MPLS

MPLS overcomes limitations of traditional IP routing by bringing the intelligence of routing with the performance of switching, and supports VPNs, QoS, and effective bandwidth management. MPLS works by assigning short fixed-length labels to packets, and routers use the labels stored in forwarding tables to make switching decisions instead of long IP addresses.
Fhrp notes
There are three types of First Hop Redundancy Protocols (FHRP): HSRP, VRRP, and GLBP. HSRP and VRRP elect an active router to forward traffic for a virtual IP address, while GLBP allows multiple routers to act as active forwarders. Only GLBP supports load balancing traffic across multiple routers. All FHRP protocols run per VRF and VDC.
UDP - User Datagram Protocol
Overview of UDP protocol.
UDP (User Datagram Protocol) is a simple extension of the Internet Protocol services. It basically provides simple packet transport service without any quality of service functions.
Unlike TCP, UDP is connection-less and packet-based. Application PDUs (application packets) sent over a UDP socket are delivered to the receiving host application as is without fragmentation.
UDP is mostly used by applications with simple request-response communication patterns like DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, RIP or RPC.
Since UDP does provide any error recovery such as retransmission of lost packets, the application protocols have to take care of these situations.
Segment Routing
This document provides an introduction to segment routing. It discusses:
- The objective of segment routing is to enable source routing without requiring state in intermediate nodes.
- Segment routing allows encoding paths as sequences of topological sub-paths called segments. Segments can represent nodes, links, or services.
- The IETF SPRING working group is standardizing segment routing to address issues with scalability of traffic engineering and fast reroute with protocols like RSVP-TE and LDP. Segment routing aims to provide these capabilities without per-flow state.
Vlan
VLANs logically segment LANs into broadcast domains by using switches to assign ports and their attached devices to VLAN groups based on their MAC address, IP subnet, or switch port. This allows devices that are physically located on different floors or buildings to belong to the same logical LAN segment while preventing Layer 2 broadcasts from crossing VLAN boundaries. VLAN trunk links between switches allow multiple VLANs to be transmitted over the same physical link.
Spanning tree protocol
This document discusses the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) which provides a loop-free network topology by placing ports into blocking states. It describes how STP elects a root bridge, establishes root and designated ports, and transitions ports between blocking and forwarding states. GLBP (gateway load balancing protocol)
GLBP (Gateway Load Balancing Protocol) is a Cisco proprietary protocol that attempts to overcome the
limitations of existing redundant router protocols by adding basic load balancing functionality. GLBP is a
virtual gateway protocol similar to HSRP and VRRP.
However, unlike its little brothers, GLBP is capable of using multiple physical gateways at the same time.
As we know, a single HSRP or VRRP group represents one virtual gateway, with single virtual IP and MAC
addresses. Only one physical gateway in a standby/redundancy group is responsible for packet
forwarding, others remain inactive in standby/backup state.

VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP) is a Cisco proprietary protocol that propagates the definition of Virtual

information to all the switches in a VTP domain. VTP advertisements can be sent over ISL, 802.1Q, IEEE
802.10 and LANE trunks. VTP is available on most of the Cisco Catalyst Family products.
Ospf area types
OSPF stub areas, totally stubby areas, and not-so-stubby (NSSA) areas are specialized area types that control the routing information distributed within the area. Stub areas allow only Type 1 and 2 LSAs, and the ABR will advertise a default route into the stub area. NSSAs function similarly but also allow an ASBR to advertise external routes using Type 7 LSAs, which the ABR converts to Type 5 LSAs. A totally stubby area receives no Type 3 LSAs, while a totally NSSA area also filters Type 3 LSAs and relies on a default route from the ABR.

HUAWEI Switch HOW-TO - Configuring link aggregation in static LACP mode
1. Link aggregation bundles physical interfaces into a logical interface to increase bandwidth and provide redundancy. It can be configured in static LACP mode.
2. In static LACP mode, LACP packets are exchanged to determine active and inactive member interfaces of the link aggregation group. Some interfaces will be active for data traffic while others are inactive backups.
3. This document provides instructions on configuring static LACP mode on a Huawei switch: create an Eth-Trunk interface, add GigabitEthernet ports as members, set the LACP priority to determine active/backup interfaces, and verify the configuration. The same configuration is required on the peer switch.
SP Routing Innovation with Segment Routing, VXLAN and EVPN - Ismail Ali
This document discusses how cloud principles are being applied to routing to make it more scalable and software-driven. Mchannel
M-Channel is a group communication middleware for MANETs that is built on top of JGroups. It incorporates the jOLSR MANET unicast protocol and OMOLSR overlay multicast protocol. This allows it to provide lightweight and efficient group membership, failure detection, and flow control that leverage the underlying topology information from jOLSR. Developing collaborative applications over MANETs is simplified using M-Channel as it handles much of the transport and communication functionality.
MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching)
This document provides an introduction to Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), including its motivation, basic concepts, components, protocols, operation, advantages, and disadvantages. MPLS combines IP routing with ATM switching to address some of the limitations of IP routing, such as lack of quality of service, while being less complex and expensive than ATM. It works by assigning short, fixed-length labels to IP packets at the edge of the network which are then used for fast packet forwarding within the network core.
GMPLS (generalized mpls)
GMPLS extends MPLS to manage additional interface types beyond packet interfaces, such as TDM, wavelength switching, and fiber switching. It allows for establishing connection-oriented LSPs and provides routing, resource discovery, connection management, and restoration functions. GMPLS supports various interface types including packet, TDM, wavelength, and fiber switching. It faces challenges around routing, signaling, and management due to the large number of links and long setup times involved in photonic networks.

Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
