Understanding the differences
between pages and posts
Before start working on your site, it is important to have a
clear understanding of the difference between pages and
posts:
Pages are usually those which
have a static purpose in life.
- For example: About page,
Résumé page or Contact forms.
- Some people build entire sites
with just Pages – this is
especially the case for sites with
little need for dynamic content
and is very popular with small
businesses who simply want an
online brochure.
Posts usually contain semantically and
chronographically arranged information
- for example: news reports, event
results, and of course blog entries!
- The semantic structure is defined by
categories and tags, and whilst making
it easy for people to navigate your site
will also help search engines to
understand the content of your site and
so improve the relevance of search
results.

How to create categories?
Categories are a very convenient way to organize your posts.
– You can have parent and child categories making hierarchical arrangement of
your posts possible.
– One post can be into more than one category.
To create new categories, you need to access the Posts -> Catgories
5. AUSTRIAN SERBIAN TOURISM PROGRAMMES
Example of categories
• Categories provide a helpful way
to group related posts together,
and to quickly tell readers what a
post is about.
• Categories also make it easier for
people to find your content.

Creating and managing your categories
Organizing categories can be one of the greatest influences in how easy it
is to navigate your site.
On the left side of the page you
will see a tab that allows you to
create categories.
Fill in the category name, its slug
(will be used in the category
URLs) and the Add New
Category button.
Create category Events, and sub-
categories Courses and
Conferences
7. AUSTRIAN SERBIAN TOURISM PROGRAMMES
To begin go to Posts -> Add New.
On this page you will see the posts editor. The most important parts of this page
are:
– Post Title - enter the title of your post in this field. On your theme it will be shown above
your content.
– Post Content - you can use the WYSIWYG editor to add the actual content of your post.
Note that it has two tabs - Visual (use the editor to format your text) and Text (add your
HTML code directly).

Adding the Content
Let’s make this a short article about launching the website.
Place the text below into it the text box, with the title Our
First Event:
We are excited to announce the launching of our new website
developed in WordPress. We will be producing news and articles about
e-tourism, and destination management systems. Our goal is to create
the community of experts and practitioners in these fields.
We would like to invite you to take a look!
We also ask that you share this with your friends, and your feedback
is appreciated.

Adding links to your posts
• To create a link in text,
highlight the text you wish to
link, and then click on the link
icon in the editor
• Title gives meaning to the link
and will show on hovering over
the link
• Choose whether or not to
open the link in a new
window/tab or stay in the
current window/tab.
11. AUSTRIAN SERBIAN TOURISM PROGRAMMES
Adding images to your posts
Note:
On most servers you will be limited to images of between 2MB and 8MB in size, so if you have a very
high resolution digital camera you might need to resize the images before uploading them.

Image options
When you select an image, the details for it are shown in the
right column, such as:
– Title – this is the title of the image.
– Caption – the caption text for the image. This text appears under the
image when it is posted on the website.
– Alternative Text – a brief description of the image. The alt text is much
more important to blind users than the title. Do make sure it is not a
repeat of the title.

Take advantage of Tags
• Tags group related posts together on your
site
• Assigning tags to your posts increases the
chance that others will see them on
the topic pages in the Reader.
• For starters, you can enable a Tag Cloud
Widget in your sidebar or footer so your
readers can quickly find your content based
on your most popular tags.
The bigger the word, the more posts you
have published about it

– A responsive version of your theme -
A responsive theme is one that
automatically adjusts to the size of
the screen, shaping itself so your
blog still looks like your blog but is
fast and mobile-friendly.
