6 Levels of Motivation
• 1. I get to do something.
• -motivation rises when we enable learners to get up and do something
• 2. I get to do something interesting to me
• -learners engage more deeply when their “doing” intersect with an area
of curiosity
• 3. I get to do something interesting, using my gifts
• - empower learners to utilize their specific strengths.
• 4. I get to do something interesting using my gifts
with the people I enjoy
• - we learn best when we’re with friends.
5. I get to do something interesting , using my gifts
with people I enjoy, that solves a problem
- Problem solving further engage and motivates students.
6. I get to do something interesting, using my gift with
people I enjoy that solves a problem regarding something
that matters.
- the ultimate engagement surfaces when the problem is important.
5 Strategies for Motivation
• 1. Promote growth mindset over fixed mindset.
• we must stop praising ability
• 2. Develop meaningful and respectful relationships
with your students.
• know each of them on a personal level
3. Grow a community of learners in your classroom.
- the students and teacher must work together towards common collective goals.
4. Establish high expectations and establish clear
goals.
-When expectations are transparent, students know where their learning is headed
5. Be inspirational.
- Most adults can recall a specific teacher from their childhood who had a lasting
impact.
