4. Language explained• Masthead- this Identifies that this is a NME magazine. The
logo is cleverly placed in the top left hand corner as the
human eye flow reads from left to right therefore this will be
what they first see when looking at the magazine.
• Cover lines-Summaries of ALT-J and PALMA VIOLETS and
explains very briefly what the articles are about.
• Headline-Much larger font than all the other headings. The
only heading other than the masthead with a red font.
• House style-All punctuation is italic. All writing is in capitals.
• Splash -This is clearly the main story as mike skinner is the
largest image on the front cover.
• Strapline -Smaller font than the masthead over the main
headline.
• Banner -The front page headline that goes across the whole
page.
• Kicker-This story stands out from the rest as it has two
pictures whereas the other cover lines haven't got pictures to
accompany them.
• Left third-The main feature article the magazine has a large
section about mike skinner.
• Lure-A small quotation of what has been said inside during
an interview as a tease to lure you in.
• Exclusive-Exclusive interview, you will only find this
interview in this NME magazine.
