Light enables us to see objects and comes from luminous sources like the sun and stars or non-luminous sources like candles when lit. Light travels in a straight line and when it hits an object, the object can be seen if the light is reflected into our eyes. Shadows are formed when light is blocked by an opaque object, and have properties like shape depending on the object and light source, and being black in color regardless of the object's color. Solar and lunar eclipses occur when the sun, moon, and earth are aligned so that one casts its shadow on another.
