2. TYPES OF LIGHTING WE WILL BE USING
Three-point lighting Low key lighting
High and low key
lighting
combination
Backlighting to
create a mysterious
atmosphere
Background lighting Under lighting
3. THREE POINT
LIGHTING
A basic lighting set up that is
consisted of a key light, fill
light and back light. The
purpose of this is to clearly
identify what is the main
centre of attention. For
example if someone is in a
room and they are the main
point of attention. This will
be useful in our film because
it will help the audience to
understand what is the main
centre of focus.
4. LOW KEY LIGHTING
Low key lighting creates a shadowy effect. This
is great for our genre of horror because this is
one of the main themes in horror. Having a
dark atmosphere and setting will make it clear
to the audience what type of movie and film
this is.
5. HIGH AND LOW KEY
LIGHTING
COMBINATION
Having and combination of
both high and low key
lighting can make a clear
outline of a person in a
scene. This would be very
useful in our film’s opening
because it can allow us to do
this with our antagonist or
killer. This can create a sense
of horror because it will
allow the audience to see
the stature of the killer and
how menacing. Also if it is a
close up it will allow the
audience to see the killers
mask and face.
6. BACKLIGHTING
For backlighting we can
create a scene where
someone is in the dark and
the light behind them is
another persons flashlight.
This can create a feel of
horror because it will make
the audience feel like they
cant see everything in the
shot and therefore a sense
of mystery is created.
7. BACKGROUND LIGHTING
Background lighting is similar to the three
point lighting except all the light is directed to
the background of a scene. This will be useful
for us because it will allow us to create and a
scene where the killer can be seen as a
shadowy figure. This will create a sense of
horror because it will leave the audience
wondering who or what the killer is.
8. UNDERLIGHTING
Underlighting has the light
shining under the individuals
face. This will be useful to us
because it allows us to
clearly show our facial
expressions in a scene.
