This document discusses Musikong Bumbong, an instrumental music genre from the lowlands of Luzon, Philippines. Musikong Bumbong uses bamboo woodwind instruments similar in shape to brass instruments but with distinct sounds. When played together, the bamboo instruments produce good harmony. The document provides background on the D' Original Malabon Musikong Bumbong band, the first and oldest known Musikong Bumbong band, started in 1896 by founder and inventor Felix Ramos using locally made bamboo instruments.

The shape and the sizes are similar to brass
band instruments but have different sounds.
The MUSIKONG BUMBONG playing together
produces good harmony.
The D’ Original Malabon Musikong Bumbong
started as a plain Banda de Boca (meaning
“bibig” or mouth) in Barrio Tonsuya, Malabon in
1896.

9.  Felix Ramos was both the founder and
inventor of the bamboo instruments.
The first members of the band were all
Katipuneros.
The band was renamed several times but
it is currently known as Musikawayan
under the leadership of P/Lt. Col. Gilbert
M. Ramos, a fourth generation
descendant of the band’s founder.
