Connotation Of Richard Cory
Richard Cory is a narrative poem written by Edwin Arlington Robinson. The poem was first
published in 1897,and has been completed in July of that year as a part of The Children of the
Night. In the 1893 is when the economic depression occurred which recall Robinson s most
popular poems. At that time, people could not afford meat and had a diet mainly of bread, often
day old bread selling for less than freshly baked goods. This hard times experience made the
townspeople even more aware of Richard s difference from them, so much so that they treated him
as royalty. The Poem describes a person who is wealthy, well educated, mannerly, and admired by
the people in his town. Robinson uses connotation for Richard Coryhigh on a pedestal above the
townspeople. The townspeople are a lower class than Richard Cory. This suggests that Richard
Cory is coming down, or lowering himself, to the level of the townspeople when he comes into
town. He also does not treat the towns people with no respect he actually wants to make them feel
comfortable with them. Robinson positions the characters to show the differences in their
financial status. He also shows that it is the townspeople, and not Cory, that seem to define these
positions. Cory is perceived as distant royalty, he is perceived as a gentlemen,an aristocraft above
those who worked, are not able to communicate with other people. This is an example of of showing
that Richard Cory isn t as happy as we all think he is, as he seems like the perfect gentlemen, but he
commits suicide one one calm Night.
Although it is written by an American poet and set in an American town, connotation is used to
suggest a noble, royal image of Richard Cory. His name, Richard, is the name of many kings. Also,
Richard contains the word rich, which suggests his wealth. There are many other royal connotations
and images in this poem including: sole to crown, imperially slim, and schooled in every grace.
Crown, imperially and grace all suggest royalty. Robinson uses denotation, or the use of words for
the exact meaning to emphasize this image of Richard Cory being local royalty. Richard Cory was
a rich, well educated man. Robinson writes, And he was rich... and admirably schooled... to make

Essay about Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid is a group of chemicals known as alpha hydroxyl acids or fruit acids. It is mainly
derived from sugar cane, and hence it is a natural product. The citric acid found in oranges and
other citrus fruits also come under the same division as glycolic acids. The glycolic acid acne
treatment can be effectively used to treat some cases of acne.
Glycolic acid is mostly used in cosmetic forms rather than industrial. It is usually used as a skin
exfoliant and a moisturizer. Some proponents of glycolic acid state that the products which contain
less than 10% concentration of glycolic acid is rendered useless. The government considers the
use of glycolic acid over the 10% concentration can prove to be a dangerous material and this is ...

These chemical peels can also be used for improving the appearance of the skin which is damaged
by previous acne scarring.
Characteristics of glycolic acid
Glycolic acid acne therapy is basically derived from sugar cane. It is a member of the alpha
hydroxyl family of ingredients which are used in skin care and cosmetic treatments. the glycolic
acid is an important part of the light chemical peels, used by the skin specialists to loosen the
black heads and also reduce the number of papules which are caused due to acne. Glycolic acid is
also used in superficial to moderate chemical peels which are used to remove the acne damaged
tissues to allow a new and fresh skin to appear.
Effects of glycolic acid acne treatment
Glycolic acid can make the skin sensitive than normal. This is why it is best to always test a small
area of the skin before you start using the glycolic acid acne treatment on your skin.
Glycolic acid exfoliates the skin. The glycolic acid travels deep below the acne blemishes and
breaks down the dead skin cells that are clogging the pores.
Glycolic acid also has an ability to moisturize your skin after it removes the dead skin cells. This
allows the acne prone skin to remain moisturized and prevent drying out and promoting more
production of more oil to compensate for the moisture that was lost in the treatment process.
When you are using the glycolic acid acne products, prevent sun exposure on your skin or

Sororities Research Paper
Sorority life is more than the parties, frat boys and booze. It s about being apart of a community
and the traditions and rituals that have been around of hundreds of years. The average young
woman should consider joining a sorority because of what they stand for and the benefits that it
can bring you. Although sororities can by pricey and seem to have a bad reputation in the media,
they give young women values to live by, networking opportunities for the work force and a long
lasting sisterhood. Movies and the social media do not give sororities justice. They showcase
them as a bunch of mean, ditsy girls who want to party and get their M.R.S. degree but I can
personally say that sororities are much more than the stereotype that they are given by society and
portrayed in the media. Sororities give young women values that are based on ritual... Show more

When I was going through recruitment I had to really think about what I value and try to see
what sororities valued the same thing. You want to be in a chapter that supports you and will
help you grow as a person which is why a values based recruitment is so important. However
there are sororities out there who want recruit based on looks, what brand of clothing you wear
and how much money you have. But being a part of this organization is not about your family
status, the clothes you wear or what you look like: it is about the standards you were raised on
and the values that the chapter sets and are met everyday. When you join a sorority, you are
required to go through new member education where you learn more about your sorority s beliefs
and what they stand for. You are also educated on the traditions and rituals in which your chapter
were founded upon. I have only been in my sorority, Kappa Delta, for a couple of months and it has

A host in an Ethernet network can communicate with another host, only if it knows the Ethernet
address (MAC address) of that host. The higher level protocols like IP use a different kind of
addressing scheme like (IP address) from the lower level hardware addressing scheme like MAC
address.ARP is used to get the Ethernet address of a host from its IP address.ARP is extensively
used by all the hosts in an Ethernet network. In this case there is already an entry for this IP
address,Meaning this host already knows the MAC to IP address mapping for this destination so
there is no need to send out an ARP request instead it will send the ICMP packet directly to

CHS Segmentation In Health Care
Julie, as you indicated, segmentation allowed CHS to provide services specifically selected to meet
the needs of the seven defined population groups. Analyzing all of these data points helped them to
get a comprehensive look at their patient population and the factors that affect their healthcare.
Segmentation helped to improve patient outcomes by targeting specific risk factors in a given
population, as well as estimate the cost of providing care, which helped them with payer contract
negotiations (Quelch Rodriquez, 2015). Other healthcare organization have used segmentation to
provide care to specific patient populations. However, segmentation will often look at clinical and
financial data to identify patients with chronic conditions,

Movie Review
Secretariat
The movie Secretariat was released in 2010 and is based on a unbelievable true story. Penny
Chenery inherits the horses from the family farm in Virginia when her mother and father pass
away. As the farm struggles financially, Penny raises the colt that she won in the coin toss with
Ogden Phipps, one of the richest men in America. In all her efforts to save the farm, her colt
Secretariat, won the Triple Crown (Wallace, R). The unforgettable last scene of the most important
one in the film. The focus is on the final race of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes. If the horse
were to lose this race, Penny would lose the family farm. The camera focuses mainly on the
horses in this scene. Its starts focused on the riders in the starting gate. The hush falls over the
crown, therefore emphasizing the dramatic effect. The camera then moves to the track as the
horses come out of the starting gate. A following shot is used as the horses make their way
around the track. Every now and again the camera focuses on the actors in the grandstands to
show their nervousness during the event. Multiple times a hand held shot was used on both the
horse and the rider. The film makers strapped a camera to the under side of the horse as well as
the rider s chest. These shots are nothing less than unique but since the movement of the horse is
so dramatic, it is difficult for the camera to get a good and clear shot. Several long shots

Essay on Culinarian Cookware Marketing Hbr Case
To:Donald Janus From:XXX Date:XXX Subject: Advising a price promotion plan for Culinarian
cookware [pic] Culinarian is a strong brand that is ready for a successful 2007. We have reviewed
the marketing mix of push vs. pull tactics, compared them to the industry, and examined past
performance in this area. Most importantly, we have examined 2004 s price promotion and drawn
conclusions that have allowed us to make recommendations for this coming year. Outlined below
are our findings, with accompanying appendixes. Culinarian uses an acceptable blend of push and
pull tactics; they primarily utilize push for their premium cookware products. This is advantageous
for Culinarian because the majority (55%) of consumers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking to 2007, a price promotion program would enable Culinarian cookware to: 1. contribute
to the minimum 15% revenue growth s objective set by the firm s CEO Audrey Roux 2. increase
its market share on the premium cookware segment and 3. build brand awareness among
consumers. We recommend Culinarian to run a 15% price promotion on the CX1 and DX1
categories of products during the high peak seasons (June July and November December), and to
advertise nationally on this promotion. We feel that a 15% discount rate is more adapted to the
brand s premium identity than the 30% discount rate suggested by Brown. Indeed, it shows more
consistency with the high end pricing strategy of the group ($200 rather $199.99) and seems fairly
adapted to consumers expectations since even at a rate of 10% that half of the retailers ran in 2004
the promotion remained successful. A 15% discount rate should encourage retailers to maintain the
suggested discount rate rather than lowering it because Culinarian would request a lower
contribution from retailers: from a 4% to a 3% loss in their margin. We believe that the best way to
enhance sales and to maintain the premium identity of the brand is to run that price promotion on
the two lower priced products: CX1 and DX1. This would avoid cannibalization between these two
products that target high

The Benefits Of Radio Frequency Identification
RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification, is becoming the new technology through which data can
automatically be collected and transferred, along with the capability of tracking assets such as
inventory, machinery, or even people. RFID readers collect, store, and relay important data to other
application systems, and receives this information from RFIDtags. The two types of RFID tags are
active and passive. Active RFIDs use power and can broadcast signals to the RFID readers, while
passive RFIDs are powerless and only communicate with the reader when within a specified
distance. Passive RFID s are typically used to identify things, whether it be patients at a hospital,
drug authentication, inventory, etc; they are very similar to barcodes.... Show more content on

Patient identification with the use of wristbands containing identity, medical history, and insurance
information have been implemented in the University College Hospital in Galway, Ireland. Other
applications still pending are RFID use as sensors for temperature and chemical sensing to protect
hospital blood supply, and use as alerts or triggers to protect patients dangerous or emergencies
during surgeries.
Hospitals are finding all kinds of uses for RFID systems in order to improve safety and save money
long term. Many of these same uses can be applied elsewhere as well. For our senior project,
RFIDs will be put to use in a very similar way as hospitals have started to do so. We plan to use
active and passive RFID tags, in addition to RFID readers, all connected to a main database, in
order to essentially create zones on drilling or production rigs that allow only designated
personnel. In order to do so, active RFIDs will be placed on IDs given to all working personnel
while RFID readers will be set up at selective zones on the rig, so that sensors may be used to
alarm the individual or staff that he or she is in a restricted area for their level of clearance. Other
passive RFID tags will be placed in equidistant locations in each zone so that their interaction with

Comparing Britta And Vig On The Gate Into The Citadel
Britta and Vig looked toward the gate into the Citadel. The flags over the walls sank to half
mast, and the lines going into the city grew longer, extending across the bridge into the hamlet.
What is happening? Vig wondered aloud. A bearded merchant turned in his saddle, The guards
have been ordered to search everyone entering the city. Not sure why. Vig stared for a moment
before whispering to Britta, This does not seem right to me. Me either, Britta agreed. She
glanced around. Wait! We have an option. Follow me. Wheeling their horses around, they rode
back a short distance, before veering off into a narrow street fronted by several boarded up store
fronts. In front of one, bearing an extremely weathered signboard, she yanked the reins and
dismounted. Vig joined her. She tried the front door, but it was locked. Slipping around the side,
she tried another door, but it too was inaccessible. We need to get inside. Let me try, Vig offered,
then kicked the door with his boot, it shuddered, then swung open. Impressive, Britta said. Big
feet, Vig rejoined. One of the advantages of being a dwarf. Inside, they found darkness and
cobwebs. Britta found an old lamp with some oil in it and using her flint and steel, managed to
get it lit. But even with the lamp light, the interior still looked like a cave. Britta surveyed the
floor and tapped it with her foot. Vig watched her. What are you looking for? A trapdoor. I

Discuss The Advantages Of The North And South In The Civil...
The North and South both had many advantages in the civil war. The North had more advantages
which was a main reason that led to them winning the war. The North had a population of 22
million and the South had a population of 5.5 million. The North Had a very large advantage in
population. Perhaps the North s biggest advantage was their network of roads, canals, and
railroads. The North had 22,000 miles of railroad track to move soldiers and supplies through the
north. The South only had 9,000 miles of track. The war improved the north s economy. The
production of goods such as coal, iron, wheat, and wool increased. For the north, exports to Europe
doubled. In the South exports decreased because of the Union blockade. The Union had money with
a more developed economy, banking system, and currency called greenbacks (Deverell White 513).
The South had to start printing its own money. Some states printed their own money, which led to
financial chaos. Finally, the Union took advantages of its strengths. Union general... Show more

The south had better generals that had experience in the mexican war with a strong military
tradition and were educated at military schools. The Confederacy was more motivated than the
north because they were fighting to keep their way of life and what they believed in. The South
had many farms that provided food for soldiers so they never ran out of food. The Confederate
soldiers had more experience with guns and horses because they lived in rural areas. The South s
best advantage was their strategy. It only had to defend itself until the north grew tired of fighting.
The south was fighting on their own soil that they were familiar with. It caused the north to travel
large distances, which made them have to maintain long supply lines. The geography helped the
south because of the wilderness and rivers in the south made it hard for union to travel. The south

Savvy Characters
UNWINDING THE FEATURES OF SAVVY
Have you ever felt unwanted? In the book Savvy by Ingrid Law, we are able to see the characters
lives unfold into an unforseen ending. Through the setting, plot, theme, characterization, point of
view, style, presentation, and cultural/other implications, we can see the story line revealed through
many means of problem solving and problem creating. One of the aspects of this story that is
consistent is the setting. The setting of this book changes when a scene changes. From the
beginning of the book, the Beaumonts reside on the edge of Kansas and Nebraska in order to stay
away from the community of the savvies in the Beaumont family. One example of danger seen
from the savvies which are powers would be when Fish s savvy created rapid storms causing
danger to other people. Fish is the brother of Mibs. His savvy comes into effect, only at the start
of the book. In the beginning of the book, the kids are in the setting of Mib s birthday party at the

Spooky Superstitions In The 21st Century
Spooky Superstitions Step on a crack and you will break your mother s back, a long ago,
superstition but yet is still heard in the 21st century. Today lots of the things humans use has been
through both innovation and science, but yet people still are wary of superstitions even though
most have been disproven. The 5 main superstitionsthat are still prevalent in the 21st centuryare
buildings not having a 13th floor, opening an umbrella inside, saying bless you, naming boats,
and the most recently big one, that in 2012 the world would end. When looking at the first
superstition that buildings do not have a 13th floor the origin story is very interesting mainly
because it does not have its own origin story but because it stems from another superstition. This
superstition is the number 13 and how it is an unlucky number. The origin of the number 13 is
when looking at history 12 was considered a perfect number, the ancient Sumerians developed a
numeral system based on the use of 12 and it was heavily integrated into our time measurement
system because of 2 12 hours in a day, 12 months in a year. Spiritually, there was 12 apostles, 12
Greek gods, 12 tribes of Israel, 12 of Hercules labours all of these containing the number 12 and
13 was considered an unlucky number because there wasn t a 13 of anything when a number 12
became 13 something bad happened or just was bad lucklike for example the 13th person to sit at
the last supper was Judas who then betrayed Jesus or 12 gods

Dirt Is Good Summary
Germs! Germs! Germs! Yucky? Eewww?! Over the years, we have grown to see germs as bad,
something to totally avoid and get rid of. Parents most especially with newly born babies and

when things like how to properly look after their child, when to give him antibiotics or how often
they should sterilize his pacifier, bog them? Well. thanks to Jack Gilbert, the co author of a new

Over sterilizing the kids environment is not advantageous. 2. Keeping the children from ever
getting dirty, like preventing them from going out into the backyard and playing in the mud, is
not helpful. Just make sure that as they become filthy, bring them in and sterilize their hands
with antiseptic wipes, and then remove that dirt gets from their faces. 3. Keeping the kids away
from animals is not good either. It s fine to wash their hands if there s a cold or a flu virus

In fact that could be extremely beneficial for the child s health. 4. Using sanitizers is usually

The Confederate Flag And Its Racist
One of the most trending topics in America right now is the Confederate Flag and whether or not
it s racist. 42 percent think the flag represent southern heritage and the other 42 percent think it s
racist and should be taken down. 75 percent believe it s racist and only one in ten will agree that
it is southern heritage. Depending on what region is asked about if it is racist, there are different
answers. The Midwest say it is racist and the south, of course, say it s not racist. A poll showed that
African Americans, Democrats, and the highly educated were more likely to perceive the flag
negatively. The Confederate States of Americacame into existence on February 4, 1861. It had six

The first reason the Confederate flag should be taken down is because it is a symbol of hate. More

Essay on Presidency of Theodore Roosevelt
After the assassination of President McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt inherited a growing empire
when he took office in 1901. The U.S. had annexed Hawaii in 1898 and Spanish American War

Last few years in the business history of United Kingdom has witnessed ups and downs in terms
of business collaborations such as in the case of collaboration between UK and Vietnamese
technology companies or . The business and legal experts were curious to know the reasons behind
the development. On the bright side, there were emergence of Asia and Africa as attractive
investment destinations, expansion of free market economy, increasing market share of Small and
Medium Enterprises etc. on the other legal changes in the domestic laws. This paper specifically
pursues those legal changes that may have a cascading effect on collaborations.

Tata Steel Tata Steel is the largest steel producer in India. The main project described is the
development of a model for adjusting the mix of products to compensate for different levels of
power shortages at various times in the day. Prior to describing this project, the presenters show
how they used a productmix model to improve profitability, comparing its results to those of their
previous strategy of maximizing output. The electricity shortage model built on this one with the
added element of incorporating the fixed costs associated with the adjustments necessary to
compensate for a lack of power. The value in this tape is at several levels. The users of the model
make the point that they were skeptical that anyone in management science could tell metallurgists
how to improve their operation of a steel plant.

The speakers do a good presentation on the use of sensitivity analysis to determine how much
scrap to buy as a function of the price of scrap. Seeing this tape is as valuable for future
managers in the developed countries as it is for those in less developed countries: developed
countries have no lock on either knowledge or technology, and not using the available tools of
management science will hurt firms operating in highwage areas of the world when faced with
competition that not only pays lower wages but also uses sophisticated

Information Technology has Passwords and Viruses and Lost...
One of the greatest problems that we experience in our daily lives that has been brought upon us
by Information Technology (IT) are security problems, these include but are not limited to weak
passwords, the same password for everything, viruses, and lost PDA s. These problems are
dangerous and put the business in a state of vulnerability where they are more liable to be
hacked. Having the same password for everything can endanger your computer and make it
more liable to hacking because if a hacker finds out one password from a non important site, he
/she may try it on a number of other things, such as your credit cards or your checking account,
as well as your business account. A survey done by Ponemon Research Institute and Juniper
Networks shows that 32% of US companies have been hacked at least 2 to 3 times in the last
year due to security problems. Also, 41% claimed that they lost at least half a million US dollars
due to the hack attacks. 28% of those attacks happened offsite, probably where there was a
hotspot, in which case they were most likely not on a https site or on a VPN. A hactivist group
called the TeaMpoiSon posted 857 usernames and passwords from the United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP), World Health Organization (WHO), Organization for
Economic Co operation and Development (OECD), UNICEF, and other assorted groups. This
probably made the vulnerability factor of the business go down because they probably lost a lot of
business information and it was

Marketing Of A Target Market
2.Literature Review
Philip Kotler argues that the key to successful marketing is the STP strategy that is, segmentation,
targeting and positioning (Kotler, 1997). Amongst many other marketers, it has been realised that
in order to successfully meet customers demands, it is necessary to recognise that not all of the
target market for a certain product are alike. Therefore in order to effectively meet the target
markets needs it is essential to segment the market.
2.1.Segmentation
Identifying various segments of a target market can be achieved by examining geographic,
demographic, psychographic and behavioural differences among consumers. Segmentation is a
methodological process of dividing a market into distinct homogenous groups that might require
separate experiences or marketing service mixes (Venugopal and Baets 1994) (Sulekha Goyat.
2011). There are numerous ways how market segments can be identified (Mazanec, 1997; Wedel
Kamakura, 1998). The process by which segmentation takes place consists of three main elements:
segmentation, targeting and positioning (Kotler, 1998). Figure 1 gives an overview of these elements
Figure 1
Geographic segmentation
The geographic segmentation divides the target customers into segments based on geographical
areas such as nations, regions, cities and neighbourhood types, it represents one of the oldest
methods of segmentation, and additionally it is one of the most

Further, U.S. consumers face stubbornly high unemployment and slow economic growth. In
the weakened economy, Kraft had to drive their sales volume with more advertising and a
greater range of products and prices, in what they called a good, better, best strategy. (Martinne

burning platform for Kraft, our customers and our industry. Kraft shares were down 22 cents, or
0.5 percent, at $44.48 in late morning trade. The broader market, as measured by the S P 500
index, was down more than 2 percent, a day. Kraft said net income rose to $470 million, or 79
cents per share, from $417 million, or 70 cents per share, a year earlier. Revenue increased 3
percent to $4.61 billion. Most of the increase came from volume gains and selling a more
expensive mix of products, with a smaller contribution from price increases. (Martinne Geller).

share and revenue growth in line with the rest of the North American food and beverage market.
Kraft s revenue in the current fourth quarter would be flat to down due to a comparison with the

The Awakening And A Doll s House
The Awakening and A Doll s House both share similarities and differences. They were both written,
at the time, toward different audiences. The Awakening was written in 1899, in English, and A Doll
s House was written in 1879, In Norwegian. Yet, despite these differences these works both find
ways to explicate the same themes and ideas of feminism, and the concept of self individuality. The
culture, at the time, did not promote the self individuality of women. The books main ideas,
therefore challenges these notions and illuminate the ideaof freedom as both Edna and Nora, the
central characters, try to find it. Nevertheless, freedom comes at a price and consequences that
cannot be controlled by the individual. Although both books illustrate this theme differently, The
Awakening by Kate Chopinand A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsenboth tell that freedom isn t
necessarily free and that it requires sacrifice.
Both their main characters, Edna and Nora, go through journeys in search for freedom and both
these characters are in conflict with their surroundings. Edna Pontellier, a New Orleans woman
who is married to a businessman, finds it stifling that he is gone for business trips and tries to
find love outside their relationship, and Nora, an upper middle class housewife, is conflicted by
whether or not to leave Torvald. Her marriage to Leonce Pontellier was purely an accident [...] (18

Pancreas Case Study
1.Describe exocrine and endocrine functions of the pancreas.
The pancreas contains exocrine and endocrine functions that together allow for proper homeostasis
and digestion to occur in the human body. The pancreas contains exocrine glands that produce
enzymes that are crucial to aiding in digestion. The enzymes that help digest food include: trypsin
and chymotrypsin, along with amylase an enzyme located in the mandibular ramus that helps digest
carbohydrates, and lipase that is located posterior to the tongue, which aids in digesting lipids.
When the foods enter the stomach, pancreatic juices are released from the ducts. The pancreatic duct
is connected to the common bile duct which is at proximately to the location of the small intestine.

What is the most common etiology for pancreatitis? Explain some of the consequences of this
disease.
Pancreatitis occurs when the pancreatic enzymes become activated and are obstructed in the
pancreas, this causes secretion buildup and inflammation which in return cause pain. Pancreatitis is
associated, but not limited to alcoholism, gallstones, abdominal surgery, high calcium levels in the
blood, high triglycerides levels in the blood, and pancreatic cancer. (National Cancer Institute)
Some complications of pancreatitis may include infection. Pancreatitis can make the pancreas
vulnerable to bacteria. Kidney failure may be another component of pancreatitis and often can be
treated with dialysis. Breathing problems may also result from this condition. Pancreatitis can cause
chemical changes in how the lungs function, causing a change in the level of oxygen in the blood.
According to The National Cancer Institute, if pancreatitis is left untreated it can lead to
hyperglycaemia, back and abdominal pain, parotid gland enlargement, pancreatic pseudocyst, and

Compare And Contrast Crime And Punishment In Ancient Egypt
This paper is to compare and contrast crime and punishment in the ancient Mesopotamia and
Egypt mainly from the following three perspectives: religion, the purpose of punishment and
women. In terms of religion, we can tell from the Laws of Hammurabi and the Egyptian papyri
that the views of religion were both considered to be supreme in the ancient states. But there are
some differences between the views of the religion, especially in the objective to which the
people of two states believed in respectively. In the Laws of Hammurabi, there are some examples
that prove the status of the nature, like the river, and, in some cases, the river was the symbol of
justice which could prove whether the accused were guilty or not. People believed... Show more

Scotland Act 1998 Essay
The Parliament of the United Kingdom and the Scottish Parliament are the main sources of law in
Scotland. However, the Scotland Act 1998 and the Human Rights Act 1998 are two pieces of
legislation, produced by the Parliament of the United Kingdom, which have had a significant
impact on the development of the law in Scotland. They have made important changes to how law
is made in Scotland and how the Scottish legal system works. This essay aims to examine what it
is these Acts are intended to do, and discuss the impact they have had on the development of law in
Scotland.
Until the Acts of Union 1707, which formed the Parliament of Great Britain (the Parliament of the
United Kingdom from 1801), Scotland had a separate Parliament which was able ... Show more

meaning that the Scottish Parliament may legislate on any matter not reserved to the UK
Parliament, including health, education, the legal system, national heritage, housing, local
government, the police and fire services, environmental affairs, and economic development. The
Scotland Act 1998 also provides that the Scottish Government can change the basic rate of income

Parliament. Therefore, the Scottish Parliament may legislate for any issue which is not a reserved
matter, and as long as the legislation doesn t contravene the criteria set out by Section 29(2). This
has had an impact on the development of the law in Scotland as it means that the Scottish
Parliament may create legislation, however it also means that the Scottish Parliament may only

Important Reason For Success For Selling The Product Or...
Throughout history, exchange of goods and services has been a common affair. The act dates back
to medieval times, initially occurring in Ancient Greece in the 4th Century (Dixon, 1970; Shaw,
1995). As humanity understood the fundamental opportunities that reside within this phenomenon,
innovation began to take place, driving extension and growth for this swapping technique. Also
known as marketing, it has been defined by Kotler as a set of processes that aim to create,
communicate, deliver value to people, and to handle customer relationships by implementing
methods that benefit the company and its stakeholders (2005). When cross regional transportation

Hence to support innovations made towards marketing strategies that aim at adapting to cultural
distinctions. As culture is one of the main determinants for product sale, it is important to
understand the differences that require implementation of proper modifications. Changes must be
made to adapt and suit the various needs and wants originating from cultural contrasts.
Having established the direction of the essay, the next section will focus on producing a thorough
explanation of culture. This will build momentum for extensive research and analysis about the role
of this phenomenon in global marketing. As support, a substantial amount of literature will be
reviewed to comprehend specialist opinions. Once the evaluation is finalised, the ultimate section
of the attempt will produce manifestations of remarks and recommendations for future studies.
Culture can be interpreted as a set of ideas with purpose to design living standards. It is an
arrangement of intellectual abilities that governs a person s behaviour, beliefs, values, language,
and more (Weber, 1978). This allows distinguishability between people with different norms. For a
developed understanding of the various aspects, Dutch psychologist Geert Hofstede has formulated
a theory on cultural dimensions. Through this tool, Hofstede explains how culture affects values.
Furthermore, Hofstede relates these values to behaviour. For his study, the

Religion And State During Soviet Russia
RELIGION AND STATE IN POST SOVIET RUSSIA.
INTRODUCTION
Religion has had a special history in Russia, having to go through periods of total control over the
society to being reduced to nothing when the political power wanted to be the only thing people
could believe in. By 1988, the persecutions against the clerics and the believers stopped in the
USSR. Since then, the religious landscape has been evolving in Russia and former soviet republics.
Religion takes a specific place in society, and plays a peculiar role.
From a western, secular perspective, it seems that Russia has not yet reached a place where it is
really laic. It is believed that political power and religion are tightly intertwined, and that one can
t go without the other. However, when we look further than what the media tell us, we actually
notice how complicated this relations are. This is why this essay is going to explore how in
Russia, religion and political power really work with each other, and to what extent. It is meant to
see how religion can be manipulated by politicians, and why, but more specifically how can
religion shape a society.
What is the place, the role and the purpose of religion in the post soviet Russia, and to what means
and what extent can it be used by the political power ?

would be best to look at some sort of USB dongle. However I would recommend she downloaded
all of her music at home so as she didn t eat into her data allowance.
As for e mail Sharon could create two separate e mail accounts with windows hotmail as she could
personalise her e mail addresses to her liking.
Conclusion
The laptop I am going to recommend is the ACER Aspire S3 391 Ultrabook.Overall it is the best
laptop for Sharon s business and personal needs. It provides her with the software she needs to
create her own advertisements, invoices, letters and to keep track of her accounts for her
business. It also provides her with the ability to surf the internet and go shopping online as well
as download music and due to the Acer having a DVD re writer allow her to create her own CDs
through windows media player. The Acer also is the lightest laptop in this comparison and therefore
will be easy for Sharon to transport between her beauticians and home.

GDP is an important measure that indicates an economy s performance and affects employment,
inflation and foreign trade among others. Extensive research has been done on the factors that
impact real GDP growth, but many different models exist and there is no consensus that is
universally accepted. One important influence is government expenditure but economic theory
does not clearly state the relationship between government spending and GDP growth. Free market

Organizational Change And Leadership Processes
Organizations are constantly changing; be it through new members, new rules, or new leaders. It is
an inevitable part of organizational life. The book defines the change of organizations through
organizational life cycles. Simply put, organization life cycles look at how organizations change
through time due to the internal and external situations that influence the change. When a change
occurs within an organization, new rules, leadershipstyles, and communication needs to be adopted
in order to cope with the change. This paper will explain the concepts of organizational change and
leadership processes by applying it to my own personal experience of being a member and
president of UC Santa Barbara s Khmer Student Association, a student run cultural club.
The Khmer Student Association, or KSA, is a Southeast Asian focused cultural organization that
focuses on spreading awareness of Cambodian culture on campus through weekly meetings
discussing current events and history related to Cambodia and social events that include game and
movie nights, retreats, and potlucks for members to feel more comfortable. After joining KSA
during my first year of college, I transitioned from being a member, to becoming treasurer, and now
president. I have witnessed change in leadership, membership, and dynamics within the club for
three years. During my first year of being a member, the leadership style was carefree and

Technical Innovation, Policy Making And Industrial Strategy
Recommendations
While Autonomous car presents enormous potential and benefits, there is a long way to go before
we achieve fully self driving automation. Going forward, there are three areas we would like to
advise on: technical innovation, policy making and industrial strategy.
Firstly, there have been active innovations in modular functionalities. In the technologies list
below, most of them are still in the early stage of the S curve and it will take long time for the
trial, testing and adoption (for example, it took almost 50 years for the complete adoption of
airbags), especially when safety is the number one concern in the automobile sector. Therefore,
open and continuous innovation is the essence to improve functionality, technical performance and
reliability, and to address technical issues.
Automatic braking: it senses an imminent distance with another vehicle or a velocity related

Electronic Stability control: a computerized technology improves vehicle s stability by detecting

ESC compares the driver s intended direction to the vehicles actual direction.
Automatic cruise control: it keeps the car at a constant speed by taking over the throttle of the car.

Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have

what is going to occur in the novel. Atwood uses this quote at the beginning of the novel to
foreshadow that certain characters in the novel will be forced to fulfill certain roles. In the
novel, The Handmaid s Tale, the actions of Offred and the willingness of people of Gilead to

How come we can go from Pennsylvania to New Jersey without paperwork but pay a different
amount of state tax for purchases made in the different state? The answer is federalism, federalism
is having or relating to a system of government in which several states form a unity but remain
independent in internal affairs. These discissions were made in the Federalist Papers written by the
Founders. The federalist papers were a collection of eighty five essays written to the newspapers in
the 1780 s to encourage the remaining states who had yet to ratify the constitution. Alexander
Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay under a pseudonym wrote to persuade the remaining
colonies that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The states have the power to change anything they want drinking age, tax, driving age, schooling
but there are some things that they can t do such as coining money, have external affairs, or
declare war they are all powers that are left to the national government. The idea of a federalistic
government is that there are levels of government there is national level, state then local and
depending where you are in the United States you need to follow those rules. The power is not
always divided equally though. Even though states have right given in the 10th amendment if the
nation wants a state to change something they can refuse funding until they change what they
want to be changed. This happened in 1980 when New Jersey changed their drinking age to 19
and the state was at an all time high with 18 20 year olds losing their lives 88 young people died
while intoxicated on New Jersey roadways that year.
In 1995 the government withdrew highway funding due to the fact that people who drive
motorcycles were not required by law to wear helmets while driving this was established and then
reinstalled in 1991. President Clinton then passed a law that eliminated the speed limit and the
helmet law now still three states have no rules against wearing helmets.

Obama Pros And Cons Government Shutdown
The word on the hill is that if Republicans don t cave and fund Obama s DHS amnesty scheme
that they will be blamed by the people and pay for it at the polls. Where have we heard that
before? Back in 2013 the government was partially shutdown for 16 days over funding fight that
centered around Obamacare. Republicans eventually folded and Barry got his boondoggle fully
funded. The argument at the time was that Republicans would be blamed for the shutdown and
2014 would be a disaster, even to the point of Democrats retaking control of the House. Of course,
we know what happened. A historic ass kicking by the Repubs not only increased their numbers in
the House, but gave them the Senate. Fast forward to 2015 where a DHS bill that includes Obama s

The Divisions among Black People
Growing up as a kid, I was not concerned about the complexion of my skin, let alone the
complexion of my family and friends. In my family, some members have really fair colored skin
that would make you question if they re white, while others are a very dark black complexion.
So once I got in high school when Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites became popular
my eyes started to open to a new form of ignorance. If you re active on social media then you ve
definitely seen tweets and Facebook statuses referring to the Team Light Skin vs. Team Dark
Skin controversy in the black community, especially pertaining to and among females. Most
comments are on the lines of Light skin is the best skin , Oh you re cute for a dark skin girl , or
She s light skin, so she has to be stuck up . The black community refers to the two skin tones as if
they re two different races and one is better than the other. To sum up this behavior in one word, I
would have to use colorism. Colorism is defined as prejudice or discrimination based on the
relative lightness or darkness of the skin; which usually occurs within one s own ethnic group
(Dark Girls 2012). If a female is light skinned or of lighter skin complexion, she s seen as prettier
and conceited. On the other hand, a dark skinned female is seen as being ugly, dirty and probably
lacks self respect. But in the eyes of different ethnic groups, especially Caucasians, we are all seen
as Black or African American. The division

Personal Elements Of Cultural Identity
Cultural identity is feeling or belonging to a group. For example Language, Religion, Jobs, or
even daily life are some elements of culture. Your language is important so you can communicate
with people like you. Religion is really important because more than likely you won t get along
with another tribe that doesn t believe what you believe or believes the opposite. Clothing is also a
cultural identityfor example Tongan men wear sarong which is kind of like a skirt but for a man.
By their clothing you can kind of determine their culturesome wear the same thing but you can
definitely tell they aren t from america. There are many different religions which separates different

In Asian cultures making eye contact is rude but in American culture it is very polite and shows
you are listening to someone when they are talking. There are obviously so many different
things that make a culture but the one i want to focus on is FOOD! The food is the most
important part in my opinion because you can make kind of the same food but in different
cultures make it their way and make it their own. For example in America when we make
noodles it may be different from the way Mexico makes noodles they love spicy foods so they
might make their noodles really spices as ours just have normal spices added to it or cheese to
make mac and cheese. The way we eat our food is different we use forks or our fingers but in
China they use chopsticks to eat their food. Pizza is originally from Italy but now we have it
here and i m sure people have changed it over the years and added their own likings to it to make
it taste like their culture. Traditional foods are foods that have been passed down to new

Class Structure. Two words that have a division between one another based on the spelling
difference and its structure rules. It was written this way to separate one word for the other so
there is no confusion between each word. A similar role plays in the novel, The Kite Runner, as
the author, Khaled Hosseini, evokes two different worlds of the protagonists, Amir and Hassan, in
which one lives a Pashtun upper class life and the other a Hazara lower class life. Hosseini
expresses the importance of Amir and Hassan relationship and how it affects their relationship with
their social rank. In the novel, The Kite Runner, Hosseini portrays the divisions of Afghan society

Pashtuns were viewed as the dominant group of power and prosperity, who practice the
religious belief of Sunni Islam. Whereas, Hazaras were considered the peasant class that made a
minority sect of Islam in the country, who practice Shi a. The turning point, segregated the
Hazara from the Pashtuns when the Pashtuns had oppressed the Hazaras (Hosseini 9). Amir was
perceived as a Pashtuns and Hassan as a Hazara, in which Amir inhabited disparate when he
stated, Because history isn t easy to overcome. Neither is religion. In the end, I was Pashtun and
he was Hazara, I was Sunni and he was Shi a, and nothing was ever going to change that. Nothing
( Hosseini 25). This expresses that no matter how strong their bond could be, nothing was going to
make Amir and Hassan similar. Not only was this a strong belief of Amir, but School text books
barely mentioned them [Hazaras] and referred to their ancestry only in passing. (Hosseini 9). This
quote from the Kite Runner, goes to show that the Hazaras were practically erased from textbooks
due to the fact that the Pashtuns were in control. Ethnic differentiation not only portrays a contrast,

Cultural Dominance Of Male Over Female
Antonio Gramsci s hegemony defined as the dominance of one group over another has been
occurring since the beginning of time. It is where a dominant force exerts its influence in society
and exert their own power over other groups. Hegemony is seen with the cultural dominance of
male over female. Because of this dominance men have assumed the right to determine what is
masculine and what is not. With hegemony, here will be always an opposing force that plans a
strategy in order to combat and defeat their adversary. Homosexualityis often depicted as inferiority.
Heterosexual men see homosexual men as adversary to be defeated. Men has defined their
masculinityby very specific set of behavior, habits and activities acting strong, being involved in
sports and becoming engineer or doctors. Any men who do not behave according to these
characteristics is viewed as effeminate . A young man like the actor in the movie who does not
engage in vigorous sports but is interested in theater and poetry and shows sensitivity is
perceived as being a Sister Boy a code word for as being Gay . This is a hint that a lack of what
society perceives as masculinity is linked to homosexuality. Homosexuals are attracted to people of
their gender. Homosexuals are usually human beings very aware of their gender, their masculinity
or femininity while being attracted to members of the same sex or gender. In the movie, this very
sensitive and apparently fragile young man falls in love with an older

A Report On Clinical Trails
One of the real worries with respect to bioactivity screening is resulting sufficient clinical trials in
human subjects, which are regularly ailing as a rule. The nonattendance of clinical trails seriously
obstructs the development of the bioactive part recognized as an option pharmaceutical or helpful

The Epic Of Gilgamesh Essay
Tonisia Tutt Professor Andre World Literature 1 October 11, 2015 The Epic of Gilgamesh does
not quite have a happy end. Truthfully, Gilgamesh is not successful in his mission. It is
shortsighted and deceived to expect that Gilgamesh, the saint, must be effective in his journey to
hold the characteristics of courage. An unsuccessful journey not harsh any more than a
courageous ending is essentially joyful. For recognitions of this, we need to look no more distant
than the plenty of thoughtful legends of great writing the stories of Homer, Virgil s Aeneid, and
even Beowulf of the Anglo Saxon abstract convention. The Illiad end with the slaughter of Troy
and the passing of Achilles. The Odyssey, in spite of the fact that it sees the saint restored home,
in any case includes an entirely tough cost. The Aeneid, in like manner, shows in disaster. Like
Achilles, Odysseus, Aeneas, and various other exemplary legends, Gilgamesh too shows those
qualities vital to an ordinary scholarly saint, none of which needs to do, truth be told, with the
unique idea of pleasure. In spite of the fact that achievement is quite unimportant to the bravery of
a specific journey, maybe the first indicate considered in Gilgamesh is that the legend might really
make progress. His level of progress depends to a limited extent on what he needs to accomplish
and what he accomplish. Given the included creative component of the epic that they are

Minstrelsy Research Paper
The Complex Nature of Minstrelsy In 1828, a white stage performer named Thomas Dartmouth
Rice became famous for his new song, Jump Jim Crow, which he performed in blackface as Jim
Crow, a primitive, well known black trickster character. Although Rice was not the first man to
perform in blackface, he was the first to so overtly imitate and mock blacks. The Jim Crow routine
inspired other performers to wear blackfaceand perform as caricatures of blacks in order to degrade
them. Due to Rice, minstrelsy became the prominent American theatrical form. Beginning in the
1840s, minstrel performances featured both black and white actors. In 1855, many all black groups
joined the minstrel scene. Historians typically portray minstrelsy as an art... Show more content on

In the 1820s, the abolitionist movement was growing, and passionate abolitionists actively fought
to abolish slavery. The creation of minstrelsy was a response to violent anti slavery actions. For
example, a jury indicted four white men in 1822 for telling slaves that they had the right to fight
for their freedom, and three black men published writings in 1829 openly calling for a massive
revolt. Northerners, such as Rice, who was from New York, created minstrelsy to convince the
North and its congressmen to stop fighting for abolition. They believed that holding middle class
values, such as a strong work ethic, patriarchal authority, propriety, and maturity were the markers
of deserving freedom. Consequently, minstrel shows characterized male slaves as submissive, lazy,
irresponsible, immature, and, therefore, unqualified for freedom. Minstrel shows were extremely
popular and performances targeted all socioeconomic groups. Minstrel groups would tour and
perform both in prestigious opera houses and makeshift stages. Thus, whites initially created
minstrelsy to convince the country, specifically the North, of their pro slavery

Dr. Pepper Case Analysis
Dr. Pepper Company
I.Case Summary
From being a practically unknown soft drink company to now being one of the highest performing
of the 1000 largest manufacturing firms, Dr. Pepper has evolved to become an international
beverage organization. Dr. Pepper began its roots back in 1880, in Waco, Texas, when a young
soda jerk invented a soft drink which he named after his father in law (Dr. Pepper). Robert
Lazenby began to market the drink on commercial basis in 1885, and it was not until 1922 that an
extensive sales and distribution program was initiated. The current president of the organization is
Mr. Woodrow Wilson Clements together with Joe K. Hughes who is the executive VP of the firm.

This will ensure consumers that they are getting a greater quality at cheaper price and boost

3.An opportunity exists for the firm to venture into new product lines like energy drinks and other
culinary applications.
C.Internal Weakness
1.The biggest weakness of Dr. Pepper is that it is not diversified. The firm is finding hard to
differentiate its products from that of the competitors. The potential of firm is not being tested and
evaluated properly on which even Mr. W.W Clements says, It would be criminal to branch off into
something else .
2.Another weakness in the firm comes from the ages of the executive officers. Most of the
professionals in the firm are growing old and close to their retirement age. Since they have a lot of
experience and may work beyond their retirement age, but it would be wise for the firm to take
young professionals under their guidance.
3.The firm is producing and wasting its effort and resources in Salute and Waco, fountain syrups,
which only accounts for one percent of dollar sales.
4.Dr. Pepper is one brand domestic company. Lack of product diversification and differentiation,
and also because of the disadvantage against multination organizations like Coca Cola and Pepsi
CO., Dr. Pepper is not the leading seller in any major United States market.

Bartleby, the Scrivener Story Analysis
Have you ever seen a person so disconnected from society and from what is considered to be
normal that he or she made you question their sanity? If so, you could relate with the lawyer in
the story Bartleby, the Scrivener. In this story, the narrator, who is a lawyer, has a simple man
named Bartleby respond to a job opening as a scrivener. Unbeknownst to the lawyer, Bartleby did
not act in the manner the lawyer would have expected. Bartleby is so outside of what is
expected that it is almost as if he had died and no longer had to live up to society s standards. In
this story, Bartleby is portrayed as a lifeless zombieand is alone with nowhere to go, no one to see,
nowhere to be, and no purpose to live for.
The first case on which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To copy someone else s work nonstop all day every day would get really tiring, but the lawyer
says Bartleby gorges himself on copying papers and documents. Usually when someone gorges
him or herself in something, it is something that they like or enjoy. In Bartleby s case this is
what he does, not because he enjoys it but because it s all he has. This is evident when the
lawyer says, He ran a day and night line, copying by sun light and by candle light. (108) This job is
all he had in his life.
Another case in which Bartleby shares similarities to that of a zombie is when he repeats
throughout the story, I prefer not to. No one would ever say these words to his or her boss. That
would be crazy, but Bartleby said these words multiple times to the lawyer, his boss. This is
similar to the characteristics of a zombie, because zombies do not ever listen to anyone. They do
what they want to do and nothing more.
Bartleby took the job as a scrivener to try and find a purpose for his life, but soon after his boss
abandons him, he ends up in jail. At this moment in his life he sees that he truly has nothing. His
quest for purpose as a scrivener has failed. He is at the end of his life, not because he is old or sick
physically, but because he has nothing to live for. While in jail he refuses to eat and soon he dies.
His reason for living died a long time ago, though. His pursuit to be a scrivener was

Evaluation Of A Randomized Survey On The Groups That...
Analysis I plan to complete a randomized survey on the groups that chose to attend my
meetings. The survey will analyze three aspects including when drunk driving is most likely to
occur, what is the leading factor that influences people to get behind the wheel after drinking,
and if the driver notices any difference in his or her driving capability. After completion of the
survey, I will compare the differences and similarities and see if I can come to a conclusion on
how to decrease this from occurring. For example, I will pay attention to which holidays or days
in general that driving while under the influence occurs the most. This will give me an idea as
to when I should set up a solution to this problem that our community faces on daily bases.
Planning My ultimate goal for this program plan is to encourage and educate people throughout
our community on the consequences of driving while under the influence. In order to achieve the
goal of my plan, I have established a goal and some objectives to support the goal. Therefore,
there will certain times that meetings will be held to ensure individuals are getting valid
information on the issue. The success of this plan will be based on the availability of information

  • 2. Connotation Of Richard Cory Richard Cory is a narrative poem written by Edwin Arlington Robinson. The poem was first published in 1897,and has been completed in July of that year as a part of The Children of the Night. In the 1893 is when the economic depression occurred which recall Robinson s most popular poems. At that time, people could not afford meat and had a diet mainly of bread, often day old bread selling for less than freshly baked goods. This hard times experience made the townspeople even more aware of Richard s difference from them, so much so that they treated him as royalty. The Poem describes a person who is wealthy, well educated, mannerly, and admired by the people in his town. Robinson uses connotation for Richard Coryhigh on a pedestal above the townspeople. The townspeople are a lower class than Richard Cory. This suggests that Richard Cory is coming down, or lowering himself, to the level of the townspeople when he comes into town. He also does not treat the towns people with no respect he actually wants to make them feel comfortable with them. Robinson positions the characters to show the differences in their financial status. He also shows that it is the townspeople, and not Cory, that seem to define these positions. Cory is perceived as distant royalty, he is perceived as a gentlemen,an aristocraft above those who worked, are not able to communicate with other people. This is an example of of showing that Richard Cory isn t as happy as we all think he is, as he seems like the perfect gentlemen, but he commits suicide one one calm Night. Although it is written by an American poet and set in an American town, connotation is used to suggest a noble, royal image of Richard Cory. His name, Richard, is the name of many kings. Also, Richard contains the word rich, which suggests his wealth. There are many other royal connotations and images in this poem including: sole to crown, imperially slim, and schooled in every grace. Crown, imperially and grace all suggest royalty. Robinson uses denotation, or the use of words for the exact meaning to emphasize this image of Richard Cory being local royalty. Richard Cory was a rich, well educated man. Robinson writes, And he was rich... and admirably schooled... to make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Glycolic acid also has an ability to moisturize your skin after it removes the dead skin cells. This allows the acne prone skin to remain moisturized and prevent drying out and promoting more production of more oil to compensate for the moisture that was lost in the treatment process. • 4. Sororities Research Paper Sorority life is more than the parties, frat boys and booze. It s about being apart of a community and the traditions and rituals that have been around of hundreds of years. The average young woman should consider joining a sorority because of what they stand for and the benefits that it can bring you. Although sororities can by pricey and seem to have a bad reputation in the media, they give young women values to live by, networking opportunities for the work force and a long lasting sisterhood. Movies and the social media do not give sororities justice. They showcase them as a bunch of mean, ditsy girls who want to party and get their M.R.S. degree but I can personally say that sororities are much more than the stereotype that they are given by society and portrayed in the media. When I was going through recruitment I had to really think about what I value and try to see what sororities valued the same thing. You want to be in a chapter that supports you and will help you grow as a person which is why a values based recruitment is so important. However there are sororities out there who want recruit based on looks, what brand of clothing you wear and how much money you have. But being a part of this organization is not about your family status, the clothes you wear or what you look like: it is about the standards you were raised on and the values that the chapter sets and are met everyday. When you join a sorority, you are required to go through new member education where you learn more about your sorority s beliefs and what they stand for. You are also educated on the traditions and rituals in which your chapter were founded upon. I have only been in my sorority, Kappa Delta, for a couple of months and it has already played a ... • 7. Secretariat Movie Analysis Maddie Buxton 12 October 2017 Comp 4th Movie Review Secretariat The movie Secretariat was released in 2010 and is based on a unbelievable true story. Penny Chenery inherits the horses from the family farm in Virginia when her mother and father pass away. As the farm struggles financially, Penny raises the colt that she won in the coin toss with Ogden Phipps, one of the richest men in America. In all her efforts to save the farm, her colt Secretariat, won the Triple Crown (Wallace, R). The unforgettable last scene of the most important one in the film. The focus is on the final race of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes. If the horse were to lose this race, Penny would lose the family farm. The camera focuses mainly on the horses in this scene. Its starts focused on the riders in the starting gate. The hush falls over the crown, therefore emphasizing the dramatic effect. The camera then moves to the track as the horses come out of the starting gate. A following shot is used as the horses make their way around the track. Every now and again the camera focuses on the actors in the grandstands to show their nervousness during the event. Multiple times a hand held shot was used on both the horse and the rider. The film makers strapped a camera to the under side of the horse as well as the rider s chest. These shots are nothing less than unique but since the movement of the horse is so dramatic, it is difficult for the camera to get a good and clear shot. Several long shots ... We have reviewed the marketing mix of push vs. pull tactics, compared them to the industry, and examined past performance in this area. Most importantly, we have examined 2004 s price promotion and drawn conclusions that have allowed us to make recommendations for this coming year. Outlined below are our findings, with accompanying appendixes. Culinarian uses an acceptable blend of push and pull tactics; they primarily utilize push for their premium cookware products. This is advantageous for Culinarian because the majority (55%) of consumers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking to 2007, a price promotion program would enable Culinarian cookware to: 1. contribute to the minimum 15% revenue growth s objective set by the firm s CEO Audrey Roux 2. increase its market share on the premium cookware segment and 3. build brand awareness among consumers. We recommend Culinarian to run a 15% price promotion on the CX1 and DX1 categories of products during the high peak seasons (June July and November December), and to advertise nationally on this promotion. We feel that a 15% discount rate is more adapted to the brand s premium identity than the 30% discount rate suggested by Brown. Indeed, it shows more consistency with the high end pricing strategy of the group ($200 rather $199.99) and seems fairly adapted to consumers expectations since even at a rate of 10% that half of the retailers ran in 2004 the promotion remained successful. A 15% discount rate should encourage retailers to maintain the suggested discount rate rather than lowering it because Culinarian would request a lower contribution from retailers: from a 4% to a 3% loss in their margin. We believe that the best way to enhance sales and to maintain the premium identity of the brand is to run that price promotion on the two lower priced products: CX1 and DX1. This would avoid cannibalization between these two products that target high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Benefits Of Radio Frequency Identification RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification, is becoming the new technology through which data can automatically be collected and transferred, along with the capability of tracking assets such as inventory, machinery, or even people. RFID readers collect, store, and relay important data to other application systems, and receives this information from RFIDtags. The two types of RFID tags are active and passive. Active RFIDs use power and can broadcast signals to the RFID readers, while passive RFIDs are powerless and only communicate with the reader when within a specified distance. Passive RFID s are typically used to identify things, whether it be patients at a hospital, drug authentication, inventory, etc; they are very similar to barcodes.... Patient identification with the use of wristbands containing identity, medical history, and insurance information have been implemented in the University College Hospital in Galway, Ireland. Other applications still pending are RFID use as sensors for temperature and chemical sensing to protect hospital blood supply, and use as alerts or triggers to protect patients dangerous or emergencies during surgeries. Hospitals are finding all kinds of uses for RFID systems in order to improve safety and save money long term. Many of these same uses can be applied elsewhere as well. For our senior project, RFIDs will be put to use in a very similar way as hospitals have started to do so. We plan to use active and passive RFID tags, in addition to RFID readers, all connected to a main database, in order to essentially create zones on drilling or production rigs that allow only designated personnel. In order to do so, active RFIDs will be placed on IDs given to all working personnel while RFID readers will be set up at selective zones on the rig, so that sensors may be used to alarm the individual or staff that he or she is in a restricted area for their level of clearance. Other passive RFID tags will be placed in equidistant locations in each zone so that their interaction with the active ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The flags over the walls sank to half mast, and the lines going into the city grew longer, extending across the bridge into the hamlet. What is happening? Vig wondered aloud. A bearded merchant turned in his saddle, The guards have been ordered to search everyone entering the city. Not sure why. Vig stared for a moment before whispering to Britta, This does not seem right to me. Me either, Britta agreed. She glanced around. Wait! We have an option. Follow me. Wheeling their horses around, they rode back a short distance, before veering off into a narrow street fronted by several boarded up store fronts. In front of one, bearing an extremely weathered signboard, she yanked the reins and dismounted. Vig joined her. She tried the front door, but it was locked. Slipping around the side, she tried another door, but it too was inaccessible. We need to get inside. Let me try, Vig offered, then kicked the door with his boot, it shuddered, then swung open. Impressive, Britta said. Big feet, Vig rejoined. One of the advantages of being a dwarf. Inside, they found darkness and cobwebs. Britta found an old lamp with some oil in it and using her flint and steel, managed to get it lit. But even with the lamp light, the interior still looked like a cave. Britta surveyed the floor and tapped it with her foot. Vig watched her. What are you looking for? A trapdoor. I remember reading about one in a history book at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The North had more advantages which was a main reason that led to them winning the war. The North had a population of 22 million and the South had a population of 5.5 million. The North Had a very large advantage in population. Perhaps the North s biggest advantage was their network of roads, canals, and railroads. The North had 22,000 miles of railroad track to move soldiers and supplies through the north. The South only had 9,000 miles of track. The war improved the north s economy. The production of goods such as coal, iron, wheat, and wool increased. For the north, exports to Europe doubled. In the South exports decreased because of the Union blockade. The Union had money with a more developed economy, banking system, and currency called greenbacks (Deverell White 513). The South had to start printing its own money. When looking at the first superstition that buildings do not have a 13th floor the origin story is very interesting mainly because it does not have its own origin story but because it stems from another superstition. This superstition is the number 13 and how it is an unlucky number. The origin of the number 13 is when looking at history 12 was considered a perfect number, the ancient Sumerians developed a numeral system based on the use of 12 and it was heavily integrated into our time measurement system because of 2 12 hours in a day, 12 months in a year. Amongst many other marketers, it has been realised that in order to successfully meet customers demands, it is necessary to recognise that not all of the target market for a certain product are alike. Therefore in order to effectively meet the target markets needs it is essential to segment the market. 2.1.Segmentation Identifying various segments of a target market can be achieved by examining geographic, demographic, psychographic and behavioural differences among consumers. Segmentation is a methodological process of dividing a market into distinct homogenous groups that might require separate experiences or marketing service mixes (Venugopal and Baets 1994) (Sulekha Goyat. 2011). There are numerous ways how market segments can be identified (Mazanec, 1997; Wedel Kamakura, 1998). The process by which segmentation takes place consists of three main elements: segmentation, targeting and positioning (Kotler, 1998). The Scotland Act 1998 also provides that the Scottish Government can change the basic rate of income tax. Previously, before the Scotland Act 1998, all taxation powers were the domain of the UK Parliament. Therefore, the Scottish Parliament may legislate for any issue which is not a reserved matter, and as long as the legislation doesn t contravene the criteria set out by Section 29(2). It is an arrangement of intellectual abilities that governs a person s behaviour, beliefs, values, language, and more (Weber, 1978). This allows distinguishability between people with different norms. • 31. Religion And State During Soviet Russia RELIGION AND STATE IN POST SOVIET RUSSIA. INTRODUCTION Religion has had a special history in Russia, having to go through periods of total control over the society to being reduced to nothing when the political power wanted to be the only thing people could believe in. By 1988, the persecutions against the clerics and the believers stopped in the USSR. Since then, the religious landscape has been evolving in Russia and former soviet republics. Religion takes a specific place in society, and plays a peculiar role. From a western, secular perspective, it seems that Russia has not yet reached a place where it is really laic. It is believed that political power and religion are tightly intertwined, and that one can t go without the other. However, when we look further than what the media tell us, we actually notice how complicated this relations are. This is why this essay is going to explore how in Russia, religion and political power really work with each other, and to what extent. It is meant to see how religion can be manipulated by politicians, and why, but more specifically how can religion shape a society. What is the place, the role and the purpose of religion in the post soviet Russia, and to what means and what extent can it be used by the political power ? 1. As for e mail Sharon could create two separate e mail accounts with windows hotmail as she could personalise her e mail addresses to her liking. Conclusion The laptop I am going to recommend is the ACER Aspire S3 391 Ultrabook.Overall it is the best laptop for Sharon s business and personal needs. It provides her with the software she needs to create her own advertisements, invoices, letters and to keep track of her accounts for her business. It also provides her with the ability to surf the internet and go shopping online as well as download music and due to the Acer having a DVD re writer allow her to create her own CDs through windows media player. The Acer also is the lightest laptop in this comparison and therefore will be easy for Sharon to transport between her beauticians and home.

When a change occurs within an organization, new rules, leadershipstyles, and communication needs to be adopted in order to cope with the change. Technical Innovation, Policy Making And Industrial Strategy Recommendations While Autonomous car presents enormous potential and benefits, there is a long way to go before we achieve fully self driving automation. Going forward, there are three areas we would like to advise on: technical innovation, policy making and industrial strategy. Firstly, there have been active innovations in modular functionalities. In the technologies list below, most of them are still in the early stage of the S curve and it will take long time for the trial, testing and adoption (for example, it took almost 50 years for the complete adoption of airbags), especially when safety is the number one concern in the automobile sector. Therefore, open and continuous innovation is the essence to improve functionality, technical performance and reliability, and to address technical issues. • 47. Cultural Dominance Of Male Over Female Antonio Gramsci s hegemony defined as the dominance of one group over another has been occurring since the beginning of time. It is where a dominant force exerts its influence in society and exert their own power over other groups. Hegemony is seen with the cultural dominance of male over female. Because of this dominance men have assumed the right to determine what is masculine and what is not. With hegemony, here will be always an opposing force that plans a strategy in order to combat and defeat their adversary. Homosexualityis often depicted as inferiority. Heterosexual men see homosexual men as adversary to be defeated. Men has defined their masculinityby very specific set of behavior, habits and activities acting strong, being involved in sports and becoming engineer or doctors. Any men who do not behave according to these characteristics is viewed as effeminate . A young man like the actor in the movie who does not engage in vigorous sports but is interested in theater and poetry and shows sensitivity is perceived as being a Sister Boy a code word for as being Gay . This is a hint that a lack of what society perceives as masculinity is linked to homosexuality. Homosexuals are attracted to people of their gender. Truthfully, Gilgamesh is not successful in his mission. It is shortsighted and deceived to expect that Gilgamesh, the saint, must be effective in his journey to hold the characteristics of courage. An unsuccessful journey not harsh any more than a courageous ending is essentially joyful. For recognitions of this, we need to look no more distant than the plenty of thoughtful legends of great writing the stories of Homer, Virgil s Aeneid, and even Beowulf of the Anglo Saxon abstract convention. The Illiad end with the slaughter of Troy and the passing of Achilles. The Odyssey, in spite of the fact that it sees the saint restored home, in any case includes an entirely tough cost. The Aeneid, in like manner, shows in disaster. Like Achilles, Odysseus, Aeneas, and various other exemplary legends, Gilgamesh too shows those qualities vital to an ordinary scholarly saint, none of which needs to do, truth be told, with the unique idea of pleasure. In spite of the fact that achievement is quite unimportant to the bravery of a specific journey, maybe the first indicate considered in Gilgamesh is that the legend might really make progress. They believed that holding middle class values, such as a strong work ethic, patriarchal authority, propriety, and maturity were the markers of deserving freedom. Consequently, minstrel shows characterized male slaves as submissive, lazy, irresponsible, immature, and, therefore, unqualified for freedom. Minstrel shows were extremely popular and performances targeted all socioeconomic groups. Minstrel groups would tour and perform both in prestigious opera houses and makeshift stages. Thus, whites initially created minstrelsy to convince the country, specifically the North, of their pro slavery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. Descriptive Essay About My Chocolate Brother MY Chocolate Brother It was right after lunchtime and Dad was so busy chasing down Sarah that he made a mistake. One that Mom would never make. My little brother didn t realize what Dad meant was no more chocolate. But what can you expect from a five year old? When you get to my age, you can tell better what parents mean when they say confusing things, but five year old boys hear only what they want to hear. Or so Mom says. So Luke did just what Dad didn t want him to. He took another chocolate bar, a big one, from the snack bin, opened it and took a huge bite. I figured he d get into ... • 55. Dr. Pepper Case Analysis Dr. Pepper Company I.Case Summary From being a practically unknown soft drink company to now being one of the highest performing of the 1000 largest manufacturing firms, Dr. Pepper has evolved to become an international beverage organization. Dr. Pepper began its roots back in 1880, in Waco, Texas, when a young soda jerk invented a soft drink which he named after his father in law (Dr. Pepper). Robert Lazenby began to market the drink on commercial basis in 1885, and it was not until 1922 that an extensive sales and distribution program was initiated. The current president of the organization is Mr. Woodrow Wilson Clements together with Joe K. Hughes who is the executive VP of the firm. The firm is facing a pressure of product ... C.Internal Weakness 1.The biggest weakness of Dr. Pepper is that it is not diversified. The firm is finding hard to differentiate its products from that of the competitors. The potential of firm is not being tested and evaluated properly on which even Mr. W.W Clements says, It would be criminal to branch off into something else . 2.Another weakness in the firm comes from the ages of the executive officers. Most of the professionals in the firm are growing old and close to their retirement age. Since they have a lot of experience and may work beyond their retirement age, but it would be wise for the firm to take young professionals under their guidance. 3.The firm is producing and wasting its effort and resources in Salute and Waco, fountain syrups, which only accounts for one percent of dollar sales. 4.Dr. Pepper is one brand domestic company. Lack of product diversification and differentiation, and also because of the disadvantage against multination organizations like Coca Cola and Pepsi CO., Dr. Pepper is not the leading seller in any major United States market. 5.Dr. ... • 56. Bartleby, the Scrivener Story Analysis Have you ever seen a person so disconnected from society and from what is considered to be normal that he or she made you question their sanity? If so, you could relate with the lawyer in the story Bartleby, the Scrivener. In this story, the narrator, who is a lawyer, has a simple man named Bartleby respond to a job opening as a scrivener. Unbeknownst to the lawyer, Bartleby did not act in the manner the lawyer would have expected. Bartleby is so outside of what is expected that it is almost as if he had died and no longer had to live up to society s standards. In this story, Bartleby is portrayed as a lifeless zombieand is alone with nowhere to go, no one to see, nowhere to be, and no purpose to live for. The first case on which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To copy someone else s work nonstop all day every day would get really tiring, but the lawyer says Bartleby gorges himself on copying papers and documents. Usually when someone gorges him or herself in something, it is something that they like or enjoy. In Bartleby s case this is what he does, not because he enjoys it but because it s all he has. This is evident when the lawyer says, He ran a day and night line, copying by sun light and by candle light. (108) This job is all he had in his life. Another case in which Bartleby shares similarities to that of a zombie is when he repeats throughout the story, I prefer not to. No one would ever say these words to his or her boss. That would be crazy, but Bartleby said these words multiple times to the lawyer, his boss. This is similar to the characteristics of a zombie, because zombies do not ever listen to anyone. They do what they want to do and nothing more. Bartleby took the job as a scrivener to try and find a purpose for his life, but soon after his boss abandons him, he ends up in jail. At this moment in his life he sees that he truly has nothing. His quest for purpose as a scrivener has failed. He is at the end of his life, not because he is old or sick physically, but because he has nothing to live for. While in jail he refuses to eat and soon he dies. His reason for living died a long time ago, though. His pursuit to be a scrivener was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Evaluation Of A Randomized Survey On The Groups That... Analysis I plan to complete a randomized survey on the groups that chose to attend my meetings. The survey will analyze three aspects including when drunk driving is most likely to occur, what is the leading factor that influences people to get behind the wheel after drinking, and if the driver notices any difference in his or her driving capability. After completion of the survey, I will compare the differences and similarities and see if I can come to a conclusion on how to decrease this from occurring. For example, I will pay attention to which holidays or days in general that driving while under the influence occurs the most. This will give me an idea as to when I should set up a solution to this problem that our community faces on daily bases. Planning My ultimate goal for this program plan is to encourage and educate people throughout our community on the consequences of driving while under the influence. In order to achieve the goal of my plan, I have established a goal and some objectives to support the goal. Therefore, there will certain times that meetings will be held to ensure individuals are getting valid information on the issue. The success of this plan will be based on the availability of information and the ability to encourage and prove to individuals how dangerous this really is. Goal: Assist and encourage people who abuse alcohol in the Pittsylvania County Region to refrain from driving after drinking. Objectives 1)100% of participants will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
