against casual work?
Casual work is where there is no obligation to work a certain amount of hours and the

hourly paid work is when you get paid for each hour you work.

someone this way?
BTEC ExtendedDiplomainCreativeMedia Production
An individual person is paid for a specific job. Someone who makes t-shirts. 12 T-shirts
an hour 64p a shirts. A journalist could be an example of this as they could get paid for
each piece of work they do.
This section is concerned with finding work. You will have an idea of the sort of job you
might like to do in the future. Keeping a specific job role or industry in mind when
completing these questions will help you provide more detailed and focussed answers.
Starting to think about a specific area of employment at this stage will help you in later
sections of the workbook.
Why would you use careers guidance? Provide the names of at least 2 organisations
which can help people plan their careers.

National career service
Creative skill set.org
Totaljobs.com
What is a trade fair?
It is when lots of business in the same industry come together and showcase their latest
products or services.

There is a greater variety in the national press and there is more room to advertise
things. There is a lot of people lookin in the national press so there is a lot of competition
for the job being advertised.
What trade press publications could you use to help you find work? Would this be a
better option than using the national press? Explain your answer using detailed
examples.
BTEC ExtendedDiplomainCreativeMedia Production
Some examples of media press Is the total film magazine. The guardian will be quite
broad in the media sector. Total film magazine would advertise certain jobs being
offered in key aspects of the media for instance an editorial role. This would benefit me
more as my key interest is being an editor where as the guardian may only offer jobs
that have a vague relevance to the media.
What would be a good way of keeping track of and in touch with your personal contacts?
How could this help you when looking for work?
Social media is a great way of keeping in touch with personal contacts. For instance,

LinkedIn and offering help or curiosity with their work.

Networking is where individuals get together to discuss opportunities. This could be
useful as you can bounce of each other's ideas and come use inspiration to come up
with new ideas.

work?
Word of mouth is a very good way of getting and finding work. This isnt a relaibke
method of obtaining work as you are dependent on other people telling you or telling
others about jobs.

or sector and sum up the skills and qualifications you need to do that job as well as
fully investigating what it involves.
What job role would you like? Explain your reasons? What kind of job is it (creative,
technical, editorial etc.)?

I would like to be a film editor. Editors select the best takes and edit them together to create
scenes. In some cases, an improvised line or an actor's interpretation of their role may create
some on-screen magic that can be developed into a new and exciting scene. The Editor works
closely with the Director, crafting the daily rushes into a coherent whole. To ensure that the story
flows effortlessly from beginning to end, each shot is carefully chosen and edited into a series of
scenes, which are in turn assembled to create the finished film. I have chosen to be a film editor
because i Understand dramatic storytelling to create rhythm, pace and tension. Also i am familiar
with a variety of computer editing equipment.

Work experience can be a good way to test out working in industry and can be a way
to get a foot in the door. If you perform well during your work experience or
internship, you will put yourself in a good position if a bigger role becomes available.
BTEC ExtendedDiplomainCreativeMedia Production
There are lots of media organisations that have work experience and intern
programs as well as other companies who specialise in getting placements for their
clients. Be specific when answering the questions below. Give website addresses
and discuss what you have found. The more detail, the better your grade.
Work experience:
What are some of the benefits of work experience?
The benefits of work experience are that you get an in sight to what your wanting to do
in the future.
Where could you look for work experience?
Relatives may have know good places or recent places they have worked at for work
experience. However a good way to look for work experience is through schools and
colleges if you are at the young age so you know that they are up for taking on young
workers to gain experience.
Where would you like to do work experience? How would you go about applying?
i would like to do some work experience at the company digi fish which is located 15
mins away from where i live so it is easy to get to and i like how they have set up the
business and what they do and they are involved with some popular famous brands and
people such as the script. I would go about getting some work experience by going on
the website to get there email address so i could send a friendly email requesting for
some work experience.
As well as looking at your industry skills, employers want people who are able to
work efficiently and communicate effectively. In this section, you should evaluate
your own functional skills level and consider what action, if any, you need to take to
improve your skills in this area.
What grades do employers normally like to see people have for GCSE Maths and English?
c or above preferably
Why is it important to have good functional skills?
because all jobs require basic function skills for example, putting maths and english into reality
to help you with your job and save time. For instance if you need to distance a tripod a certain
amount from the subject you can use your knowledge of ft or meters to work how how far you
need to go.
Are there any areas of Maths, English or basic I.T skills that you need to work on?
I don't need to work on any function skills i am knowledgable about most subjects.
BTEC ExtendedDiplomainCreativeMedia Production
This final section requires you to think about your own skills for employment. You will
be assessed on this as you progress throughout the course. This helps formalise
your ideas on these key skills. Some questions are very similar to those you might
see on a detailed job application or are questions you may be asked in an interview.
Thinking of examples of when you have used these key skills before an interview is a
good way to prepare.
How reliable, committed and efficient are you? Give examples when you have
demonstrated some of these qualities. Do you need to improve any of these areas?
I am very reliable as i turn up to everyone lesson and my attendance to college is 96%
which is very good. I am very committed and I like to show this by finishing all my
college work on time and to the best of my ability.
Attendance and punctuality are very important. What was your attendance and
punctuality like at school? If your figures were good, how will you maintain them? If your
figures need to improve, what steps do you need to take to improve those figures? Be
specific in your answers.
My attendance is 96% which is a very good percentage and my punctuality is on par
with my attendance as sometimes I am late however the majority i am on time.
How important do you think self presentation is during an interview?
self presentation is very important as a lot of employers judge you on how you present
yourself as they have not met you before and they want someone who can look smart
on a daily basis.
Can you think of a time when you contributed to a group project? What was the project?
What role did you take and how successful do you think you were?
i have contributed to a group project when me and my class member were creating our
own song using garage band and the school's instruments. I took leadership and helped
everyone come to decisions and i mainly put all the music together. I used to play the
guitar and trumpet so i used my knowledge of reading music and being able to play
these instruments to get a good grade on this project.
Give an example of when you have had to manage your time carefully and how you
went about it?
i have had to manage my time with the creative media course as all the coursework is
wanted by particular times so i have had to make sure i am up to date with all my work.
Give an example of when you had to take personal responsibility for something. What
was the scenario and what was the outcome?
BTEC ExtendedDiplomainCreativeMedia Production
i had to take personal responsibility for losing my memory stick which had the final song
in my school music class. I Managed to find it a week after however for a week my
classmates and me had no grade for our music.
