This document discusses library consortia and the e-ShodhSindhu consortium in India. It defines a consortium as a cooperative arrangement between groups to share resources for common goals and users. Library consortia allow libraries to share resources like collections, catalogs, and services. The e-ShodhSindhu consortium merged previous initiatives to provide universities and colleges access to over 15,000 journals and databases. Its goal is to support students, faculty and research with quality electronic resources for free.

5. Consortia?
 Consortium is cooperative arrangement of
groups with a policy of sharing resources among
members. It is a strategic alliance of institutions
having common interest.
 ‘Consortia’ means a “cooperation of a number of
powers, companies, etc., for a common purpose.
 It is an association of similar types of
organizations/ institutions who are engaged for
producing and servicing common things for
providing services for a specific purpose of its
users” - Oxford English Dictionary

Education Electronic Resources provides
access to e-resources to Universities,
Colleges and Centrally Funded Technical
Institutions in INDIA.

12. e-ShodhSindhu Consortia ?
 The MHRD has formed e-ShodhSindhu merging three
consortia initiatives, namely UGC-INFONET Digital Library
Consortium, NLIST and INDEST-AICTE Consortium.
 The e-ShodhSindhu will continue to provide current as well
as archival access to more than 15,000 core and peer-
reviewed journals and a number of bibliographic, citation
and factual databases in different disciplines from a large
number of publishers and aggregators to its member
institutions including centrally-funded technical
institutions, universities and colleges that are covered under
12(B) and 2(f) Sections of the UGC Act
 The main objective of the e-ShodhSindu: Consortia for
Higher Education E-Resources is to provide access to
qualitative electronic resources including full-text,
bibliographic and factual databases to academic institutions
