LIGHTING PRACTICE
Daniel Winn
SHOT 1
 In this shot the character is standing almost in the
middle of the shot, this could resemble some
importance to the character in this particular scene.
This could also be classed as an establishing shot.
 The main source of lighting in this shot is the
background (atmosphere), it gives an effect of
presenting the time of day and possibly how the
character is feeling.
SHOT 2
 In this shot there is artificial light being shone on
the face of the character from below giving a
sense that the character is confused or
mysterious.
 It gives the viewer the same effect of confusion
because they are unaware of who the character is
and why the lighting is how it is.
SHOT 3
 In this shot the camera is lowered so it feels like
the viewer is looking up at the character making
the character look more dominant and powerful
in this scene.
 There is natural light being used in this shot but
from above, this could show that the light is
shining down on him like he is the main part of
the stage.
SHOT 4
 In this shot the camera is showing the majority
of the character, it could possibly be a point of
view shot where the character is being
interrogated, giving a sense of questioning and
confusion to the viewer.
 The natural light this time is coming from the
side so only half of the face of the character is lit
up. This gives an effect of mysteriousness and
potential uncomfortable feeling from the viewer
towards the character.
SHOT 5
 In this shot the character is stood in front and
central of the background lighting so the whole
front of his body is in darkness, this could show
that the character wants to be in the dark.
 This gives a unsure feeling for the viewer
because they may have not fully decided
whether the character is a hero or a villain, may
be even a vigilante, so there is a unassertive
feeling about this shot.
