Leukotrienes are inflammatory mediators produced from the oxidation of arachidonic acid by leukocytes, mast cells, and macrophages. They are produced in response to immunological and non-immunological stimuli. There are two main types of leukotrienes - leukotriene B4, which is a chemoattractant for neutrophils, and cysteinyl leukotrienes (LTC4, LTD4, LTE4), which are produced by mast cells and eosinophils and cause bronchoconstriction.
