add fruitto my water, I bought a water bottle that has a diffuser which
made it easier. I used all kinds of fruits for example strawberries,... Show more content on

Cause And Effect Of The Pregnancy Rate During The First...
According to The March of Dimes (2016) miscarriage, particularly in the first trimester, has an
overall estimated incidence of 10 to 15%. However, the number could be as high as 50% when
taking into account pregnancies which had not yet been discovered (March of Dimes,
2016). Concern regarding miscarriage is universal yet in women taking an antidepressant this
concern increases as researchers have theorized that its use may increase the potential for
spontaneous abortion. Two large scale studies by Andersen et al., (2014) and Kjaersgaard et al.,
(2013) documented increased miscarriage rates although a direct correlation between SSRI use and
spontaneous abortion was not identified. These two prospective studies combined evaluated ... Show

So while increased miscarriage rates have been documented in the research, the authors conclusions
directed implication away from SSRI use and focused rather on other possible causative factors.
PREGNANCY, SSRI USE AND NEONATAL OUTCOMES 8
SSRIs do not seem to be implicated in spontaneous abortion and their role in stillbirth and
postneonatal mortality follows similar lines. The increase in both stillbirth and postneonatal
mortality found in the studies by Andersen et al., (2014), Jimenez Solem et al., ( 2013)
Stephansson et al., (2013) are likely attributed to severity of disease and comorbidity factors such as
increased tobacco and alcohol use, elevated BMI, and or higher maternal age. None of these studies
concluded that SSRI use was a causative factor, but rather focused on depression and the common
health risks which often accompany the diagnosis. Overall, review of the current literature finds no
direct causal relationship between SSRI use and miscarriage, stillbirth or postneonatal mortality
(Andersen et al., Jimenez Solem et al., 2013, Kjaersgaard et al., 2013 Stephansson et al., 2013).
This does not eliminate an indirect causal relationship from malformations such as persistent
pulmonary hypertension, anencephaly, craniosynostosis, or omphalocele.

  • 2. Malaysia s Alternative Strategy Essay examples [MALAYSIA S ALTERNATIVE STRATEGY] Introduction The 1997 Asian Financial Crisis drew attention to just how fragile our global economic system can become either when overexposed to foreign market intervention, or when underperformance remains unchecked. Prior to June 1997, The Republic of Korea encountered issues as 10 of its 30 top performing chaebol (Conglomerate) collapsed underneath debt which far exceeded their respective equities. Korean steel production giant Hanbo faced additional stress after amassing a $4.39 billion debt for one new steel mill. Kia Motors fell due to accruing almost $2.1 billion in loans that was awarded on the basis of need, as opposed to independent judgment of credit and cash flow determined by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On 2 July 1997 Thailand had $2,850 billion remaining in international reserves and could no longer protect the baht. That day Marakanond decided to float the baht. Asian Financial Crisis Neighboring Countries Neighbor South Korea dealt with economic uncertainty leading up to the 1997 currency crisis which plagued Thailand. South Korean chaebols or conglomerates were recording record debt levels between 1996 and 1997. Banking policies enacted by President, or Dictator, Park during the late 80 s constructed an economic environment whereby loans to chaebols were issued on the basis of company need, as opposed to individual judgment on part of the loan issuing authority. In more succinct terms, nationalized banks issues loans to chaebols without verifying whether the company could pay the loan bank, or whether the interest rates were reasonable, or even whether the company s venture had enough collateral to back it up. In essence, chaebols were tasked with repaying loans that they might not have the appropriate level of capital for. Therefore, on the eve of the Asian Financial Crisis, chaebols such as Hanbo Steel, and others, were closing their doors due to debt burdens incurred without a proper foundation for capital generation. Neighbors to the South, Indonesia and others, suffered from currency, stock, and equity collapses, rather than tangible asset collapse. Debra Actus Reus Of Murder LL4002 Criminal Law,Feb.Start Though there is no definite definition of Murder but according to Lord Justice Coke, is the unlawful killing of a reasonable creature in rerum natura under the King s peace, with malice aforethought... The prosecution would be able to prove Debra committed the actus reus of murder by causing grievous bodily harm. In this question, Debra inflicts unlawful harm by slamming the frying pan on Viktor s head, which is the actus reus of murder. Debra has factual and legal cause of Viktor s death. But for her actions, he would not have died in (White [1910]2, KB 124). Her actions were operating and substantial cause of his death (Smith [1959]2, QB 35). In this scenario, she is suffering from long term anxiety and stress disorder which she is receiving treatment from her GP and a psychologist. This is a recognised medical condition. It is very likely that Debra will be able to rely on this defence if she is able to present a certification, a medical report from a recognised psychiatrist. • 4. Examples Of Love In The Outsiders Hannah Slish English Period 11 12/12/17 Love, Support, and Care Teenagers can t be thrown around and not be seen. Being ignored can cause a teen to feel unstable, not loved, rebellious and many other things along with those examples. In the novel, The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, they re kids who suffer in being ignored. It s just not right to throw them around like dolls! Therefore if a teenager is ignored or not loved, they may start acting unstable as a result of such abuse. The character Johnny Cade wanted to kill himself because of his parents ignoring him and fighting with each other. Being pushed around, hit, and ignored enough to want to kill yourself is too far. I think I like it better when the old man s hitting me. (ch 3) It s sad to hear a kid the age of sixteen prefer getting beat by his own father just to know that he s there. Johnny seemed to feel loved when his father beat him. And it was the only real contact he got, his mother acted like he was a ghost. The abuse has gone too far when you feel love from getting beat, and want to commit suicide because of all the stress being carried.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shoot my old man don t give a hang whether I m in jail, dead in a car wreck, or drunk in the gutter. • 5. Social Security Trust Vs. Privatization Social Security Trust v. Privatization Debates over Social Security have been ongoing since its inception in 1935 until today. The trend seems to be toward an increasing percentage of the American public, across party and demographic lines, in favor of strengthening Social Security funding, and a willingness to pay more to preserve and even improve benefits. However, the trend towards privatization of Social Security is also on the rise. What is not clear is whether Americans favor privatization because of fears that the Social Security Trust Fund is living on borrowed time. The Social Security Act (SSA) of 1935 was drafted during the Great Depression as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt s New Deal. The SSA was an attempt to ... In 2003, Congress added a prescription drug benefit to Medicare (Edwards 431, 540). Since the Social Security Act was signed into law, many politicians have advocated for privatizing Social Security, even though Americans are in favor of Social Security and wish to strengthen the program. The American public strongly supports Social Security, across party and demographic lines. A January 2013, National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) study, Strengthening Social Security: What Do Americans Want?, found that Americans overwhelmingly support Social Security and are willing to pay more to preserve and improve benefits. With more than 59 million or 18% of Americans receiving Social Security benefits, Americans recognize Social Security as a critical program. A large majority of Americans say they do not mind paying Social Security taxes because of the stability and security the benefits provide. These findings hold true across party lines, those polled included 87% of Democrats, 72% of Republicans, and 81% of Independents. 73% of Americans are also willing to pay for Social Security because they value it for themselves and their families. 85% of Americans say Social Security is more important than ever to ensure that the elderly and disabled have dependable income. Abstract This article provides a brief introduction to behavioral finance. Behavioral finance encompasses research that drops the traditional assumptions of expected utility maximization with rational investors in efficient markets. This is especially true when one is dealing with a large market, such as the Japanese stock market in the late 1980s or the U.S. market for technology stocks in the late 1990s. Arbitrageurs that attempted to short Japanese stocks in mid1987 and hedge by going long in U.S. stocks were right in the long run, but they lost huge amounts of money in October 1987 when the U.S. market crashed by more than the Japanese market (because of Japanese government intervention). If the arbitrageurs have limited funds, they would be forced to cover their positions just when the relative misvaluations were greatest, resulting in additional buying pressure for Japanese stocks just when they were most overvalued! 2. Cognitive Biases Cognitive psychologists have documented many patterns regarding how people behave. Some of these patterns are as follows: Heuristics Heuristics, or rules of thumb, make decision making easier. But they can sometimes lead to biases, especially when things change. These can lead to suboptimal investment decisions. When faced with N choices for how to invest retirement money, many people allocate using the 1/N rule. If there were no means to transport our animals safely and cheaply around the country the entire infrastructure of the hobby would collapse, bringing down small business owners as well. Corporate social responsibility (CSR), which is a popular debate topic over decades, has divided into five major dimensions over time. They are known as the stakeholder dimension, the social dimension, the economic dimension, the voluntariness dimension and the environmental dimension in research (Dahlsrud, 2008). The relationship between CSR and company s performance, which is classified as the stakeholder dimension, aroused a controversial discussion among different research studies. Despite the influence of omitted factors, CSR neither benefit nor harm company s performance. For those cases reported positive relationship above, they are very likely to be the result of a good marketing strategy and aggressive advertisement (for restaurant and airlines), successful management (for employees willingness to work in a responsible company), an efficient R amp;D and politic strategies (for DuPont s case), etc. However, research reaching a negative relationship can also be blamed to other stuffs related to CSR, rather than CSR itself. For example, the agency problem appears when there s a conflict between company s goal and the agent s personal goal, not only in CSR; and the profit issue is just a matter of choice. Thus, while measuring CSR s influence on company s performance, we should first identify or select the dimensions of corporate social responsibility (Ruf, 1998, as cited in Foote, Gaffney, amp;Evans, 2010). Nothing can we truly measure before a clear identification. After a clear identification, we will be able to figure out whether it is the impact brought by CSR, and therefore eliminate the interference from R amp;D, advertising, or political efforts, etc. It s not simply ... Common misconceptions and assumptions can be damaging to people with such illnesses by the development of social stigmas and creation of outcasts in situations where support is needed. In modern times communication to the public about mental illness comes in a variety of ways, some accurate and some not. Movies are an example of a medium which has high potential for erroneous depictions of these and are also widely publicised. This essay will look at the movie The BourneIdentity (Liman, 2002) and whether or not the depiction of mental illness in the protagonist has accuracy, or is an example of misinformation about the reality which many people suffer through. The movie begins with a fishing boat picking up a man out of the water in a storm off the coast of southern France. They treat his wounds and as he regains consciousness it becomes apparent he has no idea of who he is or anything about himself. The only clue to his identity is a device found under his skin which has the number for a safety deposit box in Zurich. Gasoline Vehicles Essay Materials and Methods Source #1 In the first article, Electric Vehicles vs Gasoline Vehicles: A Cost and Emissions Comparison, the cost and GHG emissions of plug in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), electric vehicles (EVs), and standard gasoline cars were compared. All the numbers used in the research were based on averages in the Midwestern region of the United States, and was published June 2nd, 2011 at 10:53 a.m. Its goal was to measure how much better, or worse, any type of electric car is compared to your standard gas car. It also compared how much it costs you to drive per mile. The source believes hybrid vehicles actually hurt the environment more than it preserves. To calculate the cost per mile, they took the average power used for PHEVs per 100 miles, 35 Kwh, and multiplied that by the average cost per Kwh in residential regions, $0.11. Then, it takes into account the cost to get a charging station at your home. This really drives up the cost of electric vehicles because it cost $50 to $90 for a subscription every month. After that, the emissions per mile was calculated for all three cars by calculating the average. The regional average for hybrid cars 35 Kwh per 100 miles. The historical contextual settings of both texts encapsulate worlds of destruction in which the central female protagonists, Ada Mcgrath and Selma Jezkova, withstand the understanding between the native Maori people towards the scripted and sterile play which served as a form of happiness and communal gathering for Victorian Europeans suggests that different forms of expression such as drama and music often lacks understanding when compared to reality. Contrastingly, in the musical interludes, von Trier explores the idea that creativity brings a sense of connection and unity through the use of artificial lighting, saturated colour palette, non diegetic sound track and head shots and long shots exposing a community singing, dancing and embracing. The vibrancy and liveliness in these musical scenes directly contrasts with the raw reduction in the reality scenes and ultimately suggests that musicals create a hopeful and reconciliatory world where, contrasting Campion s, there is always someone to catch you when you fall. • 29. Climate Analysis On Climate Archives There is significant evidence from studies based on climate archives that the Earth s climate about 10 000 years ago was very different from the present climate; it has changed a lot since the last glacial period which ended about 10 000 12 000 years ago (Chappell, 1998). Hence, about 10 000 years ago the Earth was buried under ice sheets and it was much cooler than present temperatures (see Figure 1, Appendix) (Chappell, 1998). The Earth that has been cycling between cold and warm climates for ages and is currently in the interglacial period where it has slowly become warmer along with a rise in sea level (Watts, 2009). Corals were first discovered about 200 million years, however most have grown over the last 10 000 years. Therefore, corals are great climate archives to use in order to study the climate from the last 10 000 years. Corals also have a wide array of climatic history stored within them (Introduction: Coral Reefs, 2015). They have a long lifetime and rapid growth which makes them ideal climate archives for studying the past climate (Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics, 2015). Along with the corals there is the foraminifera; also referred to as sea floor fossils. These sea floor fossils are often found in sediment cores and can reveal a variety of things about the past climate through ocean currents, temperature and oxygen ratios. Also these fossils are the most common source of paleoceanographic proxies, making them easily available (Kucera, 2007). Hence, foraminifera or sea floor fossils are an ideal climate archives for studying the past climate from about 10 000 years ago alongside corals. Information about the past climate can not only help us understand our present climate but can also help predict our future climate trends. Corals, which are one of the climate archives been discussed, are living organisms who produce a calcium carbonate skeleton to make themselves look like rocks. The calcium carbonate bands found in corals help form permanent records of seasonal and annual climate changes. Corals are a type of biotic proxy; which are proxies based on the ... (2007) [32] Currently distributes systems support different computing paradigms like Cluster Computing, Grid Computing, Peer to Peer Computing, and Cloud Computing all involving elements of heterogeneity. These computing distributed systems are often characterized by a variety of resources that may or may not be coupled with specific platforms or environments. All these topics challenge today researchers, due to the strong dynamic behaviour of the user communities and of resource collections they use. D. In this paper, with the help of the advanced automation and information technologies, a new hydraulic regulation method was proposed to achieve on site hydraulic balance for the district heating systems with distributed variable speed pumps configuration. The proposed method was comprised of a new hydraulic model, which was developed to adapt the distributed variable speed pumps configuration, and a calibration model with genetic algorithm. By carrying out the proposed method step by step, the flow rates of all distributed pumps can be progressively adjusted to their designated values. A hypothetic district heating system with 2 heat sources and 10 substations was taken as a case study to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method. Two scenarios were investigated respectively. In Scenario I, the flow rate of one substation varied according to its heat demand and the flow rates of other substations maintained their original values. And in Scenario II, the flow rates of all substations varied synchronously with the same relative rate. The results of the both scenarios indicated that all pumps could be properly adjusted to their designated flow rates by the proposed method with a high frequency adjustment resolution as 0.001 Hz. H. This era is distinguished by the break with traditions of literary forms, styles, and concepts, giving creation to an assortment of cultural, art, and political movements. Perhaps nobody took as full of an advantage of the concept of modernismas poets did, expanding the possibilities of their works to unimaginable lengths. Poets such as Langston Hughes, William Carlos Williams, Gertrude Stein, and many others employed literary devices to portray important messages that they often buried in their works. From the use of these literary devices such as metaphors, imagery, and symbolism these poets were able to portray concepts of race, class, and gender in the Modernism era. Written at the age of seventeen, The Negro Speaks of Rivers by Langston Hughes illustrates the historical journey of the African Americanrace to America (Socarides). By using rivers as a metaphor for the source of life, Hughes outlines the movement of African American race from the Nile and Euphrates rivers in Africa to the Mississippi. Hughes subtly expresses his admonition of slavery and racism in the line My soul has grown deep like the rivers (Line 4). Both Dashiell Hammett s development of Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon and Dorothy Sayers development of Harriet Vane in Gaudy Night, leave something to be said about the way British and American detective novels create their characters in line with different views of life. Whether that perspective is relative to the time period and country, or just the views of the author, it is clear that the American hardboilednovel focuses strongly on the self interest of most of the characters, and the self development of Sam Spade and what his perception of life is. Dorothy Sayers develops her protagonist Harriet Vane in a similar way. She too is trying to understand her place in the world and is given the opportunity to do so at Shrewsbury. The two novels contrast either drastically in plot development and the types of crimes, which influences the character s views of their own lives. The Maltese Falcon begins by quickly establishing Sam Spade as a morally complex character after his affair with his partner s wife, even though he is supposed to be the protagonist. Sam Spade s opening description as a blond devil let the readers begin to picture his cynicism. Readers can t expect the normal actions of a protagonist as they can in Gaudy Night. Public broadcasting is needed to enhance democracy in Canada because our society depends heavily on media influence and this influence has increased over the years, it is a platform for Canadian culture to be represented in the media and it ensures that Canadians receive rich unbiased information. THE CANADIAN SOCIETY IS INFLUENCED HEAVILY BY THE MEDIA One of the major reasons that Canada needs public broadcasters to enhance democracy is because Canadians are heavily influenced by the media. One of the arguments against this notion is that Canada as a nation has been able to retain democracy before the introduction of media, according to Attallah (2008) there is no need for public broadcasting because democracy was able to thrive prior to the introduction of media (p.1). Attallah, however, has neglected the fact that the Canadian society like every other active society is forever evolving and changing. As we move into an era where the media plays a major role, it is imperative that our way of thinking about the society evolves as well. This means that though the nation was able to thrive without public broadcasting 2000 years ago, this is not the case now. Today s society demands that the media plays an active part. That is a lot of money and here is the catch, that cost is only for one launch and there have been about 130 launches. So if you do the math, we have spent about $58.5 billion on space travel. That is the total cost of all 130 space shuttlelaunches, but there have also been five strong fleet launches. To build a strong fleet shuttle it takes around $1.7 billion (Thompson 1). Those costs, though, are only covering all of the shuttles. To build and maintain over the years, the International Space Stationhas cost a total of about $142 billion. If you think that is already a lot of money, that amount isn t even adding the missions to get there and back. Furthermore, no one in the book exists without some type of tangible record proving existence. When Mr. Franklin, the Old Man s executor, interrogates Chance, he seeks commodified proof of Chance s existence; he asks for, among other items, a checkbook, driver s license, insurance card, tax forms. Chance, encountering the existential dilemma, the quest for identity, counters: you have me. I am here. What more proof do you need (18)? Of course, mere existence proves useless and Chance is excommunicated from his beloved garden. Why does a writer who displays such brilliant technical skills and prosaic style resort to utilizing such a one dimensional character? Perhaps Koskinski has simply found the next logical step in the chain of psychological evolution. Yet, rather than the natural heir to Benji Compson, Chance is, instead, the natural descendent of Patrice Mersault. • 48. The Fish Story Symbolism The fish in Fish Story symbolizes a transitional period for the boy, who acts as the narrator. Many times it is said that your eyes are the windows to your soul, in Fish Story the fish s eyes acted as a symbolic window into the narrator s soul. Being a boy of 10 years old he is suspended between the world of childhood innocence and raw uncensored adulthood. From early on the boyconnects with the fishas he is describing the fish s eyes, The fish, in turn, studied me with its round, obsidian eyes, which had a gold lining to their perimeter, like pyrite (p. 1, par. 5, Bass, 2009). In fact, the actions of the partygoers that night the narrator largely attributes to the alcohol consumed, if not directly, he makes mention of the fact it is present several times throughout the story. As he is forced into the harsh reality of adulthood he notices the fish changing too, once again in the fish s eyes, I kept watering the fish. The gasps were coming slower and I felt that perhaps a fire was going out in the fish s eyes (p. 3, par. 22, Bass, 2009). Just as the water is turned off by Jack s dad, the narrator s innocence starts a downward spiral. He no longer has that lifeline to the fish. He starts seeing changes in the fish s appearance Immediately, or so it seemed to me, a fine wrinkling appeared on the previously taut gunmetal skin of the fish a desiccation, like watching a time lapse motion picture of a man s or woman s skin wrinkling as he or she ages, regardless of the man s or woman s wishes to the contrary (p. 3, par. 24, Bass, 2009). With this reference he is implying the desire to stay young and to not age, to not be aware of the eventual end. As Jack s father is prepping the fish for the fire the boy is shocked, and disgusted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. My Goals Of Drinking Water My first nutritional goal was to drink more water, I had always struggled with drinking water. Months ago I would go hours without drinking water I would notice that my face would get puffy especially in the mornings. I didn t realize that my body needed water until I read an article that talked about how our body may react to no drinking enough water, it talked about puffy eyes and that dehydration may cause this. I initially thought that it was because I wasn t getting enough sleep but since I started drinking water I notice that my face and eyes were not as puffy as before. I managed to archive this goal, now I try to drink at least 7 to eight glasses of water which is about half a gallon a day. Achieving this goal was not easy at all, drinking water was hard for me I dislike the tasteand did not enjoy it at all. • 54. Cause And Effect Of The Pregnancy Rate During The First... According to The March of Dimes (2016) miscarriage, particularly in the first trimester, has an overall estimated incidence of 10 to 15%. However, the number could be as high as 50% when taking into account pregnancies which had not yet been discovered (March of Dimes, 2016). Concern regarding miscarriage is universal yet in women taking an antidepressant this concern increases as researchers have theorized that its use may increase the potential for spontaneous abortion. Two large scale studies by Andersen et al., (2014) and Kjaersgaard et al., (2013) documented increased miscarriage rates although a direct correlation between SSRI use and spontaneous abortion was not identified. These two prospective studies combined evaluated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So while increased miscarriage rates have been documented in the research, the authors conclusions directed implication away from SSRI use and focused rather on other possible causative factors. PREGNANCY, SSRI USE AND NEONATAL OUTCOMES 8 SSRIs do not seem to be implicated in spontaneous abortion and their role in stillbirth and postneonatal mortality follows similar lines. The increase in both stillbirth and postneonatal mortality found in the studies by Andersen et al., (2014), Jimenez Solem et al., ( 2013) Stephansson et al., (2013) are likely attributed to severity of disease and comorbidity factors such as increased tobacco and alcohol use, elevated BMI, and or higher maternal age. None of these studies concluded that SSRI use was a causative factor, but rather focused on depression and the common health risks which often accompany the diagnosis. Overall, review of the current literature finds no direct causal relationship between SSRI use and miscarriage, stillbirth or postneonatal mortality (Andersen et al., Jimenez Solem et al., 2013, Kjaersgaard et al., 2013 Stephansson et al., 2013). This does not eliminate an indirect causal relationship from malformations such as persistent pulmonary hypertension, anencephaly, craniosynostosis, or omphalocele.
