This document discusses globalization and its impact on journalism. It provides several definitions of globalization that emphasize how it compresses time and space and increases interconnectedness between different parts of the world. Some positives of globalization are that it allows people to learn about international issues and experience other cultures. However, it can also lead to a loss of local cultures as everything starts to blend together. Additionally, while many benefit from globalization, not everyone does, and the spread of information, like terrorist videos, can increase conflict between groups. In conclusion, globalization has both benefits and drawbacks for journalism, increasing access to information but also potential for offensive information to spread and be misinterpreted.

3. WHAT IS GLOBALISATION?
There are many different definitions of the term globalisation. many
of these definitions are similar. Here are how some define
globalisation:
• "Globalisation compresses the time and space aspects of social
relations."
- Mittelman
• "Globalisation... refers to the growing interconnectedness of
different parts of the world, a process which gives rise to complex
forms of interaction and interdependency." – Thompson
• “The intensification of world-wide social relations, which link
distant localities in such a way that local happenings are shaped by
events occurring many miles away, and vice-versa.” - Giddens

4. POSITIVES OF GLOBALISATION
Globalisation has allowed people to know about
issues which are happening internationally.
Without globalisation, journalists would not be
able to tell people of small communities of the
issues that are going on around the world.
Another positive is that people can experience
different cultures, lifestyles, products and foods
with globalisation.

5. NEGATIVES OF GLOBALISATION
Globalisation also has many negatives. Whilst many people
experience the benefits of globalisation, not everyone
experiences these benefits. Also, with so much
interconnectedness, there is becoming a loss of cultures
and traditions since everything is starting to meld. This
can be illustrated when Osama Bin Laden filmed himself
for taking the blame for his actions, he was wearing many
western items, a microphone and traditional headgear, this
shows a culture clash, but also shows the negative side of
globalisation since videos of terrorists can reach the
masses easily lead to conflict between different types of
people and nations.

6. FINAL THOUGHTS
Globalisation has had many positive as well as
many negative impacts, especially in regards to
journalism. Nowadays, people have access to online
journalism across the world. They can access this
information easily, and whilst that is a good thing in
regards to how quick it is to get hold of
information, if a person gets hold of information
they find offensive, they could end up slandering
the journalist who wrote the story.
