STEPS:
■ The	Cape	Light	Compact	wished	to	include	renewable	energy	in	its	supply
■ In	2007,	new	legislation	for	non-profit	energy	cooperatives	resulted	in	the	
creation	of	the	Cape	&	Vineyard	Electric	Cooperative,	CVEC
■ CVEC’s	current	members	are	the	Cape	Light	Compact,	17	towns,	and	the	2	
counties;	Barnstable	and	Dukes
■ CVEC’s	purpose	is	to	develop	renewable	energy/storage	for	its	municipal	
members	and	to	maximize	benefits	for	member	communities
■ CVEC	participants	include	water,	fire	and	school	districts

CVEC’s process of integrating clean energy into community energy systems
has yielded:
❖ A total portfolio of 51 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy resources
❖ Over $12.5 Million in savings to date to CVEC members and participants
❖ Over 61 million pounds in carbon equivalent reduction annually
And:
■ Active intervention in governmental legal proceedings
■ A liaison between industry, regulators and governmental entities
■ Bundling of projects to provide economies of scale
■ Creation of effective procurement practices
■ Utilization of centralized contracts
■ Comprehensive data, matching electric usage to net metering credits

CVEC’s mission: to be a local resource for renewable energy supplies for inclusion in the CLC energy supply STEPS:
  • 4. ■ The Cape Light Compact wished to include renewable energy in its supply ■ In 2007, new legislation for non-profit energy cooperatives resulted in the creation of the Cape & Vineyard Electric Cooperative, CVEC ■ CVEC’s current members are the Cape Light Compact, 17 towns, and the 2 counties; Barnstable and Dukes ■ CVEC’s purpose is to develop renewable energy/storage for its municipal members and to maximize benefits for member communities ■ CVEC participants include water, fire and school districts Cape & Vineyard Electric Cooperative

Cape & Vineyard Electric Cooperative CVEC’s process of integrating clean energy into community energy systems has yielded: ❖ A total portfolio of 51 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy resources ❖ Over $12.5 Million in savings to date to CVEC members and participants ❖ Over 61 million pounds in carbon equivalent reduction annually

And: ■ Active intervention in governmental legal proceedings ■ A liaison between industry, regulators and governmental entities ■ Bundling of projects to provide economies of scale ■ Creation of effective procurement practices ■ Utilization of centralized contracts ■ Comprehensive data, matching electric usage to net metering credits Cape & Vineyard Electric Cooperative Clean Energy: Supply Chain The process of integrating clean energy into community energy systems requires understanding regional supply chains, grid modernization, Green Community incentives, regional cooperatives, and local resources.

  • 12. ■ Expand membership to off-Cape municipal/county districts and entities served by Eversource (SEMA) ■ Provide cooperative’s net net metering credit services to new participants with existing assets ■ Community solar offering NG due to limitations to CVEC as energy cooperative Next: New members and participants
