Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico lead the LSC women's basketball standings as both teams remain undefeated. Mackenzie Hailey of Tarleton State was named offensive player of the week after averaging 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two games, while Jasmine Prophet of Angelo State earned defensive player of the week with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks over two games. The LSC women have an overall record of 80-60 against other regional opponents this season.

1. LSC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico are unbeaten in Lone Star Conference action to lead the standings. ASU
is off to the second best start in school history and one of five NCAA Division II teams undefeated on the year
at 12-0 overall.
LSC play continues this week with one league contest Tuesday and five on both Thursday and Saturday.
The LSC women are 80-60 overall. The women’s squads are currently 14-9 combined against the Heartland,
and 9-9 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Mackenzie Hailey, Tarleton State University, SO, Forward, Burleson, Texas, Burleson HS
Hailey was a force for the TexAnns in their return to Lone Star Conference action. The sophomore from Burleson
posted back-to-back double-doubles and averaged 20.5 points per game as she led the TexAnns to an overtime
win over Texas A&M-Kingsville and a near upset of No. 5 Angelo State - both on the road. In Thursday’s game
against the Rambelles, Hailey went for 23 points and 11 rebounds as Tarleton took Angelo State to the brink
of defeat and forced an overtime game at the Junell Center. Hailey followed up with arguably the biggest shot
of her Tarleton career Saturday at Kingsville. With eight seconds on the clock and Tarleton down by three,
Hailey drilled a heavily contested 3-pointer to force overtime, in which the TexAnns went on to win with Hailey
scoring three of Tarleton’s final 6-0 run that secured a win for the TexAnns. For the week, Hailey shot .500 from
the floor on 14-28 shooting, including 5-8 from downtown, and 8-10 at the charity stripe. She averaged 10.5
rebounds per game, dished out three assists, and grabbed three steals.
DEFENSIVE
Jasmine Prophet, Angelo State University, SR, Forward, Jackson, Mississippi, Hightower HS
Prophet led the No. 2/5 Belles in scoring and rebounds last week to keep ASU undefeated. The senior recorded
her second double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds in an overtime win over Tarleton
State. Seven of Prophet’s 16 total rebounds were on the offensive end. She added 12 points, all in the second
half, against Texas A&M-Commerce. The Jackson, Mississippi native also contributed five blocks and three
steals in the two games.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Jau’nae Peevy, UT Permian Basin, led the Falcons offense, averaging 17.5 points on the week, including a
game-high 27 points on 6-9 shooting from 3-point range in the four-point overtime win at Midwestern State.
Artaejah Gay, Texas A&M University-Commerce, was the offensive leader for the Lions in two conference
games last week, averaging 18 points per contest. She shot 41 percent from the field and also averaged nine
rebounds per game, including a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds against Angelo State. Gay is eighth
in the LSC in scoring, averaging 13.2 points per game. She has bumped up her scoring average to 14.7 points in
conference play. She is fourth in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 41 percent on the season.
Savanna James, Cameron University, led CU in to a 1-1 split last week, scoring 23 points and grabbing nine
rebounds in the Aggies win over UTPB and then totaling 13 points and six rebounds in their loss to WT. Her 23
points against the Falcons was her third 20 plus point game in a row, after scoring 26 against A&M-Kingsville
and 23 against Angelo State. James shot just over 48 percent while averaging 18 points during the last two
games, going 3-6 from three point range and 7-8 from the free throw line. She also averaged 7.5 rebounds
during the two game stretch. James is now fourth in the LSC in scoring at 16.2 points per game and third in
rebounding at 8.1 boards per game.
Megan Looney, Western New Mexico, picked up her first two collegiate double-doubles going for 17 points
and 16 rebounds against Eastern New Mexico and then went for 16 points and 13 rebounds versus Texas
Woman’s. Of her 29 rebounds, 21 came on the defensive end. She also added two blocks and shot well from
the field making 14-19 and added five free throws. Looney started both games and averaged 31 minutes.
Whitney Taylor, Midwestern State University, led Midwestern State with 14.5 points against West Texas
A&M and UT Permian Basin last weekend. The Melissa native tallied 10 points, three rebounds and a pair of
assists against West Texas A&M to begin the week. She followed Saturday with a team-high 19 points, matching
a career-high five three-pointers on 5-of-11 shooting from behind the arc, while tying a career-high eight
rebounds against UTPB. Taylor is currently seventh in the LSC with 13.3 points per game and ranks second with
2.6 triples per contest and fourth with a .383 percentage from three-point range.
Taylor Dorsey, Angelo State University, averaged 14.0 points per game to help keep the No. 2/5 Belles
undefeated. The senior dished out 5.5 assists per game last week and scored 21 points against Texas A&M-
Commerce. Dorsey scored 12 of her 21 in the fourth quarter to help ASU pull away from Texas A&M-Commerce.
The Fort Worth native also recorded five steals for the Belles.
Sasha Watson, West Texas A&M University, added two solid outings in a pair of road wins at Midwestern
State and Cameron this week averaging 13.0 points per game, 6.0 assists on 10 of 27 from the field and 6 of 10
from the line. Watson moved into 16th all-time in career scoring with 1,096 points. She had 11 points against
Midwestern State with seven assists and 15 points against Cameron with five assists. She has a team-high 13
games in double figures this season for the Lady Buffs who improved to 11-4 on the year and 4-2 in Lone Star
Conference play.
Kenesha Saygo, Texas Woman’s University, scored team-highs in points in the contests against Western New

1,029 points. Saygo also pulled down 13 rebounds, dished out four assists and had two steals.
Jasmine Hotchkins, Eastern New Mexico University, had a strong week for the ENMU women’s basketball
team, as they remained one of two teams unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play. She poured in a career-high
16 points with three assists in the Greyhounds’ win at Texas Woman’s. Her strong play in the first half helped
the Hounds erase a 7-0 deficit with a 26-0 run. In the first half alone, Hotchkins matched her previous career
high, with 13 points. She dished out a career-best nine assists with no turnovers in a win at Western New
Mexico, in addition to seven points.
Johna McClelland, Eastern New Mexico University, defensive presence helped the Greyhounds move to 6-0
in Lone Star Conference play with two big road wins. She had two blocks at Texas Woman’s and helped limit the
Pioneers to just .286 from the floor in the first half, with three field goals in each quarter. McClelland grabbed
a game-high 13 rebounds, with eight on the defensive glass. At Western New Mexico, she helped limit the
Mustangs to just three first-quarter field goals and Eastern never trailed.
Megan Looney, Western New Mexico, picked up her first two collegiate double-doubles going for 17 points
and 16 rebounds against Eastern New Mexico and then went for 16 points and 13 rebounds versus Texas

Lilley Vander Zee, West Texas A&M University, had probably her best two game stretch of her WT career
as she tallied her first career double-double with a season-high 18 points and a career-best 12 rebounds at
Cameron on Saturday leading the Lady Buffs to a 77-64 win. Vander Zee went 13 of 16 from the field in two
road wins (.813) and 5 of 7 from the line (.714) for the week, pulling down eight offensive rebounds and nine
defensive boards. She recorded six blocks with three in each game as the opposition shot just .344 against WT
for the week. Vander Zee went 7 of 8 from the field in the double-double game against Cameron and was a
perfect 4 of 4 from the line in the game.
Travanti Downes, Tarleton State University, gave Tarleton a huge spark off the bench against No. 5 Angelo
State and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The senior forward had 13 rebounds and four blocks off the bench, including
a career high eight boards and a crucial blocked shot in overtime to help deliver a Tarleton victory over
Texas A&M-Kingsville. With Tarleton leading by two in the final minute, Downes got a hand on the shot from
Kingsville’s Kaylin Roher, which led to a defensive rebound by Tarleton’s Bailey Wipff to keep Tarleton in the
lead. Downes also averaged 8.0 points off the bench in two games for Tarleton.
Jenna Price, Texas A&M University-Commerce, had consecutive double-doubles in two conference games
last week. She had 13 points and a career-high 16 rebounds against A&M-Kingsville, grabbing seemingly every
loose ball for the Lions. She had both a steal and a block in the Lions 78-71 win over the Javelinas. Price
wasn’t done making an impact. She drew 2 charges against Angelo State and collected 13 rebounds, all on the
defensive end. Price also added 14 points in a game that went down to the final minutes. She was an integral
part of the Lions defense that held ASU to just 35.3 percent shooting, well below their average of 43.8 for the
season. That output was the lowest of the season for the No. 5 Belles. Price is averaging a double-double in
conference play, with all three of her double-doubles coming in LSC action. The 6’0 freshman is leading the
conference with 10.8 rebounds per conference game. Her hustle plays have sparked both the offensive and
defensive side of the ball for A&M-Commerce.

The Belles are off to the second best start in school history at 12-0 ... ASU won a pair of close games against
Tarleton State in overtime and pulling away from Texas A&M-Commerce in the fourth quarter ... Jasmine

... Taylor Dorsey scored 21 points against Texas A&M-Commerce marking the eighth time she has eclipsed 20
points in a game ... The Belles will go on the road to face West Texas A&M on Thursday and Texas Permian Basin
on Sunday.
Cameron
The Aggie women split last week’s contests, defeating UTPB 84-62 and then falling to West Texas A&M 77-64.
Against the Falcons, Cameron shot 43 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from three point range, and 77
percent from the charity stripe. CU trailed three points at the break but outscored UTPB 54-29 in the second
half to get the win. Savanna James, Natalie Halbleib, and Jamie Bonnarens combined for 58 points and 22
rebounds. Against WT, CU shot under 35 percent from the field, and after trailing by just one going in to
halftime, Cameron got outscored 18-4 in the third quarter, which created a deficit two big to come back from.
The Aggies had five players reach double-figures in scoring with James leading the way with 13 points.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball team improved to 6-0 in Lone Star Conference play for the third
time in team history and the first since the 1998-99 season. Even more notable, the Hounds boast a 4-0 LSC
mark on the road. On Saturday, a stellar offensive performance from Jasmine Hotchkins helped the Greyhounds
erase a 7-0 deficit at Texas Woman’s after the team missed its first 10 shots. The junior guard poured in a
career-best 16 points on the way to a 60-49 win. Earlier in the win, Eastern tipped off the new year with an 80-
67 win at Western New Mexico with Daeshi McCants notching a double double. On Saturday, Head Coach Josh
Prock became ENMU’s third women’s basketball coach to reach 20 wins in LSC play.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State dropped to 3-9 on the season and 0-6 in LSC play following a 79-53 loss to West Texas A&M
and an 82-78 defeat to UT Permian Basin in overtime last weekend at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Whitney Taylor led
three Mustangs that averaged double figures last weekend with 14.5 points while Kristin Rydell (13.0 ppg) and
Micheline Mercelita (11.5 ppg) also averaged double digits. MSU hits the road for the first time in over a month
this week for games at Western New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico, beginning Thursday in Silver City.

Tarleton State
The TexAnns played back-to-back overtime games for the first time since at least 1979 (when game-by-game
records were kept at Tarleton) as the TexAnns forced No. 5 Angelo State into extra time before falling 74-81 and
then again Saturday at Kingsville when Mackenzie Hailey buried a triple as the regulation buzzer sounded to
force overtime again. Tarleton will return home Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. showdown with Texas A&M-Commerce.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions went 1-1 last week. They had a 78-71 win over A&M-Kingsville and a narrow loss to Angelo State
on Saturday. The Lions are currently 9-4 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. The Lions are fourth in the
conference in scoring and first in offensive rebounding and total rebounding. The Lions face Tarleton State on
Tuesday. A win would bring them to 10-4, which would match the best start to a season in school history.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M-Kingsville fell to A&M-Commerce and Tarleton State to begin the new year... Despite the two losses,
Lily Hospers and Kaylee Kana averaged double digit rebounds and three players averaged double figures (Kaylin
Roher, Tee Moore and Meesha Wade)... the Javelinas shot 44.4 percent from three-point range for the week.
Texas Woman’s
The Pioneers opened 2017 with a 75-46 win over Western New Mexico before dropping a 60-49 decision to
Eastern New Mexico.
UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin women’s basketball split this past week, falling 84-62 at Cameron before rebounding with an
82-78 overtime victory at Midwestern State. Jau’nae Peevy led the Falcons offense, averaging 17.5 points on
the week, including a game-high 27 points on 6-9 shooting from 3-point range in the four-point overtime win
at Midwestern State.
West Texas A&M
The Lady Buffs extended their winning streak to three games with a pair of conference wins at Midwestern
State and at Cameron this week as the team improved to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in LSC play...WT shot 58 of
114 for the week for a .509 clip and was 12 of 30 from beyond the arc (.400)...The Lady Buffs struggled a bit
from the line going 28 of 45, but tied the opposition’s free throw attempts as the opponents went 17 of 28...
The Lady Buffs dominated the glass with a season-high 51 rebounds against Cameron and 67 for the week,
outrebounding the opposition 48.5 to 28...WT entered the week shooting a league-best 48.8 percent from
the field which was fourth nationally...WT head coach Kristen Mattio won her 39th game of her career against
Cameron...Senior Lilley Vander Zee put together her best two game stretch of her WT career going 13 of 16
from the field and 5 of 7 from the line with her first career double-double with 18 points and a career-high
12 rebounds at Cameron...She also had a team-best six rejections for the week...Senior Sasha Watson had 12
assists for the week and moved into 16th all-time in scoring with 1,096 career points...Five players averaged
double figures for the week which was a season-best for a week...The Lady Buff “D” held the opposition to
just 43 of 125 from the field (.344) and 14 of 44 from beyond the arc (.318)...The opponents averaged just 28
rebounds per game and just 58.5 points per game as WT entered the week leading the LSC in scoring defense
at 56.0 which was 30th nationally.
Western New Mexico
The Lady Mustangs fought hard against Eastern New Mexico before falling just short and then ran into a tough
Texas Woman’s team on Thursday. In addition to back-to-back strong performances by Megan Looney, Jordan
Gutierrez tallied 41 points in the two games. Jade Botelho added an 18-point game against the Greyhounds.
Looney picked up her first two collegiate double-doubles going for 17 points and 16 rebounds against ENMU
and then went for 16 points and 13 rebounds versus TWU. Of her 29 rebounds, 21 came on the defensive
end. She also added two blocks and shot well from the field making 14-19 and added five free throws. Looney
started both games and averaged 31 minutes.
