2. INTRODUCTION
Minix, the first open source operating system,
written by ANDREW S. TANENBAUM in C,
about 12000 lines of code.
 In 25 August 1991 first Linux Kernel written
in C by by LINUS TORVALDS, a Finish
graduate student.
 Its functionally similar to Unix (a clone).
 Inspired by and replacement of Minix.
 Linus' Minix became Linux.

Portable - Portability means software's can works
on different types of hardware's in same way. Linux
kernel and application programs supports their
installation on any kind of hardware platform.

and it is community based development project.
