Inequality In Education
Inequality Among Latinos in Academic Achievement in Higher Education
The Latino community has made strides forward when it comes to education. Adriana Kohler and
Melissa Lazarin, analysists for education reform for the National Council of La Raza, reports that
The growth of the Latino student population has significantly surpassed that of other ethnic/racial
groups (2). Even with these strides, the Latino community still faces obstacles in higher education.
Kohler and Lazarin further report that although Latino enrollment in institutions of higher
education has increased, Latinos are still less likely than non Latinos to be enrolled in or graduate
from college (10). It is important in understanding the obstacles that the Latino community face in
accessing higher education and through advocacy and legislation, help to support educational
achievement and resources to that effect.
These efforts have had a proven positive effect as to slowly changing the gender role orientations
favoring Latina women becoming more independent. It has created a shift from a traditional
housewife role to a more professional role and egalitarian view over the past few decades. This
shift has also created an issue that is underreported. Claudia Buchman from the Sociology
Department at Ohio State University and Thomas Diprete from the Sociology Department of
Columbia University emphasizes that the United States Department of Education predicts that the

The Secret Behind Food That People Eat
The number of consumers has now risen to 200, 000, 000, subjected everyday to a bombardment of
poisons in their food and drugs while lying at the mercy of respectable corporations (Fuller). While
the chefs and sou chefs cooked their customers orders, they thought nothing of it. They served it to
their customer and while that customer ate, one had an allergic reaction. The customer whose name
was Jorma Takala suffers from hyperactivity. Therefore, additives can be dangerous and companies
using them should do extreme testing before exposing it to the human population.
What are additives exactly? Well, they are substances that have no proven track... Show more

Even though the earth holds millions of people on it, this is a large number of catastrophes. People
should not have to die because of something like this. This number is increasing every year and
scientists and the FDA should do something about it. If not, the numbers of consumers will also
rise. The number of consumers annually differs from those being diagnosed with allergic reactions.
As they continue to rise, the numbers of people admitted to the emergency rooms are also
increasing. The FDA s attitude seems to be: Let consumers figure out for themselves how much of
which ingredients can make them sick. It s bad enough that people have to worry about allergic
reactions to peanuts, milk, and other conventional foods. In fact, it makes no sense for health
authorities to purposefully allow new unsafe ingredients into the food supply.
Types of safe food additives that have been used and known to not cause any health problems are
artificial sweeteners. These sweeteners are put in place of real sugar that can cause cavities. With
this in mind, the manufacturers using this just think that they could put these in their gums and
sugar free and no complaints will surface from anyone. This can be true to some people because
this is a safe additive, but don t think that because it doesn t cause many allergic reactions it is
totally safe. In fact, these are some food additives that manufacturers use in their foods when
preparing food to be

Charge Card Advantages And Disadvantages
The liberalization of the money related divisions in Asia has brought about the fast spread of
charge card organizations and monetary organizations giving different sorts of purchaser credit.
The charge card market in general world has extended radically that the guarantors of outside
nations has presented cellular telephone Visas for the comfort of their customers.(Amin, 2008)
This, combined with the passage of remote banks, has enormously expanded the quantity of
credit cards accessible, and consequently such spending in Pakistan. Despite the fact that charge
card was presented in Pakistan decades prior when Habib Bank, the biggest bank in Pakistan,
dispatched its gold card, however individuals had scarcely think about this card in view of its
extremely restricted issuance. Several years back, Master card was introduced by ABL (Allied
Bank of Pakistan), but that also was not get good attention. In year 1994, VISA Card is introduced

Male Dominance Behavior
Dominance behavior has been displayed among a variety of species. In horses, there are several
factors that play key roles when it comes to determining level of dominance such as social
interaction between horses, aggressive behaviors and hierarchy. Horses have become to be known
as very sociable animals. They are used for many human purposes such as entertainment, therapy,
law enforcement purposes, search and rescue purposes...etc. Horses are animals that have to be
trained to adapt to living with humans. If not trained properly, they can be highly aggressive
animals that can injure humans without warning. It is important to understand the behaviorof horses
in order to facilitate the appropriate living situation and training necessary. Male horses will be
more likely to display more aggressive behaviors than female horses by observing them in... Show

The way they interact with each other is a determinant of what kind of behavioral characteristic
each horse possess. For example, there are certain behaviors that can determine if a horse is
dominant versus submissive or whether a horse is aggressive versus peaceful. Curry et al. (2007)
believed that the behavior of horses is influenced by their living conditions, specifically in stables.
Horses are on a schedule with limited time spent in the stables and time spent roaming the fields.
Observing what they do with that time can be excellent predictors of behavior. Depriving horses
of company can also reduce the amount of aggressive encounters and negative behaviors. Single
stabled living arrangements have been beneficial in cases of horses that display high levels of
aggression. One argument that Fureix et al. (2012) made was that social confinement and depriving
interactions with other horses could lead to aggressive acts when confronted again. Confinement
can increase aggression levels and led to injuries between groups of

Star Fox Persuasive Speech
First off, I d like to thank Jim Sterling, a renowned game journalist for bringing this issue to my
attention.
So, Nintendo. We all love Nintendo. Most of us, I assume. For those of you who are unaware of
what Nintendo is, it is the beloved video game developer and publisher of such classics such as the
countless number of games in the Mario series, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, and of course,
Star Fox. Which is what we ll be discussing today. Star Fox Zero has recently been released,
coming home to reviews of about 7/10 across the board. Which is good. Not the best. Some would
like to argue a 7/10 is mediocre or average but I don t believe that. I think a 7/10 is a good solid,
fun to play game.
But that s the problem.
It s not that fun to play.
You see, Nintendo likes to be innovative for the sake of innovation. And that s why we haven t
seen a Star Fox title for a good while now. According to Shigeru Miyamoto, that s why a Star Fox
title never came out for the Wii. They couldn t be innovative. Now, I m all for innovation where it
s due. But this is not the way to go about it. And I m sure I can hear you know, What s so bad,
exactly? Well I ll tell you. Actually, let me ask you something. Hypothetically, if you had a Wii U,

What Is Majority Government
There is 308 seats in the house of commons so each party wants at least 155 candidates or more.
They want this many seats since all the laws that are made by the Parliament have to then be
passed through the Majority. The Majority government is the party that tends to win the most
seats, usually more then half of the seats in the house of commons. It is much easier for the
Majority to stay in power then the Minority which means they are strong and stable. Majority will
have the power to make decisions and never have to worry about being defeated in Parliament. Well
the Minority does have to worry. The Minority governmentmeans that the government doesn t hold
as many seats as the Majority government in the House of commons. Because of this,

The Cost Of Employees For Teleworking
Majority of employees decide for teleworking mainly because of several benefits teleworking is
offering. The first advantage is harmony of work and personal life. Employees have more free time
they can spend with their children and family. Next advantage means higher flexibility as
teleworkers may often chose the working hours and take the advantage for themselves. This allows
them to choose the hours during which they are the most productive. Furthermore, teleworkers
decreased everyday commutingto work saving their time, additional costs for travelling as well as
stress (Mann and Holdsworth, 2003). In addition, not only employees benefit from teleworking.
Company profits from teleworkers as well. Late research of the British Broadcasting Corporation
showed savings of approximately 25 per cent. These savings are the results of decrease of bills in
office space including heating, electricity (Loughran, 1998 as quoted in Mann and Holdsworth,
2003). Implications for increased productivity, loyalty and overall quality of work have been found
among teleworkers (Baruch, 2000).
However, teleworking is accompanied by a range of negatives too. The most common of them is
social segregation. An analysis from 1983 showed that 60 per cent of teleworkers in Great Britain
considered social segregation to be the greatest drawback of teleworking (Huws, 1984 as quoted in
Mann and Holdsworth, 2003). Presenteeism is regarded as another disadvantage of teleworking.
Teleworkers are hardly

Fool In To Build A Fire
In the story To Build a Fire the protagonist proves to be a fool because he only brings one
sandwich, he does not listen to the old man from Sulphur Creek, and he is also unmindful. The
man from To Build a Fire made a foolish mistake of bringing a little bit of food for his journey.
He decided to go on a journey in a new and very cold area and brought only one sandwich for him
to eat. He has to keep the sandwich wrapped in a handkerchief and right against his body so it
does not freeze. As he thought of lunch, he pressed his hand against the package under his
jacket. It was also under his shirt, wrapped in a handkerchief, and lying for warmth against the
naked skin. Otherwise, the bread would freeze. He smiled contentedly to himself as he thought of
those pieces of bread, each of which enclosed a generous portion of cooked meat (London 66).
This shows how he is not prepared for what may happen and that he only brought one sandwich
that could freeze unless it is against his body. Bringing one sandwich is not the man s only mistake
for his journey.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

story. The old man on Sulphur Creek was right, he thought in the moment of controlled despair that

The ways in which truths are presented to external audiences concerning outside characters display
not only a good judgment of character on the presenter, but furthermore, the often insignificant
nature of whom the presenter is talking about, even if the insignificance presented is accidental.
Both Peter Shaffers Equusand Albert CamusThe Stranger approach different ways in presenting the
truths of Alan Strang and Meursault to the audience/jury, but one thing remains clear; intentional or
unintentional manipulation of these characters leads to the eternal distrust of the reliability of their
presenters, Martin Dysart and the members of the law.
Through Dysart s self diagnosis given throughout Equus, Shaffer directly conflicts with ... Show

Though fascinated with Alan, as the book progresses, it strays from focus on Alan to Dysart, and
more light is shone on Dysart s own problems. Shaffer gives Dysart numerous monologues, not
concerning Alan, but rather, problems and events he has experienced in his own life, though Alan
has influenced these events. In his opening monologue, Dysart keep[s] thinking about the horse!
Not the boy: the horse (Shaffer 9). Shaffer immediately confronts with Dysart s self centered nature,
for from the beginning, Dysart s mind would rather think about an animal. Nevertheless, the
manipulation of Alan is unintentional, for Dysart does not identify with Alan in order to better
himself, but rather to bring to light problems within himself, displaying further his own selfish
nature. In contrast with The Stranger, the truth is brought out and presented to its entirety to the
audience, but Alan never receives a true diagnosis. It remains up to the reader to decide what went
wrong with Alan, and what caused him to stake out the eyes of the horses. On the other hand, all
kinds of faults are presented within Dysart, like his impotence, or his inability to find something to
become passionate about. Dysart begins to cross the line when asking Alan questions concerning
the events leading up to the staking of the horses eyes, to the point of identification with Alan, and
eventually, his own demise. His prying continues until he finds himself

Blockade Of Virginia Essay
On the morning of march 8 1862 the confederate ironclad CSS. Virginia steamed out of its port at
Norfolk Virginia and towards the union blockade. The goal of the Virginia s commander
Franklin Buchanan was to break the blockade of Norfolk Harbor which held one of the largest
naval bases in the Americas. At about 2 pm she spotted the USS Cumberland. Buchanan ordered
the ship to ram the Cumberland with its 1500 pound ram which lodged itself in the cumberlands
bow completely shredding it s hull. The cumberland began to sink rapidly with the virginia still
logged in its bow. The Virginia managed to pull herself free but in the process the iron ram
broke off and sank. Not knowing this the nearby USS congress a nearby frigate attempted to take
the fight to shallow water but in the process ran herself aground. The now helpless congress came
under fire from the virginia s 9 inch guns which ripped the frigate apart. The congress then raised
a white flag and the Virginias captain came above deck to accept but a musket ball from shore hit
him in the arm. The now angry Captain Buchanan ordered the Virginia to fire anti crew shots at the
now barely afloat Congress. At around 4pm on march 8 the Virginia which was low on ammunition.

Consistency refers to the means by which the attendance policy is put into practice by everyone
involved with the school. The school policy document needs to be owned by all staff. The
objective of the school policy document is to promote good attendance and to implement a sound
system for monitoring student behavior and progress. Schools who keep accurate attendance
records are better able to identify truancy problems early. This includes noting tardiness, patterns
of tardiness and/or absences or absences around particular days (such as holidays) as these may be
red flags that there is a problem. In order for the policy to be effective, students must be made
aware of the policy, held accountable for their actions, and the policy must be followed consistently.
(Meaning the consequences for truancy, such as detention, in school suspension, counseling, etc.
are enforced each and every time a child is truant). When a student is absent, make every effort to
contact the parent and try to figure out what might be going on. If time allows, call the parent
during the day instead of calling in the evening. The teachers should talk to the student about why
he/she was absent. Make sure that the student realizes that the teachers are aware of the absences
and care about him/her being in school. Parents play the fundamental role in the education of their
children. This applies to every family regardless of the parents station in

The Disrespects Of Standing Up For Hawaiian Culture
We wouldnК»t disrespect our Kupuna by standing for the very song that took away their land and
all their mana, KaК»ipu Baker explained. Although some people think standing up for our
ancestors is disrespectful there is the reason to why we stand up for them. Think about it, would
you stand up for your own culture if someone took it away from you? That is exactly what Winona
Beamer, Graduates from Kamehameha KapДЃlama schools and Eddie Pu decided to do. Even
though there are many disagreements towards us as Hawaiians. Being a Hawaiian means standing
up for your culture and our Kupunas.
Standing up for Hawaiian Culture is not easy but a lady named Winona Beamer did what she
thought was right when she felt her culture got ripped away from her. Winona decided to Chant
in front of her elders in the school because she knew it wasnК»t right that she couldnК»t chant or
speak Hawaiian in a Hawaiian school. Due to her actions, she was expelled from the school from
the principal the next day. In her words this is how she felt, I wanted to see the will. I begged to
see the will. I couldnК»t believe the princess (Bernice Pauahi Bishop) would say no Hawaiian

Virginia Declaration Of Secession Analysis
For this PSD A, I decided to analyze Virginia s declaration of secession, mainly because while
Virginia did become part of the Confederacy, they had conflicting opinions and were still rather
close to the Union. Virginia s first reason is because the Federal Government has perverted said
powers. The document also makes a point of how the Federal Government has oppressed both
Virginia and the rest of the Southern Slaveholding States. I think there are multiple reasons for this
statement. Firstly, Virginia was probably standing up for what was right; I doing so, also giving
the other slave states a voice. Secondly, all the Southern states relied heavily on slave labor, so they
seceded to protect their economy. No matter the reason, Virginia

The Effect of Different Substrate Concentrations on the Rate of Reaction
My aim is to investigate what happens when concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide is changed and
how it affects the rate of reaction when it is broken down by the enzyme catalase (H2O2 Г 2H2O
+ O2)
Scientific knowledge.
Enzymes are biological catalysts, regulating the rate at which chemical reactions take place without
the enzyme being altered in the process.
Enzymes bind temporarily to one or more of the substrate molecules of the reaction they catalyse.
Enzymes work by lowering the activation energy required for a reaction to proceed. In order to do
so, and enzyme molecule must unite even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each catalase molecule works best at a certain pH and temperature. The values for pH, and
temperature, which give an enzymes greatest rate of reaction, are known as the optimum values.
The activity of enzymes decreases away from these values. This is due to the importance of the
tertiary structure in its function.
As the temperature of the solution containing the hydrogen peroxide and catalase molecules
increases so does the rate of reaction. This occurs because as the temperature increases the kinetic
energy of the molecules also increases. As the molecules are moving around faster there are more
collisions which lead to reactions between catalase molecules, and hydrogen peroxide molecules.
This effect continues up to the optimum temperature. Above the optimum temperature, the rate of
reaction decreases, as the increasing kinetic energy causes the hydrogen bonds, holding the
structure of the enzyme together, to break. This causes the active site to change shape. This is
known as denaturation. The hydrogen peroxide substrate molecule can therefore no longer fit the
active site, and the rate of reaction decreases until all the catalase molecules are denatured, and the
rate of reaction is zero.
The pH affects the ionic charges, on some of the R groups present in the amino acids, making up
the catalase molecule. Therefore as a result of

Cirrhosis Synthesis
Past literature define cirrhosis as a non reversible end result of liver disease, however recent
studies have shown it s a dynamic process. If K.D stops his alcohol intake, he will reduce the
acetaldehyde and acetate in his body which is the main causes of cell and tissue damage. The
mechanism of tissue reversal takes place by blocking the formation of excessive acetaldehyde in
the mitochondria. In the absence of excessive alcoholin the cells, only the primary alcohol
oxidative metabolic pathway takes place. Alcohol is metabolized to acetaldehyde by the cytosolic
enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH). Due to the ADH s high affinity and low capacity, saturation
occurs very quickly. If the patient consumes excessive alcohol, the body has to start

Introduction
Slater (woodlouse), Biological name Porcellio scaber, is probably the most common species in
New Zealand. They belong to the biological class Crustacea. Their size is about 17mm in length.
They have rough exoskeleton and usually in dark grey colour. They have 7 pairs of legs, each
pair is attached to the underneath of each thorax segment. Their body consists into three sections:
head, thorax and abdomen, these are often fused together so that it is difficult to be sure where
each section starts or ends. Most slaters can live for 2 4 years, although most die as juveniles. вћў

An egalitarian is someone who believes that not only should women be equal to men, but
everyone should be equal to everyone and the only thing that separates us is our merits and the
things that we have worked to achieve in life. That is why I am and always will be an egalitarian.
When it comes to any kind of a pay gap, I refer you to Fortune.com article, Here s What it Takes to
Sue For Gender Pay Discrimination and Win, which stated Pay discrimination based on sex has
long been illegal. Both the Equal Pay Act of 1963 (EPA) and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of
1964 prohibit paying someone less for the same work because of gender. The article later goes
on to detail how to go about the legal process and what evidence is required in order to win your
case, and what things to be wary of when pursuing legal action. So if you feel that you are being
paid less than a coworker based on race, sex, orientation, or anything else that would be defined as
discrimination under the law, I urge you to seek out legal counsel and bring your employer to
justice for the crime they are committing.

We often don t notice how our mistakes, however slight or dire they may seem, impact the world

Examples Of Mall Observation
I chose to observe the library I work for, which is the Squirrel Hill location of the Carnegie Library
of Pittsburgh system. I performed my observation around 3:30 PM on Monday, September 19th.
There are technically three outdoor entrances, but two of them actually lead to the main inner
entrance. You can see the main entrance from the street, which allows paid parking. The library
itself is positioned above a parking lot (also paid parking), which is where the second main
entrance is seen. Both of these two main entrances lead to the same lobby area where you can
either take the steps or the elevator to the library floor. The third entrance is located on the
opposite side of the branch along the side street, which is residential and free parking, but you can t
see the entrance until you physically walk up the driveway.

The Muscular Dystrophy Canada
Health Education Resource Critique
The use of creditable and appropriate resources is important for educators because all internet
should be adept at critically evaluating information (Rankin, Stallings London, 2005, p.380). To
ensure that information is unbiased, accurate, and up to date and clear to the reader the educator
should evaluate each resource that is going to be used (Rankin, et al., 2005, p. 280). Muscular

The Multiplier Online Games ( Mog )
1. Introduction:
Multiplier Online Games (MOG) are one kind of real time applications. These are developed
using either centralized architecture (Client Server Architecture) also known as traditional
architecture or using distributed architecture (Peer to Peer Architecture). Some games are
developed using a combination of these two architectures known as Mirrored Server
Architecture (Hsu, Ling, Li, Kuo, 2003). In general, games are two types. One is role based
playing games where players role is fixed. Other is real time strategy based games where player s
actions dynamic. The Quake, Galaxy Star Wars, EVE, Warcraft are some examples of multiplayer
online games (Merabti Rhalibi, 2004). For entertainment purpose and for a virtual experience,
people are showing greater interest in MOG. In recent years, organizations started to using
distributed architecture or Peer to Peer (P P) architecture for developing MOG due to its
robustness, scalability, and flexibility. The well known traditional client serverarchitecture has
limited scalability and robustness and it requires the high cost to maintain servers when online
players are massive (Merabti Rhalibi, 2004).
The MOG requires two kinds of platforms. One is physical platform contain hardware and network.
Another is logical platform focuses on system architecture such as software development for
players and hosts according to hardware management. The theme of the logical platform is

Effects Of Internet Addiction
The Internet and technology are fascinating and captivating resources of information that have
become a seemingly indispensable part of our daily life. The technology that provided for the
creation of the internet has also advanced almost every electronic and mechanical device we use,
and the manner in which the Internetis accessed and technology are employed has established an
ever expanding reliance on it for information, social interaction, and entertainment. However, with
all of the benefits of technology and the Internet, there is also the rising awareness that there the
dangers and instances of disorder and addiction.
When one thinks of addiction, the mind automatically conjures the images of someone who is
suffering from a chemical dependency. But just as chemicals provide an alternate reality, the
Internet presents an ability to create an alternate life or virtual persona that only resides in the
protocols and URL s found on the computer.
One definition of addiction is a chronic dysfunction of the brain system that involves reward,
motivation, and memory. It s about the way your body craves a substance or behavior, especially if
it causes a compulsive or obsessive pursuit of reward and lack of concern over consequences.
(Tyler 2016) So can there be such a thing as internet addiction? And is it something society should
be concerned with? Addiction in any form is an issue that affects every country in the world, and

The Reading And Writing Connection
Reading and writing have many connections when it comes to everyday life and school. Students
would do better with by both reading and writing being taught together instead of separately rather
than being taught as two separate lessons. The article lists and discuss multiple ways for teachers to
integrate both reading and writinginto their lessons. The article The Reading and Writing
connection: Merging Two Reciprocal Content Areas discuss the connection of reading and writing.
It also discusses the integration of the two can help struggling readers as well.
In today s classrooms they are integrating reading and writing in the same lessons, before they
would have separate lessons one with reading and the other with writing. In the article The Reading
and Writing connection: Merging Two Reciprocal Content Areas they talked about have designated
times for each lesson and when that time passed they moved onto the next subject. When not

This would include reading and writing. Students will have to read what their pen pal sent but they
will also have to create a response to that person as well. Another way that the article said we could
implement the reading section is trying to collaborate pen pals with similar literary interest and
have them read the same book. This gives them something to also write about and discuss what they
read.
Reading and writing connection is the most important part of education, I believe. Every subject will
have to deal with reading and writing. For students to really understand the reading and writing
connection they must allow students to make choices in what they are reading and enjoy the
projects that they will incorporate. If there are not authentic reading writing connections many
students will continue to

Hard Times Sissy And Bitzer Analysis
In Dicken s Hard Times two characters Sissy and Bitzer are compared early in the novel.
Dickens comparison is used to further the theme that a person needs both fact and fancy to have
a morally developed personality. Dickens does this by portraying the effects of a life raised on
only facts compared to a life raised on a combination of fancy and facts. Later this comparison
continues showing how much Sissy has improved the lives of others, compared to Bitzer, who
has ruined the lives of others. By having Sissy represent a life of fancy and fact, and Bitzer
represents a life solely of fact than comparing the two Dickens is able to show the reader that facts
may be nice to know, but someone can not only have facts without fancy. This is seen

The Prisoner of War Ethic
Early on in the semester, I have found that Chapter 12 has been one of the more intriguing
sections to read. After deciding on a topic for the paper, I combed the book for interesting topics
that could relate to the prisoner of war ethic. In many ways I started my journey with Chapter 12;
making it all the more fitting that I end here as well.
Chapter 12 and the section on Prima Facie Duties cover a good range of personal subjects. This
chapter espouses the ideal that communication is not confined to national or even international
borders. Kales Human Nature, for example, proposes the importance of the human spirit over
cultural boundaries. Though it is not easy, we must communicate with others in a way that does not
reflect back on our own biases and stereotypes in other forms of intercultural communication. And I
am personally fascinated by the concept of moral exclusion. The ability to which we are able to
extend rights to other people is reflective of where they lie in our sphere of moral consideration, I
believe. One of the eight stages of genocide dehumanization comes to mind. As the book notes, this
dehumanization is reflected in communication. Communication, such as propaganda, that lowers
the status of others exemplifies this dehumanization.
We have a tremendous capacity, to turn people into less than us, and once you do that, you can
justify a hell of a lot of awfulness. Greg Pirmann

Essay On A Good Man Is Hard To Find
A Leopard Can Change Its Spots: The Misfit s Moral Awakening in O Connor s A Good Man Is
Hard to Find Throughout her short story A Good Man Is Hard to Find, Flannery O Connor exposes
the blatant racism and disjointed practice of religion within her mid twentieth century society. To
display these themes, she presents the grandmother and the Misfit, two exceedingly flawed and
immoral characters. However, being a Catholic writer, O Connor utilizes the Misfit to demonstrate
graces ability to convert troubled and hateful people through the metamorphosis of their moral
conscious. Despite his initial lack of faith, the Misfit s moralityand attitude towards religionare

Therefore, the grandmother s desire to check on the state of the plantation represents her desire to
reminisce fondly about the times when slavery reigned. In the end, her perception alters, and she
is saved from this hatred. When the Misfit is about to kill her, she prays to Jesus, who answers her
prayers by bestowing grace upon her. Such grace transforms the grandmother s perception of reality
as she now says to the Misfit, Why you re one of my babies. You re one of my own children. By
declaring that the Misfit is one of her own, the grandmother realizes the interconnectedness (and,
therefore, the inherent dignity) of all humans. Watching this drastic transformation, the Misfit
observes the power of Christ with his own eyes. Along with visually witnessing divine revelation,
the Misfit also feels its impact. Before the Misfit shoots her, the grandmother reached out and
touched him on the shoulder. Within the Catholic faith, touching another s shoulder traditionally
equates to the transfer of grace between two people. Therefore, the grandma s touching the Misfit s
shoulder signifies the transfer of grace from her to him. Having never felt it before, this grace
frightens the Misfit, causing him to shoot her three times through the chest. Even though he has
received grace, the Misfit exemplifies humans capability to be overwhelmed by their emotions as
he sprang back [from the grandmother s touch] as if a snake

This shows that if her own mother does not accept her the way she looks then how can other
people be expected to accept her. This also must have hurt her and lowered her self confidence
extremely. Hearing her own mother saying such things about her, she can only wonder what
other people say about her behind her back. Another example of Mary s acceptance being
affected by her family influences is when she speaks of her mother treating her condition by
saying I guess it hasn t helped that my mother has always been overprotective in a way,
practically passing out flyers on the subject matter to mothers and curious children on the
playground . This shows that instead of mother not mentioning her condition to any body and
treating her like a normal child, she talks about her daughter s condition openly like she is some
sort of freak. If her mother did not talk about her condition and just talked about her characteristics
or other things then people would just probably look past her condition more easily and accept her
as she is. Instead when her mother talks about her condition it puts the idea in peoples heads that
Mary is different from other children and treat her differently. In Red Dress the protagonists family
influences also affect her being accepted. The protagonists in Red Dress family

A middle eastern country of over seventy five million people ( World ), the country of Iran has
undergone many government reforms in the past century and been a major force in international
relations.
In the late 19th century, Iran (then named Persia) was in the midst of the Persian Constitutional
Revolution. Taking place from 1905 1907, the revolution was the result of citizen unrest with
the Persian government, especially the lack of limits of power of the Shah, and the spending
choices of the current Shah, Mozaffar ad Din. In 1906, the Shah signed a constitution largely
based on the Belgian Constitution (Abrahamian, Loc 849). In the 1910s, Persia had a neutral
stance during World War I, but there was still fighting and chaos in the area (Abrahamian, Loc
1035). In 1921, a man named Reza Khan lead a British orchestrated coup to occupy Tehran, as
part of an effort to gain control of all military forces in Persia. Khan soon became war minister, the
highest ranking military official (Abrahamian, Loc 1094), and would become prime minister in
1923 (Abrahamian, Loc 153). Reza Khan was a self educated military commander who had risen
through the ranks of the Iranian military. Khan would be was granted the title of Shah in 1925 and

Decomposition Of Salmon Essay
Decomposition of Salmon
The decomposition of salmon and other waste products from salmon farming have a wide array of
environmental impacts. The effects on the environment are seen through nitrogen and oxygen
depletion in the vicinity, remineralization, fish waste, and other waste materials known to thrust the
salmon environment into a zone of stress.
Nitrogen Oxygen Depletion
The largest impact that decomposition has on natural world in the vicinity of salmon farms is
nitrogen and oxygen depletion. Studies have shown that the decomposition of salmon in fish
farming strategies contributes to the loss of nitrogen and oxygen in the surrounding areas (Brickell
Goering, 1997). This can be attributed to the chemical process a salmon carcass ... Show more

Overabundance of these chemicals is toxic to fish and can cause fish kills (Genoil, 2012). Fish
carcass remineralization can ultimately block sunlight and choke plants causing the ecosystem to
collapse into a deadzone (Genoil, 2012). Farmed fish mortality can reach 30% in shallow waters
(Genoil, 2012). Salmon farms increase organic matter mineralization (Heilskov Holmer, 2001).
This is caused by enhanced microbial activities because of the presence of organic rich faecal
pellets (Heilskov Holmer, 2001). The microbial organisms are more active in the fish farms because
the stagnant waters allow certain bacteria from salmon faecal pellets to accumulate and provide the
microbes with a near optimal environment to produce the inorganic substances that are byproducts
of remineralization. The salmon also catalyzed this process by direct ingestion of detritus (Heilskov
Holmer, 2001). Through the direct ingestion of these decomposers, the salmon undergo a biotic
decomposition where the carcasses are broken down into simpler, organic matter that undergo
remineralization more

The Importance Of Prostitution
Finally, social justice is explains that we are to respect people as sexual beings in society and
support them. This value is especially important to use because it highlights the importance of
prostitutes and their individual choices. Prostitutes should have the ability to choose what they
want and society should be supportive of that. However, it also focuses on the broader picture of
safety for these women and how prostitution, the institution itself and not individual prostitutes,
may minimize women s well being. This valuequestions the existence of this institution of selling
and buying sex and the effect society and the people surrounding the prostitutes. By having this
overall picture, it allows us to remember the importance of individual choices, but also remember
the greater picture includes more forces than individual choice.
This cannot be more clearly explained than in Peterson Iyer s paper, where she explains that it is
wrong to stress the primacy of individual agency in isolation from social context; rather, only when
socioeconomic context takes center stage will the true character of prostitution become clear
(Peterson Iyer 28). Essentially, focusing solely on individual choices and nothing else is
problematic because it ignores the other forces that may be affecting those decisions. In this
explanation, it also explains why the values that are important to recognize regarding prostitution
cannot be evaluated without context. These values must be applied

of course only includes the top publicly traded firms. As of 2012 there are more than 3.6 million
registered corporations globally. Based on the numbers above it is easy to see the great amount
of power that is held in the hand of the few. Two great examples come from Google and Walmart
two of the world s largest corporations. Google s Gmail service currently serves approximately
900 million people today. That s greater than the population of Europe as a whole. With that
many people actively engaged in one company s product the influence the company can have is
vast. Not to mention that this is only Google s email service, I won t even go into discussion on
the ad placement aspect of the company. Walmart on the other hand illustrates another great
example. Every week the company host more than 250 million people in its stores in America
alone. Almost 80% of the United States will shop at the store at some point during the year. The
amount of electricity that is used by its stores alone ranks above 12 states in power consumption
at .05% of produced electricity per year. Now while it can be measured conceptually how big these
firms are it is hard to measure

No office could function successfully if it had to rely on memory alone to keep track of every
operation. Without records, all structured administration would quickly come to a stop. Records
and more specifically the information they contain are one of the vital resources that an
organization needs to perform its operations effectively. Thus a computerized Information System
would wisely benefit both the administration and the whole organization since the system speeds up
the processing of data, retrieval and storage of information as Razon Tabili (2005) proposed a
Computerized Student Information System (CSIS) which was vividly depicted in their study. The
Department of Education (DepEd) developed another system called Learning Resource

The Hallucinatory Effects Of The Counterculture In The 1960s
Counterculture is defined as a way of life and set of attitudes opposed to or at variance with the
prevailing social norm . The counterculture of the 1960s was an anti establishment movement based
in the UK and the US, which also played a huge role in the civil rights movements as it promoted
experimentation of sexuality, women s rights and illicit substances. Theodore Roszak in his book
The Making of a Counterculture states that the clear difference between the counterculture and the
New Left as he refers to the counterculture as a temporary style, continually sloughed off and left

How Levitation Can Be Performed
Levitation is a topic that cannot be explained because nobody knows how it works. Nobody
knows how levitation works but some theories are that it has to do with a magnetic force of
some sort, and there are others who think that there is no such thing as levitation and it s
somebody just hung by a string. The most well known way Levitation is know is because it is a
famous magic trick that magicians sometimes perform at shows. Another reason it is well known
is because it is in movies. One example of this is American magician Harry Kellar performed a
trick where his assistant, introduced as a Hindu princess, was brought onto the stage apparently
sleeping on a couch. He would then levitate her, passing a hoop back and forth along her body to

magnets to levitate insects, frogs, and mice. There are many ways that Magnetic Levitation can

reasons. My first reason is that it has been proven that levitation can be Performed because NASA

Meaning Of Sacrament
The word sacrament comes from Latin word Sacramentum the Greek word mysterion is equivalent
to Sacramentum and it is used by Paul in Ephesians when he is speaking about marriage. This is a
great foreshadowing Mysterion; I mean that it refers to Christ and the church. In later usage, the
term Sacramentum emphasizes the visible sign of the hidden reality of salvation which was
indicated by the term Mysterium. In this case, Christ himself is the mystery of salvation For there
is no other mystery of God, except Christ Jesus. The synonymous of the word Sacramentum in the
Bible is Mysterion, Orthodox Church uses the word mystery to mean sacrament.

A sacrament properly speaking is that which is ordained to signify our sanctification. In which
three things may be considered, the very cause of our sanctification, which is Christ s passion.
The form of our sanctification, which are grace and the virtues, and the ultimate end of our
sanctification, which is eternal life. And all these are signified by the sacraments. Consequently,
a sacrament is a sign that is both a reminder of the past that is the passion of Christ and an
indication of that which is effected in us by Christ s passion. That is grace and a prognostic that
is a foretelling of future. St Augustine has a different way of explaining the sacraments, for him
the sacraments are visible words and relationship with Christ and the Church when He identifies
them as visible words to be received in faith. Sacraments are visible signs of invisible reality.

  • 2. Inequality In Education Inequality Among Latinos in Academic Achievement in Higher Education The Latino community has made strides forward when it comes to education. Adriana Kohler and Melissa Lazarin, analysists for education reform for the National Council of La Raza, reports that The growth of the Latino student population has significantly surpassed that of other ethnic/racial groups (2). Even with these strides, the Latino community still faces obstacles in higher education. Kohler and Lazarin further report that although Latino enrollment in institutions of higher education has increased, Latinos are still less likely than non Latinos to be enrolled in or graduate from college (10). It is important in understanding the obstacles that the Latino community face in accessing higher education and through advocacy and legislation, help to support educational achievement and resources to that effect. These efforts have had a proven positive effect as to slowly changing the gender role orientations favoring Latina women becoming more independent. It has created a shift from a traditional housewife role to a more professional role and egalitarian view over the past few decades. This shift has also created an issue that is underreported. Claudia Buchman from the Sociology Department at Ohio State University and Thomas Diprete from the Sociology Department of Columbia University emphasizes that the United States Department of Education predicts that the gender gap of Latinos in college ... Food Additives Katie Yang Ms. Molin Advanced English 10C 7 May 2010 The Secret Behind Food That People Eat The number of consumers has now risen to 200, 000, 000, subjected everyday to a bombardment of poisons in their food and drugs while lying at the mercy of respectable corporations (Fuller). While the chefs and sou chefs cooked their customers orders, they thought nothing of it. They served it to their customer and while that customer ate, one had an allergic reaction. People should not have to die because of something like this. This number is increasing every year and scientists and the FDA should do something about it. If not, the numbers of consumers will also rise. The number of consumers annually differs from those being diagnosed with allergic reactions. As they continue to rise, the numbers of people admitted to the emergency rooms are also increasing. The FDA s attitude seems to be: Let consumers figure out for themselves how much of which ingredients can make them sick. It s bad enough that people have to worry about allergic reactions to peanuts, milk, and other conventional foods. In fact, it makes no sense for health authorities to purposefully allow new unsafe ingredients into the food supply. Types of safe food additives that have been used and known to not cause any health problems are artificial sweeteners. These sweeteners are put in place of real sugar that can cause cavities. With this in mind, the manufacturers using this just think that they could put these in their gums and sugar free and no complaints will surface from anyone. This can be true to some people because this is a safe additive, but don t think that because it doesn t cause many allergic reactions it is totally safe. In horses, there are several factors that play key roles when it comes to determining level of dominance such as social interaction between horses, aggressive behaviors and hierarchy. Horses have become to be known as very sociable animals. They are used for many human purposes such as entertainment, therapy, law enforcement purposes, search and rescue purposes...etc. Horses are animals that have to be trained to adapt to living with humans. If not trained properly, they can be highly aggressive animals that can injure humans without warning. The way they interact with each other is a determinant of what kind of behavioral characteristic each horse possess. For example, there are certain behaviors that can determine if a horse is dominant versus submissive or whether a horse is aggressive versus peaceful. Curry et al. Horses are on a schedule with limited time spent in the stables and time spent roaming the fields. Observing what they do with that time can be excellent predictors of behavior. Depriving horses of company can also reduce the amount of aggressive encounters and negative behaviors. Single stabled living arrangements have been beneficial in cases of horses that display high levels of aggression. One argument that Fureix et al. • 6. Star Fox Persuasive Speech First off, I d like to thank Jim Sterling, a renowned game journalist for bringing this issue to my attention. So, Nintendo. We all love Nintendo. Most of us, I assume. For those of you who are unaware of what Nintendo is, it is the beloved video game developer and publisher of such classics such as the countless number of games in the Mario series, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, and of course, Star Fox. Which is what we ll be discussing today. Star Fox Zero has recently been released, coming home to reviews of about 7/10 across the board. Which is good. Not the best. Some would like to argue a 7/10 is mediocre or average but I don t believe that. I think a 7/10 is a good solid, fun to play game. But that s the problem. It s not that fun to play. You see, Nintendo likes to be innovative for the sake of innovation. And that s why we haven t seen a Star Fox title for a good while now. According to Shigeru Miyamoto, that s why a Star Fox title never came out for the Wii. They couldn t be innovative. Now, I m all for innovation where it s due. But this is not the way to go about it. And I m sure I can hear you know, What s so bad, exactly? Well I ll tell you. Actually, let me ask you something. Hypothetically, if you had a Wii U, which, I m sure a few of you do, wouldn t you want to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They want this many seats since all the laws that are made by the Parliament have to then be passed through the Majority. The Majority government is the party that tends to win the most seats, usually more then half of the seats in the house of commons. It is much easier for the Majority to stay in power then the Minority which means they are strong and stable. • 8. The Cost Of Employees For Teleworking Majority of employees decide for teleworking mainly because of several benefits teleworking is offering. The first advantage is harmony of work and personal life. Employees have more free time they can spend with their children and family. Next advantage means higher flexibility as teleworkers may often chose the working hours and take the advantage for themselves. This allows them to choose the hours during which they are the most productive. Furthermore, teleworkers decreased everyday commutingto work saving their time, additional costs for travelling as well as stress (Mann and Holdsworth, 2003). In addition, not only employees benefit from teleworking. Company profits from teleworkers as well. Late research of the British Broadcasting Corporation showed savings of approximately 25 per cent. These savings are the results of decrease of bills in office space including heating, electricity (Loughran, 1998 as quoted in Mann and Holdsworth, 2003). Implications for increased productivity, loyalty and overall quality of work have been found among teleworkers (Baruch, 2000). However, teleworking is accompanied by a range of negatives too. The most common of them is social segregation. An analysis from 1983 showed that 60 per cent of teleworkers in Great Britain considered social segregation to be the greatest drawback of teleworking (Huws, 1984 as quoted in Mann and Holdsworth, 2003). Presenteeism is regarded as another disadvantage of teleworking. Teleworkers are hardly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Fool In To Build A Fire In the story To Build a Fire the protagonist proves to be a fool because he only brings one sandwich, he does not listen to the old man from Sulphur Creek, and he is also unmindful. The man from To Build a Fire made a foolish mistake of bringing a little bit of food for his journey. He decided to go on a journey in a new and very cold area and brought only one sandwich for him to eat. He has to keep the sandwich wrapped in a handkerchief and right against his body so it does not freeze. As he thought of lunch, he pressed his hand against the package under his jacket. It was also under his shirt, wrapped in a handkerchief, and lying for warmth against the naked skin. Otherwise, the bread would freeze. He smiled contentedly to himself as he thought of those pieces of bread, each of which enclosed a generous portion of cooked meat (London 66). The ways in which truths are presented to external audiences concerning outside characters display not only a good judgment of character on the presenter, but furthermore, the often insignificant nature of whom the presenter is talking about, even if the insignificance presented is accidental. Both Peter Shaffers Equusand Albert CamusThe Stranger approach different ways in presenting the truths of Alan Strang and Meursault to the audience/jury, but one thing remains clear; intentional or unintentional manipulation of these characters leads to the eternal distrust of the reliability of their presenters, Martin Dysart and the members of the law. Though fascinated with Alan, as the book progresses, it strays from focus on Alan to Dysart, and more light is shone on Dysart s own problems. Shaffer gives Dysart numerous monologues, not concerning Alan, but rather, problems and events he has experienced in his own life, though Alan has influenced these events. In his opening monologue, Dysart keep[s] thinking about the horse! Not the boy: the horse (Shaffer 9). Shaffer immediately confronts with Dysart s self centered nature, for from the beginning, Dysart s mind would rather think about an animal. Nevertheless, the manipulation of Alan is unintentional, for Dysart does not identify with Alan in order to better himself, but rather to bring to light problems within himself, displaying further his own selfish nature. In contrast with The Stranger, the truth is brought out and presented to its entirety to the audience, but Alan never receives a true diagnosis. It remains up to the reader to decide what went wrong with Alan, and what caused him to stake out the eyes of the horses. On the other hand, all kinds of faults are presented within Dysart, like his impotence, or his inability to find something to become passionate about. The goal of the Virginia s commander Franklin Buchanan was to break the blockade of Norfolk Harbor which held one of the largest naval bases in the Americas. At about 2 pm she spotted the USS Cumberland. Buchanan ordered the ship to ram the Cumberland with its 1500 pound ram which lodged itself in the cumberlands bow completely shredding it s hull. Schools who keep accurate attendance records are better able to identify truancy problems early. This includes noting tardiness, patterns of tardiness and/or absences or absences around particular days (such as holidays) as these may be red flags that there is a problem. The document also makes a point of how the Federal Government has oppressed both Virginia and the rest of the Southern Slaveholding States. I think there are multiple reasons for this statement. The Effect of Different Substrate Concentrations on the Rate of Reaction My aim is to investigate what happens when concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide is changed and how it affects the rate of reaction when it is broken down by the enzyme catalase (H2O2 Г 2H2O + O2) Scientific knowledge. Enzymes are biological catalysts, regulating the rate at which chemical reactions take place without the enzyme being altered in the process. Enzymes bind temporarily to one or more of the substrate molecules of the reaction they catalyse. Enzymes work by lowering the activation energy required for a reaction to proceed. In order to do so, and enzyme molecule must unite even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each catalase molecule works best at a certain pH and temperature. The values for pH, and temperature, which give an enzymes greatest rate of reaction, are known as the optimum values. The activity of enzymes decreases away from these values. This is due to the importance of the tertiary structure in its function. As the temperature of the solution containing the hydrogen peroxide and catalase molecules increases so does the rate of reaction. This occurs because as the temperature increases the kinetic energy of the molecules also increases. As the molecules are moving around faster there are more collisions which lead to reactions between catalase molecules, and hydrogen peroxide molecules. This effect continues up to the optimum temperature. Above the optimum temperature, the rate of reaction decreases, as the increasing kinetic energy causes the hydrogen bonds, holding the structure of the enzyme together, to break. This causes the active site to change shape. This is known as denaturation. The hydrogen peroxide substrate molecule can therefore no longer fit the active site, and the rate of reaction decreases until all the catalase molecules are denatured, and the rate of reaction is zero. The pH affects the ionic charges, on some of the R groups present in the amino acids, making up the catalase molecule. Therefore as a result of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After deciding on a topic for the paper, I combed the book for interesting topics that could relate to the prisoner of war ethic. In many ways I started my journey with Chapter 12; making it all the more fitting that I end here as well. Chapter 12 and the section on Prima Facie Duties cover a good range of personal subjects. This chapter espouses the ideal that communication is not confined to national or even international borders. Kales Human Nature, for example, proposes the importance of the human spirit over cultural boundaries. Though it is not easy, we must communicate with others in a way that does not reflect back on our own biases and stereotypes in other forms of intercultural communication. And I am personally fascinated by the concept of moral exclusion. The ability to which we are able to extend rights to other people is reflective of where they lie in our sphere of moral consideration, I believe. One of the eight stages of genocide dehumanization comes to mind. As the book notes, this dehumanization is reflected in communication. Communication, such as propaganda, that lowers the status of others exemplifies this dehumanization. Such grace transforms the grandmother s perception of reality as she now says to the Misfit, Why you re one of my babies. You re one of my own children. Hearing her own mother saying such things about her, she can only wonder what other people say about her behind her back. Another example of Mary s acceptance being affected by her family influences is when she speaks of her mother treating her condition by saying I guess it hasn t helped that my mother has always been overprotective in a way, practically passing out flyers on the subject matter to mothers and curious children on the playground . This shows that instead of mother not mentioning her condition to any body and treating her like a normal child, she talks about her daughter s condition openly like she is some sort of freak. If her mother did not talk about her condition and just talked about her characteristics or other things then people would just probably look past her condition more easily and accept her as she is. Instead when her mother talks about her condition it puts the idea in peoples heads that Mary is different from other children and treat her differently. The effects on the environment are seen through nitrogen and oxygen depletion in the vicinity, remineralization, fish waste, and other waste materials known to thrust the salmon environment into a zone of stress. Nitrogen Oxygen Depletion The largest impact that decomposition has on natural world in the vicinity of salmon farms is nitrogen and oxygen depletion. Studies have shown that the decomposition of salmon in fish farming strategies contributes to the loss of nitrogen and oxygen in the surrounding areas (Brickell Goering, 1997). This can be attributed to the chemical process a salmon carcass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overabundance of these chemicals is toxic to fish and can cause fish kills (Genoil, 2012). Fish carcass remineralization can ultimately block sunlight and choke plants causing the ecosystem to collapse into a deadzone (Genoil, 2012). Farmed fish mortality can reach 30% in shallow waters (Genoil, 2012). Salmon farms increase organic matter mineralization (Heilskov Holmer, 2001). This is caused by enhanced microbial activities because of the presence of organic rich faecal pellets (Heilskov Holmer, 2001). The microbial organisms are more active in the fish farms because the stagnant waters allow certain bacteria from salmon faecal pellets to accumulate and provide the microbes with a near optimal environment to produce the inorganic substances that are byproducts of remineralization. The salmon also catalyzed this process by direct ingestion of detritus (Heilskov Holmer, 2001). • 41. The Importance Of Prostitution Finally, social justice is explains that we are to respect people as sexual beings in society and support them. This value is especially important to use because it highlights the importance of prostitutes and their individual choices. Prostitutes should have the ability to choose what they want and society should be supportive of that. However, it also focuses on the broader picture of safety for these women and how prostitution, the institution itself and not individual prostitutes, may minimize women s well being. This valuequestions the existence of this institution of selling and buying sex and the effect society and the people surrounding the prostitutes. By having this overall picture, it allows us to remember the importance of individual choices, but also remember the greater picture includes more forces than individual choice. This cannot be more clearly explained than in Peterson Iyer s paper, where she explains that it is wrong to stress the primacy of individual agency in isolation from social context; rather, only when socioeconomic context takes center stage will the true character of prostitution become clear (Peterson Iyer 28). Essentially, focusing solely on individual choices and nothing else is problematic because it ignores the other forces that may be affecting those decisions. In this explanation, it also explains why the values that are important to recognize regarding prostitution cannot be evaluated without context. These values must be applied ...
