Cardiff University will lead a 6-month feasibility study to develop a shared library management system for Welsh higher education institutions and partners. The study aims to provide a vision and roadmap for a future shared infrastructure to deliver world-class library services. The project involves all Welsh universities and will evaluate scenarios like maintaining the status quo, hosting a system externally or internally, and either sharing or partitioning content between institutions. Risks include not hiring a project manager in time.

OpenUP Final Conference is the final conference of the EU funded H2020 project OpenUP. In OpenUP Final Conference, key aspects and challenges of the currently transforming science landscape were showcased in different interactive sessions, including an Open Science Cafe and Marketplace for new and innovative tools, methods and ideas. Different Motivate and Meet sessions fostered interaction and exchange in the context of Open Science.
It brought together different stakeholders who have a "stake" in the researcher lifecycle and helped them to learn about innovative methods for peer review, dissemination of research results and impact measurement, and get involved in shaping open science policies meeting their needs.

Collaborating to ready evergreen for massachusetts libraries
The Massachusetts Library Network Consortium (MassLNC) has been collaborating for the past two years to implement the open source integrated library system Evergreen for its member libraries. Three library networks - CW MARS, MVLC, and NOBLE - received grant funding to investigate and select a single ILS and develop it to better meet local needs. MVLC transitioned to Evergreen in 2011, and CW MARS and NOBLE were set to go live in May 2012. Through shared decision making and a mutual support structure, the networks have undertaken development projects like cataloging enhancements and have benefited from involvement in the broader Evergreen community. While the transition presented challenges like a changing public catalog, the switch to open source offers libraries more

Clinical Trials Networks supported by Tools and Services from Infrastructure Projects.
International clinical trials are a challenge to management. Though, the number of clinical trials worldwide is increasing by around 10% per year, approvals for new molecule entities and biomedical licenses show little long-term increase. Main challenges are the need to recruit and retain sufficient numbers of patients and the successful implementing e-Clinical Trials technologies, especially for trials incorporating ePRO (patient reported outcome) and eRecruitment services. We suggest that clinical trials networks should cooperate with infrastructure projects to enable the implementation of eTrials and patient-centric trials.
Clinical trials systems can be optimised by coordination through information sharing and collaboration and by building networks. Here infrastructures can function as enablers by the provision of
software tools, especially patient centric trials, ePRO (Patient Reported Outcome) and data collection and recruitment using EHRs (Electronic Health Records) and the implementation of nessessary data protection, privacy protection and identity management. As example for a clinical trials network ECRIN is addressed. ECRIN is a public, non-profit organisation that links scientific partners and networks across Europe to facilitate multinational clinical research. We suggest the integration of clinical research at ECRIN with several infrastructure services developed by BBMRI, EATRIS, EUDAT, TransForm, p-medicine, BioMedBridges, etc., resulting in an increase in interoperability of clinical data management, biobanking, genetic databases, Electronic Health Records (EHR), query systems, data warehouses, data repositories and imaging data.

Governments and industries all over the world are tackling the challenges and opportunities of ‘Big Data’. In view of these challenges, the key drivers of change in this area are the behaviour of researchers, the introduction of incentives or rewards and funding for data sharing infrastructure. Governments and taxpayers also expect a return on investment from the money spent on publically funded research. Building on and learning from the successes (and failures) of others need to be part of the research vernacular. Issues such as open access, data curation, handling of data, and sharing of that data are all matters on which the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has an interest in. NHMRC works with the sector to develop best practise policies on such matters.

Governments and industries all over the world are tackling the challenges and opportunities of ‘Big Data’. In view of these challenges, the key drivers of change in this area are the behaviour of researchers, the introduction of incentives or rewards and funding for data sharing infrastructure. Governments and taxpayers also expect a return on investment from the money spent on publically funded research. Building on and learning from the successes (and failures) of others need to be part of the research vernacular. Issues such as open access, data curation, handling of data, and sharing of that data are all matters on which the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has an interest in. NHMRC works with the sector to develop best practise policies on such matters.

Library Analytics and Metrics Project
This was a presentation delivered at the 10th Northumbria Conference in York during July 2013. It provides a background, and introduction and overview to the Library Analytics and Metrics Project (LAMP) work that Jisc, Mimas (University of Manchester) and University of Huddersfield are collaborating on.
The project will develop a prototype shared library analytics service for UK universities and colleges.
HIKE project presentation
The HIKE project aimed to evaluate integrating data between the KB+ knowledge base and local systems, and evaluating Intota as a potential replacement for the traditional library management system. It mapped existing electronic resources workflows and found inefficiencies in dealing with different formats. It tested KB+ and compared it to 360 Resource Manager, finding KB+ better for managing deals. The project recommended next steps including adopting Summon, embedding KB+ and 360 in workflows, and forming an Intota working group.

Library shared service feasibility study (whelf)
- 1. Lead Institution: Cardiff University
- 2. To undertake a short study (6 months) to develop a feasibility study for a shared Library Management System across Welsh Higher Education Institutions and partners.
- 3. The project will provide a practical vision and road-map for a future shared library systems infrastructure which will support Welsh HE institutions in delivering world-class library systems and services to meet the needs and expectations of their users. It is recognised and accepted that an acceptable outcome is not to recommend shared services as an option.
- 4. This project includes all Welsh Higher Education Institutions and has been mandated by the Welsh Higher Education Libraries Forum (WHELF) . Cardiff University is the lead institution .
- 5. We've identified a number of possible scenarios for a shared system: • no change • Externally hosted system (either with content shared or partitioned) • Institutionally hosted system (either with content shared or partitoned)
- 6. • Work-package 1: Project management/communication • Work-package 2: Survey of existing practice and governance models • Work-package 3: Engagement with Synthesis and Scoping Project and wider project landscape • Work-package 4: Options appraisal and risk analyses • Work-package 5: Integration use cases • Work-package 6: Business case • Work-package 7: Evaluation and dissemination
- 7. • There is a risk that we will be unable to recruit the project manager within an acceptable time period to deliver within the project time scale.
