10,739,349 Creative professionals have a personal connection at a company that’s hiring
Keep courses?
Smile!
This is the first impression you’re giving an employer
It does not have to be fancy – just use your cellphone camera in front of a plain background. Wear a nice shirt and don’t forget to smile!
Add a background! But keep it appropriate
Tell people what you’re excited about now and the cool things you want to do in the future.
Keep it to 10 words
Formula could be:
“Title, Aspirational, or Functional Area”
“What you’re doing now” + “What you want to do”
“Marketing Grad and Social Media Branding Specialist Seeking Internship”
Maybe put that if you don’t have a specific job yet?
Take a break! Make your unique URL
Option to make your own as well
List specific experiences
Can be in 1st or 3rd person, does not matter up to your discretion
BA 353 has set requirements for how you will make your LinkedIn profile – something to keep in mind
Have this! The only place on your profile where you can show your interests and talk about yourself other than what’s on your resume
Add images or documents to your experience creates a visual portfolio along with standard resume information
WORK projects go here, projects for your classes go somewhere separate
Base line – copying and pasting your resume, but here you have the option to expand and go into further detail
Good example of expanding further instead of copying/pasting what’s on your resume - Kirsti
Add 5 skills now
Endorse someone only if you have seen them exhibit that specific skill – endorsements can be tricky and its NOT like facebook
Look at how people prefer to be contacted
CLASS projects go here in the projects tab
Might be something they’re trying to phase out
Only ask for recommendations from people if you could write one for them as well! Reciprocate!
Taken to this screen after clicking “Ask to be recommended”
Can see the recommendations you’ve received, given, and where you can give recommendations
From the drop down menu will be a list of your experiences, schools, etc. so you pick what you want to be recommended for
This is what it will look like when you ask for a recommendation!
I recommend personalizing the message, especially because you’re asking someone you know personally and it stands out
Recommendation will appear underneath the work experience the recommendation pertains to
Recommend a friend so they can recommend you/help you in the future!
Only if they are close to you and endorse only if you seen them utilize that skill
Also where you can remove/block
Go use the tool
Also go look around at the Home, Notables and Recommendations on the Find Alumni tool
Be careful with endorsements, this is not facebook
Add a connection but send a personal message
Go Join a Group
Profile needs to be up to date if you’re considering applying for jobs – all you do is attach your resume and cover letter (Bell Helicopter example)
Search anonymously but you can’t see who viewed your profile
See who views your profile by not being anonymous
Questions?
Slides for 3/24 meeting only!!
Like a resume review, highlighting the transferrable skills in their experience, grammar, etc.
Informative Summary what motivates you, what you’re skilled at and what’s next
Let the Personal Details and Test Scores be their decision but warn them about it
Don’t post any happy birthdays
Update your LinkedIn profile to pull up as potential example
Reciprocate for recommendations
I will post this is SharePoint so it’s there as a reference!
