Libraries now require a broader range of skills including design, data literacy, and web development rather than specialization, as library systems move to the web; this challenges libraries to attract and manage staff with these new skills, such as through employing students.

A much broader range of skills both across the library, and the individual: No more specialists? Skills not usually associated with the library training: design, user experience/usability, data literacy, statistical numeracy etc. Library specific systems disappear (no more catalogue!): more web developers? Students as staff?
How do libraries attract these skills? How do libraries manage this talent?

Digital Library user experience: sconul conference

  • 1. A much broader range of skills both across the library, and the individual: No more specialists? Skills not usually associated with the library training: design, user experience/usability, data literacy, statistical numeracy etc. Library specific systems disappear (no more catalogue!): more web developers? Students as staff?
