The apprenticeship toolkit:
Using technology to support delivery of the new apprenticeship standards

> Apprenticeships are a growth area
> Government target of three million starts by 2020 – a tenfold increase from the
current level of 300,000 apprentices
> Introduction of employer levy April 2017
> Increasing and more effective use of technology will be crucial to achieving
government targets whilst maintaining high quality
> Using data to enhance and improve the apprenticeship journey
> Making timely interventions will enable apprentices to learn more effectively
> Embed use of technology to enhance and improve the apprenticeship journey
> Toolkit is first project output – live shortly

What is the Intelligent Campus?
What is the project?
>The primary aim of the Intelligent Campus project is to
improve the student experience by capturing and analysing
the many kinds of data that can be collected across university
and college campuses
>This research is developing alongside our effective
learning analytics project and our work to build a learning
analytics service
Using data to make smarter use of your estate
The Intelligent Campus
>At the core of the learning analytics service is the Learning
Data Hub (formerly called the Learning Records Warehouse)
where academic and engagement data is collected, stored
and processed
>We’ll extend the Learning Data Hub to enable data to be
gathered in from physical places (movement trackers, heat
and CO2 sensors, for example) and from systems that record
and monitor space and equipment usage, timetabling and
other activities
Using data to make smarter use of your estate
What are we doing?
>By analysing when and how rooms are used organisations will
be able to make smarter, more effective use of learning
spaces and other facilities across campus and to improve
curriculum design and delivery
>Making timely interventions to ensure that the best available
spaces are being used for each session will enable students to
learn more effectively and ensure that the organisation is
running efficiently – but this is only the start.

>An intelligent campus could also enable organisations to
reduce their environmental impact by monitoring and managing
energy use in real time, to streamline waste management, to
move supplies around site more efficiently…
>The list of potential benefits is only constrained by
your imagination…

  • 2. Digital strategy Digital Apprentice – The apprenticeship toolkit: Using technology to support delivery of the new apprenticeship standards 6 March 2018 | ICC, Birmingham
  • 3. > Apprenticeships are a growth area > Government target of three million starts by 2020 – a tenfold increase from the current level of 300,000 apprentices > Introduction of employer levy April 2017 > Increasing and more effective use of technology will be crucial to achieving government targets whilst maintaining high quality > Using data to enhance and improve the apprenticeship journey > Making timely interventions will enable apprentices to learn more effectively > Embed use of technology to enhance and improve the apprenticeship journey > Toolkit is first project output – live shortly One of our five co-design projects Digital Apprentice

  • 10. Feedback and assessment >Tracking and monitoring places new demands on some systems >Good practice in feedback and formative assessment is common >End Point Assessment (EPA) is new in all contexts >A degree is no longer the end point

  • 20. >The primary aim of the Intelligent Campus project is to improve the student experience by capturing and analysing the many kinds of data that can be collected across university and college campuses >This research is developing alongside our effective learning analytics project and our work to build a learning analytics service Using data to make smarter use of your estate The Intelligent Campus
  • 21. >At the core of the learning analytics service is the Learning Data Hub (formerly called the Learning Records Warehouse) where academic and engagement data is collected, stored and processed >We’ll extend the Learning Data Hub to enable data to be gathered in from physical places (movement trackers, heat and CO2 sensors, for example) and from systems that record and monitor space and equipment usage, timetabling and other activities Using data to make smarter use of your estate What are we doing?
  • 22. >By analysing when and how rooms are used organisations will be able to make smarter, more effective use of learning spaces and other facilities across campus and to improve curriculum design and delivery >Making timely interventions to ensure that the best available spaces are being used for each session will enable students to learn more effectively and ensure that the organisation is running efficiently – but this is only the start.   2. Process Each institution have some kind of process in place, knowingly or not, to support evaluations. Part of the process could also be how a focus group is defined and selected Instruments An instrument could be a survey, an email or any other entity that is used part of the evaluation process. Output This is referring to the actual results. What did the evaluation find? Assessment Assessing the evaluation is most likely not as common as the evaluations themselves. If they are present, this would be an excellent object to share. “Did we achieve our ultimate goals?”
