A. Preparation
a. Classroom Management
Good morning class.
How are you?
That’s good to hear. Before we proceed to or
activities this morning, everybody stand up for
or prayer.
Before you take your seat, arrange the chairs
properly and occupy the vacant seats here in
front.
So, is everybody ready to listen to or discussion
this morning?
I’m glad to hear that!
b. Drill
So, before we start our new lesson, let’s do an
energizer for everybody to be active and alert.
Who knows the action song “My toes, my
knees?”
Okay. Everybody knows the song so let’s do it all
together.
“MY TOES, MY KNEES”
c. Motivation
Let’s play a game first class before we proceed
to our main topic this morning. I’ll divide you
Good morning ma’am.
We’re good ma’am.
(students do as told)
(students do as told)
Yes ma’am!
(student raises their hands)
(students perform the action song)
into 2 groups. This side here (right) is G1 and this
side here (left) is the G2. I have here some
puzzles. All you need to do is to find the words
written in the box. You need to find it in the
puzzle. The one who finished the task first is our
winner.
Is everything clear?
B. Presentation
a. Statement of the Aim
Give everybody a round of applause for a job well
done. You found all the words in the puzzle.
(Let the students read the words)
Do you know class that these words you have
found a while ago are part of our discussion this
morning?
Well, set back and relax for this morning, our
discussion is on,
PASSIVE AND ACTIVE VOICE
Listen carefully for at the end of the lesson, you
are expected to do the following tasks.
Everybody read the objectives.
b. Introduction
To start our discussion class, let me give you this
trivia:
Class, our topic this morning, the Passive and the
Active voice are called 2 special forms for verb.
The active voice class is what we call the “normal”
voice. The passive voice is less usual.
Yes ma’am.
No ma’am.
a. differentiate active and passive
voice;
b. identify the voice of the verb in
each sentence;
c. share to the classthe
importance of having a correct
foundation in terms of
sentence construction.
Yes ma’am.
Doer voice verb
Receiver object subject
So, let’s start or discussion. Are you ready?
Voice is the quality of a verb that shows whether
the subjects is the doer or receiver of the action.
Everybody read the definition of Active Voice
The Active Voice
Active voice is used to indicate that the subject of
the sentence is the doer of the action.
Everybody read the definition of Passive Voice.
The Passive Voice
Passive Voice is used to indicate that that the
subject is the receiver instead of being the doer of
the action.
c. Interaction
This time class, I want everybody’s participation
for our discussion to be effective.
Let’s start with the Active Voice. I have here
examples. I want any volunteers from the class to
encircle the subject, underline the verb twice and
the object once.
Active voice:
1) The boy kicked the ball.
2) A studentwrote the winning essay.
3) Alexander GrahamBell invented the
telephone.
4) The chef prepareda delicious meal.
What are the subjects in the sentences?
Correct. Remember class that they are the doers
of the action because they are the subjects.
What are the verbs used?
Very good! Those verbs are transitive verb with
directs objects, thus when the subject of the
sentence does the action and the verb has a direct
object, we say that the verb is in the active voice.
(students do what is told)
(students do what is told)
(students do what is told)
1) The boy kicked the ball.
2) A student wrote the winning
essay.
3) Alexander GrahamBell
invented the telephone.
4) The chef prepareda delicious
meal.
Student, Alexander Graham Bell, Chef
Wrote, invented, prepared
Yes ma’am.
Do you get it class?
Let’s proceed to the Passive Voice. I have here
examples.
1) The ball was kicked by the boy.
2) The winning essay was written by a students
3) The telephonewas inventedby Alexander
Graham bell.
4) A delicious meal was preparedby the chef.
In each sentence above, observe that the subjects
are the receiver instead of being the doer of the
action. Note that the form of the verb when the
subjects are the receiver, not the doer of the
action is made up of was+ past participle of the
verb. Thus if the subjects is acted upon, the verb is
in the passive voice.
Changing the voice from active to passive.
Let’s study the changes in the following
sentences:
Active Voice
 The mother carried the baby.
 Father repaired the old chair.
 Sam explored the famous underground
river.
Passive Voice
 The baby was carried by the mother.
 An old chair was repaired by father.
 The famous underground river was
explored by Sam.
(Further Explanation)
d. Values Integration
Okay now class, who among you here can share to
the class why is it that we need to have a correct
foundation in terms of sentence construction?
So, is the discussion clear class?
e. Integration/ Activity
To measure your mastery about the topic
discussed a while ago, let’s have a quiz.
(students answer)

Everybody read the objectives. b. Introduction To start our discussion class, let me give you this trivia: Class, our topic this morning, the Passive and the Active voice are called 2 special forms for verb. No ma’am. a. differentiate active and passive voice; b. identify the voice of the verb in each sentence; c. share to the classthe importance of having a correct foundation in terms of sentence construction. Yes ma’am. Doer voice verb Receiver object subject
  • 3. So, let’s start or discussion. Are you ready? Voice is the quality of a verb that shows whether the subjects is the doer or receiver of the action. Everybody read the definition of Active Voice The Active Voice Active voice is used to indicate that the subject of the sentence is the doer of the action. Everybody read the definition of Passive Voice. The Passive Voice Passive Voice is used to indicate that that the subject is the receiver instead of being the doer of the action. c. Interaction This time class, I want everybody’s participation for our discussion to be effective. Let’s start with the Active Voice. I have here examples. I want any volunteers from the class to encircle the subject, underline the verb twice and the object once. Active voice: 1) The boy kicked the ball. 2) A studentwrote the winning essay. 3) Alexander GrahamBell invented the telephone. 4) The chef prepareda delicious meal. What are the subjects in the sentences? Correct. Remember class that they are the doers of the action because they are the subjects. What are the verbs used? Very good! Those verbs are transitive verb with directs objects, thus when the subject of the sentence does the action and the verb has a direct object, we say that the verb is in the active voice. (students do what is told) (students do what is told) (students do what is told) 1) The boy kicked the ball. 2) A student wrote the winning essay. 3) Alexander GrahamBell invented the telephone. 4) The chef prepareda delicious meal. Student, Alexander Graham Bell, Chef Wrote, invented, prepared Yes ma’am.
  • 4. Do you get it class? Let’s proceed to the Passive Voice. I have here examples. 1) The ball was kicked by the boy. 2) The winning essay was written by a students 3) The telephonewas inventedby Alexander Graham bell. 4) A delicious meal was preparedby the chef. In each sentence above, observe that the subjects are the receiver instead of being the doer of the action. Note that the form of the verb when the subjects are the receiver, not the doer of the action is made up of was+ past participle of the verb. Thus if the subjects is acted upon, the verb is in the passive voice. Changing the voice from active to passive. Let’s study the changes in the following sentences: Active Voice  The mother carried the baby.  Father repaired the old chair.  Sam explored the famous underground river. Passive Voice  The baby was carried by the mother.  An old chair was repaired by father.  The famous underground river was explored by Sam. (Further Explanation) d. Values Integration Okay now class, who among you here can share to the class why is it that we need to have a correct foundation in terms of sentence construction? So, is the discussion clear class? e. Integration/ Activity To measure your mastery about the topic discussed a while ago, let’s have a quiz. (students answer) Yes ma’am.
