What examples of inequality between between white
Australians and indigenous Australians were evident on
Australia day, 1938?
Examples of inequality included: Indigenous activists and community
members were denied access to Sydney Town Hall where European
Australians were gathering; Australian law forbade Indigenous people
gathering to protest; the lack of full citizenship and equality; poor
education and health services; unequal pay and employment
conditions; Indigenous people could not own property, receive a
pension or open a bank account

•Using the stolen generation as an example explain the struggle of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for rights and
freedoms
•Who were the Stolen Generations?
•Explain why is was difficult for indigenous parents to contest the
removal of their children
•Explain the concept of assimilation
•Empathise with the stolen generation
  
The Stolen Generations were the children of Australian Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander descent who were removed from their families by
government agencies and church missions, under acts of their respective
parliaments. The removals occurred in the period between approximately
1909 and 1969, although in some places children were still being taken
until the 1970s
Who are the Stolen Generations
Why were the children removed?
They felt that children were not being properly cared for and
needed to learn job skills for a better future.
Colonial authorities believed that this was the best way to look
after Indigenous Australian children.
They thought that assimilation into European society was in
their best interests.
