PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Xavier Turner, Tarleton State University, JR, RB, North Richland Hills, Texas, Birdville HS
Turner enjoyed a career night Saturday as he became the first Texan to rush for three touchdowns in a single game since
2014. The junior from North Richland Hills topped the 100-yard mark on the ground for the first time in the purple and
white as Turner went for 135 yards on 17 carries with three scores, including a long run of 45 yards to the house. He
averaged 7.9 yards per carry and added a five-yard reception on the night. Turner is the Tarleton player to rush for three
touchdowns in a game since Collin Strahan in 2014 and was the first player this season to run for over 100 yards against
West Texas A&M.
DEFENSIVE
Yusef Sterling-Lowe, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SR, CB, Oakland, Calif., McClymonds HS
Sterling-Lowe had two interceptions in the Lions' 38-7 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday. After holding the
Javelina offense without a first down for until 12 minutes left in the first half, the senior put an end to the final TAMUK
drive of the half. He outjumped his opponent and intercepted a pass, returning the ball 30 yards and keeping the
Javelinas off the board. Sterling-Lowe was not done there. On a 3rd and 19 play, he again intercepted TAMUK and
returned the ball inside the red zone, setting up the Lions for their final touchdown drive of the game. Sterling-Lowe had
three tackles, including a five-yard tackle for loss and broke up two other passes on the day as the Lion defense held the
Javelinas to just 216 yards.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Kristov Martinez, Texas A&M University-Commerce, JR, K, Edinburg, Texas, Edinburg HS
Martinez moved into second place all-time in PAT's made in school history. He made a season-long 44-yard field goal in
the Lions 38-7 win over A&M-Kingsville and all five of his PAT attempts. Martinez is now 47 points away from becoming
the Lions' all-time scoring leader.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Markel Steward, West Texas A&M University, had a career-best 132 yards receiving on six catches and a long of 40
for the Buffs this weekend. He is the first 100-yard receiver of the season for WT. It was his first game in a WT uniform
where he had receptions.
Kamal Cass, Eastern New Mexico University, carried a major load for the Eastern New Mexico University football
team amid turbulent weather conditions. A one-hour lightning delay, quickly followed by halftime disrupted the quick
start ENMU had against Angelo State. Cass' career-high 37 carries helped the Hounds hold the ball for 43:04 of play to
thwart ASU's comeback effort. He finished with a season-high 182 yards rushing, with a 57-yard touchdown run for his
longest run of the season.
Javia Hall, Western New Mexico, after throwing for nearly 500 yards against UT Permian Basin, he now has the top
three passing games in the Lone Star Conference this year. Against the Falcons he tossed for 496 yards for his third game
of going over 400 yards and has the third-highest passing performance in a single game in all of Division II. Hall
completed 42-70 with four touchdowns, with a long completion of 36 yards. Of his four TD passes, they all went to four
different receivers. On the ground, he added 16 yards and a touchdown.
Luiz Perez, Texas A&M University-Commerce, was 24-for-32 for 319 yards and four touchdown passes in the Lions'
38-7 win over A&M-Kingsville. Perez had two touchdown passes of over 50 yards. It was Perez's third consecutive game
with at least four touchdown passes. Perez has nine passes of more than 30 yards already this season, six of which have
gone for touchdowns. He leads the LSC in completion percentage, touchdowns and efficiency.
Justin Jackason, Angelo State University, set a career high and a single-game high in the LSC this season with 17 total
tackles in a 31-21 loss to Eastern New Mexico. He recorded nine solo and eight assisted tackles from his linebacker
position. The junior was key in limiting ENMU to just 84 second half yards as the Rams tried to make a comeback.
Chris Hoad, UT Permian Basin, was instrumental in the Falcons picking up their first Lone Star Conference win in
school history. The sophomore linebacker led UTPB with 14 total tackles and took his second interception of the year to
the end zone for a 49 yard touchdown. He leads UT Permian Basin with 51 tackles on the year and ranks second in the
conference with 12.5 tackles per game
Dominic Barry, Western New Mexico, was again all over the field for the Mustangs posting 10 tackles, three solo,
along with a tackle for loss and three quarterback hurries.
Elliott Hart, Tarleton State University, had a career night from the safety position as the senior from Tyler sealed the
Tarleton win with an interception on West Texas A&M's final drive with 1:36 left in the game. Trailing by 10 in the final
two minutes, WT quarterback Justin Houghtaling threw his first interception of the game into the waiting arms of Hart,
who returned it seven yards and slid down to give the ball back to the Texan offense to run out the clock. Hart also had a
career high nine tackles, including seven solo stops. Hart and the Texan defense held WT scoreless until the final minute
of the third quarter as they built a 27-0 lead.
Brad Hardin, Eastern New Mexico University, defensive effort helped the Greyhounds thwart a furious Angelo State
rally amid turbulent weather conditions. His 2.5 tackles for a loss continually put the Rams in difficult downs and
distances throughout the game. He also had a quarterback hurry and third-quarter sack. ENMU's defense allowed just
four third-down conversions and held the opposition to no fourth-down conversions in three tries.
Solomon Perdue, West Texas A&M University, named team defensive player of the week for the Buffs. Had three
solo tackles and one tackle for loss for two yards at Tarleton State.
Ron Reid, Tarleton State University, continued to dominate the field position game as the junior from Burleson
averaged 36.6 yards per punt and pinned three of his punts inside the 20-yard line. His biggest punt of the night came
with three minutes left in the game and Tarleton leading by 10. Reid put a punt on the five-yard line that died on the
two-yard line, to force the WT offense to go the entire length of the field with limited time remaining. The Buffs made it
39 yards before turning it over on an interception to seal the win for Tarleton. Reid totaled 183 yards of punt work on
five kicks while also kicking off five times for an average of 63.6 yards per kickoff with a touchback.
Bailey Hale’s, Eastern New Mexico University, 28-yard field goal represented all of Eastern's scoring in the second
half on Saturday night against Angelo State. The play was critical though, and with turbulent winds and rain, extended
ENMU's lead to ten points with less than four minutes to play. Hale's four touchbacks in seven kickoffs limited ASU's
field position throughout the game and was a key part of the win.
LSC NOTES (Submitted by LSC SID’s)
Angelo State
* Eastern New Mexico 31, Angelo State 21
Eastern New Mexico
Last Saturday, the Greyhounds withstood lightning delays, turbulent wins, torrential rain, and a furious Angelo State
rally. A late 28-yard Bailey Hale field goal and a career-high 37 carries from senior running back Kamal Cass proved
critical, as the Rams pulled within a touchdown after ENMU held a 21-point lead. The Greyhound ground game enabled
them to hold the ball for an incredible 42:04 of play and convert 10-of-21 third-down chances, while limiting ASU to four
third-down conversions. The result was a 31-21 victory for ENMU. This week, the Hounds visit West Texas A&M for the
annual Wagon Wheel Game.
Midwestern State
Did not play last week.
Tarleton State
Tarleton defeated West Texas A&M 30-20 for its third straight win. The Texans will visit UT Permian Basin Saturday at 6
p.m.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The No. 3 Lions had their third consecutive win by at least 29 points with a 38-7 win over A&M-Kingsville to retain the
Chennault Cup for a sixth consecutive season. The Lions are 4-0 for the second consecutive year. They lead the LSC in
total defense, rushing defense, return average and interceptions. The Lions will have a bye week before a road matchup
against Midwestern State on Oct. 7.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M-Kingsville was defeated at home by rival A&M-Commerce 38-7. They are now 1-3 this season and will be
looking for its first conference win of the season this weekend at Angelo State.
UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin overcame a 14-0 start by Western New Mexico to take a 27-14 lead, and held off the Mustangs late in
the fourth quarter for a 41-32 win. It marked the team's first-ever Division II and Lone Star Conference victory. Brandon
Infiesto ran for 78 yards and a touchdown while Mitchell Leonard caught five passes for 81 yards and a score, and
Kristian Brown had 59 yards and a TD on three receptions. The Falcons were outgained 572 to 311 on the day but forced
a pair of interceptions and a fumble, scoring on a pick by Chris Hoad in the second quarter and connection on a
touchdown the next series the first play after forcing a fumble.
West Texas A&M
The West Texas A&M football team struggled for three quarters at Tarleton State Saturday in a 30-20 loss...The Buffs
spotted TSU a 27-0 lead in the third quarter before closing the deficit, outscoring TSU 13-3 in the final quarter and
scored 20 of the last 23 points...Despite the loss, the Buffs had some positives as they set season-highs in passing yards
(272) and total yards (407) in the game...WT went 11 of 18 on third down for the best of the season, but three missed
field goals in the first half were costly, along with two turnovers leading to seven points for TSU...Junior Markel Steward
had a career-high 132 yards receiving on six catches, becoming the first Buff to eclipse 100 yards receiving this
season...Redshirt freshman quarterback Justin Houghtaling returned going 17 for 38 with an interception and a career-
best 272 yards passing...WT scored a season-high three rushing touchdowns...The quick start by Tarleton State proved
to be too much as the Buffs return home to host Eastern New Mexico in the annual Wagon Wheel Game Saturday at 6
p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
Western New Mexico
Despite outgaining UTPB by over 250 yards, the Falcons were able to escape with the nine-point win over the Mustangs.
Javia Hall continued his passing barrage marking his third game this season of going for over 400 yards with a near 500-
yard performance.
After Hall threw for nearly 500 yards against UTPB, he now has the top three passing games in the Lone Star Conference
this year. Against the Falcons he tossed for 496 yards for his third game of going over 400 yards and has the third-
highest passing performance in a single game in all of Division II. Hall completed 42-70 with four touchdowns, with a
long completion of 36 yards. Of his four TD passes, they all went to four different receivers. On the ground, he added 16
yards and a touchdown.
Barry was again all over the field for the Mustangs posting 10 tackles, three solo, along with a tackle for loss and three
quarterback hurries.

This week’s schedule includes four Lone Star Conference games with Tarleton at UT Permian Basin, Western New Mexico at MSU, Eastern New Mexico at West Texas A&M, and Texas A&M-Kingsville at Angelo State. LSC football teams are 18-16 overall this season. The squads are 2-3 combined versus the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four. LSC schedule and results available here: http://www.lonestarconference.org/calendar.aspx?path=football LSC FOOTBALL ON ESPN3 The Lone Star Conference game between Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Kingsville on October 21 will be featured as part of the 2017 NCAA Division II Football Showcase schedule. The Texans and Javelinas Homecoming meeting in Kingsville, Texas, will be streamed live on ESPN3 as part of an ongoing three-year agreement to highlight Division II athletics events. The first 18 games of the football showcase are predetermined matchups. Four additional flex games — highlighting crucial matchups — will be finalized later in the football season and played in November. ESPN3 is ESPN’s live multiscreen sports network, a destination that delivers thousands of exclusive sports events annually. It is accessible on computers, smartphones, tablets and connected devices through the ESPN app. The network is currently available nationwide at no additional cost to fans who receive their high-speed internet connection or video subscription from an affiliated service provider. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK OFFENSIVE Xavier Turner, Tarleton State University, JR, RB, North Richland Hills, Texas, Birdville HS Turner enjoyed a career night Saturday as he became the first Texan to rush for three touchdowns in a single game since 2014. The junior from North Richland Hills topped the 100-yard mark on the ground for the first time in the purple and white as Turner went for 135 yards on 17 carries with three scores, including a long run of 45 yards to the house. He averaged 7.9 yards per carry and added a five-yard reception on the night. Turner is the Tarleton player to rush for three touchdowns in a game since Collin Strahan in 2014 and was the first player this season to run for over 100 yards against West Texas A&M.
  • 2. DEFENSIVE Yusef Sterling-Lowe, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SR, CB, Oakland, Calif., McClymonds HS Sterling-Lowe had two interceptions in the Lions' 38-7 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday. After holding the Javelina offense without a first down for until 12 minutes left in the first half, the senior put an end to the final TAMUK drive of the half. He outjumped his opponent and intercepted a pass, returning the ball 30 yards and keeping the Javelinas off the board. Sterling-Lowe was not done there. On a 3rd and 19 play, he again intercepted TAMUK and returned the ball inside the red zone, setting up the Lions for their final touchdown drive of the game. Sterling-Lowe had three tackles, including a five-yard tackle for loss and broke up two other passes on the day as the Lion defense held the Javelinas to just 216 yards. SPECIAL TEAMS Kristov Martinez, Texas A&M University-Commerce, JR, K, Edinburg, Texas, Edinburg HS Martinez moved into second place all-time in PAT's made in school history. He made a season-long 44-yard field goal in the Lions 38-7 win over A&M-Kingsville and all five of his PAT attempts. Martinez is now 47 points away from becoming the Lions' all-time scoring leader. WEEKLY AWARDS Offensive S-4 D'Angelo Bowie, Western New Mexico S-11 Jordan Thomas, Texas A&M-Kingsville S-18 Luiz Perez, Texas A&M-Commerce S-25 Xavier Turner, Tarleton State Defensive S-4 Chris Smith, Texas A&M-Commerce S-11 Daelin Young, West Texas A&M S-18 EJ Speed, Tarleton State S-25 Yusef Sterling-Lowe, Texas A&M-Commerce Special Teams S-4 Bailey Hale, Eastern New Mexico S-11 Alex Schrag, West Texas A&M S-18 Sergio Sroka, Tarleton State S-25 Kristov Martinez, Texas A&M-Commerce OTHER TOP PERFORMERS Markel Steward, West Texas A&M University, had a career-best 132 yards receiving on six catches and a long of 40 for the Buffs this weekend. He is the first 100-yard receiver of the season for WT. It was his first game in a WT uniform where he had receptions. Kamal Cass, Eastern New Mexico University, carried a major load for the Eastern New Mexico University football team amid turbulent weather conditions. A one-hour lightning delay, quickly followed by halftime disrupted the quick start ENMU had against Angelo State. Cass' career-high 37 carries helped the Hounds hold the ball for 43:04 of play to thwart ASU's comeback effort. He finished with a season-high 182 yards rushing, with a 57-yard touchdown run for his longest run of the season.
  • 3. Javia Hall, Western New Mexico, after throwing for nearly 500 yards against UT Permian Basin, he now has the top three passing games in the Lone Star Conference this year. Against the Falcons he tossed for 496 yards for his third game of going over 400 yards and has the third-highest passing performance in a single game in all of Division II. Hall completed 42-70 with four touchdowns, with a long completion of 36 yards. Of his four TD passes, they all went to four different receivers. On the ground, he added 16 yards and a touchdown. Luiz Perez, Texas A&M University-Commerce, was 24-for-32 for 319 yards and four touchdown passes in the Lions' 38-7 win over A&M-Kingsville. Perez had two touchdown passes of over 50 yards. It was Perez's third consecutive game with at least four touchdown passes. Perez has nine passes of more than 30 yards already this season, six of which have gone for touchdowns. He leads the LSC in completion percentage, touchdowns and efficiency. Justin Jackason, Angelo State University, set a career high and a single-game high in the LSC this season with 17 total tackles in a 31-21 loss to Eastern New Mexico. He recorded nine solo and eight assisted tackles from his linebacker position. The junior was key in limiting ENMU to just 84 second half yards as the Rams tried to make a comeback. Chris Hoad, UT Permian Basin, was instrumental in the Falcons picking up their first Lone Star Conference win in school history. The sophomore linebacker led UTPB with 14 total tackles and took his second interception of the year to the end zone for a 49 yard touchdown. He leads UT Permian Basin with 51 tackles on the year and ranks second in the conference with 12.5 tackles per game Dominic Barry, Western New Mexico, was again all over the field for the Mustangs posting 10 tackles, three solo, along with a tackle for loss and three quarterback hurries. Elliott Hart, Tarleton State University, had a career night from the safety position as the senior from Tyler sealed the Tarleton win with an interception on West Texas A&M's final drive with 1:36 left in the game. Trailing by 10 in the final two minutes, WT quarterback Justin Houghtaling threw his first interception of the game into the waiting arms of Hart, who returned it seven yards and slid down to give the ball back to the Texan offense to run out the clock. Hart also had a career high nine tackles, including seven solo stops. Hart and the Texan defense held WT scoreless until the final minute of the third quarter as they built a 27-0 lead. Brad Hardin, Eastern New Mexico University, defensive effort helped the Greyhounds thwart a furious Angelo State rally amid turbulent weather conditions. His 2.5 tackles for a loss continually put the Rams in difficult downs and distances throughout the game. He also had a quarterback hurry and third-quarter sack. ENMU's defense allowed just four third-down conversions and held the opposition to no fourth-down conversions in three tries. Solomon Perdue, West Texas A&M University, named team defensive player of the week for the Buffs. Had three solo tackles and one tackle for loss for two yards at Tarleton State. Ron Reid, Tarleton State University, continued to dominate the field position game as the junior from Burleson averaged 36.6 yards per punt and pinned three of his punts inside the 20-yard line. His biggest punt of the night came with three minutes left in the game and Tarleton leading by 10. Reid put a punt on the five-yard line that died on the two-yard line, to force the WT offense to go the entire length of the field with limited time remaining. The Buffs made it 39 yards before turning it over on an interception to seal the win for Tarleton. Reid totaled 183 yards of punt work on five kicks while also kicking off five times for an average of 63.6 yards per kickoff with a touchback. Bailey Hale’s, Eastern New Mexico University, 28-yard field goal represented all of Eastern's scoring in the second half on Saturday night against Angelo State. The play was critical though, and with turbulent winds and rain, extended ENMU's lead to ten points with less than four minutes to play. Hale's four touchbacks in seven kickoffs limited ASU's field position throughout the game and was a key part of the win. LSC NOTES (Submitted by LSC SID’s) Angelo State * Eastern New Mexico 31, Angelo State 21
  • 4. Eastern New Mexico Last Saturday, the Greyhounds withstood lightning delays, turbulent wins, torrential rain, and a furious Angelo State rally. A late 28-yard Bailey Hale field goal and a career-high 37 carries from senior running back Kamal Cass proved critical, as the Rams pulled within a touchdown after ENMU held a 21-point lead. The Greyhound ground game enabled them to hold the ball for an incredible 42:04 of play and convert 10-of-21 third-down chances, while limiting ASU to four third-down conversions. The result was a 31-21 victory for ENMU. This week, the Hounds visit West Texas A&M for the annual Wagon Wheel Game. Midwestern State Did not play last week. Tarleton State Tarleton defeated West Texas A&M 30-20 for its third straight win. The Texans will visit UT Permian Basin Saturday at 6 p.m. Texas A&M-Commerce The No. 3 Lions had their third consecutive win by at least 29 points with a 38-7 win over A&M-Kingsville to retain the Chennault Cup for a sixth consecutive season. The Lions are 4-0 for the second consecutive year. They lead the LSC in total defense, rushing defense, return average and interceptions. The Lions will have a bye week before a road matchup against Midwestern State on Oct. 7. Texas A&M-Kingsville Texas A&M-Kingsville was defeated at home by rival A&M-Commerce 38-7. They are now 1-3 this season and will be looking for its first conference win of the season this weekend at Angelo State. UT Permian Basin UT Permian Basin overcame a 14-0 start by Western New Mexico to take a 27-14 lead, and held off the Mustangs late in the fourth quarter for a 41-32 win. It marked the team's first-ever Division II and Lone Star Conference victory. Brandon Infiesto ran for 78 yards and a touchdown while Mitchell Leonard caught five passes for 81 yards and a score, and Kristian Brown had 59 yards and a TD on three receptions. The Falcons were outgained 572 to 311 on the day but forced a pair of interceptions and a fumble, scoring on a pick by Chris Hoad in the second quarter and connection on a touchdown the next series the first play after forcing a fumble. West Texas A&M The West Texas A&M football team struggled for three quarters at Tarleton State Saturday in a 30-20 loss...The Buffs spotted TSU a 27-0 lead in the third quarter before closing the deficit, outscoring TSU 13-3 in the final quarter and scored 20 of the last 23 points...Despite the loss, the Buffs had some positives as they set season-highs in passing yards (272) and total yards (407) in the game...WT went 11 of 18 on third down for the best of the season, but three missed field goals in the first half were costly, along with two turnovers leading to seven points for TSU...Junior Markel Steward had a career-high 132 yards receiving on six catches, becoming the first Buff to eclipse 100 yards receiving this season...Redshirt freshman quarterback Justin Houghtaling returned going 17 for 38 with an interception and a career- best 272 yards passing...WT scored a season-high three rushing touchdowns...The quick start by Tarleton State proved to be too much as the Buffs return home to host Eastern New Mexico in the annual Wagon Wheel Game Saturday at 6 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
  • 5. Western New Mexico Despite outgaining UTPB by over 250 yards, the Falcons were able to escape with the nine-point win over the Mustangs. Javia Hall continued his passing barrage marking his third game this season of going for over 400 yards with a near 500- yard performance. After Hall threw for nearly 500 yards against UTPB, he now has the top three passing games in the Lone Star Conference this year. Against the Falcons he tossed for 496 yards for his third game of going over 400 yards and has the third- highest passing performance in a single game in all of Division II. Hall completed 42-70 with four touchdowns, with a long completion of 36 yards. Of his four TD passes, they all went to four different receivers. On the ground, he added 16 yards and a touchdown. Barry was again all over the field for the Mustangs posting 10 tackles, three solo, along with a tackle for loss and three quarterback hurries. # LSC #
