- Globalization on the other hand, is the process by which people and goods move easily across borders.
- In 1983, Howard Schultz, an employee of the Starbucks shop, discovered the espresso coffeeย while on a trip to Milan; this moment would revolutionize coffee in the United States. When he returned to Seattle, heย envisioned revolutionizing the American coffee industryย by introducing espresso on Starbucksโ menu. He wanted to differentiate Starbucksโ coffee from the regular โcup of coffeeโ everyone asked for elsewhere. Schultz also wanted toย create a โthird spaceโ in peoplesโ lives, somewhere aside from their homes and workplace to gather and frequent where they will form connections. He wanted Starbucks to be more than just a cafeteria; he wanted the chain to be part of peopleโs every day. The 1990s were Starbucksโ era of expansion. Throughout the decade, the company went public. It opened its first stores in Japan, Europe, and China, which could only foreshadow the importance that Starbucks would achieve in the following ten years. Today, the company is present worldwide,ย dominating the takeaway coffee industryย and even generating its own jargon for products. For example, naming their products โFrappuccinoโ or โCloud Macchiatoโ and sizes like โVentiโ or โGrandeโ.ย
- In 1971, Terry Heckler, a graphic designer hired by the founders, designed the companyโs first logo. Heckler gotย inspired by a 16th-century Norse woodcut of a mythical sea creature โ a siren. The drawing represented a topless siren holding two tails in her hands.
